Hi fellow calorie counters,
I have been lurking here for quite some time and finally decided to come out of hidding. For the past two months i have been counting calories after a life time of trying every diet out there at least 100 times and failing everytime. I celebrated my 33rd birthday in April and i found myself exhausted of the diets and got to the point where i could not even follow a "diet" for one day and these are diets that i use to stick to for months.
I saw a couple of posts here regarding nutridiary and decided to give it a try. I have been logging in everything i eat and my exercises and so far i have lost 10lbs but the big thing for me is that i feel like this is something i can do forever. Nothing is restricted but i do try and make healthy choices everyday. My big problem is not really the type of food i eat but my portions..........i just eat way to much.
Anyways i intend to posts here more often and thanks for sharing your stories with me.:thanks:

Hi Vanessa and welcome. You sound like you're off to an excellent start! We're glad you're here.

blues4miles 05-23-2006 12:42 PM

Valerie - sounds like you've still got some pretty impressive deficits considering all the extra work you're doing.

Susan - 800, very nice!

Jules - way to go on the pound loss, that is great! Even if you haven't gained/lost still means you are doing a good job of maintaining

Lena - 600 ain't bad. How is the cycling going? Your body handling it okay?

:welcome2: Vanessa, congrats on the loss so far! I struggle with the portion sizes too. And sweets. And sometimes salty foods. Okay, maybe just about everything  But it's a learning process!

Deficit of about 275 for me yesterday. Not very good at all but I ate a healthy dinner (let's not talk about breakfast :o) and FINALLY got back to my WATP :running: so I feel good about that. Going to check out the fitness/cardio thingy in my appartment complex tonight, take my ipod over and see if it's not too packed. We can see it from our bedroom window so I could actually plan ahead to see if anyone's there. Anyways, it is a start. After several weeks (not sure how many) of not doing WATP I did one of the easier for me 30 minutes and BOY did I feel it. Not doing it for a couple weeks certainly got me out of shape fast. The good thing is, I know it will be a good workout for me for a few weeks to come. Got to think up some good exercise goals so I can stick with it better. Take care ladies!

dgpebbles 05-23-2006 06:56 PM

deficit for me yesterday was 719...still not back into the exercise much but I did do a few crunches and some hand weights at home..

jules1216 05-23-2006 07:43 PM

Everyone is so helpful--I just want to say thanks--next ?--how many calories daily/weekly??

Valerie Joy 05-23-2006 11:10 PM

Hi Vanessa! Welcome to the group.

This board is hopping! After all the fad diets people are finally realizing it comes down to the calories.

Well I've had my 3rd straight week w/o a loss. I'm figuring I have a whoosh coming!

I had an ok day calorie wise. I did eat at couple of white castles at my dogs birthday party.

Tuesday: 1619 calories, 1017 deficit, 35 minutes cardio, 20 minutes weights

srmb60 05-23-2006 11:46 PM

If I go to bed right away, I'll have had another good day ... around 750 cals deficit!

Vanessa? Are you sure you want to hang around here? A dog's birthday???? Just kidding.

Oops got my posters mixed up ... Jules? How did you lose the 15 lbs? and how long did it take?

srmb60 05-24-2006 09:48 AM

Ilene is being brilliant again. See it here .... http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85213

dgpebbles 05-24-2006 10:20 AM

well no exercise again for me....now I just can't get motivated again...deficit yesterday was 934...had a low calorie day of 856..just wasn't hungry....anyway my trainer called last night and said he ws back to work so I'm still on for today..hopefully he will give me my meal plan today..

Valerie - I agree that calorie counting is the only way to go and It's so easy..

tresor 05-24-2006 10:27 AM

I have been slack in the journaling dept. of counting calories and the results is that the scale hasn't budged. Writing it down keeps me out of the box of wheat thins crackers and the other little extras that add up and destroy my deficit calories. so....back to writing it down!!

Welcome Vanessa - calorie counting does work and it also makes you think about what you eat. When I go for a snack, I try to eat something that will tide me over and not cause a binge.

Valerie Joy - I hang out a lot at mostlylabs.com and doggy birthday parties are just as popular as kids parties over there. Complete with cakes, hats, pictures and lots of doggy friends.

Susan - I just started posting over at the Featherweights and I recognized you as being a calorie counter as well.

Gotta go and get my journal updated. Bye!

srmb60 05-24-2006 10:40 AM

Hi Kathy! Yup, I've seen you around too! You are so right about the little things and how they add up! Sooo right!

blues4miles 05-24-2006 11:23 AM

Donna - any activity is good activity, so you were still ahead of me Monday, and an excellent deficit despite no exercise on Tuesday. Consider it a rest day and move on!

Valerie - you betcha on fad diets, I'm sure all your lbs will come off after a bad day or something silly like that, I know mine are afraid to come off unless they have 1 or 2 to go with them

Susan - wow, nice deficit! And isn't Ilene always brilliant? Thanks for posting the link.

Kathy - I have to write everything down always or I'll go back to "old ways." Even then, I still have bad times, but writing it down gives me that important feeling of control.

Deficit of 279 yesterday. Not the best. Could have been better I am sure but somehow even with no cable and no internet at home (yet) I am managing to slack off  I ate a little better yesterday though (okay finished off the last piece of pie, but it's in my fitday :o ) and am going to make a trip to Vons today to check out their soups. I know if I was less lazy I could just make my own better tasting, fewer calorie and cheaper soups, but I am just in a soup mood and it's not going to get eaten if I don't buy it at this moment in time. Our kitchen in our new place is still really painfully bare of a lot of good food, so might add some brown rice, beans, and veggies to my shopping list today. We'll see, today is a new day!

I lost the first five by changing nothing but joining Slim-n-Tone(Curves-like Gym)--New Year's Resolution was to give up regular coke and switch to water and that gave me a ten pound loss in January--I am trying to make better food choices and keep up with the water and exercise--until beginning the calorie counting thing I didn't loss anymore which is why I am excited about the one pound.

jules1216 05-24-2006 01:24 PM

Hi to everyone else--quickie again today--too busy here at work to stay long!!

srmb60 05-24-2006 07:50 PM

Jules ... How many calories are you taking in now? to acheive the 1 pound (which is nothing to sniff at!) a loss is a loss!

I win a boobie prize today. Have I mentoned that I'm not good with math? I fiddididdled and flirted around with my can of mackerel the other day, metric to imperial ya know? I'm not sure how I came to what conclusion I did but ... it's only a half pound of fish! I had to go back and tweak fitday. Eight ounces divided into four little baggies is 2 ounces each, right? DOH!
The moral to my story is .. watch your math gals! I had a marginally bigger deficit four of the last six days than I thought I did ;)

Valerie Joy 05-24-2006 08:05 PM

Hi Everyone,

I was a bit high on the calories again today. I'm still adjusting to waking up early and spending the day at work. It's just I'm spending more hours awake and eating more. I'm not sure what I need to fix here.

Wednesday: 1872 calories, 855 deficit, 45 minutes

Vanessas 05-25-2006 06:36 AM

Hi Girls,:flow1:

From since monday i've been having a deficit of over 1000 but yesterday i ate much more than i should have and my deficit 300. The good thing is that i have been to the gym for the past three days and from what i understand its not a bad idea to vary your calorie intake.
Hope everybody has a great day!!!!!!!!!:)

srmb60 05-25-2006 08:13 AM

I about broke even yesterday. Was just plain hungry!
But I agree with Vanessa, that doesn't hurt once in a while.

blues4miles 05-25-2006 10:44 AM

Deficit of 381 for me yesterday. Doing a little better, but still not enough exercise. Supposed to get net at home tonight, hoping it all happens on time like it should. Life is going to be a little crazy these next couple weeks (esp. at work) but I am sure that will lead to better eating, I usually eat well when I am too busy to binge or snack :D

srmb60 05-26-2006 10:32 AM

I was not good yesterday. Upon reflection, I guess I was more stressed than I thought. Weddings can be a financial toll on family finances!
I did however get my 3FC book and I started reading another book called Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle. So there are lots of thoughts and ideas floating around in my head ... as long as I don't nibble trail mix while I'm readin' and thinkin'.

dgpebbles 05-26-2006 11:57 AM

I had a very low calorie day yesterday wit a deficit of 1055 with no exercise...my trainer worked me out hard on the legs wed and I was so sore yesterday and today....I got my meal plan finally yesterday...it seems really easy to follow but I'm waiting till sunday to start it cause of graduation today and a party tomorrow with lots of family around..

Michelle 05-26-2006 01:05 PM

I'm happy to say I'm back on track with doing my WATP, and did my weekly weigh in and I'm down 3 pounds for the week.:^: :D

srmb60 05-27-2006 07:34 AM

Yesterday, there was too much going on and too many people here for me to do much of anything right. I didn't get at any exercise at all .... however, I have a deficit of over 300 cals and my percentages aren't too bad either.

I'm going to do a total assessment thing today weight, measurements ....

Good work on the 3 pounds Michelle!
Donna, make sure you let us know how the new food's going.

dgpebbles 05-28-2006 09:19 AM

I haven't started the new food yet...Knew it would be to hard to stick to till after graduation stuff is over...I'm going to start it today or tomorrow...

yesterday I had a deficit of 911..i worked in the yard for 2 hours and then went to a party where I didn't eat too good but still only had 1414 in calories for the day...

Susan -good luck today with your assessments..you are so close to your goal

Michelle -congrats on the 3lbs...thats awesome...keep up the good work

Michelle 05-28-2006 10:10 AM

Thank you SUSAN and DONNA for your kind compliments on my weight loss! I was very happy to FINALLY start losing something again!

srmb60 05-29-2006 05:27 AM

My compuer is acting up!!! But I wanted to pop in and tell you I'm still on Earth.

It's the beginning of a new week! Be good everyone :)

dgpebbles 05-29-2006 08:22 AM

Ok everything crazy is now over nad I should be able to get back to normal again...weigh-in today only down .6lbs I'm ready to start hitting the gym again and stay on track eating..

Rebeca 05-29-2006 01:09 PM

Good Afternoon ladies-

I decide to join this thread even though I am currently on LAWL! I hope you ladies dont mind! I am trying to eat between 1200 and 1500 cal a day and I will keep you posted on the deficit!

Today deficit of 1621!

Valerie Joy 05-29-2006 10:58 PM

Hi Everyone!

I'm back, I was away for a festival for 4 days. I actually had 3 days of eatting off plan. I didn't even journal. It was just too difficult being out at a show and going out to eat all meals.

I didn't get any exercise but I did a lot of dancing! I must have sweated off 10 pounds. It was so HOT outside. I really hope I didn't gain any weight from this vacation! I'd like to think I can take a few days off for special occasions w/o messing up my losses.

Monday: 1301 calories, 1050 deficit

jules1216 05-30-2006 02:03 PM

My beautiful almost 19 year old daughter had her divorce hearing on Thursday--the ex even brought his new live in girlfriend with him--it has been very stressfull and I found that though I no longer stress graze on everything in sight, I now just don't eat. I had some less than 1000 calorie days and between the stress, TOM and the low cal days I ended up gaining two pounds and being "weepy" all weekend. I am beginning to believe that eating too few calories is as bad as overeating....

Rebeca 05-30-2006 02:15 PM

Pls HELP: Here is what the past week looks like calories wise, but for some reason the scale wont go down! Does anyone have any explanation to this?

Monday deficit 1130
Tues deficit 1398
Wed Deficit 1469
Thurs deficit 1442
Fri deficit 1134
monday deficit 1316

Valerie Joy 05-30-2006 11:21 PM

Rebeca your deficits look good. I would just give it some time. If you keep having deficit you will loose eventually!

I had a better day today. I had a real shock when the scale said 202 this morning. I know I didn't gain 7 pounds over the weekend. Thats just not possible right??

Anyway I'm back on plan!

Tuesday: 1047 calories, 1589 deficit, 35 minutes cardio, 20 minutes weights

srmb60 05-31-2006 08:27 AM

Morning everyone! And welcome to Rebeca!

Rebeca? How did you lose the first 10 lbs?

Rebeca 05-31-2006 10:47 AM

Good Morning-

Valerie- Thanks for the encouragement! Sometimes we are so focused on the number of the scale that we dont give our bodies enough time!

SusanB- I lost the first 10 on LAWL, which I am still kind of doing it!

I got 90 min of exercise since yesterday! 20 min threadmill 10streching (includes 50 crunches) with yoga ball and 60 aerobics this morning!

100 to go for my 620 min for May
270 abs to go! for mays goal!

Deficit:
Monday 1316
Tuesday 1420

Have a good day girls!

dgpebbles 05-31-2006 12:01 PM

Rebeca-It could be possible that your not eating enough...How many calories are you eating per day? If your working out alot and not eating enough your body will hold on to waht you are eating...that happened to me before...

deficit yesterday was 705 and monday was 802..

Rebeca 05-31-2006 12:14 PM

dgpebbles- I eat between 1200 and 1500 cal a day! I burn a lot of calories during my daily activity, around 2500 without counting the workouts!

dgpebbles 05-31-2006 12:21 PM

that sounds about right...I'm eating about the same as you...try uping your protien..that also has worked for me..or try zig-zag your calories...eat a few days at around 1500 and a few at 1000...I've also tried it...they both have worked for me...also sometimes you could be losing inches but not weight....also could be gaining muscle...just hang in there and it will all come off

blues4miles 05-31-2006 04:48 PM

Super busy all weekend and through today so haven't had a chance to post. Ate pretty well Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, but no exercise so maye 100-300 deficits, and about broke even on Friday and then again yesterday. Might have gained weight but also getting pretty sick so not going to worry about the scale (just eating) for a few more days until I feel better. Will probably be either workign or sleeping but I'll try to post when I get back into the swing of things again.

srmb60 05-31-2006 05:11 PM

Hi Miles! Donna!

Rebeca? I was gonna have a look at your fitday but I didn't get a link. What do you do on the ball? Weights?

Valerie Joy 05-31-2006 11:02 PM

Hi everyone!

I had an ok day today. I had an early work day and was high on the calories. I'm still trying to figure out how to keep my calories lower when I'm working. It seems when I'm up longer hours I'm having an extra little meal.

2032 calories, 655 deficit, 45 minutes curves
