Thanks MsWolf for clarifying that. It's what I was afraid of. With it that way the chances of me ever being able to start a new thread are small or of ever getting to announce I've made goal, because the bar keeps moving when others start a thread. Even if I am making progress too because I only have about 30 lbs to goal. Wouldn't it be better to carry your own personal challenge over to the new thread and have the option of starting a new one or not (not, in the case that a new thread was just started?)

redballoon- it really is motivating though! I personally don't care if I EVER win, just that I progress. It's a nice reminder when I feel things are moving along slowly and then see the next challenge starts with a little lower goal weight for me. For some reason I'm better able to stay patient and see my progress this way.

At this point I have 18 or so pounds to go and I plan on sticking through it with the 5# challenges, even if it takes 200 challenges to get there (hope not).

I'm never going to win. It is currently taking me more than a month to lose 5 pounds. I don't really care. The point is that it keeps me focused on a few pounds instead of all of them, and I get daily support. It really feels good to start each challenge with a lower weight, even if it's only 2 pounds lower (or less!). That's a win in my book.

Here's a benefit of the 5-pound challenge that surprised me: I get all excited just to see a *goal* in the next decade. Little things make me happy now

I hope you find what works for you.

I actually find it incredibly motivating that every time we start a new challenge, my starting weight is a little less each time.

Since I started joining in these challenges, I have lost a total of 20 lb and I've only won one or two. Is that motivation enough?
