Hey, ladies! Long time, no post. I haven't been home in a LONG time. First, a business trip to what I thought was Buffalo, but we actually ended up in Canada. I was there Tuesday-Thursday. Then, I made a trip home to Kansas Friday-Sunday. Busy, but fun!

The trip to Niagra Falls was great! I had a hotel room overlooking the falls, so every night I feel asleep to the sound of a waterfall. It was so beautiful and so peaceful. My eating wasn't too terrible. I tried to stay OP, and I did, except for a few hundred glasses of wine (OK. So, it probably wasn't a hundred, but it felt like it.) and small desserts two nights. We toured a winery and did a wine tasting. I really didn't know anything about wine before that. It was so fun! And, the bad news is that my favorite wine is an icewine, which is terribly sweet, and I'm sure it's the worst for me.

Oh, we also did the Niagra Falls tours, and I got wet and got lots of pictures. Overall, for a business trip, it was definitely the best ever!

My trip to Kansas was great. My dad and I hit a Royals game on Friday night, and then I helped him pick out things for his new house the rest of the weekend. He actually has really good taste, but he has some trouble matching colors. We also worked on landscaping with my brother.

So, I'm back home now for the first time in a week. My apartment is a disaster. Work is piled up. But, it was definitely worth it!

I hope all of you are doing well. I'm joining the group of staying OP for two WHOLE weeks. It sounds tough, but I've got to do it! My weigh-in tonight could be scary!

Take care,
Jina

Hello.

I am new here, in posting actually. I have been reading your insightful messages for couple of weeks now and I thought I should come out of lurkerdom and introduce myself.

My name is Rachel, I am 33 years old and I am from Boston.

I started Atkins five weeks ago and have lost 11.4 pounds so far. I like to go down to 121. That was my weight up to four and half years ago.

I don’t particularly like to cook, but since starting Atkins I have been cooking everything! LOL! I used to love to bake, so now I am trying to push all my interest in baking to cooking. It has worked so far.

For instance, yesterday, I made Spaghetti Squash Alfredo, got the recipe from the Food network site. Very good and tasty. Also made their Ricotta Cheesecake last week and have been eating one for breakfast everyday.

Anyhow, just wanted to say hi.

Well, I figured I needed to tell this story as my "motivation for the day" story....

So, Im at lunch and I go to Michaels ( art store) to pick up some of those little flowered tie things you use to tie up your wedding favors in those little mesh circles ( we're giving these beautiful polished shells since were getting married at the beach)

Now the wedding section is always bad for me because there are the big economy size bags of the candy I love: jordan almonds, butter mints etc....

so, I'm walking to the check out and my mind is saying 'go ahead, just one bag...you can save them and eat a few at a time "(as if) and I turn my head as I get in line and in front of me is this woman....she was probably in her mid to late 40's and she was....(delicately put) NOT pretty....Im not trying to be catty....Im sure she was a great person and she had a cool smile, but I really need to emphasis the word NOT in not pretty.....
BUT

She had THEE most perfect body, I have personally ever seen....Tiny little shorts, tan, perfectly proportioned, beautiful flawless skin, she even had pretty FEET! Im straight and I swear I could not take my eyes off her-

Talk about bringing a binge to a SCREECHING halt!

lol! I am OP!

You always hear about overeating as a control thing. Where it's ONE area in life people can control. Well, I think it's controlling ME. I've never been able to control anything. Drinking, smoking, or eating. I gave up drinking (for the most part) when I got so drunk I could hear what people were saying but couldn't move or answer (they thought I had passed out). I gave up smoking when I kept waking up barely breathing..but went and lit up again (one of the 3 packs per day I was smoking) anyway. So now I'm down to my last vice. Food. I'm not sure how to control it. In the past couple days revelations have been flying into my head every now and then. I realised I sabotage myself because I'm comfortable being the weight I am. It was always easier saying "I was born to be fat for life." than to do something about it. And now that I've lost weight....it's like I'm the best I figure I'll ever be so why bother going further?? Confusion MAJOR!!!

Rachel - Welcome!!!

Marie - What more incentive could you have and pretty feet, that's unheard of! Sorry, I just find feet disgusting. Yuck! Maybe it's 'cause I don't have even half way pretty feet, okay, so I'm jealous.

Jane - Try the spagetti squash. I hate squash and finally tried it last Friday. I now have a collection of recipes using it. It's wonderful! Doesn't taste like squash and the texture is great. I'm the same way as far as being picky. I don't eat pork or fish because of allergies and there are a lot of things I should eat but I just can't stomach. it's harder when you're a picky eater like I am.

Brenda - Don't be so hard on yourself. Your allowe a screw up evey now and then. We all do it.

JD - I'm glad you had a wonderful trip.

Star - Always the inspiration.

Morti - was it my food or my excessive drinking that inspired you?

Star - There is ABSOLUTELY no way in I could EVER keep up with you! Pre-child, maayybee, now, nope.

I wasn't feeling so great this weekend, but I DID stop in. I think it was too early though. There was hardly anyone there, and you definitely weren't (I don't think anyway). If you look anything like your pic, you weren't there. I think it was around 9pm. We were going to watch the rest of the Lakers game there, but then my BF spotted someone he knew from work and HAD to leave. I know, I know. The antisocial in him I guess. Oh well, another time. Sounds like you had a blast though! What time do you usually get there? Karaoke (sp?) wasn't even started when we were there!

We ended the night watching the Lakers game from bed, eating a piece of Moonstruck chocolate cake. Not too exciting, but still good.

Glad you had a good weekend!

LadyA - Speaking of motivation, I kinda know how you feel. This weekend I went shopping and bought two skirts in size 12. Anyway, after that, I had this feeling like, oh jeez, I look gooood, I can slow down. I don't have to be so serious about this. After all, I'm in a 12! Then common sense tried to kick in. If I do that, I won't BE A SIZE 12! It's a constant head battle sometimes. Maybe we can all help each other through these issues. It's like retraining your thoughts while retraining your body. Sadly, I think it will always be something I'll have to work at, as though there's no actual end to the road. Once the weight is off, the road will fork to a new road, where maintenance will begin. Never ending, so we'd better just find a way to reframe it so we can be a part of that small, successful percentage that keeps it off FOREVER. Just my 2 cents.

Rachel - WELCOME
