"Keep-in-Touch" Thread
:grouphug:
Summer officially arrives this weekend and it definitely feels like a fresh start is needed around here. Our weather has been very summer-like most of this past week, but there is nothing but rain in the forecast for the next few days. All my continuing health problems and the lack of definitive knowledge as to what is causing the coughing, wheezing, and drastic shortness of breath are definitely taking a toll on my blood glucose levels. This is all getting extremely tiresome. Maybe the Bloodwork on Monday followed by the Liver Biopsy on Tuesday will get us closer to a diagnosis. :dizzy: In the mean time. I do have semi good news (maybe)-- the high BGL is not bringing the usual yeast infection problems and I am seeing "onederland" numbers on the scale the past couple of days. BUT . . . . . . I do think that has more to do with the health problems than anything I'm actually doing consciously. :( Anyway . . . the good old Summertime is now one of my favourite season . . . the fact that I hate the heat, humidity and bugs never makes things more pleasant or less stressful. How about you???? Is Summer a more difficult or an easier season for you in the ongoing routines of "Living with Diabetes"????? |
Hi all. Sunny here. Very busy at work -- for a change. My BGL was 114 this a.m. It was higher earlier in the week. No change in eating habits. Who knows.
Meowee - It's good to hear from you. Sorry you are still ill. You are sure keeping all those docs busy. I do hope they solve the myster and get you better. Take care. |
Hi everyone..sunny day here..meowee so nice to here from you  hope u get some answers soon..rosetta nice to here from u too..nothing new in my world..watching my grdd..she's lots of fun and keeps me busy..have agreat day all and ((((hugs))) rosey

Happy Summer to all,
My tomatoes are show their beauty here in Colorado. I am doing well and will be finishing my Nutrisystem D foods. I have been on it for a month with great success. The food isn't tasty anymore and can't wait to start the ADA diet of 1500 calories. My husband and I have been working hard at our menus and shopping lists. I am excited and will test often. My blood sugars are running between 92- 101. I am thrilled. I have lost 15lbs since May 13 of my diagnosis. Barbecueing is looking real good and can't wait to do good healthy roasting of veges, chicken breasts, lean pork chops and good lean buffalo. It will be nice. I am already used to measuring and weighing. Onward and forward to good health and more exercising too. Be well and blessings to all, Melanie in Colorado |
Happy first official day of summer! I always feel beadly when it arrives because I know the days are getting shorter and prefer it the other way around.
I've been sticking to my plan and have had good readings lately. The weight is still stuck. :( I hate to imagine it but I may be eating too few calories! I'll start using Fitday again and track them. Meowee, I feel so badly that you are still battling your health problems. I hope the tests this week are definitive. Rosey, I wish my grandd lived closer. She's nine now and I feel I've missed a lot. Rosetta, the mystery of BGL changes is still unsolved to me. Mine is up and down for no obvious reason these days. Melsie, kudos on the weightloss! Yes, summer can be a healthy eating time. I adore grilled veggies and have been feasting on asparagus. My tomatoes just have their first blossoms! Have a great Sunday and hug your Dad if he's still with you. If not, cherish some sweet memories. |
Hello everyone!
There's no summer weather here but hopefully it improves during the weekend. This past weekend was a lot of fun but I behave not so good I'll say.:o On Friday after I finished my work here I picked up my baby, got him into his little pushing car and we went to the Grecian Festival a couple of blocks away from the house. My husband met us there when and we spent the evening listening to good old Greek music and eating Mousaka.:p Saturday was mi niece birthday party, I didn't eat a lot but I ate a piece of cake.:dizzy: And yesterday I had a surprise birthday party for my dad and people came over to celebrate Father's Day also, I coocked a lot of devilish dishes like: pork shoulder, rice with pegeon peas, potato salad and gratinated potatoes. I bought him ice cream cake and again...I had a piece of it. I just needed to confess over here, that way is out of my system and I can move on to a good week OP.:D Meowee, I'm glad to read you again! Best wishes for your prompt recuperation. Melsie you are on fire! I'm so happy to read that :) Enjoy you Monday all! |
Sounds like a fun weekend, Renacer. I hope you get summer soon.
Forgot my pills last night for some reason. There they were on the dresser beside my glass of water. I must have had a brain fart! I was at a BBQ last night and managed very well by avoiding the potato salad and the desserts. I shared my burger with Charlie the Dog who will be eternally grateful. I've noticed that people at these events really don't notice what you are eating, particularly if you move around talking to different folks. Anyhow my ticker is finally telling the truth - now to get it to move down. I think it's directionally challenged. Thinking of Meowee today as she undergoes her biopsy. |
Best whishes Meowee :)
|
Good morning! BBQ sauce put my BGL up this morning or else it's the heat! I'm up two pounds overnight which I KNOW is water retention since I sure didn't eat an extra 7,000 calories yesterday!
Cool and healthy meals and lots of water on today's plan. |
Hi everyone.. sry i have been mia..i'm having puter troubles and my laptop is being fixed..im using my dh old puter in the back bedrm..its difficult to get to as the wheel chair doesn'd fit thru the door and my dh has to fold it up and push it thru and then i follow with the walker.. as u can tell its alot of work so only use it when im in severe puter with drawals :dizzy:..our summer has been beautiful..had my grdd for 4 days and she kept me hopping..she's constant motion and smart too..she beat me at domonos and scrabble..of course im not a proud grama or anything lol..,y sl have been fairly constant around the 100's..my neighbor brought us some fresh cought halibut..i cooked it in the oven, dipped in butter and crushed sour-cm and chive potatoe chips sprinkled on top..very yummy..i have made a decision for myself and would like to share..in the last yr alot had happened to me and last winter was long and difficult..i didn't get out much as its so hard on my dh to physically move me out the door in my wheel chair..im looking at the future and as we get older hes not going to be able to do that and i will be house bound.. after having my apt for yearly ckup my dr and i discussed wgt loss surgury as an option for me both for health and mobility..and if my ins will pay for it i have decided with her ok(in fact she recommends it) to go for it..right now im in the process of having the tests etc and then will see the surg ,who will contact my ins etc and determine if i can have this or not..a lot of ifs right now but i dont want to end up a sick old lady stuck in my house..i have tried many diets and i stay the same and since my surg last yr and loss of the use of my legs and feet its hard to get the real exercise i need to accomplish the wgt loss that i need..im scared but hopeful and am glad i have u all to support me whatever the out come..anyways thats whats on my agenda..hoping u all have a great weekend..get better meowee we miss you.. for all rosey

Hi all. BGL's been a little high. Probably because of too much food.
Rosey - I've been struggling with the same issue. Because of my weight I'm not as mobile and I wish and there are a lot of things I can't do. I'm sure you've thought this through. It's a tough decision, but I say go for it. We will be here to support you. Meowee - |
Hello all,
I'll be joining your chat now. It's been sunny and we've had some storms in Ohio, right now it looks really gloomy. My BGL has been stable, I'm really happy about that. Ranges from 87-95. I can run up to 5 miles a day now, 4 weeks ago I couldn't even walk down the stairs. I really hope things will get better for you ladies as it did for me. |
Good morning. Just realized I didn't do my morning blood test and have already had coffee. I have a friend from 3FC visiting me this week and we have been keeping each other on track so it should be fine.
Nice to see you here, AngelicLyna, and congratulations on your weightloss so far. Rosey, WLS is a major decision and I hope it helps you become more mobile. Rosetta, I've considered it too but my age is against me. It's the last day of June! Enjoy the remains of such a pretty month. I do love summer but wish she would slow down a bit! |
Happy 4th of July! I hope all is well with everyone and that everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday. I am doing great since I am on the ADA way of eating. Blood sugar's range around 98 to 110. I am exercising doing Leslie Sansom tapes and starting Jazzercise tapes as well. Tell me what diet plan you are on and your exercise routine you are on and how it is working for you.
Blessings to all, Melanie in Colorado |
Good morning and Happy Independence day to my American neighbours!
Weight and BGL are not good this morning - it's been a week of a tad too much snacking and eating out. It definitely will be better after I get this weekend over - BBQ, BBQ, brunch and big Church dinner will all happen before tomorrow night! I made 12 pies for the dinner and did not sample anything until I dropped a coconut cream and grabbed for a fork! The dogs helped with clean-up. I am on Phase II of South Beach which seems to work well at keeping my BGL stabilized. No formal exercise is happening although I am very active with house and garden tasks. Walking is a bit of a problem with damaged knees - one was "fixed" and the other one is on its way to an eventual operation. I do have the WATP tapes and must start using them. Have a glorious day. |
Happy 4th of July to everyone!
First, I went to the Doctor on Thursday and got all my labs done. She will call me next week to let me know how everything looks, I'm happy about that. Sugars have been around the low 90's even that I did some cheating with BBQ and a little bit of ice cream last night. Melsie, that's excellent! As for me I follow Weight Watchers, portion control and keeping the food journal really helps me. Also I do carb counting since I was told about this method by my diabetes educator to keep my glucose levels on check and this really helps me a lot, I'm able to enjoy foods that I ditched from my diet in the past because I used to blame my sugar highs on them. For exercise I do Zumba twice a week, I walk 6.6 miles usually on Sundays when we go to the beach (we decided not to take the car) and I'm happy to announce that I went to the gym three time this week.:D Enjoy your Sunday everyone! |
Renacer, carbs are definitely the culprits for my blood sugar levels too. I did indulge in some wonderful turkey dressing last night after the Church dinner but managed to hold the line anyhow. This week I will be eating really clean as I have a celebration weekend in Toronto coming up. There will be an elegant dinner out and then a BBQ to celebrate my birthday. (It was in January but this is the first available weekend for my sister and brother and me! We all live crazy lives.)
My weight is up to 197 again and my ticker is lying. Lots of water and no salt this week should fix that. |
Ruth, have you tried to count them in every meal? I still eat carbs but with carb-counting now I know how much my body can handle in every meal and so far so good! The diabetes educator told me to use as a start guideline between 55-60g per meal and 15-30g per snack...She said that would give an idea if you can go up or down in the grams.
Enjoy your birthday celebration, I think anyday it's good to celebrate that we are here.:) |
Hi everyone..still haven't got my laptop back..we are changing programs as i hate windows vista..i bought a new windows xp program and am waiting for it to arrive so we can install it..soooo im using hubbys puter and cant always have access to it..first thankyou for the support in my decision to have wt loss surg..dont even know yet if i will qualify or if my ins will pay but in the mean time am having tests done and controling my eating and protions..my sl 's have been great and thats pleases me..we had a wonderful 4th.. went to the parade and forgot my hat.. so borrowed my dh right off his head and we still got sunburned..him on his bald spot lol and on my chest and arms..i was tomatoe red yikes but a fun day anyways esp when i dont get out alot..hope you are all enjoying the summer we miss you meowee and hope you are better (((hugs))) for all rosey
|
Hi, all. Warm day after several days of fog and wind. My bgl's have been higher than usual lately. Must be the bad eating.Sigh. Just can't get myself on a program. My apt. building is being sold again so that means more invasions of strangers and my taking time off from work. Lots of stress.
Rosey - sounds like you had a wonderful fourth. I haven't had a sunburn in many years because I rarely stay in the sun for long periods. |
Renacer, I've been counting carbs for years and know they affect my BGL. However, sometimes they don't which brings me puzzlement. I had pasta last night and still had a good (5.8 or 104.4) reading this morning.
No word from Meowee as yet although her profile shows she popped in yesterday - probably to check up on us. I think she goes for yet more tests tomorrow and do hope they can figure out what's wrong. This has been going on waaaaay too long! Got my exercise this morning moving 20 40 pound bags of earth from my car to the garden. Whew! Luckily I have a good strong back.....so far! |
Just survived a wild weekend in Toronto - a belated birthday celebration. I'm afraid the scale and I were not friendly this morning - not 200 but too darned close. BGL was fine all weekend though.
Back on track this morning. It was so nice to harvest lovely greens from my garden and even a yellow zucchini to put in my bowl and then cover with bean salad. I had lots of exercise today shovelling earth into my raised veggie bed - it sure takes a lot to fill a 12' by 4' by 2' bed. The bags I lugged last week barely covered the bottom so today I got a truckload. I hope everyone is doing well. Meowee reported in to the MODs - her test is over and now she is waiting for results. That's one of the hard parts! |
Hi, all. This thread has been slow lately. My bgl has been high lately. Could the pint of ice cream I ate last night have anything to do with it? :o We're having a heat wave here. Feel tired and bloated.
Ruth, your garden sounds wonderful. Love your new avatar. You'll work off the extra lbs in no time with all that earth hauling. Will keep my fingers crossed that meowee's tests confirm something definite and fixable. Rosey - Hope your computer is fixed soon. We miss you. |
Sure is lonely in here.
My BGL has been a bit unstable lately. Running out of pills and forgetting to re-order didn't help. Weight is up an amazing three pounds overnight! Yesterday was a rather high-salt and low water day and I know better. We shall overcome! |
Hi everyone,
I've been kind of MIA. Since Father's Day weekend I've been eating not so well, I follow my WLP on and off...I've been doing some exercise but I was absent to a couple of classes and weight ins.:o I picked up my lab results and I can see all the changes in my lifestyle are helping me a lot! My AC1 is 4.7 and my cholesterol 189.:) I need to work on my good cholesterol since it was low (30). Also one concern of mine are tryglicerids, the Dr. didn't mention it as being a concern but I'm kind of curious...They are at 242, I read that lots of factors can affect them including TOM and how long ago you ate. Well, TOM was with me and I ate lunch before leaving. What kind of advice can you give me regarding lowering them? For my surprise even that I have been eating too much in occasions and sneaking too much ice cream the weight still 154 pounds at the doctor's office. On Sunday I'll go to my weight in and face it. I feel really happy because I can see how all this is helping my health and I'm motivated enough to continue to my main goal. Hope everyone is good! |
Wow! Great HA1C! I am sure eating affected your triglycerides. My doc tests mine only if I've been fasting.
I dropped one of those pesky water weight pounds overnight despite going for Chinese at noon. I had won-ton soup and salad and then a single trip to the buffet for green beans and a steamed chicken and greens disk. No spring roll! It can be done! I had a very light salad supper and the BGL tests 7.7 this morning - too high. I'll just keep on keeping on. |
Hi everyone..still waiting for my computer :( my dh had surgury on his foot and he is not to walk on it for 3 weeks so we are mr amd mrs gimp :dizzy: him on crutches and me in a walker and taking turns with the wheelchair..actually we are getting along fine except i couldnt get to his computer but he figured out away for him to get the wheel chair in here today sooooo here i am..hopefully i will have my laptop back in a few days..ttfn and ill check back soon ((((hugs))) for all rosey

Hello friends!
Hope everyone is doing good. Not much around here, Glucose Levels are fine. I'm behaving.:p Today is a rainy day and I'm with my baby at home, he had a rough night waking up constantly crying in some sort of pain. My husband and I were really worry and sad, so I decided not to take him to day care today so I can keep an eye on him. Al least now he is jumping up and down and ate some grapes and banana.:) Enjoy your day and behave.;) |
Hi everyone..finally got my laptop back and its working great..wish i was as well..i took a nasty fall in the bathrm tuesday and had to have the perimedics come to help me up..i got a towel twisted in my walker and lost my balance and went over backwards, cracked my head as i fell.. to add to my embarassment i didnt have a stitch on :o as i was going to shower..yikes im sore and bruised but didnt break anything thank goodness..sounds like u all are doing well..has anyone heard from meowee? i worry about her..have a great day (((hugs))) rosey

Just checking in. Delta Fair is on and it's a very busy time for me. Please don't wish me fun at the Fair - it's mainly work and trouble-shooting for me.
My BGL is behaving better but weight is definitely stuck! :( All I can do is hang in and keep on eating the right stuff 80% of the time. (Corn on the cob was served at a BBQ dinner last night and I succumbed.) |
Hi, all. Wet fog here. My bgl was 163 this a.m. Bad eating. A combination of boredom and stress. Sigh.
Rosey - good to see you posting. Sorry about your fall, that's scary, but glad you are alright. Ruth - temptation is always with us and sometimes we have to give in. Tomorrow is another day, I always say. |
I just wanted to stop in and share my fantastic news I received at my check up today. My hard work over the past couple months to control my diabetes with a better diet and exercise actually paid off......DUH. My A1c today was 6.6!!!!!! That is the lowest it has ever been. I almost cried. My doctor, who I've had a love/hate relationship with, was very pleased. It was the best visit I have had in a long time. I am still on Cloud 9. Now I just need to keep it up. That is the key.

Hello everyone! I have been AWOL, I know but I have been having alot of stuff going on, most of it good. But something happened, because even though in one place it said I was subscribed to the thread, another said I wasn't. I wasn't paying attention that I hadn't heard any chatter from you ladies until yesterday. Hopefully, it's all good now.:)
For a lot of the summer I have had a revolving door with kids in and out and out of the 5 weeks I only had all three of them here together for one week. What happy chaos! The big guys are back to school since July 12th, and in 10 days the little one starts back. She says she is just about bored enough to want to go back and start 5th grade. The uniforms should be here the day before school starts.:crossed: The last 2 weeks we have been moving. The boys helped DH move the bigger furniture while they were home. I wish I was moving out of town--it's much easier than just a few blocks. We are about in now, just deciding what few other things we can fit in this little place. Then the REAL job will begin--getting the big monster house emptied and repaired to sell. Can't build the new house til the monster is sold. The big question/repair/expense will be getting gear mechanisms to replace in the crank-casement windows. If we can't get the right replacements for those, all of the windows will have to be replaced (like 35 -40 windows) We have a lot of stuff to store after 17 yrs in that house! The dog and Emily have had the toughest time adjusting to the new place. Poor dog--he had been boarded for vacation, and then when we picked him up, we took him to the new place. He didn't know what was going on, and for 5 days we couldn't get him in his cage where he goes while we are gone. And the HOWLING when we left. He's better now. Emily has days that she doesn't want to go, get her stuff, even go over to the big house, and other days, she wants to go and help pack up. School will be a help, I think--back to a familiar routine. Well, I'll have to catch up with you tomorrow. I need to get to be so I can go on call at 7am. Have a good Sunday everyone! Kathy |
I found it kathy! Im here!!
|
Good for you, girl:carrot: and :welcome3:
Did you find the forums for pregnant chicks? Bet they will be supportive, too. What a great time for you to try to be your healthiest. My boys were both fine back then (I was very good on my diet), but now I am Type 2. So far, I am diet controlled. I just realized that you are just a little older than my oldest son--He was 23 2 weeks ago. :wave:Well, Good Morning all! I had a yucky day on call, dragged out the cases all 12 hours. Missed a beautiful summer day being inside. I have been nursing a nasty cellulitis. What is up with that lately? This is the 2nd time since November, and 7 times since February with the "pink eye", which seems to flare up whenever I get a tendonitis or bursitis in my hip on that numb leg. Sheeesh:shrug: Last time, the cellulitis started with the bug bites, but this time it was a whack on the bed corner, but it didn't break the skin and the bruise I got was several inches away. Any Ideas, Ladies? Great news, StormKitty! keep going! Have a lazy day with my daughter today, so I think I will go and be lazy some more. Everyone have a lovely Monday. How's Meowee? :hug:Kathy |
Good morning, Chickies. I've not been around much as I am in the middle of chaos! I am having a studio built onto the side of my house and the construction folk have been in and out a lot. I was smart enough to put the doggage in the kennel for the week which has eased things a bit.
No official word from Meowee as yet - she is waiting once again for test results. Yesterday I finally realized how important it is to eat regularly to keep my BS even. I got involved with things and skipped lunch. I sure bottomed out mid-afternoon. I was as close to passing out as I've ever been in my 70 years! Some OJ and a small cheese sandwich fixed me up but it was scary! Today will be better with regular meals no matter what is happening. Enjoy your day - it's a gift! |
HI RUTH (and every one else here) ~ hope MEOWEE is feeling better soon; everyone misses her, including all of us over on the Physical Challenge's thread too. Thanks for pinch-hitting for her; I know she appreciates it. I have been doing really well keeping my blood sugar levels in check; do have to eat regular though. They are keeping pretty steady in the high 4's and low 5's; very, very happy about that. If they go up even slightly, I take a look to see what I ate the day before and make some modifications.
Hope everyone here has a great week; and take good care ... :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |
Hello All!
I hope everyone summer is just as lovely as can be. I haven't been here in awhile and I can tell what it's done for me. I've had quit the challenge of being good! With summer comes a lot of dining out and craziness! My AM BS have been high. I have not been eating as great as I could be AND more importantly I have NOT been exercising (regular). I need a kick in the butt! How do you ladies get back into a groove? |
Moni, I guess the best thing is to get your eating back on track first. Then maybe it will motivate you to try a new exercise routine. I am in that mode. I have to re-think and re-do my exercising with this move--I don't have a place in this little house to exercise. I am trying to plan to test the new ideas starting next week when Emily goes back to school and I'll also have more time to go back to water aerobics, and then tap classes will start again in 2 more weeks. I generally don't worry about my exercise in the summer because vacation for us is not laying on the beach. So I generally get plenty of exercise in, and because we are eating out, I tend to eat less and lose on vacation. But getting the diet back on track is always what trips me up.
Hope everyone had a good day. I had to sing at a funeral this morning, but then I was at school helping get the class lists reset in the computer lab all afternoon. That is a big chore with 20 classrooms to do. I am keeping out of trouble for the next week because I will be to busy! DH has been watching the Harry Potter movies with Emily so that they can go see the new one as the "last hurrah" before school starts. Everyone have a great Thursday. Kathy:hug: |
Hi Folks,
I have been MIA. I got married about 7 weeks ago and the before and after changes have kept me really occupied. I decided to join a diabetes support group. It meets twice a month and is comprised of woman 45+ with Type 2; I think it will be a good addition to my arsenal to fight this disease. I will keep you posted on how it goes. The good news is that the last time I went to my doctor for my diabetes check, she didn't even measure my A1C because she felt she didn't need to since it had been in range for a couple of years (6.1-6.5) Yippee! Sometimes I think my hard work is for noting but this was a giant reward. Hope all is well with everyone. DCM |
