August is here!
Yesterday was 1256 cals 23F/56C/21P and 27g fiber. Averages for July were 1779 31F/50C/18P and 24g fiber. Can YOU spot the days I was at my mom's in July in my fitday chart??? My goals this month: 1400-1700 cals/day Get on a regular weight-lifting and workout schedule (I'm doing both, just sortof randomly now when I can fit them in) Exercise more self-control in eating during my visits to my mom's Enter 1-derland by the end of the month. --K |
Wow, I can't believe it's already August. My goals are:
1.Get down to 145 lbs 2.Keep up the calorie counting and healthy diet 3.Stay on top of my workouts once I go back to work (teaching) this month |
Hi. This is my first post, but I have been lurking for the past month. I am 5'2" and 161 lbs. At the beginning of July I was 172. My averages for July were: 1632 calories, 23%f, 47%c, 24%p, 6% alcohol, 23g fiber. Yesterday was: 1632 calories, 21%f, 44%c, 35%p, 28g fiber. My goals for this month are:
1. Loose 10 lbs 2. Stick with my workout schedule 3. Get at least 30g fiber per day Thanks for all the advice I have already received from reading the forum, and I look forward to getting to know you all better! Cheers! Tiffany |
Happy August everyone!
My calories for the last week averaged out to 1588. 29% fat, 18% protein, 53% carbs. My goal for this month is a pretty steep one, I want to be 180 before my son's birthday on Sept.5th. That would also be my 3 month mark for trying to lose weight and so I would have lost 22.5 pounds in 3 months. I also want to increase my protein and fiber, I don't have an average for my fiber but I do know that I didn't make it to the 25g marker on my counter alot of days. So my goal is to hit that mark or surpass it everyday. I bought a fiber35 supplement shake for the days it just isn't happening any other way, but I prefer to use real life foods so that I can continue this way into maintenance. Also I want to start working out more, like by that I mean actually working out lol. I pretty much have been a lazy bum in that arena but I want to stop that by working out unless I have had a VERY active day. My husband has vacation next week and we are gonna do some clean up around our house and yard so some days that might count. Have a great week! |
I'm having a hard time with my realization that it is August already. There is so much to do before the end of the month. We move on the 25th. Ahhhhh!
Yesterday we went out to all-you-can-eat pizza. I had planned on having two pieces and calling it quits, but that didn't happen. I ended up over 2000 calories, so I'm hoping to keep today on the low side. My goal for August is not to gain anything. Dealing with moving is enough for me right now, so I just want to stay right where I am. For now, at least. Once we are settled, I'm going to attack these last 5 lbs with a vengance! edzard & petra~ Congrats on the jobs!!! rock-n-roll~ I quit drinking all soda in December and I haven't really looked back. You can do it! After the first week or so, it gets much easier. One thing I missed in the begining was the carbonation, so I drank sparkling mineral water as a replacement for awhile. Also, if you live near a Trader Joe's they have a yummy tropical tea, that is so good iced! It doesn't even need sweetener. Tiffkuhn~ Welcome! queenjane~ Many months my chart looked like that too. You are doing a great job. Keep up the good work! tinky~ Mmmm... gyros... you are making me hungry and I still have over an hour til lunch time. Lol. irishfairy~ Get well soon! I just got over a summer cold myself. Why are summer colds worse than winter colds? I swear they kick my booty way more than in the winter. |
zenor I hear you on that... I feel like I am dying here. The weather is VERY hot for where I live (ontario canada) and VERY humid. I don't know my farenheit but its 38 celsus with the humid X the online converter says thats 100.4 F. I can't breath and I am pouring sweat. my poor 6 month old wants to be picked up all the time but its just too hot and I don't want him to get sick either. the worse part is when I get a cold I FEEL SOOOOO HUNGRY trying to keep my calories underwraps...I have a baseball game to go to (jays vs rangers) on sunday with my inlaws and I am worried about cal counting its so hard because we eat out all day and they pick random places as we pass them so I am not sure how or if I can stay in calorie count (can't bring food into the park and its 1:00 afternoon game) any suggestions would greatly help

Well I finally get to come back. Between vacation and working half days I am so far behind that its not funny but I have to get back to counting my calories. I would say I have been off for about a month now but last week was really bad because we were on vacation and my DH loves buffets and lets say I buffet alright. So I am not going to say what I weigh until next week because it isn't pretty. It is amazing how easily it comes back on. I must say I have lost 4 lbs since Sunday so that is a lot of bloat.
Zenor ~ You are so close but I understand stress and what it can do to you. For the month of July I was working half days but trying to do 1 1/2 jobs (my job and my students). I usually left here totally upset to the point I couldn't enjoy the 1/2 days. Next year I am going to try and work something better out. 90% of the time I only got 2 hours a day and let me tell you I only claimed 2 hours. They put me thru the ringer. Did you find a place yet? The last I knew you were still looking. I decided to up my calories and keep them there until I stop losing. I was doing around 1400 - 1500 calories. Now I am doing around 1600 - 1700 calories and I am losing so I am going to stay right here because it allows a little indulgence that might just keep me on track on the weekends. I tend to be very active so maybe I need the extra to keep my energy up. OH, we have a new additon to the family of animals we have. We just go the chickens but we also have a miniature horse now. I will try and attach a picture of him and my favorite chicken. I so missed the support here and I am happy to be back but I better get going and do some work. I will talk at you all tomorrow. |
I changed my ticker to reveal where I am right now.
Also, I posted a picture of my DGS where he found an old typewriter ribbon and helped Grammy string it all over the office. I am not sure how he got it all wrapped around himself. He is such a nut but he was black when he was done. As you can tell he has no fear of the chickens either. He goes right in and picks them up. Of course, my dog is keeping a watchful eye over the situation but he isn't allowed in there because he is a hunting dog and he will pin them down and I worry he will kill them. The hen DGS is holding is one of my favs, she is very gentle and easy to pickup and one of the smallest we have. |

Here is my girl before DGS was holding her, you can see him underneath trying to get her. HEHEHE!
OK, I really have to go now and I will talk at you all tomorrow. |
Happy August!
My July stats... daily cals: 1744 fiber: 49 sodium: 3835 Pounds lost: 8 August goals: COOK, healthy meals more from scratch plan dinners weekly grocery shop weekly (only at main store! no side trips to expensive grocery store) |
adorable chicky, Grammy!
|
Ok... as promised here is my hair cut!! I cut 2-3 inches cut off, got bangs, and for the first time I got it foiled! I feel so pretty :)
edited out because I am paranoid :p |
Mind if I join in?
I've been a naughty girl these past few days so I'm hoping maybe an accountability thread such as this might give me a kick in the pants. I haven't been completely horrible but you all know it's a slippery slope... My July stats were: Cals: 1558 Fat: 51g, 31% Carbs: 196g, 43% Protein: 98g, 26% Fiber: 38g Not too shabby. I started upping my fiber (foods, not supplements) during the middle of July so it's not as high as I want yet but should be in August. I'm shooting for 45g/day. Cals, I try to average around 1500 so did okay there. Protein and fat, I'm okay with but I'll probably be tweaking that this month (as well as cals if needed) since I've just begun with weights. I could definitely stand to have a bit less fat. Those danged Chinese and pizza buffets are evil, I tell ya. Oh, I started July at 213 pounds but then got whammied with 4th of July and two birthday parties so ended up gaining up to 217.8. However, I ended July with 209 pounds so it's all good. Goals for August (I turn 39 on the 10th, by the way. :carrot: ): 1) I want to be nicely under 200 by the end of August. 2) I want to continue on my journey towards eating more "real" foods and healthier. 3) I want to continue with my (almost) daily treadmill habit -- walking or running doesn't matter as long as I keep up the movement. 4) I want to make my new weightlifting and abs workout a 3x week habit. Just four goals for August. Easy peasy, right? ;) |
Grammy~ DGS with the typewriter ribbon is so funny and adorable! That's one for the scrapbook! What kind of chicken is that? I saw one at the fair that was similar called a Black Sumatra. Is that what it is? She's pretty. And, yes, we have a house we are renting. Now we just need to finish packing and make all the phone calls that one has to make when moving.
Rock-N-Roll~ Great hair! Thanks for putting a face to the name! ;) OH2007~ Welcome! |
rock n roll : your hair looks awesome I love getting my hair done I always feel beautiful after I haven't had my hair done since before I got pregnant...I had an updo done for my wedding but nothing else
|
RocknRoll ... you should feel pretty ... you are!

Hey guys....
Edzard- You can do it girl!!! Remember you gotta catch up to me! ;) Irish-I'm sorry that you don't feel well, and with the heat it's makes things wors. I think the worst cold I had was in the heat of summer! Ugh! I hope you feel better. Zenor- All you can eat pizza...wow, I couldn't do it! I don't trust myself. Wow, the 25th..that is just around the corner! Good Luck! The Gyros were pretty good! I haven't had one in 2 years, and it was so delicious. GrammyL- :carrot: Yay you're back! DGS is so adorable!!!!! I love that typewriter ribbon pic! He has a cute smile too! The animals are also cute too!! RockNRoll- You are so gorgeous! I love the hair too, I just got my hair about that length too! CoolMom- Meals from scratch are what I'm aiming for too!!! Ugh...it's get so hard! :welcome3: to all the newbies!!! Good Luck with everything!!! |
Rock 'n Roll - Your hair is adorable! I have an appointment in about 3 weeks to have mine done. I'm going the same length, and getting it done strawberry blonde with lots of red in it. It will be my little reward to myself, hopefully by that time I will be down 10 pounds!
|
Hi! I'm new to this thread, but I'm going to set an August goal of getting down to 215. :) Okay, this started at a mini-goal of 210 by September 1st, but I missed my mini-goal for August first by 2 pounds, and found myself thinking that now I'd have to lose TWELVE pounds by September 1st... hmmm... and thus, this could be the road to failure. So - a lesser goal for august... and if I pass it - GREAT! :joker:
I'm aiming for between 1450-1500 calories a day this month! Heather :D |
Hi everyone! I was hoping I could join this thread. I am counting calories, too. It's worked for me in the past and I know it can work for me again!
Ugh, is it seriously August? I'm a grad student and reaaalllly not looking forward to school starting at the end of the month. :( Anyway, August goals.... - Keep around 1400-1500 cals a day - Exercise 1000 minutes this month! - Hopefully lose about 10 lbs. - Work on taming my love of sweets |
RocknRoll: You look awesome! Love the hair cut!
Good luck with goals all. I have to head to bed but wanted to stop in and wish everyone a great August and write out today's numbers. Cal: 1119 Fat: 28% Carb: 50% Protein: 22% Another low day. I was running about and hung out with some friends- sidestepped Wendy's and alcohol! WHOOHOO! Tomorrow needs to be a higher day since the past two days have been so low. |
Rock n roll, you are one hot mama! :::whistle::::
Welcome to all the new posters!!!! In my quest to make the kitchen more cooking friendly, we drove two hours in traffic, to IKEA, to buy a microwave/kitchen cart (to get it off my counter space) only to find it OUT OF STOCK! It was like the Grizzwalds finally making it to Wally World and it was closed. Unbelievable. |
You guys make me blush!! :p
Calories- 1234 I was craving sweets so bad today but I stuck with my yogurt and flax seed! Seriously though, thank you everyone for ALL the nice words!! I'm taking down the picture now but I am glad you all liked it! :) |
Hope you guys don't mind if I join in, too.
My July averages: 1531 calories consumed Fat: 63g 38% Sat: 19g 12% Poly: 13g 8% Mono: 26g 15% Carbs: 171g 38% Fiber: 29g Protein: 90g 24% I exercised 3,444 minutes in July! I ran five miles twice a week and took a 90 minute yoga class once a week and then threw other stuff in there, too. I walked somewhere every day. Average Calories Burned: Total: 2802 Basal: 1367 49% Lifestyle: 1094 39% Activities: 342 12% My August goals: 1300 calories a day (except I'm going to give myself a pass on the night of my sister's wedding and not count anything, and my husband and I are planning a night out to a nice restaurant as a late anniversary celebration, so I'm not going to count that, but I will be extra specially good on the days preceding and following those two indulgences) Keep up the exercise (running twice a week, elliptical twice a week on vacation, walking every day) Not weigh in again until 1 September Journal with Bob Greene's The Best Life Diet Daily Journal Quote:
Looking forward to getting to know you all better! Kara |
tomandkara: we tried to bring food last time and they told us no even though I said I needed to have it. my son is only 6 months and has no teeth so unless I eat baby food I doubt they will believe me.
|
Hi all,
I'm going to be another August joiner. Yesterday was: cal - 1797, fiber - 62, sodium 2170 My goals for August are: 1) calories between 1500-1650 2) more fiber and less sodium 3) more beans, less meat 4) walk 4 miles 5 days a week and swim 2 days a week, except during the 2 weeks when I'll be traveling 5) physical therapy exercises for my back 2x per day |
Wednesday 1661 calories, 31% fat...I went overboard at dinner. Did you know that the skin from a whole chicken is over 500 calories and 49g of fat? I like to grill beer can chicken and in the past I've eaten all the crispy skin from the whole bird. Yesterday I threw all the skin away except for 2 wings, which I ate. It was just enough to satisfy me and I learned that if I let the chicken sit for awhile the skin gets sort of soggy and loses it's crispiness. So, I guess I'm making babysteps!
My goals for August: 1) Eat less than 1600 calories per day 2) Total fat % per day between 25-30% 3) Get into the 170s! Thanks for letting me share! Have a great Thursday! |

GOOOOOOOD Morning All!
I see we have lots of new people joining in. Welcome all, this is a fantastic group and very helpful, I love it here. Calories yesterday were 1752. Exercise: 20 minute walk, cleared horse pasture of burrs (7 garden cart loads and 2 hrs later I finally finished and that was only one paddock). I have attached some pictures of DGS with his first experience of really getting dirty and from our vacation. I also attached some more pictures of him and the chickens. He just loves those crazy birds. First thing when he gets up he wants in there and he walks around clucking. Zenor ~ All our chickens are Bantam's but that is just the general breed. There are different types of bantams and we have several of them but really no clue on what is what. The scarry thing is I was the one against getting them and now I want more. There are so many types of bantams and I would like to get a few other breeds that we don't have. Silkies are beautiful and DD and I both want to get some. We have 11 right now but some have to go because we have WAY to many roosters. I think at least 6 are roosters. The Amish that made our harness said they would take them but warned us they would be dinner. Coolmom ~ What a day, I would be a little irritated from that trip. I am also going to start doing more home cooking. My goal for this month is less restaurant eating also. I watched "Honey we are kiling our kids" last night and the family ate fast food all the time. In one day each child was eating enough fat from fast food to equal a stick of butter. :yikes: I knew it was bad for you but not that bad. I took YDD to the doctor yesterday and I think there are some changes that are going to take place, not sure how I am going to approach it. She weighed 251 lbs and her blood pressure was high and she is only 17. We joined Curves and we are doing that 3 times a week but her eating is out of controll. Anyone have any idea's. I normally let her be but her blood pressure is a serious issue and its not the first time it has been high. DH has also ballooned in the last 6 months and is starting to concern me. He said he is sure he is close to 400 lbs and I believe him. This is no longer a laughing matter where we joke about our weight, we have to do something before something happens to someone. Well I better get g oing and get some work done. Will check back in a while. |

Lara: I watch that show often but missed that episode. On of the episodes I was watching yesterday afternoon said that the children were consuming enough calories each WEEK to amount to 5 pounds of pure fat. Really makes you think.
Just thought I would stop in real quick and state my goals for August before I hop on the treadmill to walk during Ellen. 1. Stay between 1300-1700 calories each day. 2. Lower my sodium to average 2400/day. 3. Do structured exercises at LEAST 6 times a week. 4. I'm only 11 pounds away from my first mini goal, think I can make it by the end of August? Have a great day all! |
Good Morning all!! My calories were low yesterday.
I think I had about 1276 and 30 grams of Fiber Wow... :welcome2: to all the newbies that just joined us! This is getting to be a strong group we have here! We can do this ladies!! Let's all get these pounds off! GrammyL- Your DGS is just too cute for words! Did the Dr. talk to your YDD? It took a little heart to heart for me to realize. As for your DH, I'm working on DF, he is slowly getting up there. I sometimes cringe when I see him eat like 3 slices of pizza knowing that each slice contains up to 700-800 calories a slice. I don't know how to approach him, other than ask him to join me on walks or working out,but those are seldom. I want to drag is butt to the Dr.s but he doesn't want to go. Ugh! I'm worried that I will be a young widow or something. It's tough! When you find a solution let me know, will ya? Brightside- I used to love the skin until I found out that, thats where all the fat and calories are. I took baby steps too! You can do it! Well I gotta head back to work, I'm trying to clean out my office! Ugh! LOL! |
Weigh in this morning: 145.4
Why doesn't my body wan't to lose that .4 so I can say I have lost 20 pounds?!? :p I really want to be 140 by the time school starts but at this rate I don't think so... I will try super hard though! I think school starts on august 24th? I need to read my summer reading and do my senior project ugggh! I had a tasty breakfast- yogurt and flax seeds! I figured it was a good way to get fiber in my diet since I have been pretty low in fiber the past week. EDIT! I forgot the main point of this post!! Ok so after I got my hair done I went shopping in the mall for new clothes and we went to the Gap. I got three really cute shirts, 1 skirt, and 2 pairs of PANTS! I tried on the pants and you won't believe what size fit me... an 8! Last time I went shopping a size 12 wouldn't zip up and I refused to try anything else on. Now I look great in 8's :) |
RocknRoll - Congrats on the size 8s! I'm sure you felt great! I'm doing some major shopping next weekend, for the first time since beginning to lose weight, and I'm hoping I'll see a small difference in the way clothes are fitting!
|
Wow thanks for all the warm welcomes! I am SO BUSY at work today, but I wanted to take a minute and report on yesterday:
1632 Calories, 29g (17%)f, 206g (44%) c, 106g (27%) p, 25g (12%) alcohol. I also walked just shy of 10 miles yesterday and did a 20 minutes abs tape. Thanks for the support! Tiffany |
I hope you all dont mind me jumping in i started well i should say RE started cal counting last week and lost 2 lbs
|
Yesterdays stats:
Cals: 1572 Fat: 21g, 12% Carbs: 304g, 68% Protein: 73g, 19% Fiber: 44g My carbs almost always come from mostly veggies but yesterday we got stuck running errands during lunch so I bought picnic sandwich-makings and had a rare-for-me roll with the meat and veggies. The store I stopped at had only crappy water (Aquafina and Dasani -- neither of which I like) so I also had a Sprite. I should have at least bought a juice instead. Oops. I didn't even think of juice until we were already eating. :o |
