Chicks in Control, March Exercise!!

Hey, ya'll!

Tomorrow is March... let's keep up the great work and double our efforts! We're becoming fabulous, strong, fit women! :hat: (men are also welcome)

New people are welcome... challenge yourself this coming month!

:woops: :running: :yoga: :ebike: :lifter: :belly: :wl: :workout:

lessthansign3 02-28-2006 09:59 PM

I don't like to set specific challenges for myself because if I break them I start to feel bad :( So I guess I'll just be general and say I'd like to work out as often as I can every week, preferrably five or more days every week, but if I can't do it I'll just pick up the next week.

Just gotta keep on truckin'. Whee.

plb@m 03-01-2006 06:58 AM

My B-day is on the 23 and I want to feel and look good for it, so I'm going to add abs this month .

New goal for march
2,300 ab reps
1000 mins elliptial

ellis 03-01-2006 08:02 AM

Great goals, ladies! :hat:

lessthansign3, I hear ya re: breaking personal challenges. And sometimes we set ourselves up for failure when we set our goals too high. I'm very guilty of doing that!

I'm going to commit to 6500 steps on my pedometer a day, plus three exercise classes a week.

Donna, you'll have a stomach of steel for your birthday!

dgpebbles 03-01-2006 09:19 AM

Hello everyone...My goal this month is still to reach 1000 minutes of cardio exercise...last month I only reached 883 but if I wasn't sick for over a week I would have made it...so this month I am going to reach it...I am also going to add in more weight lifting workouts and stomach exercises...

great goals everyone ...I know we all can do it..

plb@m, good luck with the abs!! :cheer:

dalai_lala 03-01-2006 09:35 AM

Well, last night I almost blew it. I was so close to just not exercising yesterday, but finally at 9:30 I decided it just had to be done so I hit the elliptical for half an hour (a record for me).

My plan for March is: MWF elliptical, TThS weights, Sunday off except for stretching every morning and evening.

Also, I wanted to show off my updated ticker... I just broke below 270 after two months! :carrot: I was between 275 and 271 forever, it seemed...

Happy Wednesday everyone!

FishWoman 03-01-2006 11:33 AM

Happy March, everyone!

So far I have walked 20 minutes today, I will definitely walk 20 minutes this evening (or I won't get back to the apartment!) and, I brought my gym clothes, so if I'm not working too late, I will stop at the gym before walking home.

Well, being sick last month definitely knocked down my exercise time. But I am feeling so much better, and rarely even need my inhaler anymore! I am going to try for at least 1250 minutes this month. I would like to hit 1500, but we shall see.

Now we just need warmer weather!

Yesterday I got in 20 minutes on the bike and 8201 steps on my pedometer. :cheer:

Good going, girls!!

dalai_lala 03-02-2006 09:29 AM

Good Wednesday

I done good... :)

I did my AM stretches and crunches, added some sets with 10 lb dumbbells in the morning. In the evening I did my PM stretches, took a brisk walk around the block to warm up, then did the elliptical for 23 minutes (1000 steps).

My right leg is still tightening up too much during the elliptical, sometimes cramping. That's why I started stretching in the first place, and it helps some, but I still had to stop too much to relax my calf muscle. So I added the warm up walk to see if that would help more. It didn't seem to. I'll do that a few more times, though, before I decide it's not working. Also, I have done elliptical three days in a row (the plan is to do elliptical every other day, shared with upper body weight training on the other days to give my legs a break).

One more piece of info.... when I was in middle school/junior high I went to the doctor for back pain and found that I had a slight curvature of the spine which makes my right leg about 1/4 inch shorter than my left. I wore a lifted shoe all through high school and college, until I moved out on my own and couldn't afford them anymore. I had completely forgotten about it after ten years or so.... I am going to the doctor in April, I think I'll have her check and see if I have outgrown the problem or if it's still a factor. That may be causing enough stress on my right leg to incur the tightness. :?:

Happy Thursday!

Lala

I've actually decided on a more specific fitness goal for this month!! I really want to work on my endurance. My asthma often keeps me from doing too much, especially jogging or running, so I want to gradually step it up so I can overcome this. Right now I can speed walk (4.0 on the treadmill) for 25 minutes and then ride the exercise bike for another 20 minutes on top of that but I'd like to be able to speed walk a full 45 minutes, or even be able to jog for 10 minutes straight. I usually have to stop jogging after a minute or two, which sucks a lot. I'm young, I should be able to do this stuff!! Ah well.

Good afternoon, everyone! Looks like everyone had a great start for the month of March! Good going, all!

My basic March exercise goals are rather simple: minimum 30 minutes lifting 5 days a week (preferably M-F, with weekends off), minimum 30 minutes cardio 5 days a week, 10,000 steps a day weekdays and 5,000 weekends. Treadmill steps count (:D).

(geez, what a slacker I am on weekends )

So, how'd I do yesterday, March 1? Excellent, thank you! 30 minutes lifting, 40 minutes treadmill and 10,119 steps.

Off to a good start, I think!

plb@m 03-02-2006 12:52 PM

lessthansign3- I know how you feel I have asthma too. Be careful and take to slow you'll get there.

I got in my exercise today 45 mins ellip and 100 abs .

Hope everyone is doing good.

March goal for newbie me!

I am trying to seriously hack away at this addition that made itself home on me after 2 babies. My total goal is to lose about 48 pounds. My March mini-goal is to lose 8-10 pounds, get moving more, play with my 2 year old more, eat better.
My sister gets married on April 7th and I want to look and feel better than I do now, too!:carrot:

susie_sunshine 03-02-2006 09:04 PM

ok, I have the food part of my life under control. Now I have to get in gear with the exercising. March with be my month to do this! I will workout regularly. I do have problem though. I have Fibromialgia and morning workouts are realy really difficult. I can barely move for the first 1/2 hour after I get up and in the evenings after i've worked all day i'm just exhausted. My prime energy time is mid-day but that's out of the question since i work full time. I just have to suck it up and get up realy realy early or do this right after I get home from school before supper! Wish me Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hit my marks yesterday. Cardio, lifting and 11,383 steps. Yay!

Sounds like everyone is off to a good start! Glad you're feeling better Donna. And, good luck, Susie!

TGIF all!

Yesterday I didn't do regular exercise but I did cut the grass for 40+ mins and did some other yard work that I'm not counting...I think grass cutting counts cause it gets your heart going and makes you sweat..

Thursday and Friday

Still keeping up! Thursday and Friday, AM stretches, crunches, and dumbbells in the morning, PM stretches and elliptical in the evening. Today (Friday) I also slipped out for a walk around a couple of blocks just to get out of the house and off of my bum for a while.

I keep struggling with the whiney-ness of "I'm too tired" and "I don't wanna" but you guys and my husband are really keeping me going. My hubby hates mornings but he's in there every morning on the elliptical working harder and longer than I ever have... how can I wimp out and do nothing when he's doing that!? And you all are great examples too to help me want to post good stuff too! Thank you, thank you!!

Happy weekend! :dizzy:

ellis 03-05-2006 09:03 AM

ugh. I'm back on track with my exercise. I found the strength to get up at 7:30 yesterday morning for my exercise class. I SO did not want to go, and almost turned off the alarm, but I did it! :hat: And boy, am I aching today.

I need to remember something another member said awhile back... something to the effect of:
Even when I don't want to exercise (and that's most of the time), I just DO it, though even as I'm tying my shoelaces I'm thinking, "I hate this! I don't want to do it!" And then I've done it, and it's over, and it's okay that I didn't want to do it. I feel good when it's over, and I've done something postitive for my body.

I think that's where I (and many of us) get hung up about exercising. I keep thinking that some day I'm going to wake up and think, "I LOVE exercising! I can't WAIT to get on the treadmill!" Well, I just don't know that that's ever going to happen. And you know, that's okay! I hate doing a lot of things, but I do them anyhow, because they're good for me!

Sorry... didn't mean to go off on a tangent. :lol3:

Keep up the great work, ladies!! :cheer: :cheer:

Saturday exercise

Ellis - I'm starting to think about exercise like going to work. It's my job, I've gotta go wether I "feel" like doing it or not.

Saturday - AM stretch (as always!). I was supposed to do upper body weights in the evening, but my husband talked me into walking the mile and half to the TCBY for fat-free, sugar-free (but not calorie free) yogurt. Three miles later I was ready to collapse! Oddly, I have done three miles before and not felt THAT bad... maybe I was just worn out from actually exercising every day last week, as I've never done that before.

Anyway, it seemed like a good idea at the time, but it only served to remind me how far I still have to go. Sigh... But, it did inspire me to challenge myself more. I am going to try to work my way up to doing that walk without collapse. I'm going to pick a halfway point landmark and walk to that every day that I can (depending on school and weather), until I can go all the way. Our grocery store is across the street from the TCBY, so I'll eventually shoot for that as my destination. :running:

Good luck and good exercise everyone!

My husband starts a new job tomorrow. He's going to have to start getting up much earlier. I'm going to do it too and hit the treadmill before school. I realy want to lose another 10 bs before going to Europe.

FishWoman 03-06-2006 11:05 AM

I think I walked as much this weekend as I exercised all last month!
Friday was 60 minutes of walking - I picked my husband up at the train station, and later that night we walked over to Union Square and met a friend of mine for appetizers and drinks;
Saturday DH and I walked for 4 hours! We walked all over Manhattan. It was fun, but it was so cold and windy out!
Sunday morning DH went back home, but I walked over 2 1/2 hours around lower Manhattan.
Today will just be the regular 40 minutes of walking (maybe some yoga, maybe not)

I would like to challange myself...

I just began a program at the Y. I log in each time I exercise and make a record of what I do.
For now on the weight machines I am doing one set of mostly 8 reps. By the end of the month I would like to get all sets up to 12.
I am also doing 20-25 minutes of cardio, I would like to get it up to 30 minutes( twice weekly)
I can do this!!:carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

Sunday/Monday exercise

Sunday was my day off... boy did I need that! This is the first time ever I have managed to exercise every day for a week, I'm quite proud of myself.

But even better, after my day off I got back to work today (Monday): AM stretch, crunches, 10 lb dumbbells in the morning then PM stretches and the elliptical for 30 minutes this evening. I was worried that I would take a day off and run with it, and never get back to exercising again (as I so frequently do).

So.... :carrot:

Happy Monday, all...

You're all doing great, girls!! :hat:

I got on the bike for 25 minutes last night. I meant to only do 20, but I knew I wasn't going to get all my steps in for the day on my pedometer. So I did an extra five, the entire time muttering, "I hate this, I hate this."
My steps for the day were 6629.

DancingAngel 03-07-2006 01:49 PM

I'm doing well so far! Although, it looks like I'm going to have to take an unanticipated rest day tomorrow. I'm giving blood this afternoon, and I understand that working out is not recommended for at least 24 hours. I hate to miss a weekday, but I'll try to remember that my AB+ may be of greater benefit to somebody than just one hour of exercise is to me!

Anyway, here's how it looks so far:
March 1 -- 55 minutes functional fitness (TLT workout)
March 2 -- 60 minutes step aerobics
March 3 -- 50 minutes weight work w/aerobic intervals
March 4 -- 85 minutes (72 step/hi-low, 13 stretch)
March 5 -- intentional rest day
March 6 -- 54 minutes hi-low aerobics (48) and abs (6)
March 7 -- 60 minutes The Firm vol. 1

Everybody keep up the good work!

 Can't tell you how many minutes of whatever exercise I've spent uttering that exact same phrase!

Great job, folks, let's keep it up. We're already nearly a quarter of the way through March!

Hit my marks yesterday, after having thoroughly enjoyed a Super Slacker weekend. Can you believe that even if you combined Saturday and Sunday, I still didn't crack 4,000 steps? Did better yesterday, thank goodness.

Today, though, could prove to be an issue. As I was finishing my strength for today and getting ready to do my leg presses, the cord snapped. My brand new home gym is now worthless until I can get someone out here to fix it. ((cry)) I have a call into them right now.

If they can't get out here today or tomorrow, my whole strength training program is in jeopardy. I have a few bands and dumbbells, so I can do *something* but it won't be the same intensity. My highest dumbbell is only 12lb.

I'm scared...

UPDATE:

The repair firm called back not 15 minutes after I made that post. He had a tech who had a hole in his schedule for the afternoon, so he plugged me in the hole! Cable fixed (and all others checked to be sure) and we're back in business.

((Whew)) :)

Legs didn't want to ,but got in 45mins today and 100abs.

Lena, thank goodness! What a nightmare! :yikes: Typical, eh? You just get started on some program and either your machine breaks, or you get bronchitis or some damned thing. I always think I'm going to develop cancer every time I start a new exercise program. :lol3:

 Believe me, I can believe it. I remember one night a few years ago... going to bed with about 480 steps on my pedometer.

DancingAngel, good for you giving blood!

I just got back from my exercise class. 30 minutes. I'm alarmingly short on steps, though. Somehow I've got to rack up another 4000 before midnight...
Oh, and I've lost another 2 pounds! :hat: I think I may put my weight tracker back next week if all continues to go well. :D

Tuesday Exercise

Ellis - Good job on the extra five minutes; I know the feeling. I get to where I want to quit but I just keep reminding myself that I just can't stop before I've at least reached last workout's time or step number.

Lena - That's really lucky that he could fix your machine same day! Thank goodness! And Ellis is right, every time I have started a new exercise regime I catch a cold (or fall in the tub and bust my tailbone - ouch!). It happened this time, too, I got sick and didn't exercise for a whole week, but about that time I joined here  and was able to get back to it and keep going.

Which reminds me, thank you so much to everyone here for being so inspiring and supportive! You are all the best!

Anyway... Tuesday:
AM stretch, crunches, 1.5 mile walk in da 'hood
PM stretch, upper body weights
