Sorry I have been a bit MIA lately, I've been depressed and off my plan and unable to find motivation to do anything diet wise. I'm slowly trying to get my insulin doses down now.
Speaking of which, I have a bit of a dilemma. I was pondering what would happen to me once I moved back to the USA, if I ever did. We have a free health care system here, all prescriptions and anything health care related is free. But when we move that's sure to change. I worked it out that I'd have to pay over $450/month just on INSULIN alone.
Unfortunately I didn't go to the store . . . tomorrow is another day . . . the stir fry will have to wait. In the meantime, it is dinner time and I guess I'll have salmon and a nice big spinach salad tonight instead.
THIN . . . I keep my stir-fry as easy as can be. About a tsp of oil, a bunch of sliced onion and chopped garlic, a few carrot shreds, a bit of broccoli and cauliflower, and a fairly big handful of thinly sliced cabbage (coleslaw mix works great, too). Throw in the thawed shrimp and a tsp or two of reduced salt soy sauce and heat through. Nice big plateful for next to no calories. Yum. Lots and lots of low-carb veggies -- a diabetics best friend.
CASANDRA . . . Great to see you back with us. Hang in there, Chickie. Oh wow . . . wish I had an answer for you, but we have a national health plan here in Canada too although it doesn't cover medications unless you are over 65. My best thought is to start checking into the feasibility of insurance coverage (either privately or through a prospective employer) before you return to the US. Perhaps if you contact the ADA (American Diabetes Association) they can give you some leads.
ROSEY . . . I know what you mean about mess. Today I discovered they had knocked both the telephone and my sewing machine off the desk downstairs. Sometimes you've just got to wonder how they can possibly cause so much havoc is so short a time.
Happy to say that my BGL is much better now . . . 4.1 (74) before dinner and 6.4 (115) two hours later. Sooooo, I'm having a 100 calorie bag of Smart Pop as a bedtime snack. Wonder what the morning will bring?
Hello! I have not been by to say hello in a coon's age. I have been busy working in the garagio, and trying to keep up with 'stuff'. My bg has continued to be all over the place. High in the morning, too low after breakfast, too low after dinner, then high before bed. I am rather frustrated with it. I have an appointment with a new doctor on Wednesday, and I hope he will be able to help get me balanced with the diabetes, as well as my thyroid problems.
I finally got my treadmill up and running again, so I walked a mile on it today. I have been sick for the past few days though and did not even want to work with clay. The treadmill time actually seems to have helped me feel better. At least, that is my theory and I am going to stick to it!
I will try and check in more often. Take care everyone!
So glad to see you MONET, but sorry to hear that your BGL is erratic and you've not been feeling well. The extra walking is bound to help. Things are really sounding serious when even the Garagio doesn't beckon to you.
For me, it was a great morning . . . up at 6:30 with a BGL of 5.8 (104) which is the best morning reading I've seen in the better part of two weeks. I have been sleeping until almost 8 am lately, wonder if that has anything to do with it. Maybe I'll have to start setting the alarm -- major bummer for we retired types.
It's raining off and on again around here and I just finished watching a documentary about Hurricane Hazel, the worst storm that ever hit Toronto of all places. Usually they kind of fizzle out by the time they cross all the land areas before they make it to Southern Ontario. It was October 15, 1954 and I was 11. We lived in the suburbs and the scariest part for me was the fact that my parents couldn't get home from work downtown and I spent a terrible night, in the dark all by myself thinking that the world was coming to an end. Since I moved down here, we get a lot of hurricane tails, but nothing that I remember as vividly as Hazel.
Watching that documentary also reminded me of this little bit of trivia -- doesn't exactly relate to food though -- just to television -- Researchers at Kansas State University found that people who watched a mere 15 minutes of television had diminshed brain wave capacity when compared to the non-viewing control group . . . Is it any wonder that TV has become known as the "boob tube"?
Anyway . . . better get a move on since I already wasted some time on the TV . . . Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking day planned. See you all later.
I've been good for 6 days in a row... eating well and exercise everyday. I tried on a pair of jeans at a store on Saturday and they did not look too bad! I need jeans for my trip next month, but I still have 5 weeks so I won't buy them yet - I might lose a few more lbs by then.
Nothing new around here, hoping for another good week without falling to temptation.
Meowee, I hav seen that Hazel documentary, amazing that the hurricane could get so far inland to affect Toronto - it was quite the storm. Hopefully a once in a 1000 years occurrence!
Another great day (BGL-wise) shaping up for me. Happy to see a 5.4 (97) this morning. Planning for a good eating and exercising day to keep it that way.
Great going on the jeans NSV THIN . . . keep up the good work.
Without the Insulin, my dietary balance is so much more important to BGL stability -- hopefully both (lack of insulin and dietary balance) will prove good for weight loss too. I was tempted to let the scale out of the corner this morning; but I promised myself he was staying there until the end of the month and stay he will.
Think I'm going to start a poll thread about the four main methods of good BGL control (for type II's anyway) and hopefully we'll drag some of our regulars back to us and get a few newbies to join us too. If there is anything I know for absolutely sure it's that the incidence of Diabetes in both the general population and (logically) the 3FC population has not miraculously undergone a steep decline recently. I'll come back and post a link to the Poll when I've got it set up.
In the meantime hope you all get your plans laid for a great moving and shaking kind of day . . .
Hi everyone.. sry for not posting yesterday.. i was babysitting to very lively 9 yr olds.. they kept me busy..its sunny and cold here this am..my sl was 91.. yesterday was a bad "eating" day for me.. i had chocolate and carmel apples and everything in between ugh .. ive been angry at the scale as i have been on a plateu for weeks now and after being so careful i was just frustrated and ate junk all day long todays a new beging right hope u all have agreat day to rosey
Oh well ROSEY -- those junk days happen to us all -- unfortunately. The bottom line, of course, is to stop at one in a row and get right back at it.
Good Morning Everybody . . .
My BGL is up again this morning at 6.7 (121) . . . . . . Two possibilities come to mind -- I slept in an extra hour this morning -- and I was a little higher than usual at bedtime because I had a Lean Cuisine that contained rice for dinner last night -- Hopefully it will be back down again later today.
Weather report is calling for mostly sunny today -- so, naturally, it's been raining so far this morning. Hope it stops soon since I have to pick up meds for myself and insulin for Jazz,
I've had a pretty busy morning anyway. Picking up after cat damage. Mouse threw up a hairball (and the rest of his stomach contents) on one of my new rugs in the middle of the night. Then the kittens knocked over the brand new bottle of soda water I had opened to clean the rug and proceeded to roll it around the kitchen dumping the contents everywhere and playing happily in the resulting mess. Life is definitely not dull.
Another insteresting day in my E:mail in-box . . .
And then, here is a handy data-base from Everyday Health with a pretty comprehensive listing of just about all the drugs currently available (not just for Diabetes) . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/public...hByLetter.aspx . . . which I think deserves it's own sticky.
Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking day on the go . . . will see you all a little later . . .
Oh well ROSEY -- those junk days happen to us all -- unfortunately. The bottom line, of course, is to stop at one in a row and get right back at it.
Words to live by!

Ar you copying me? yesterday we had the same BG and this morning too, mine was 6.7 although I had absolutely NOTHING to cause it to be high. I was an angel all week, really.
I don't mind it being high if I've been bad... but sheeesh!
