Just did my 40 minutes of walking yesterday. I *almost* went to the gym, but ended up working late, and at 9:00 p.m. I just wanted to go home:o I need to get back into doing my yoga, and some more intense cardio.

Oh well, this project will be over by April 30th, and then I will be back home with my regular routine:)

Ellis - congrats on the 2lbs...that great..Doing that extra 5 min makes you feel so good..

Fishwoman - you are doing a great job on the workouts this month...keep it up..I'm proud of you.

I joined the gym with a friend and went yesterday for the first time...I loved it..I did stair stepper, treadmill and weights...we are going back again today..I can't wait..

dalai_lala 03-09-2006 10:15 AM

Wednesday

I may have actually done too much yesterday, though I'm not feeling it as badly today as I did last night. I stressed my back a little. It wound up being about 3 hours total of exercise...

AM stretches, crunches, 10 lb dumbbells; 2 mile walk on campus with a friend; PM stretches, 30 min on elliptical.

I was so wiped out that I almost didn't do the elliptical, but I knew the walk hadn't really burned enough calories (it was a moderate walk, but not brisk by any means).

We'll see what happens today, I'm cleaning the house before the mother in law arrives! :yikes:

Happy Thursday everyone!
-Lala

PS: OH, yeah! I am down another pound since yesterday as well, so the ticker should say 267....

plb@m 03-09-2006 10:49 AM

I haven't done all my exercise yet today .I still need to do 30mins on the elliptical , but I'll get to it later. I'm having one of them days that I could eat everything and anything. I've been fighting it and drinking alot of water hope it works.

I hope you girls all have a great day!

Less of Lena 03-09-2006 04:09 PM

Was so busy yesterday I didn't have much time to read or update!

PLB, I hear you -- I haven't gotten my rear in gear yet today, either. Hoping... no, PLANNING... to treadmill tonight during American Idol.

Lala, you were just go go go!!!! You're a dynamo, you are! Congrats on the one pound down, too!

Donna, sounds like you had a great time at the gym! Did you get back there today again?

Fishwoman, with all the walking you're doing, I'll bet you've crossed the entire state of Maryland and back again! Good going!

As for me, I had a great day of activity yesterday! Did my usual daily strength and cardio (40 minutes on treadmill), then did an additional 20 minutes on treadmill and a 20 minute walk outdoors. Played 3 sessions of very aggressive (but friendly) ping-pong with my son, totally about 1 hour 15 minutes. Ended up having my highest total ever on steps-for-the-day... 16,686!

I doubt today will come even close to yesterday, but yesterday sure was fun! As I said, I haven't gotten into gear yet -- let's see what tonight brings!

Have a fantastic rest of the day, ladies!

dalai_lala 03-09-2006 06:59 PM

Lena - That's great to have some kind of exercise that's fun, too. I hate every minute of it, so I invent little games in my head to challenge myself. Well, I enjoy the stretching part, it's kind of meditative, but it just breaks my heart to get on that bleep elliptical. :)

And great job everyone on keeping up with the exercise plan. We rock!! :carrot:

So, Day 1 of Housework Frenzy is done. I had boxes and boxes of books and Star Wars memoribilia to move out of my library/guest room so that mum in law could have a place to sleep. (I cleaned out my storage unit at the beginning of the year, and that's where it wound up.) I also did a serious hands and knees scrubbing of the bathroom. I have one of those huge walk in showers that's floor to ceiling tile on three sides and the bottom as well - it was one of the big draws when we bought the house but cleaning it is a huge pain!

So, I'm laying off the weights tonight because my back is again quite sore, but I am going to try the stretching and see if it helps or hurts more.

Happy Thursday!
Lala

dgpebbles 03-09-2006 07:35 PM

Lala-great job on the 1lb...I tried the elliptical yesterady at the gym and I could only manage 3 1/2 mins and my legs were burning so bad...How long did it take you to get to the bluid up to 30 mins?

Plb how is your eating going today? were you able to keep your craving away.

Lena - wow you go girl..thats a lot of walking..You sound like you had a fun day though..I haven't played ping-pong in years.

As for me I've gone to the gym for the last 2 days but I'm going to take today off...My muscles are a little sore and I don't want to wear myself out...Plus I'm really tired...I haven't gotten to bed till after midnight the last few days and I get up at 6am

Have a great night

plb@m 03-09-2006 08:33 PM

Donna, I had alot of water today and did good with the food.
hope you get some good sleep tonight.

dalai_lala 03-09-2006 10:59 PM

Pebbles - I have to force myself to keep going on the elliptical. I started out at about 10 minutes, but I used to walk a couple of times a week before that. Then I added an extra 5 minutes every week. Stretching out and warming up are also very important - I get a lot of leg cramps in just my right leg, so I go for 5 minutes, pause and work out the kink, then go another 5 minutes.

Also, we put a small TV in that room and I play a DVD while I use the elliptical. It keeps my mind off of just watching the numbers roll by and the general discomfort.

-Lala

ellis 03-10-2006 08:32 AM

Hi, girls! Wow... we are just exercising fiends, here!

Donna, I'm so glad you're enjoying the gym! Yes, take a day off, hon. You need to let your body heal.

plb, you must have abs of steel! I'm very impressed. :)

Fishwoman, you're doing so well with the walking! :hat:

Lala, I can't remember... is your MIL coming to live or to visit? Is that stressful for you, or are you okay?
Take care of your back, hon.

Lena, you are going to BREAK that pedometer. :lol3:

I had a 30 minute exercise class last night.
Then my trainer took me aside, and tried to convince me to sign up for a triathalon. I can't swim, though. (yet!) I think I might just do a 5km run for now. My trainer gave me a program to start running. I was feeling pretty gung ho last night, but now that I have to start it this morning, I'm feeling a wee bit lazy.

Less of Lena 03-10-2006 11:09 AM

Good morning, everyone! TGIF!!!!

Wow, Ellis! You are making some fantastic strides, since your trainer thinks you're ready to start working toward a triathalon! That's great!

Donna, Lala, all you folks who do elliptical, my hat's off to you! Back in the days when I was going to the gym, I tried using that confounded thing and it just felt so awkward! Took me nearly 6 months (if memory serves) to get to the point where I could do 30ish minutes (if the person next to me distracted me by talking to me), but even my cheeks felt like they were jiggling about. I just never got past the herky-jerky movement. Never got it smooth.

Lala, sounds like you got quite the workout getting the room ready. Housework Frenzy! I like that term! That shower sounds divine. I've always wanted one like that. Watch your back, though. Don't want to have any injuries.

Plb, glad to hear you had a great food day!

As for me, nothing out of the ordinary. Finally got myself working at about 6:30. Strength, then nearly an hour on the treadmill during AI. I think the right folks went home last night and the right ones stayed. I do wish the performances has more pizazz, though. They keep picking/performing such blah material!

That, and there are far too many commercials! Sheesh! 7 minutes of show followed by 8-9 commercials/promos? When did the show become something to fill in the time between commercials?

Make it a good one today, everyone!

FishWoman 03-10-2006 11:47 AM

Happy Friday everyone! I did my walking again for Wednesday and Thursday. I'm back home for 2 days, and the weather is gorgeous. We are supposed to hit 70 degrees today! Of course, I'm inside at work, but i have a window:D

Ellis - training for a triathalon? That is impressive! I always said that i would do one if I learned how to swim and ride a bike;) . Maybe I should stick to just running!

Lala - housework frenzy burns calories too! I hope all goes well with your MIL.

It sounds as if everyone is having really great workouts this month. Let's keep it up! Have a great weekend:)

Ellis- My 9yrs old joined girls on the run program and will be running a 5k in June. I hope she can do it they are going to train for 10 weeks. I was thinking about doing it with her, but right now I don't think I could and would hate to slow the girls down.
As for the swimming you can do it !!!! WoW ...wish I could even think I could do a triathalon . You'll do great!!!!!
No abs of steel yet only when I dream. LOL
I've had 5 kids(girls) and they had to cut open with the first one ,so it will take a while to get the abs in shape .

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE !!!!!

dgpebbles 03-10-2006 10:49 PM

Well I went to the gym again today and did 5 min on stair stepper, 30 mins on treadmill and I managed to do 10 mins on the elliptical...thats a big improvement from my 3 1/2 mins last time...It felt great...

started off the month with not much exercise at all but now without counting weight lifting time I'm at 220 mins of cardio

Plb - One day I'm going to be as good as you

Fishwoman - great job on the walking

Less of Lena 03-11-2006 01:10 PM

Was dog tired last night and just couldn't bring myself to do any strength training, so I'll have to make that up today. Did 3 laps at the mall yesterday, though. Word of warning: do not mallwalk through the Food Court! That was a temptation I didn't need!. I resisted though -- just kicked up the pace a bit to get out of that area!

Fishwoman, you must have gone through 10 pairs of walking shoes already! Good job!

Great job on that elliptical, Donna! I'm so glad you're enjoying your gym expierence!

Plb, 5 kiddies and you can still do 100 crunches? Ow ow ow! How do you break them up? Spread out over the day? 5 sets of 20 or something? 100 all in one go? Ow ow ow!!! Any way you do it, it's most impressive!!!

Hope everyone is having a Super Saturday so far!

plb@m 03-11-2006 03:52 PM

Lena-Food Court that's too much of a temptation for me ! Good job on getting out of there with out eating anything!!!
As for the abs 4 sets of 25 in about 10mins or so. If I would spread them out I don't think I would end up doing all of them. It hurts ,but after 5 kids it's the only way to get them back in shape.

Donna - I started out doing the elliptical 5 mins 2x a day about 2 months ago and have been working doing a little more every couple of weeks . The first time I did it I couldn't walk right the next day I was in so much pain. LOL It's kind of funny now, but not when I was hurting.

 That's why I'm NOT doing a triathalon! Can't swim. YET!! ;)
Isn't the weather fabulous!? It's going up to 10C (50F) here today, and I am THRILLED! Spring is coming. :) Happy walking!

Plb, FIVE KIDS!! :hat: Wow, you are awesome, girl! That's how many we wanted, but when we it seemed we couldn't have anymore after our daughter, we thought, "Okay, one is good and easy!" We sold/gave away all of our baby stuff, and BANG! Pregnant with number two. I had two c-sections. My stomach is unbelievably ugly. :( Ah, well... I've never been the bikini type.
That's wonderful that your 9 year old is doing a 5k with her friends! Kids just bounce back, don't they? I mean, she'll probably run it with ease, and experience no pain afterwards. Whereas you and I would be grunting to the finish line, and then have to lie around afterwards with ice packs on our shins. :lol3:

Lena, what's AI? :?: DH and I haven't watched tv in about 17 years. What am I missing?!

Donna, great job on the elliptical!! :hat: That's a big jump, hon!

Let's see... what have I done... Oh! I did my first day of training on Friday for the 5k. :D Two minute walk, then one minute run for a total of 22 minutes. So I got in seven minutes of running in total. I know I could have run for longer in one stretch, but I'm going to take it easy. I don't want to hurt myself.
And then yesterday I went to my 30 minute weight/cardio class. :hat:
I am feeling very powerful!!

Keep up the great work, girls!! :cheer:

dgpebbles 03-12-2006 01:43 PM

Well today I managed to do 17 mins on the elliptical..I felt so great...I can't wait till I can do 30 min...

ellis - great job on the walk/run...7 mins is a great startthats 1/3 of the time running..I hear ya on the feeling powerful..I'm right there with you...

dalai_lala 03-12-2006 04:28 PM

Ellis - AI? That wasn't me, I think it was LessOfLena, but I think she means American Idol.

Let's see, I guess I haven't updated for a while... ummm... here it is, the last thing was Housework Frenzy Day 1. Day 2 was all sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. DOH! I forgot to dust BEFORE I vacuumed. Oh well.

The stretching is definitely helping with the back strain though. There was some tenderness but it didn't ever actually go out on me. Yay! 'Cos sweeping and vacuuming are definitely hard on me... But, that was the day that I still hit the elliptical for a while, even after cleaning, then went for the three mile walk with hubby at 10 pm - I think I posted a happy-hoppy kind of NSV thing in the Success Forum about it, because in the "old days" (tee hee) I would have said no to the walk just on general principle (on the principle that I'm generally lazy)!

That means, Saturday... oh, yeah, yesterday! I'm so confuzzled! :dizzy: Yesterday was AM stretches & crunches (I skipped the weights) then PM stretches and the elliptical for a whopping 35 minutes (my longest time yet).

So, I think that's it for me for this week... We're leaving in the morning for Virginia, but I'll be back in touch next weekend. I hope everyone has a great week!

-Lala

ellis 03-13-2006 08:30 AM

Lala, I'm sorry! I'm getting my "Ls" confused!
Wow, you're doing great with the exercise, hon! :hat: (I hear ya re: being lazy. heh heh) I'm glad your back is feeling a bit better.
Have a wonderful time in Virginia with your DH.

Thanks, Donna... :)
Oh, my gosh! You're up to 17 minutes already!! You are AMAZING, girl!! :cheer: Doesn't it feel great?

Okay, I really have to adjust my treadmill today. For real. I've got my run to do, and the belt is slipping. Very unnerving.

I hope everyone has a good workout/rest day today!

FishWoman 03-13-2006 02:44 PM

Well I am still just walking instead of doing intense cardio, but at least I am doing something. I haven't lost anymore weight, but haven't gained either, so I'm sort of okay with where I am right now.

It was so beautiful in DC this weekend. I helped one of my friends apartment-shop on Saturday, and we walked at least an hour (possibly more) around Penn Quarter and Dupont Circle while looking at places. Sunday, my husband and I went for an hour-long walk with the dogs, and then that evening when I got back to Manhattan, I took a very brisk walk up to Union Square and back (15 minutes each way).

Lala - have fun in Virginia! you should be able to catch the tail end of the nice weather.

DG - 17 minutes on the elliptical is great! Before you know it you will be up to 30 minutes.

Ellis, plb, Lena - have a happy day!

Dancing Angel - i know I have said this before, but you are so inspiring with your workouts:) I know they are calling for rain and/or snow in New York this weekend - yuck! I am ready for spring as well. And daylight savings time so it will be light later!

I'm still walking, rather than jogging or elliptical, but Monday night I tried the "Island Girl Hula Workout" dvd and last night I did Baron Baptiste's Vinyasa Yoga dvd. Um, hula? Is complicated! It's low impact, but I was still sweating trying to concentrate on moving my hips and feet in the proper directions:dizzy: I will definitely have to practice that dvd some more.

The month is almost half over and I find it harder and harder to get up and do my exercises , but I do . I need to lose 10 more lbs by Easter and 10 more by Mothers Day then I'll be at my realy goal! I want to feel good this summer and have fun with my girls. Thats why I'm not just doing this for me it's my girls that keep me going.

Less of Lena 03-15-2006 11:02 PM

Evening, everyone! Here we are, Wednesday the 15th! We're halfway through the week and halfway through the month! And we're working our rear ends off. Literally!

DancingAngel, if I had just half your stamina... woohoo!

Look at Donna go on that elliptical! You're doing great!

And whoops, there goes Fishwoman! With all that walking, no grass grows under her feet! Hula sounds like fun, too!

Plm is still working out even when she'd rather just chill (oh, I definitely hear you on that one). THAT'S dedication! That's what it's all about. Way to go!

I got tired out just reading about your Housework Frenzy, Lala! Hope you're enjoying your well earned vacation!

Did you get your treaddy fixed, Ellis? Can you fix it yourself? I hope you can get it back in running order (whoops, I made a pun!) real soon! I'm so proud of you, in training! Yippee!

As for me, I've just faithfully doing my strength and treadding every day. I stepped up my treadding yesterday and today. It's helped me keep my daily steps over 10K. I'm aiming for 10K M-F. Last week I got M-Th (Friday was just short of 9K). I'm hoping for all 5 days this week, and so far I'm on track!

Let's make it a Terrific Thursday everyone!

ellis 03-15-2006 11:23 PM

Very punny, Lena.
Yes, I fixed it, thank you. I was amazed at how easily I was able to adjust it... it only took a couple of minutes.
You know how some things... you just have a feeling they're going to cause you hours of grief? Like computer glitches.
Good going with the training and treading, hon! :hat:

plb@m, it's so hard, but good for you for keeping going! Doing it for your girls is a great reason. :)

Fishwoman, I wish we had a video of you doing the video... if it was anything like some of my efforts, I'm sure it would have been a hoot watching you. :lol3: Good going, girl!!

Dance, you're doing great, as usual!! :hat:

Me... I did my run/walk routine on Monday. 23 minutes.
Tuesday night I went to my 30 minute exercise class.
Today... I went to my sister's to look after her and her baby... they're sick as anything with a cough and cold, so I went over to give her a bit of relief, and did some cleaning and cooking for her. Naturally I kissed my beautiful nephew numerous times, and I am now sick-as-heck myself, and wasn't able to run tonight. Feeling rather dizzy. :dizzy:

dgpebbles 03-16-2006 01:01 AM

well I was doing good eating till tonight..We went out to eat and I did good and had a salad..then my daughter want desert so we shared a brownie /ice cream desert...So of course I had to work it off so we then went to the gym and I did (drum roll) 25 mins on elliptical and 30 mins on treadmill and a little over 1 hour on weights...so I hope I burned the calories away from my treat..

ellis - sorry to hear your feeling sick..It seems everyone just keeps giving it back and forth..

Lena - sounds like your doing great with your steps..keep it up

ellis 03-16-2006 07:53 AM

Thanks, Donna.

25 minutes on the elliptical! And all that other stuff, too! :yikes: My gosh, girl, you are honkin' AMAZING!! You must feel like one strong woman... I'm so happy for you!!

I have an exercise class this evening. Not sure how I'm feeling yet, but I'm hoping to make it.

FishWoman 03-16-2006 10:39 AM

I just did my walking yesterday - oddly enough, I am sore from the hula and yoga;) . I brought my gym bag today, so will try to get to the gym for some cardio as well as my walking.

Ellis - I hope you feel better soon:hug:

Donna - I am sure you burned off your treats and then some - that sounds as if you had a great day at the gym!

Good morning, everyone! It's Saturday! Yay!

Sounds like we had some nice weeks going last week, good for us! Glad to hear you're feling better, Ellis! Donna, it sounds like you've taken to the gym like a FishWoman to walking!

I slacked off on Thursday, no extracurricular exercise at all (boo, hiss). I got home too late and was too tired. I figured exercising while exhausted wouldn't do any good at all, and could possibly lead to injury, due to lack of concentration. Got right back on track yesterday, 30 minutes lifting, 40 on the treaddy. I'll do the same today to make up for having missed Thursday (Saturday is scheduled to be either a day off or a make-up day, if I miss a weekday.)

All part of the big plan!

Hope everyone has a Wonderful Weekend!

TOM is coming soon. So I think I'll do a little more abs before because I hate doing them for the first couple days of TOM.
My ankles have been hurting because I have bone spurs. I'm going to talk to doc about them next week. Right now it's a motrin and deal with it. I'm not going to let it stop me!

DONNA- It's great that you love the gym !!! Have a fun break !!

LENA- I do the samething for Saturday and sometimes Sunday .It's nice to have a back up day.

Have a great weekend girls!!!

That is SO smart!
My SIL is in her mid-50s, and says she loves TOM. I think she must have lost her marbles. :lol3:
I'm sorry about the bone spurs... that's so painful.

Lena, good job getting back at it, girl!! :hat:

Did my 30 minute exercise class today... my abs are just a-killin' me. :D

Happy Monday!

Hi all! Back from vacation and ready to jump on the elliptical again! I did pretty well, despite feeling a bit lazy there. I did my morning stretches and crunches most mornings, well, I missed 2 out of 5 days I think. But we walked down to the river every afternoon. I didn't ask how far that hike is, but it "felt" like at least a mile, and it's not the flat terrain of Florida that I'm used to. :stress:

Friday, the day we drove back, I did... absolutely nothing... not even the morning stretch. Saturday I at least did the morning stretch, but we ran errands the whole rest of the day. Yesterday wasn't bad. I was still too lazy to do the morning stretch, but we worked out in the yard most of the morning, digging up parts of the sprinkler system to find leaks and dig up broken heads.

Today I should be back on my normal schedule though. I hope. No, I will! I have to, I can't backslide now! Right?

Oh my gosh - I walked all over this weekend - 3 hours each day:faint: I had to bundle up in my scarf and gloves, but as long as I stayed on the sunny side of the street it wasn't too bad.
Saturday I walked down and around into SoHo and back - I walked along Canal Street for a little bit, laughing at all the tourists buying knock-offs (not that I'm not a tourist while I'm here, but I'm not thinking I'm really getting a Prada bag for $50), but that area was so crowded I couldn't stand it.
Sunday, after I did a yoga dvd, I walked up Park Avenue and looked at all the expensive shops on 57th Street and up Madison Ave, then walked back down Lexington Ave. I did a lot of wistful gazing into windows, wishing I could afford to buy couture (wishing I could even spell couture!) I really, really want a Chanel suit. I did buy a small dooney & bourke purse - I haven't told DH yet, but he should be lucky I didn't actually go into the Coach store. I would have spent a lot more in there!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I am going to try to take it easy today and let my ankles recuperate from all the walking!
