((sigh)) My turn for a mini-pity-party...

Yesterday's deficit was 868. It's the first time since I started recording that I've had a weekday deficit under 1,000. 1,000 on weekdays is my goal. If only I hadn't had those 2 extra cups of coffee (cream is the culprit there).

Again, I got hit hard with sodium yesterday. Didn't have the soup. Who knew spaghetti sauce was another sodium santuary??? I know now.

Today is my *official* weigh-in day, the day I use for recording benchmarks, even though I weigh daily. For the past eight days, the same half pound or so has taunted me. Up, down, up, down... net loss for the week, a measly quarter pound. I can't even update my ticker for that. I thought I *should* have had the wooosh water loss by now. Probably that sodium. Geez, I hate TOM.

I doubt I'll be able to make my goal by next Wednesday's deadline. I'd need to lose 3 pounds by then. Probably ain't gonna happen. Did I mention I hate TOM?

Ah well, que sera sera. I'm just going to have to hope my body returns to being reasonable next week. And while I don't plan on having an all-out food-fest, I'm also going to relax and take it easy (as is part of my plan) over the weekend. I will not punish myself for things I can't control (blasted TOM).

TGIF everyone (and thanks for letting me have my little ). Ok, Pity Party over. Let the real party begin!!! T'is the weekend!!! Yay!

Well in Pittsburgh its gloomy cold and snowing Punx Phil was right as usual.
Ive lost 5 lb in 10 days so far with this calorie counting. I have some great expectations for March but will not be too hard on myself if it doesnt happen.
Also signed my parents up for fidday so they could loose a couple to feel better. This month after I loose the next 5 I plan on exercising. I have a great treadmill that I'll use and alternate with an exercize ball which I had great success with the last time around. So heres to a great March all!!!

to you girls, lots of .

Yesterday wasn't too great either, went out to dinner again to a thai place, had fried rice with pork.

Deficit for yesterday was 458.

I also weighed myself this morning and I'm up 2lbs from my last weigh in . It's the end of my TOM though and last weekend I went a bit bonkers with pre-menstrual eating so that probably accounts for the gain. Plus I've only been drinking 1 liter of water a day so I need to up it to 2 to flush all that excess out.

Still, I'm not going to despair, I went to the gym 4 x this week before work and worked my butt off. I'm going to keep counting calories and for the love of pete I'm going to stop making bad food choices.

It's the Oscars on Sunday and I watch it every year, this year instead of buying my usual chocolate to enjoy I'm going to make a healthy fruit smoothie.

Lena: you will beat that 1/2lb, everyone is allowed a pity party now and again although I've been throwing far too many for myself lately.

Mdudas: good job!!

AJSma: 1200 deficit is awesome!

blues: woohoo if you have lost inches! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks again for the kind words girls, this thread is becoming a little haven to me. You're all so generous with the support, I really appreciate it and hope I give some in return.

Ah - here you all are!!

Well, AF is finally over and I've lost that 2 lbs it jumped up last week and another half pound down as well!!

Sorry to all those who had bad weeks or bad days but just jump back up again and put it behind you. What's done is done! Just keep thinking of that bikini or little dress you'll be wearing when you hit your goal!!

Deficit yesterday was 1078.

Ugh....This TOM is really getting to me. I feel like I could just eat and eat and eat and I'm never satisfied.

Robsia--that's great..I love it when the scale goes down like that!!! YEah!

Do you think that if I take in 1400 cal/day that I could loose at least 2lbs per week, or would I have to keep my cal's lower. I'm a SAHM and I spend pretty much all day taking are of my 3yr old and a 3mos old. I do manage to usually get in at least 30mins either on the treadmill or with a WATP dvd. I'm just trying t figure out how much I should be eating because I want to at least try for a 2lb loss/week.

What's with everyone and the TOM? Don't pass it my way, thanks

AJsMa - thanks for the support. I think you are probably right about the foods I eat...it seems okay to my while I am eating/logging it but then when I compare to others it seems like I don't get as many good foods in. I might have to start scheduling in the weekly purchase of fresh vegetables as otherwise I just don't seem to get to it.

Lena! Don't worry about it. 1/4 lb loss is better than maintaining and maintaining is better than gaining. I'll bet if you keep doing good you'll see the next lb loss come soon enough and bigger than you expected.

Mdudas - we're having quite the rainstorm here too, not really "winter" but it is for us. Good for you on getting your parents involved, did they volunteer? Are they computer savvy?

Lynne - pretty good deficit for a "bad" day for you. I'll bet TOM and sodium are responsible for the freak scale reading.

Robsia - congrats on the re-losing, you must be in a pretty good mood.

AngieLynne - have you played with BMR calculators? I try not to set too many lbs per week goals for myself, but that's just me.

Deficit of 187 for me yesterday but I think something is working because scale was good to me last night and good to me this morning. The key is to make this weekend a GOOD weekend. I've already planned dinner tonight(or at least I have 3 choices ready for my fiance so no excuse to eat out tonight) and since I have class tomorrow morning I get to plan my own breakfast/lunch tomorrow. Just have 2 more dinners, and 1 lunch to worry about and be good for than I am back on track for next week. Planning is really key. I've started to do it so much in every other aspect of my life I'm not sure why I should think eating to be any different. Take care ladies!

Well, it sounds like you could. My average so far is 2.6 lbs per week on an average daily intake of 1270 cals. I have been doing my DVD which is 55 minutes about 3 x a week, so it probably averages out similar to yours. All you can do is try.

The maths is that you should have a deficit of 1000 cals per day to lose 2 lbs a week, so if you want to eat 1400 per day, you need to burn 2400 per day.

I use Nutridiary to keep track and it's almost bang on for me - they say I should have lost 22.2 lb so far and I've lost 23 lbs.

Thanks....I've never heard of nutidiary. I use Fitday and I like that I can customize my foods and so on.

I'm just curious how accurate their calories burned section is...because if I actually burned as many as they say I burned, I should be loosing a whole lot more!!! :-)

Hello...Just found the new thread...I've been doing really good on the eating...but I need to kick up the exercising....3-1 deficit was 454 I had a higher calorie day 1500 and 3-2 deficit was 927...

angie - I weigh close to you and I was only eating an average of 1200 per day and was only losing about 1lb per week...Now I've uped my calories to average around 1400 and now I'm losing 2lbs per week so you should do good on 1400...

Robsia WTG now your back on track..keep it upLynne - I've noticed that thai & chinese food is very high in sodium so your probably retaining fluid.

Here's my observation about the TOM: You know how women who spend a lot of time together (i.e.,work together live together, etc.) seem to eventually get on the same cycle. Could something similar be happening here? Hmmm....

Today was not great for me!! Because I think I am PMS'ing. It's amazing how the urge to eat junk food and crap is very nearly overwheleming when I'm PMS'ing. It's not even that bad when I am actually TOM. I still posted about a 400 calorie deficit.

LynneA - good decision on the smoothie. I envision a comfy robe (or whatever ya got!). Snuggle up on the couch. Watch the Oscars (I really don't get into them. So, it would be a different thing for me - a book). And, leisurely enjoy your smoothie. There are worse things in the world!

Mdudas - Fabulous!

Angielynne - I'm trying not to pressure myself over a number loss. I know I'll get discouraged and probably give up if I do. According to Fitday, I average about an 800/day deficit (I don't monkey with the BMR too much either). I figure as long as I am at a deficit of any sort, I'm going to win eventually. Even if it takes a year. I have to eat healthy for the rest of my life and watch my intake, so what does it matter if I don't hit the magical numbers immediately.

Having said that, I need to exercise more. I absolutely love exercising. I feel powerful and strong and good about myself. In fact, I did aerobics until I was 7 1/2 months pregnant. That's about the time I was peeing more than I was exercising. So, I gave it up then! Unfortunately, I can't stand to put AJ in a child care room while I work out after he has been in day care for 9 hours. So, I try to exercise at home. But, it ain't easy! It is the number two most important thing to losing weight and being healthy, however. Oh well, I'll figure it out.

Robsia - I love looking at your numbers! They give me hope!

Blues - My heart goes out to you! I've been there and done that! Take care of yourself! That is the absolute best advice I, or anyone else, can give you!

Well, I need to go! DH requires "attention." Darn it!!! I want to go to bed!

Angielynne - well, I never used Fitday so I don't know. From what people have said they tend to set it to the bedbound setting and just add on all the activities during the day.

AJsMa - I love looking at my numbers too, but mostly it's with awe and amazement that's it's actually coming off. I put it all down to being here.

I used Nutridiary last year and managed to lose about 8 lbs before I went to a party and gave up. This time it's different, there is so much support and encouragement.

Went down 1.1 this morning!! Guess all that retained water must have finally gone.

Morning all .

741 deficit for me yesterday.

Robsia, thanks for that simple math about how many cals to have deficit in per day if you want to lose 2lbs a week. I will try to use that formula you gave.

AJSma - yes, I have a comfy robe!! It's huge and fluffy, I look like a little walking snowman when I wear it and I will be wearing it "to the Oscars" . No Neil Lane diamonds though .

Blues - I am planning a good weekend too. Got to do my shopping list for tomorrow but I already have breakfast and dinner planned for. We're going to a local car show/chilli & salsa cook off today so I'm hoping I can pick up something good to eat there.

Good morning, everyone! I can't believe I'm here so very early on a Saturday, but I couldn't sleep, so here I am!

Yesterday's deficit was 1,022. And, this morning's weight was down a half pound since yesterday, so I'm hoping that's an indication that TOM was, indeed, the cause of my little speedbump. Thanks for the kind words, they helped me keep it all in perspective!

Lynne, sounds like you have a fun weekend planned. Is the car show for classic cars or new cars? And enjoy thoe Oscars! Do you have any picks?

AJsMa, I agree with you 100%. As long as we keep up the deficits and exercise, the pounds will eventually sort themselves out. It may not be exactly on the schedule we've set out, but it will happen.

Donna, isn't it weird how you kicked up the calories and lost more? It's amazing how our bodies work.

Blues, I know what you mean about the fresh fruits and veggies. I've also been trying to step up my use of them, but it's still a struggle. Never been one much for fruits and veggies.

Robsia, always the inspiration! Your dedication amazes me -- keep up the good work!

Angie, have you compared Fitday's Calories Burned to any other calculator? That's something I keep meaning to do. I did a comparison of abuot 6 different calculators (including Fitday and here) for BMRRMR and they all came out within about 100 calories of each other. I should pick a few activities and do the same test.

Also, are you substituting activities for "rest" calories? In other words, if you have 24 hours on "bedrest" at 1 calorie per minute and then do 30 minutes of running at 10 calories per minute (made-up numbers), I'd think you'd have to substitute out 30 minutes of "bedrest". Otherwise you'd have a day that was 24 hours and 30 minutes long. You'd need 23 1/2 hours of rest and 30 minutes of running to get a 24 hour day.

I don't recall if Fitday does that calculation for you. I'd imagine it does, because FitdayPC does. I never really noticed it, though, until I moved to PC.

Well, time to go get some coffee -- make it a great day everyone!

Yay for your loss Lena .

The car show was classic cars, so lots of old chevy's and the like, it was pretty good. We missed the chilli cookoff which was a good thing, southern food isn't known for it's healthyness, even chilli. I ended up having a chicken salad at a local restaurant for lunch.

My picks for the oscars are pretty much what all the critics are saying: Reese Witherspoon Best Actress, Philip Seymour Hoffman Best Actor, Brokeback Mtn Best Movie, Ang Lee Best Director, I would love to see George Clooney take Best Supporting Actor and Rachel Weisz Best Supporting Actress (got to keep the British end up!).

Looking at my deficits, I really need to be having bigger ones. I'm not seeing much weight loss but after thinking about Robsia's math (1000 cals a day deficit to burn 2lbs a week, which means 500lb a day deficit for 1lb a week), it's no wonder really that I'm not losing, my deficits are small. So I'm going to look at my meal plans for next week and do some tweeking.

Well it's late and I have a date with my sofa , night!

Hi Everyone! Unfortunately, I'm not feeling super great tonight. Don't know why. Today was about a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. My deficit was about 600 or so. I think I'm going to bed now. Have a good tomorrow!
