I'm am going to attempt to do what I said I would at the beginning of this trek and pick a starting place and add some fun stuff to the thread to keep us going.
I'm putting together a little information about our starting point. Tagus Cove, Isla Isabela, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. Here is our intro and I'll try to hit key points along the way with picture if possible!!
Tagus Cove is situated directly east of Fernandina on the west coast of Isla Isabela.
It is a beautifully well protected cove sheltered by the shoulders of two volcanic craters and has been used as an anchorage for over 300 years. As we pull quietly into the cove we see a pair of Flightless Cormorants huddled together near the landing site on a nest, and a Galapagos Hawk perched in a Palo Santo tree halfway up the crater rim. From our boat we also observe a few penguins floating along the shore and diving below the surface for food.
We begin the hike up the dusty trail through the Palo Santo forest towards a viewpoint for Darwin Volcano. As we climb we are able to get a good look at the saltwater lagoon in one of the nearby craters, and a view back down to our boat in the cove.
The viewpoint at the end of the trail is worth the climb, and we are there just as the light begins to turn orange before sunset. We still have time to sit and enjoy the view before we continue our trek.
Tonight we will have good anchorage and stay put until early morning. Then we head east...
