Persistance. I have a very long journey, and I have always hit a wall where I just want to stop tracking and eat cheese. What are three things in the area of diet/exercise you need to improve? 1. Staying on track and recording everything I eat. 2. Staying under 2200 calories a day. 3. Exercising more than 2x/week. The people I see on here who have counted calories and lost weight have inspired me to count calories. I have been counting calories for 2 weeks now, and I already feel better!! If you have any advice about my regitiamate below then please let me know because I want to lose this weight now that I am young so I don't have this burden the rest of my life!!!!!! Regitamate: 1400 - 1500 calories per day Walk at least 7 miles a week. I used a calorie counter on my cell phone, and it has really helped. I weighed 255, and I am not going to weigh myself but once a month because I am really bad about obcessing myself with the scale!!. I use to weigh 145 pounds back in 2006, and after I had my daughter I began to stress out and the weight just piled on. I gained weight in 2007, and I have been yo-yoing from 225 to 255. I gain and lose that 30 pounds constantly, and I am ready to bypass all of it. I am ready to lose the weight!!! So I do need some support I will try to post everyday! Good afternoon fellow chicks! I'm really excited to have found this site. I can tell that everyone here is extremely supportive and in just a few minutes of browsing I have come across several fantastic ideas and inspiring stories.
I have been a major yo-yo dieter since I was about 18. I was a chubby kid growing up and when I went to college, I decided it was time for that to change. So I basically starved myself, took diet pills, and eventually went from an all-time high of 175 to an all-time low of 119. Since the unhealthy 119, I have yo-yoed up to 145, down to 130, up to 165, down to 140, up to 155, and now I'm at 142lbs. But this time I have absolutley committed myself to REASONABLE, HEALTHY dieting and exercise. Feeling strong and healthy and knowing that I am doing all I can to age gracefully and always be an active woman who takes care of herself and enjoys life is a much more important goal for me than seeing any particular number on the scale. I can tell that I will be surrounded by amazingly inspiring and supportive people here, and I'm really stoked to meet you all! HUGS! Two people in my life were diagnosed with cancer within a short period of time and I decided that life is too short to be wasting being a binging emotional wreck of a couch potato. Emotional eating, snacking that turns into binging, and not being able to get back on the wagon after taking a little spill off the edge. What are three things in the area of diet/exercise you need to improve? 1) I would really like to become more disciplined about keeping a food/emotion journal. I think it would help me tremendously to see on paper how my emotional and physical well-being are intertwined. I just need to get myself to stop for a few minutes every day to actually scribble down some notes. 2) I need to find some better coping mechanisms to avoid binges and also be able to stop them once I have started. 3) I've gotta start loving myself! I can be a real b**** to myself some times. I'm working on this one, but it's a big challenge for me to recognize and stop those destructive thought patterns. I have an auto-immune disease and I am the QUEEN of giving into that (w/ regards to exercise) when i'm flaring. The truth is I feel SO much better when i'm working out so I really need to knock that off. Over the past year or two, i've gone into full blown menopause (yay for me - I always was an early adopter) AND found out i'm hypothyroid and both are kind of atypical. I don't have a TON of weight to lose, but I seem to really be putting it on now quite easily and I just need to get into some good habits for the future.... I've always liked the idea of cutting out as much processed foods as possible. What was the "trigger" or incident that made you decide it was time to lose weight and become more fit?: Heh, it's actually kinda funny. When I was 15, I weighed 160 lbs and my parents started getting on my back about watching what I ate. I really didn't care at all, never really thought about my weight, but I literally got up one morning and decided I'd lose weight to get my parents off my back. I counted calories and exercised for 30min/day, and lost 20 lbs in about 2 months. I felt AWESOME, but I eventually fell off of the wagon, and now that I REALLY CARE I can't seem to get back into what my mom and I call the "click". What do you struggle with the most on this journey to health?: It's kind of hard right now because I have very very little say on what food is available to me. My parents do the grocery shopping and I simply can't afford to buy my own stuff. My dad and brother couldn't care less about dieting (for the most part) and when they shop for food, it's always junk and sweets. My mom is dieting like myself, but her approach seems to be 'if it's not in the kitchen I won't eat it' and so doesn't grocery shop besides what she needs to make her Monday night dinner (we trade off nights for cooking) thus we end up only having what the guys bring in. Say I wanted something for lunch right now (which I kinda do now that I think about it) I would have a choice of a can of diced tomatoes, deli slices ham, and 100 cal pudding; or I could cook the 6-8 serving lasagna in the freezer >.> yeah. We just don't keep snacks, healthy or other wise, and since everyone (but me) eats lunch out at work, we don't have lunch items. We switch off dinner nights, and only buy what ingredients we need for that night, and none of us know the meaning of the word "breakfast"... So I end up with a mediocre lunch, and then binge on dinner. What are three things in the area of diet/exercise you need to improve?: 1) I need to actually get up and exercise every night. 2) I need to can sugar, or at least moderate it properly, whichever my willpower can handle. 3) I need to stop making excused and get things done. I started piling on the weight and have never taken it off. I feel lethargic most days and am worried about the long term effects of my unhealthiness. I just finished a run in a musical, Cabaret, and I danced my butt off for two months and I was able to keep up with the younger dancers but my body really showed me it was out of shape and I was physically drained every night. I lost about 10 lbs but I started about 15 lbs heavier than I've ever been. Time to get this weight off! What do you struggle with the most on this journey to health?: When I get home from work the last thing I want to do is cook or work out. I take the easy way out and grab fast food and lay on my couch while I watch TV. And sticking to whatever I am doing! I always quit after I lose about 18 lbs and gain it all back. Some attempts have been more successful than others (I lost about 30 lbs when I was 16, now at 20 I've gained about 10 of it back). I was raised by my family to eat what I want when I want, and I'm sick of being the fat one. I also don't want to follow in my mother's footsteps to a sedentary lifestyle, morbid obesity, hypothyroidism, and a plethora of other health problems. Breaking though the 15 stone barrier and realising that lacing my shoes was making me breathless What do you struggle with the most on this journey to health? Actually getting on the treadmill, becoming more active, avoiding snacking (Evil motivation ) Who do you want to look better than? : I don't want to look better than anyone but Ellen Degeneres looks really fit. I find her quite inspirational What can you not wait to wear when you are at goal weight or size: My favourite pair of jeans and a lovely stripey jumper that I have which is too small. I have a wardrobe full of clothes I can't wait to wear. Clothes are a big motivation for me as I'm well tired of the tracksuit look |
