Hi, Ladies!
I would love to get to know everyone here. I've been a diabetic for about 10 years now, ever since my last pregnancy. Well, I've been managing pretty well, but I'd love to see my insulin levels go down considerably (along with my weight). I'll check back with ya soon! ;) |
:welcome: KAI ~ you have some definite goals there; sounds like you are doing very well already, but that bodes well for the future too. Nice to meet you too ... :D
|
JustWant2bhealthy - Congrats on all of the weight you've lost! Amazing!!! :carrot:
|
Nice to see more folks joining us.
This is such a difficult time of year. I set myself a weightloss goal of five pounds for this month but realize that just holding the line will be success! I've done OK resisting sweets but still must be eating too many carbs as the scale is not budging. BGL is still good though. I absolutely MUST get back to eating more veggies! I have broccoli and cauliflower in my crisper that need to be used up. Today I will be getting more fruit and veggies from our Good Food Box programme and will have to make a concerted effort to work them into my meals. A big pot of veggie soup might help. Have a good Tuesday, my friends. |
 very cold here right now; supposed to go down to -30C tonight ... brrr ... we had a good day; went shopping and got lots of walking in and ate well today. I did have a treat this afternoon of 2 bakery chocolate chip cookies but still kept in my calorie range for the day (this is a very rare treat for us). We had a light dinner of roasted chicken and loads of veggies.
RUTH ~ I love to roast some meat and veggies at the same time in the oven; easy one pan dinners that are healthy. I put things like onions, carrots, celery, turnip or parsnips, small new potatoes, and then sometimes put broccoli and cauliflower on top (turned upside down) ... yummy. I always have lots left over for other days and soups too. Have a wonderful Wednesday tomorrow ... Rosebud  |

Ack, ok, so my BSL was 6.0 first thing in the morning yesterday, but today I'm pretty sick, so I woke up and it was 9.8 before bed, and then 10.3 just now at 11am, so I'm pretty happy with that number for how crummy I'm feeling. :(
I really wish I could get motivated to cook. I hate cooking and eating food that I make lol. Its really weird! Tonight, I'm going to be making chicken breasts stuffed with light philly cheese and garlic and herbs, then wrapped up in two slices of parma ham. We'll be having a cauliflower cheese alongside of it and I will be eating an extra helping of mixed fruit whilst DH gets the remaining chicken breast :( I want it!! lol |
Good morning. Today I pack my bag and head off for two days - a family anniversary party! I know massive quantities of food and wine will be involved but am determined to hold my own. My hotel has a fridge so part of my surf and turf will be breakfast Friday morning. At least I will be away from home and the temptation of my Christmas baking and other goodies!
|
Hi, all. BGL up a bit again. It's rainy here. We had our office Christmas lunch yesterday. Profiteroles for dessert! I also received 2 boxes of candy! Plus more goodies keep appearing in the office. Tis a dangerous season.
Cassandra - I don't like to cook either. Fortunately, there is a healthy takeout place not too far from me. Ruth - Enjoy your trip. Good luck resisting temptations. A good week to all. |
Sounds like you are all doing very well; especially considering everywhere we go, here are candies and goodies falling off the shelves. We get to have a few treats in our stocking, but we are limiting it to that this year. We really downsized this year, including the gifts.
RUTH ~ hope you have a lovely trip and can find lots of healthy things to eat while you are there too. CASANDRA ~ I don't mind cooking, but I try to find ways of making the process easier for myself at the same time. Hence, all the one-pot dinners that I have developed or found over time. We do try to find meals that I can pop into the oven too so that I can have a break once a week, ie frozen cabbage rolls, or DH's favorite -- shepherd's or fireside pie, vegetable lasagna, and so forth. The dinner I mentioned above, I vary the meats -- sometimes a whole chicken or pieces like breasts; a beef or pork roast; steak or pork chops; or even turkey sometimes, but always with lots of veggies and sometimes, rice. Sometimes, I make a big pot of soup or stew too. Rosetta ... I don't know what Profiteroles are. You could always give the candy away; that's what we do. Why do people bring in goodies into the office? I really don't know why they do it, since you'd think the office party was enuff in itself ... :?: Still very cold here, got in some more walking today, and ate very well (no treats today) ;); put up our new thick & long curtains today; took all afternoon. Hope you all have a great day tomorrow ... Rosebud  |

Profiteroles are basically little balls of pastry (somewhere between like pie crust pastry and donut holes), filled with fresh cream, and topped with chocolate syrup!!! <3 As for me today, my blood sugar this morning was 8.9, again, still quite ill, so happy with that number, especially as I went to bed at 14.2. These are the lowest numbers (and most consistent) that I've had in my 5 years (6 in april) as a type 1 diabetic! I am soooo happy that things are starting to come together again for me! Especially as this Saturday is my first ever Dog Show where I'll be handling my Pomeranian, Cesar!: http://www.danneh.org/gallery/d/1048-5/CAM_0146.JPG :carrot: Edit to add: My diabetes consultation was on Friday, and my consultant put me on Iron tablets as well as Metformin to aid in my *possible* insulin resisitance. My numbers are getting closer to normal every day now, but I'm worried about starting metformin, in case I start seeing a lot of hypoglycemia :( |
Met with my doctor yesterday and went over my results. My a1c is still in the normal range (just barely) so she wants to treat me with diet and exercise to start. I am making an appointment with a local diabetes educator to get a handle on things. I have got my fasting sugars back in line, and will start testing at different times of day. I'm trying not to be in denial and to do things well. It is so hard to exercise, I am exhausted all the time.
one day at a time ladies. |
Hi all! Not going to show today, going to go tomorrow instead! I woke up with a 5.1, so very happy today! :D
Keep moving and shaking guys! |
 Casandra, I mis-read your post and thought you were getting 5.1 inches of snow tomorrow, not today! I need my eyes checked or a brain transplant - maybe both. Congrats on the good reading.
I survived my two days of being away and eating out with good results - no weight gain and my BGL is good today. That's very amazing as I forgot to take my meds along! I was a bit worried but did just fine. Now to get through the next two weeks of "food" events by trying to remember that nobody puts food in my mouth except me - although my nasty alter-ego, Ruthless, sometimes takes control. |

HI LADIES ~ we've had milder temps up here the last 2 days; really nice to go out and do a bit of shopping and walking. Picked up some good deals. The temps are supposed to go down again starting tonight so we are staying indoors to keep warm.
RUTH ~ glad you did OK on your trip; good for you! :carrot: It will be great if we all can get thru the season and still keep our BSL's in line and with no gains; that would be awesome. CASANDRA ~ Your dog Cesar looks just like a Pomeranian we had when we were kids, but he didn't like kids at all -- any time we would try to pet him, he would bite us. :( We think he was upset about being in a new place, so my parents gave him to an older couple who had no kids. Your numbers are getting better all the time; way to go girl! I am on a low dose of Metformin now becuz with watching what I am eating and exercising, I was having a few lows (very low BSL's). Work with your doctor to see what dose is really necessary, if any. I don't know if I have ever seen profiteroles; maybe I have and I just don't ... hmmm ... part of this post has disappeared so I am pasting the rest back in again ... I don't know if I have ever seen profiteroles; maybe I have and I just don't realize it. I don't buy that kind of stuff, so that is probably why; when we did have baking in the past, I usually made it myself. We do have a Christmas cake but will be serving that up in small portions for sure; I know at least one guest will like it, plus DH of course. WE are limiting ourselves to a stocking this year; so that should be OK. I am journalling and tracking everything to make sure I stay on plan this year. I am doing much better this year overall, and I hope 2010 will be even better. I have recently switched from a portion-based plan to calorie counting becuz it seems to help me stay on plan much better. FATMAD ~ glad to hear you are also getting your BSL's in line again too; we are all doing so well this week. Your diabetes consultant will be able to give you lots of tips that will help you too. Just do what you can; you don't have to run a marathon -- just walking around your home for 5-10 minutes a few times a day adds up quickly. Take advantage of shopping: I purposely walk around the perimeter of every store before going to the cash -- and that is really helping me to get extra walking in and isn't too exhausting. Right now we are trying for 3-4 times a week and I hope to up that over time. That's right, take it slow ... one-step-at-a-time and one-day-at-a-time! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend ... Rosebud:hug: |

This morning I woke up with a high, 17.1, I think its because I didn't absorb any of the insulin I took last night. I am down around 5lbs from last week friday though, but I'm not too worried because of all of the extra exercise I've been doing and all of the different meds I'm taking now. I hope you are doing better with those lows! I swear its like the worst feeling ever, I wouldn't wish it upon my worse enemy. lol |
Hello all!
Cassandra-hello, nice to meet you! Cute dog! :) Ruth-glad your trip went well! and hello to everyone else, glad to see chatter happening in here! :D I'm very excited to report that my sugars have been great/good. My walking buddy and I have been making an effort to go at lest 3-4 days a week of walking and some attempts at running. Food is still troubling but not too overwhelming. According to my scale i'm down 8 pds, I would love to hit a solid 10 before my birthday and/or NY. Enjoy the day! Great job everyone! |
CASANDRA ~ yes, I heard that England has been having snow; and I know how rare that is for you over there. I think it would be nice for you to have snow for Christmas but I know it reeks havoc on your road systems. I also heard Scotland got quite a bit of snow too. Yes, I am watching my meds more carefully now and trying to eat very balanced as well.
MONI ~ nice to see you drop by; you are doing terrific like Casandra on the weight-loss front. I'm glad you managed to find a walking buddy -- that is so much more fun, I think. :tree: Had a lovely :sunny: day today. We had a peaceful and restful day; DH is watching more Christmas movies tonight. Had a lovely roast beef dinner tonight; and leftovers will morf into a Cottage Pie for tomorrow. :candy: Hope you all have a great Christmas week ahead; and take good care of yourselves too ... ROSEBUD  |
I'm having a mixed day. I woke up with a high bsl, 18. I've got it down a bit, but not having much luck getting a normal number.
I got my report back from the educational psychologist at my University. It would seem that I have many of the characteristics of Dyslexia as well as Dyspraxia. Don't quite know how to proceed with my results... BUT! THE GREAT NEWS IS!!!...Muppet Christmas Carol is on telly <3 hehe :P |
Hi, all. My bgl was 187 this a.m. Could be the 1 lb. box of chocolates I polished off in about 4 days.:o I did give the other box away. It's rainy here. I'm still having trouble with sciatica. It impairs my walking and can't sleep lying down at all.
You all seem to have a handle on the holidays. I'm working on my New Year's resolutions. Has anyone heard from Rosey? She's been gone for a long time. I hope she's just busy with holiday things. I'm going to wish everyone Happy Holidays in case I don't get back here to post this week.:snowglo::tree::rudolph::wreath::snowball1:ho hoho: |
:wreath: HI LADIES ~ the temps have dipped down on us up here; so it's much colder than last week :brr: but we are cocooning indoors tonight. The :sunny: did come out today to warm things up just a tad, so we did venture out to do our last-minute Christmas shopping. Wrapping gifts tonight and now having some hot tea ...
ROSETTA ~ haven't heard from Rosey but like you, I'm sure she is just busy right now; some people go away to stay with family over the holiday week. So far, I have stayed away from the goodies; I will have a stocking with a few sweet treats (mostly dark chocolate and nuts) but I will have to dose those out. :ginger: We are having more company this year, but I limited what I bought (not as many sweets); and what they don't devour or take home with them, DH will try his best to get rid of (and he is a skinny minny). If there is anything left over after that, we will give that away ... CASANDRA ~ this is a great time to see some fun movies and shows; it is my favorite time of year ... :candy: Hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas week ... Rosebud  |
I just finished making and wrapping my goodie baskets and did not have one nibble. Of course, I also feel pretty rotten with the start of a cold but still....
I survived a luncheon today by eating lightly (it was a buffet) and will have a light dinner tonight. In the morning I breakfast with the "lads" at the diner and then gear up for Church and my Christmas Eve bash. It sure is a food-filled time of year. Good luck to us all in staying on plan and with smooth sailing on the blood testing! |
Just poppin' by to wish you all a ...
:tree: MERRYCHRISTMAS!:tree: We had a very busy day; but I think we are ready. I made a pumpkin pie and a pumpkin custard; just used the same recipe as for the pie, but subbed sweetener (11 packets) for the brown sugar in the recipe. I just spray the pie dish; sprinkle with wheat flour and pour the filling in. Baked it with the other pie. Have my veggies and dressing base ready in containers in the fridge; just have to do potatoes tomorrow. Gifts are all wrapped; but will do the stockings just before bed. We have 2 extra guests coming tomorrow so that should be nice. My poor feet are sore but I felt much better today; just glad that we have everything ready ... :wreath: May GOD BLESS YOU RICHLY with His PEACE & JOY as we celebrate the coming of our LORD & SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST ... :wreath: |
Merry Christmas to us all. I hope everyone has a day filled with family and friends or even just a good book.
So far, so good - not a piece of Christmas cake or a cookie have passed these lips! Christmas dinner later today will be a big test because my hostess can be a bit pushy about sweets. I may fib and say my BGL is too high. So happy first day of Christmas. Be on the lookout for a partridge in a pear tree. ;) |
:wreath: HI LADIES ~ we had a busy Christmas Day with our guests. We had a real pleasant surprise; one of our guests is a self-taught musician and as soon as he walked in our livingroom said, "Oh, you have an organ!" He promptly sat down and serenaded us all through the evening with Christmas songs!!! What an awesome blessing --
to hear someone who could play so well, show me how my organ can sound with an accomplished player on hand ... I have to say that was our favorite gift of all! :candy: Today, we just rested as I was exhausted and my poor feeties sure needed a rest. We did enjoy some treats of chocolate and nuts, etc but a few days on plan will fix that up, I'm sure. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time and DH keeps saying this was the best Christmas that he can remember ... ;) :ginger: Hope you all have a blessed Christmas week and a restful Sunday tomorrow too! ROSEBUD  |
How did everyone manage over the holiday? I held the line - barely. I ate properly but there was too much of it. Better days ahead.
|
HI RUTH ~ did much better this year than last; that's for sure. We put the leftover turkey in the freezer for other meals; gave the birdies some leftover nuts & tidbits; we threw some xtra junkies out (shhh); and the rest that DH wants for New Years has been put out in the cold storage ... haha!
I cut my stocking down to three things; and I still have some left that I have put away for now that I can have later for my snacks (ie dark chocolate). I am back on plan and tracking my days again; boy, I am glad that part is over. I hope that each year, I will make better and better choices. I did make the pumpkin custard and it was good ... Rosebud  |
Well, I learned this morning that I need to eat more than cheese and crackers if I am drinking red wine with friends! Woke up with a 3.1 reading which I treated with Boost and a ww English muffin with peanut butter. I really thought I was smarter than that but I was wrong. ;)
