Mini, welcome back. Believe me, I know how hard it is to formally exercise. My WATP tape is still sitting in the player.
Kathy, it sounds as if you have an active summer. It's interesting to hear you say you eat less when eating out. The opposite applies to me, I'm afraid. Great news, Active! Be sure to let us know any hints you hear. Checking in. It's very hectic around here with an addition being built - just a room and bathroom. They guys are here for coffee and muffins daily but I have resisted. BGL has been running a bit high though - maybe stress? It may be because my dogs are in the kennel - they are always such a relaxing delight and I miss them. Food id OK although I am really fighting hard to resist corn! So far I've had only one cob. |
Well, Ruth, we don't eat a lot of fast food as a rule when we travel because it makes me sick sometimes, maybe because we try not to as a rule at home. Besides, it's a lot more fun to try new foods in new places. So, that makes me paranoid to eat too much if we are eating out everyday. I am so much better remembering to decide which bad carbs I want--a roll and potatoes or dessert! Usually it depends on what kind of vegies they have also. It's easier if they have ones I like then I double up and have dessert. Mexico is usually the hardest--I can't tolerate the peppers that are too hot, and I cannot eat the cactus:barf:, so I'll eat the rice and beans or tortilla instead of the fried ice cream! Wish I could remember that when I am home.
I was looking at the thread about the fitness videos, and I think I will join up there to help me keep on track. New month, new attitude, time to start. I had to get some DVD's because most of my old VHS won't play on the new VCR (or won't track, or something). Got the 5 Day Slim Down which I hadn't seen before, and for a good cause, I got the Pilates for Pink Workout--$1 goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and it comes with a pink resistance band. Have 2 dance ones that I brought from the big house the last time I was there, so I shouldn't be bored for a little bit. Mix and match could be a lot of fun. Maybe I will take a basket, fill it with choices and pick out a 10 minute Solution type of thing to go with a mile walk everyday. I need fun, which is why I like water aerobics and tap dancing. "surprise, you chose this today" may be just enough fun to keep me motivated. Well, back to school--I had to come home at lunch to let in the pest control guy at the new place. We had a bad problem at the big house with ants, but this one seems to be spider central. :p See you later! Tiff--how are you doing? Gotta keep track of our new Momma! :hug:Kathy |
FBS 104
Hello everyone, I have been so busy trying to finish a quilt and a new baby outfit that is all completed and on its way to my grandbaby Beatrice Margaret who is now 3 months old. I am doing well and my first A1c check was 6.5. My doctor is beyond happy with me and wish his other patients could do so well. I have a question as usual. What diets are you on to lose weight. I can't complain right now. I have lost 22 lbs since being diagnosed May 15th of this year. I am on the ADA 1500 calorie diet now and have completely stopped loosing any weight. I also exercise with Leslie Sansone DVD's, I am doing the 4 mile ones and a couples days a week I add the 5 mile one. I break it up with some weight lifting and just do the treadmill. I do this 5 days a week. Never felt better for sure. I just want to know what you all are doing. I need to get down to 140. Thanks for your help and many good help and blessing to you all. Melanie in Colorado |
Hi Melanie. I love making baby quilts, especially for grandbabies! Unfortunately my two kids are through producing kids so I need to wait for great grandbabies!
It sounds like you are doing everything right to control your diabetes! :cheer: 22 pounds in 2½ months is excellent - up to 2 pounds a week is the most one should lose safely. I am following The South Beach plan and know it works - I seem to make a lot of detours and really do not have an exercise program although the WATP tape is sitting in the player. This afternoon I am off to Ottawa for a birthday bash which will be a real test - potato salad, pasta salad, corn and birthday cake are on the menu! I will limit my corn to one cob, eat only my own bean salad and see if I can share the cake with one of their dogs. (Labs are my friend at parties!) July was a very bad month for me with visitors, the Fair, parties and general confusion with construction so I did not lose an ounce. August MUST be better. I may re-establish my ticker with a new goal on Monday and get my focus back to reality! |
Evening all:hug: Hope you had a great weekend. I had a much better call night saturday and got almost 11 hours of sleep. I was pretty whipped from friday. School is just around the corner, we had a back to school social this afternoon. I have been trying Chromium after reading about it in an article, and I am very pleased at what it is doing for me. I didn't see much the first 2weeks taking 200 mg, but the 3rd week I went up to 300 mg and then I noticed there was some change. I hadn't noticed that it was making me eat less, but I have been eating an afternoon snack less often. AM blood sugars are now averaging 92mg/dl instead of 98, and evenings 95-100 instead of 98-105. Hey, I'll take 5 less average points anyday. I made one of those Slimfast shakes for dinner with frozen pineapple, and was it yummy--had a big lunch and was hungry for something sweet and cold. Read about an interesting marinade for beef or pork: 1 can of Dr Pepper, regular or diet, and 1 lb of meat in a ziploc bag 6 to 10 hours in the fridge. When ready to grill or broil, add your seasonings and cook as usual. My boys tried it and said it was good. See you ladies tomorrow. Kathy
|
Did my WATP 1 mile on the 5 Day Slim Down after lunch today. On my way!
Kathy:hug: |
Stuck right to my plan today and even worked in some exercise lugging stuff around outside. I forgot my meds last night but will remember tonight and hope to see a better FBGL in the morning. Didn't re-establish my ticker but today's weight was 198.
|
Good afternoon everybody! But where is everybody, lately? How are you today Ruth? How's Meowee?
Yesterday was 1st day of school chaos, so my day's plan was right out the window. For the first time in ages, my morning FBS was high-116mg/dl. But I was SO hungry for some reason, and ate badly all day. And everywhere, all day, were donuts and sweets. And I got no exercise in. Wheew! Glad that day is over.:dizzy: Today is going much better, and I went this morning to water aerobics, and the hungrys are gone. So we will see how it goes. The repair guy had to come out yesterday to check the washing machine we acquired with this house. It's on its last leg and leaking on the floor when it spins. DH got done early today, so we just got back from Sears after getting a new washer. Better now than later--the big stuff always goes out when company is coming. One year, the ice machine, dishwasher, microwave, and 2 burners of the ceramic cooktop went out between Halloween and Christmas--DH and I got expensive gifts that year! The worst was the dishwasher dying on Thanksgiving Day. Have a good one everyone! Kathy |
Hello everyone!
I have been MIA. I had a full house over the past days, my grandmother and niece came from Florida and a friend came from Puerto Rico. We had fun, I behave quite good and the weight still the same. Know back to my plan and exercises. Talk to you later!:) |
Hi Renacer and welcome back. I'm glad you stuck to your plan - especially with so much company.
Peony (my favourite flower), sounds like you are having a stressful week. I think the appliances all get together at night and plot! Meowee has checked in with the MODs but still finds sitting at the keyboard very painful. She may pop in one of these days. Is anyone else indulging in lots of our local veggies? I just love summer veggies and am planning to make an eggplant dish for dinner. It's Chinese inspired and needs me to grill the slices on the BBQ so I'd better get cracking at it! We just had a t-storm but it's sunny now so I'll take advantage. I've also been indulging in raspberries and blueberries - yum! Good stuff! |
Hi everyone..sry i have been mia..really busy having a going away party for my dd and family and helping them adjust esp my dd..her dh wanted to mov e,she didnt but is willing to give it a try..soooo they are on their way to oregon..shes sad and so am i but had to keep it together so it wasnt so hard for her..my sl and eating has been out of wack :?: to much stress..(((hugs))) for all and keep up the good job.. rosey
|
Hi, all. Been real busy at work and not eating well. BGL shows it.:o
Ruth - good for you eating all those vegetables. We have lots of locally grown vegs out here but I don't like to cook so I get prepared food, which, even in the fancy health places, vegs are limited. The fruit has been especially good this summer and I have been eating a lot of it. Rosey - I'm so sorry your daughter and family are moving. I know how much you enjoy spending time with them. Change is difficult. Maybe you can get busy with your crafts and take your mind off it. |
Thanks Ruth!
I did eat some *stuff* but since we walked so much it wasn't terrible with the scale. I forgot to mention, I went to the Endocrinologist and she was really pleased with how I'm managing my diabetes. They told me that there wasn't much they can do for me at the Diabetes Center but they wanted me to be engaged, so she wants to see me in six months. She also send me again for a Lipid Panel since the one that was done wasn't fasting and she sent me a albumin levels to make sure that everything is in order. Today FBGL was 106...I had some ice cream last night.:o I need to go back to my exercise routine. Have a great day! P.D. Summer veggies, yumm! I've been postponing my visit to a food coop that I found close to my neighborhood and need to head there ASAP. |
Evening, all!
Had a pretty good birthday on Thursday, and went out to breakfast this morning for my birthday (I would rather do that than dinner, and I have all day to work if off!). Couldn't go out before that because of the wacky weekend schedule we had. We're almost back into the school mode, so things are sailing along. Hope everyone had a good weekend. Kathy:hug: |
hi everyone..a beautiful sunny day here  rosey
|
Hi everyone.its a blustery day here..eating is going better..life goes on even tho i've been sad..so where is everyone :mag: summer such a busy time..ttfn ((((hugs)))) rosey
|
Sorry I've been MIA. Lots is happening around here. I'm having a room added to my house and have been in noise, dust and chaos for the past three weeks.
The mess plus the heat is affecting me, I'm afraid. Weight is up (partially water retention from the heat) and BGL has been going way too low in the night. Nothing like a 2.1 to wake you up at 3 AM! I am going to try adding more carbs for my evening meal which has been mainly grilled meat and veggies lately. We are heading into a stretch of very warm weather - temps to 100º is very strange for mid-August in Canada. Unfortunately my AC is disconnected because of the construction so.... Send me some of the Alaska air, OK? Today I have to figure out what to do with the seven big zucchini sitting on the kitchen table. I may slice and dry them, setting up the dehydrator on the porch as it really heats up the kitchen. I planted TWO seeds - one green and one yellow - and the plants are in major production mode. I also have about a dozen spaghetti squash developing. No sign of red tomatoes yet but I have enough Swiss chard for us all! Hope your Friday is fret-free and your weekend is great. |
Hi, all. BGL has been high. Still eating poorly. Weather nice. Busy at work.
Rosey - Hi. I know you must be missing your family. Maybe you can get a web cam so you can have virtual meetings regularly. Ruth - I'm jealous of your garden. You could stuff your large zucchini. I would love some chard. It's too much trouble to cook fresh chard and C&W stopped selling frozen chard. :( Have a good weekend. |
The zucchini are huge. A stuffed one would barely fit in my oven and would feed 12 people, I'm sure! A friend came over yesterday and left with four zeppelins in her car. Today I will tackle the others - I'll shred and freeze for baking in the fall and dry some too
I made sure to have more carbs with dinner last night and today my BGL is up too much. You can't win but it does all average out. It certainly was nice to sleep right through the night and having the AC restored made a difference too. Have a good weekend, Chickies. |
Popping in to say hello. Added my profile a few days ago. Ruth asked what plan I'm on, and I'm not. Shrug. The idea of keeping to someone else's program is overwhelming to me. I prefer to write down what I'm eating and then just adding up the calories at the end of the day. I don't even put the calories on the page till the end of the day. Believe me, I know ahead of time if I'm not doing well. I've tried counting carbs but it got too confusing with the whole net carb/fiber, etc. question. I know enough to know that I can't overdo the carbs anyway, so I'm selective with them.
Regardless of what I do, I've GOT to quit the late-night snacking. That's my enemy. But I don't sleep either, so I'm up and temptation reigns. So hello all. Hoping for support and encouragement as I head down this new and unknown road. |
Hi everyone..sunny day here sl are in the 100's..welcome pkmom:welcome2: im rosey from alaska :)..we are going out to eat tonite:) my dh brother is visiting and their mom wants to treat all of us..its going to be chinese my favorite..since my dh surg its been awhile since ive been out of the house..hes recovered nicely..hoping u have a great day..meowee if you are lurking im thinking about you chickie  rosey
|
Hi another beautiful day here..the dh has gone salmon fishing so ive got some time for me :dizzy: i do spoil him tho, lol my fault..sooo im working on my quilted wall hangings today uninterrupted(sp?) hope you all are having a great day too ((((hugs))) rosey
|
Sounds strange to ehar Alaska is in the 100's, Rosey. Everybody thinks we are all ice and snow north of the 49th. I didn't know you were into quilting. I am quite addicted and am hoping to finally FINISH a few things this fall. I'm great at design and piecing but have not yet mastered quilting properly. I do a lot of quilt tops for Victoria's Quilts. They have it in the USA too, I believe.
We have finally cooled down a bit - just up to 80 today. I must say the hot and humid days were not good for me. Water retention was rife. I'm hoping the cooler weather will help. BGL has been pretty good after two or three middle of the night lows. Where's the Dawn Syndome when you need it? I'm really concentrating on eating more veggies these days and am madly in love with them grilled. I actually forgot to cook meat the other night but quickly did two eggs for some protein. Meowee is still not feeling great. I spoke with her Sunday and she said sitting at the PC is agony for her. She will check in here when she can. |
:mag: rosey
|
Hi, all. BGL is high these days. Do my labs next week. I'm not seeing an endo anymore, just my internist. Might ask him to up the glucotrol. We have foggy mornings and sun at midday, typical summer weather. Annoying day at work. My boss is going on vacation next week so he's clearing his desk. Guess who's desk is getting piled up? Grrr.
Sorry to hear about Meowee. I hope she gets well soon. Ruth, Rosey -- a shoutout to you! |
Nice boss! ope you enjoy not having him around.
Just finished a marathon baking session for the Church sale tomorrow and escaped nearly unscathed. I did eat one square because there was an extra when I did my packaging. Right now I have bread on the rise - am thinking Chelsea buns since they sell so well but we'll see how I feel after dinner. I may just make some dinner rolls. BGL has been running fine but weight is still 197 or higher. Grrrr! |
good news
I made a trek to the urgent care clinic Sat. because I hurt my knee and while I was there I had them check my weight. I'm down to 257! The last weight they had was 9/02/08 - 277. The highest was 282, so technically I'm down 25lbs! WHOOHOOOO!!!!!
|
Good going, pkmom. How's the knee and how did you hurt it?
Usual post weekend stuff happening here. I will be so glad to have the construction done and have the house to myself. |
The knee is in a brace. The doc said I most likely injured it cleaning my bathtub on my knees, following that up with multiple trips up and down the stairs (bedroom up, laundry room in basement). His theory is that once you're 40 you shouldn't ever be on your knees again. LOL! Oh that I could get away with that!!!!
|
Hope it heals fast for you, PK. Knee pain is no fun.
I am off to see my orthopaedic surgeon this morning to try to find out why my "fixed" knee still hurts 20 months after the replacement! My BGL was too high this morning. Corn on the cob for dinner and snacking on banana chips could be the culprit. Ya think? Today has to be a pure day. |
Hi, all. We're having warm weather here. Quiet day at the office. Only 3 of us here. Yippee! My BGL is on the high side still. Went for my labs yesterday and realized my PCP hadn't ordered an A1c! :?: Think I'm finally getting fed up with my weight. About time.
PK - Congrats on the weight loss. Hope the knee gets better. Ruth - did the doctor explain why your bionic knee is bothering you? Rosey - Hope things are okay with you. |
Hi, Rosetta. Thanks for popping in - we seem pretty lonely in here. I guess some of the others are chatting on specific diet boards.
The knee is still perfectly aligned. The doc says the pain is from swollen tissue being pinched by the joint. This causes more inflammation and then more pain. So I am just continuing with the anti-inflammatories. However, I have decided the best way to fix this is to strengthen the knee so am going to gym for about an hour three mornings a week to work with a personal trainer. We are going to focus on building up the muscles in that area. Of course losing 20 pounds would be a help too! |
Hi everyone..rain rain go away..rosey wants to play..:?: dh and brothers have been fishing for silver salmon every day and have got their limit..nice for winter..moose huntings coming up soon so hopefully i will have a full freezer..sry we all have our aches and pains..does it come from age or abusing our bodies ? probably both..my eating back on track..since i have started the process for gastric bypass surg, my dr wants me to eat smaller portions and the right foods to prepar myself and so far so good..it will be our 40th wedding anniversary tomorrow..wow seems like such along time but went by fast.. we are going to grill steaks and a huge salad..my dh picked me a bouquet of wild flowers:love: ahhh what more could a girl want..hoping your weekend is great  rosey
|
Hi everyone..my guys went to the cabin so i have a day and night to myself ;)..i had a wonderful anniversary..imagine 40 yrs and still love and esp like my dh..im going to be working on my quilted wall hangings today..im making 4 of them 36x36..im using mckenna ryan patterns.. all alaskan themed picture quilts with my own twist( i never follow a pattern exactly:dizzy:..anyways hope u all had a great weekend and have a good day.. rosey
|
A wildflower bouquet! That is sooo romantic. Count your blessings, Rosey, cuz he's a keeper!
I quilt too and spent most of the afternoon finishing up a wee quilted project. I'll take a picture and post it sometime. I have lots of projects but don't seem to get them finished. I've had two sessions at the gym with my PT who drives me hard although she is sweet and gentle. I just love her as she's so encouraging. No stiffness or soreness either as she really stresses stretching after the sessions. Survived the weekend parties with no damage and a good BGL reading this morning. September is going to be a good month - I just feel it! |
Hi, all. We've been having hot weather here. Fortunately, it's cooled down a bit today. Saw my PCP yesterday. He switched me from glucotrol to glyberide, saying that it's better for people over 60. Never heard that before. Otherwise my blood pressure and cholesterol are fine. Ruth and Rosey - how are you ladies doing with your quilting projects? I'm hopeless at crafts. My weaving and pottery classes were disasters.
I get out early today for the long weekend. Yippee! Have a good one, everybody. |
I saw mine yesterday too, Rosetta. He has ordered HA1C and some cholesterol tests and hopes I can reduce my meds. :cb: He's also all pleased that I am going to the gym. He says that will certainly improve both knees. He also took me off Celebrex and gave me an anti-inflammatory similar to Aleve plus dire warnings about stomach problems. Luckily my stomach is made of stainless steel.
I'm doing fine at quilting - just need to start to FINISH stuff! By the way, speaking of crafts, I started calligraphy classes once and was so messy with ink that nobody would sit near me. The teacher suggested I quit after three lessons and I agreed! |
Morning everyone..cloudy and rainy here today..my dh came back from his cabin with a moose..hunting season just beginning and now we will have a full freezer this winter.moose, salmon and halibut..yum..but lots of work for us as we process our own meat..hope you are not offended..huntings a way of life for us but know others its not..hope your long weekend was fun  rosey
|
Hi Rosey. I'm sure not offended. We have lots of folks in this area who rely on hunting to stock the freezer for winter. I often get offered deer, moose or bear from my hunting neighbours.
You know, it really feels like fall. Maybe we should start a new Fall Chat thread and see if we get more folks joining in. The gym was closed yesterday but I did make myself go to work-out this morning. I also finished a major and fiddly quilting project and got it mailed off. I took pics but can't seem to load them into the computer. I just may have to finally read my manual. Food has been good lately and my morning readings are fine. I also took my BP this morning at the gym and was amazed to see 114/66. Something is working! |
Hi, all. We're having warm fall weather here. My bgl has been strange. Last Monday it was 200! The day before I had low bgl episode and had to take a glucose tablet. The last couple of days it's been in the 140s, which is not as low as I'd hoped after the dose uppage, but I can live with it.
Ruth, I love your new avatar. The only caligraphy I was good at was Japanese caligraphy. Haven't done it in 20 years because it gets really messy. I hope you get your quilt photos downloaded. Would love to see them. Good work getting to the gym regularly. Rosey - I'm a city girl, so am not too into hunting. But I sure would appreciate fresh salmon and halibut. I hope you get some better weather before winter closes in. |
