Calorie Counters KISS...May 2006
Guess I'll start the new thread. Deficit of 506 yesterday and feeling much better. Have reconciled myself to very clean eating for the next few days because even bad foods within my calories are making me feel not good about myself. Definitely got in my fruits and veggies yesterday, just need to get in my cardio today. Hopefully weather and work will cooperate and I will get off to a walk at lunch time. How is everyone on this first day of May?
|
Today is my first official calorie counting day. I have a new notebook and I've got Fitday set up and ready to go. My first goal is keep track of the calories and stay below 1600. Second goal is to get the right kind of foods. I spent the weekend working on menus and a grocery list. Wish me luck!
|
Happy May Day everybody!
Welcome Kathy! It is awesome here! Tons of support! Miles: Hope the you are feeling better and congrats on the deficit! I did not eat very good this weekend but when I weighed in today I had lost another pound! Yeah! I will have a deficit today(positive thinking here):D ...have a great day ......Blyn |
Thanks for the May thread Miles!
I love making grocery lists, Kathy. And positive thinking is where it's at Blyn. Good afternoon everyone. So far I'm doing alright today. I got a bit irritated at work and scarfed a few cookies but fitday says the damage wasn't too bad. I'll see how it winds up by the time I'm done some more running around, making supper, exercising and crashing! I got up waaaay too early this morning and am waiting to hit that proverbial wall. |
Hi there! After a very bad month and a minor weight gain I am back to the calorie-counting fold. My plan is to keep my calories at 1500 or less daily, have at least 30 minutes exercise daily, and try to stay away from alcohol for at least a month.
I know counting calories works, I just forget sometimes:o |
Should have crashed earlier. X me off the deficit list for Monday. Ouch!
|
hey Y'all- I've been sooo busy I haven't had time to check in. Over the weekend on Sat, I didn't do so hot and had some pizza hut. It wasn't too bad, and I think I needed a little cheat day to keep going. I'm back to it today though :)
|
Oh say! Fishwoman, hi there! Seems to me I've met up with you before. Welcome to our little thread. Daily accountability (ouch again).
|
yesterday's deficit was 549..good day of eating but no exercise...I'm running late for work ...cha at you all later
|
Ok...April was definatly a bust for me....my day off became a week..a week became 2...and sooner than I knew it..the moneth flew by and 3 lbs came back on! LOL Well..I refuse to update my ticker for the gain...too depressing. Anyways, May is a new month and I will be back posting more because i need the accountability and support. I saw what happened when I got away from that for awhile.
On a bright note...yesterday's deficit was just a little over 700. Thanks to push mowing my front lawn and hauling my two kids in the double stroller around the mall for a few hours!!! Today, I hope to have almost a 1000 cal deficit and 30 mins or more of exercise! fishwoman--I'm right there with ya...I went off for a bit too and had a minor gain, but it's a new and fresh month! And hey...we still weigh less than we did to start with right? I am choosing to focus on my successes to far, not my small failure. |
Mornin ladies,
I know how it feels to slip up, I feel like I've been doing that a lot lately. Doing better last couple days though, deficit of 683. Dunno if I can keep those deficits lasting but hopefully I can keep the clean eating going. Everyone take care! |
Good morning!
I am not really sure how to calculate a deficit, but I ate 1184 calories yesterday and did 47 minutes of vinyasa yoga. I calculated somewhere that my bmr is about 1380, so I think I had a deficit for yesterday:dizzy: SusanB - I have definitely met you before in some other threads. The daily accountability is very helpful. Let's keep at it! Angielynne - I try to focus on the successes rather than the setbacks, but sometimes it is hard for me. You are right about the fact that we still weigh less than we started, and that is a great thing! |
Hi, I'd like to join this thread if I could. I'm only on "Day Two" of the rest of my life... so it would be easy to slip up at this point. Daily accountability could only help.
My goals are to stay between 1000-1500 calories and put in 30 minutes of exercise every day. ~1200 calories yesterday and 30 minutes biking. |
Hi Tyler - Day 2 for me too.
Yesterday was a deficit of 800 calories and I didn't exercise due to a whopper headache. I do plan to get in a few miles on the treadmill tonght. The FitDay is wonderful. As I said in my intro post, my first goal is to eat less than 1600 cal per day and then try to get the right portions. Yesterday was not a good protein day for me and I know that is an area to work on. Today my percentages are a little better so with some planning, I should be able to make some wise choices. Good luck all! |
hi all ...would like to join this thread as well...so far i have been counting calories for 2 weeks and lost a total of 6 lbs..hopefully i can keep it up and get back down to what i used to be before pregnancy..lol.
|
Hi Everyone...decided to join the thread to help with the accountablity thing...yesterday was good, this is only my third day counting and stayed on target yesterday, and so far on target today w/ the calories. I have 700 more to go and only dinner left. And I have done yoga both days for after a week off being sick.
I need a ticker.... |
Hi everyone!
I managed to find my way over to the new thread. I had a good day OP! Tuesday: 1137 calories, 1551 deficit, 45 minutes cardio, 20 minutes weights |
Lot's of new counters! That's great!
I blew out today. How many calories are in 12 pieces of melba toast, 18 arrowroot cookies, scotch ... well you get the picture. I'll put it in fitday tomorrow and take responsibilty for the ugly truth. But I realy am glad to see everyone here! |
Hey y'all, Susan- I'm with you. I totally blew it yesterday. I was craving chocolate, and I had to give 3 of my kitties up to a (no-kill) rescue group because we are moving- I was sad, and I caved in and had a kit kat AND an almond joy AND cereal.... Oh well. I'm back today, gotta jump back on board!!!
|
I managed to make it through Day 2: ~1355 calories and 30 minute walk.
On to Day 3. I'm glad to see a bunch of newbies like me posting! :) |

ckatgo-welcome ....the first week is the hardest and then it gets easier exspecially after your start learning more about foods..
yesterdays deficit was only 361..no exercise for me yesterday...I'm getting my measurements done again today at the gym...I wonder how many inches I've lost in 4 weeks..I don't know if he's doing my body fat % too..I hope he does...I will let you all know how it goes. |
FishWoman - sounds like you are on track. The best way to figure out your deficits is by doing reverse math after losing weight, then it's bound to be the most accurate.
:welcome2: Tyler Durden, glad to have you with us, love the daily accountability Kathy - I struggle a little with protein as well, but I think it's nice to have something to work on that isn't scale related. :welcome2: reaganjn - Congratulations on your loss so far and hope you do well here :welcome2: ckatgo - good job on staying on plan so far, I think that is the advantage of coming here and posting here, we all just take it a day at a time Valerie - wow! What a deficit! You are definitely getting your exercise in, wish I could say the same Susan - you'd think we'd remember before we eat the stuff how painful it is to log it into fitday, but somehow it doesn't pan out that way judes - so sorry about your kitties, I think I would have been pretty depressed and gone on a minor binge as well. I am sure you will do better as you move on and feel better Donna - be sure to let us know on the inches, you must be very excited :D I am sure in 4 weeks you will see improvement! Deficit of 420 for me yesterday. Haven't done any cardio in TOO long but last night's weigh-in was refreshingly low-ish so hopefully paying particular attention to WHAT I am eating, and not just the calories for a few days, is helping. Need to get back to at least doing weights real soon, so hopefully I will get to that tonight. |
Hey - hi to all the new peeps!!
April was a good month for me - lost 8.6 lbs - target was 7.5 so I'm happy there! Had a deficit yesterday of 1038! Yay me. Also got a comment today that I was "thin as a whippet" - yeah right LOL! But it was nice to hear. |
Well I'm back from the gym and I'm HAPPY to say that I've dropped my body fat % by 5 points...I went from 39.5 to 34.3..in just 4 weeks....I've lost 2 inchs from my chest, 2 from my waist, 1/2 from my hips and 1 from my thigh..now thats really got me pumped to keep going..
robsia-congrats on your loss for april.. |
Yesterday I ate 1363 calories and spent 30 minutes on the elliptical.
I missed breakfast today because i woke up late and had to hurry to a hearing on the hill, so I made a bad lunch choice (not that the sandwich was bad, but eating the entire bag of chips was:o ). So I definitely have to eat something healthy tonight for dinner. I hope everyone is doing well today! |
Day 3 for me and I'm really proud of myself for staying on course. I brought a salad for lunch to keep things safe and then I was invited out to lunch....but I still ordered a salad with grilled chicken when I wanted a club sandwich with fries!! The FitDay is a tremendous help. I am getting an idea of carb/protein/fat ratios and its helping me to discover what I need to be eating. My goal is to lose 3 pounds by the end of May which means a deficit of 364 calories per day and I think that I can do that. It's gonna be my goal. Good luck everyone.
|
Oh you all are doing so good! I got called back to work this morning (short night) and got no planning done. I'm so so so very tired but you all have done my heart good!
I just so appreciate that you all posted today. You've made me feel so much better! I might get some weightlifting in tonight yet. |
Donna great job on dropping your body fat!!
I had a good day today Wednesday: 1555 calories, 1158 deficit, 45 minutes curves |
Hey everyone! forgot to post yesterday..LOL...work...life..you know the drill. So far ok, Yesterday was a high calorie day for me, as planned, but I didn't count the calories in dinner!!! so who know how much I ate, today I am paying for it because I feel like crap! So, its morning now and just start today I guess. Let you all know.
everyone here is doing so good! |

^^^ I agree, very inspiring!
A successful Day 3 for me with ~1200 calories and 30 minute walk. |
Wow...I missed a day and look at all the chattin'! Welcome to the newbies...everyone here is awesome. I have learned so much...
Well I have not been going off of my plan ...but I have been horrible at writing it down and logging it in the computer. I usually eat the same types of food and have not gained any weight...but I do not want to fall off the proverbial . ..WAGON. So I will get back to writing it down!.. Did anyone happen to see the Oprah show on Monday! Dr Oz was on and wow that was really informative..I wish that I would have taped it! I forgot! Have a great day everyone!...hope it's a deficit kind of day!....Blyn:) |
BlynC - I saw Oprah on Monday. I went home from work early due to a headache. My plan was to rest and hope to sleep it off. Of course, I turned on the tv and saw the preview for Oprah. Needless to say, no nap for me. Monday was my first official day of calorie counting and the timing of that show could not have been any better for me. It was amazing how they went thru that woman's kitchen and got rid of the unhealthy foods. Anyway, I was very motivated and it has helped keep me on track this week.
I've done great this week, but the weekend is coming. I hope that I can keep on track with the eating and get some exercise in as well. Knowing that I HAVE to check in with you ladies on Monday will be my motivator. |
Kathy ..I know what you mean the weekends are harder for me too! We have a weekly card game with another couple on Saturday nights..I always eat light during the day and then not worry about what I eat that night. I try to remember that one meal or one night is not what made me fat!....good luck this weekend!... Blyn

Robsia - way to go on this month's loss, that's totally awesome! NICE deficit too!
Donna - wow, 5%, that is amazing. And all those inches, you must be so proud! Fishwoman - nice calories and exercise, don't sweat the chips (or at least only sweat them off ) I am sure it will get easier Tresor - I think 364 calories a day is doable, as long as you don't rely on those 3 lbs showing up exactly on time, I've noticed weight loss can be a week or two behind sometimes, even when the deficits add up. I love all the ratios in fitday as well, gives you other things to focus on than calories and the scale Susan - least you are hanging in there through all this, hope you got in the weight lifting, I know it was on my to-do and I completely forgot about it, but there's always tonight Valerie - nice deficit, you are so good at getting in that exercise! ckatgo - I guess that's why I don't have too many planned 'free' days. I do count everything, no matter how miserable it is, and it usually makes me feel pretty bad afterwards too TylerDurden - wtg on three days in a row! BlynC - I know what you mean about getting off like that, sometimes I will neglect it for a few days and when I log it it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be, hope yours is the same Deficit of a mere 226 for me yesterday, but at least it was a deficit. I should have worked out, but my calories, food and protein were all good so going to take it as a good day overall. Had a work lunch yesterday and I was very good and had soup and salad. I know soup and salad restaurant style tends not to be as low cal as if I had made it myself, but it was a good choice I think and a lunch I really had to attend. Have eaten mostly "natural" and "clean" foods now for 3 days and am feeling much better for it, just need to get in the exercise to make it perfect! |
I can't seem to get on track..I seem to go off calories by at least 1-200 calories a day!!! Its crazy!!
I calorie zig zag..and man that may not work for me, because I want to stay off plan after the higher calorie days! I am going to give it a bit more then I may have to pick an amount of calories and just stay there... YIKES...However this is only the first week for me....I need to be gentler on myself here... |
I'm going to bed while the going is good. I have an 886 cal deficit for today! One good day in. For a change ;)
|
Thanks Ladies..Yes I feel very proud..I cant stop telling people...Anyway I've gone out to eat the last 2 nights and it's too hard to but in fitday..I don't think I did that bad but I don't think I have a deficit either but tomorrow I will be back on track...I've been trying to finish up things for my daughters prom and graduation...boy is it alot of work...
Miles- glad to hear your on track with the eating now just get moving... Wow everyone is doing such a great job...I love coming on this thread |
Yesterday was another on-plan day for me, Day Four: ~1200 calories and 30 minutes on the exercycle.
So now we approach the weekend, which is always harder for me. I have two meals out on my schedule, both Mother's Day celebrations (1 for my mom and 1 for my mom-in-law). I have already looked at the menus online and pre-planned my meals and even logged them in my journal so hopefully I'll stay on track. I have my first weigh-in on Monday morning and I don't want a messy weekend to screw up all the effort I have put in so far! :) Ckatgo: It sounds to me like you are doing fine, and maybeyou should relax on yourself a bit. 1-200 calories doesn't seem like wildly out-of-control, and as you said it's only been one week trying the zig-zag. Hopefully it will work out for you. Blues4miles: way to go on the clean eating! I need to do more of that myself. I particularly need more veggies! Tresor: like you I worry a bit about the weekends! But we can do it, right? I wish I had seen the Oprah show ya'll are talking about, I'm sure it would have been motivating to watch! |
