Since I was little my mother sang to me:

Beans, beans, the musical fruit
The more you eat, the more you toot
The more you toot, the better you feel
So eat your beans with every meal!

I guess the advice stuck.

Several other versions of that, here is another one

Beans beans, a wonderful treat,
The more you eat the more you poot,
The more you poot the more you eat,
Beans beans, a wonderful treat

Aside from that, beans are way up on the list of superfoods. Protein, carbs, fiber and a multitude of different minerals. All very important.

For an interesting treatsie on nutritions of beans:

Oh my goodness!!! Are we going to have to separate you two??

Beans were a staple in my household as a child, too...sometimes that was the only thing to eat.....prolly why I won't eat them now.....Yea, every meal had either beans or potatoes, and always some kind of bread. But we all got so much more physical exercise and sunshine back then--child labor and all. I haven't eaten that way since I left. Oh, how I loved to bake as a girl...all the way up to a few years ago. Nobody needs that many carbs.

Oh, my, FlufflyPuppy, yes, I could eat more. Much, much more. But it would all go straight to my backside. And frontside. And sideside. Pretty much all around.

On a "we're all so different" note....I grabbed the heel of my flat footed, skinny-butt son last night. Which I hardly ever do because his feet are so sensitive. And I was shocked to feel squshy fat-like tissue beneath his heelbone. Huh? My heels are rock-hard. How can this poor boy walk?

I know we're two weeks in, but is it too late to join? If not, I'd like to lose 4 pounds before January!

Oh my, I do love some pintos and vidalia onion! My problem is that I love them best with cole slaw and cornbread. And, by the way, the version I always heard was:
Beans. beans, good for your heart.
The more you eat, the more you fart.
The more you fart, the better you feel.
So, eat some beans with every meal.

Just a tip, if you will put a peeled potato in the beans while you cook them, it will absorb some of the problem. Just DON'T EAT THE POTATO!

Oh, the things you get to talk about when you can't sleep.

Welcome NCQueen!

I did not know that trick about the potato! Interesting. I also don't find beans to be that musical, maybe because I'm vegan or something? Perhaps my body adjusted long ago to large amounts of beans and plant matter. I assert that I never, ever toot, ever. Just don't ask Mr. Snark if that's true or not.

Happy Monday, ya'll! Ready for another wonderful week?

Mrs. Snark, you are not the only one who doesn't have an issue with beans. I only find it to be a problem if I eat them every day of the week.

JB, That is one of the first and favorite versions I heard but I could not remember how it went I tried the potatoe thing also and found it worked purt much. But the two things I found that work best is heating the beans to a boil then letting them sit for a few hours or overnignt then rinse, cooking them in fresh water. The second thing is having the right pro-biotics in the system. I take a probiotic daily in the morning and also I usually eat some saurkraut, home made-fermented, not the sterile canned stuff, which is full of probiotics which produce little or no gas. These help with digestion of other vegtable things including beans and result in very little gas.

According to research 18 times is the average, therefor "normal" number of times we pass gas daily.

No-name, your weight bounces around as badly as mine does I really expected to be under 200 today.... so much for expectations

BFR - it's normal for me since I fast 3 days a week. It always goes up over the weekend since I eat normally then. No worries here about it (except that one odd blip last week after a fast day which turned out to be - TMI alert - because of my period!) Hope you hit onederland soon!
