Ok, so I'm like Samantha, what can I say????? :dunno: :D I'm just a take charge kinda-gal that way. :p And I have little 23y/o boys following me at work too!

What was your "style" in highschool and do you still incorporate some of that today?

OMG, the 80's! I did alot of the pedal pushers w/ pumps w/ ruffled socks--like the ones little girls wear, with big wide patent leather belts. I also did the preppy thing for awhile w/ the La Coste polo's with the levi's rolled up at the cuffs and penny-loafers (no socks) & of course the v-neck sweater tied around the neck. Towards the end of the 80's (i was out of hs in '87) it was all about the big shoulder padded blazers and leggings with flats. And can't forget the mini-skirts!

This makes me giggle....how in the heck did we think this looked good? ;) (and I'd have to add that sometimes the leggings were stirrup pants and sometimes not)

Ick! I'm pretty sure I'll pass on this one!! :D

Karen - I really want to read that book now after your description.

You won't regret reading it....it's about how to live life to it's fullest (regardless of the trials life brings you.) Something I need to be reminded of from time to time.

How do you take your flax seed?

I get ground flax from Sam's Club and add it to all kinds of things. Homemade bread, Laughing Cow Cheese, my bowl of cereal, pastas, eggs, where ever I think I can sneak it into a recipe. I am for 2 TBS per day.

Lol - long blond hair, parted down the middle - straight as a stick. Bell bottom jeans that dragged on the ground, baby doll top that made me look like I was pregnant in bright daisy or geometric shapes. Oh, and the lovely poncho I knitted to go over the ensemble with the floppy hat and over-sized plastic sun glasses - ah the early 70s were quite the era.

No, there is nothing about my "style" in high school that I could incorporate into my look today at age 50 that would "fly".

However, DH says that my legs look better in short skirts (skorts these days) than they did in HS. :D

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!

I'm reading several books right now. I can't seem to only read one at a time. I'm reading Peter Pan aloud to the kids and we're listening to Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians on CD. I'm reading Fire In the Bones: William Tyndale--Martyr, Father of the English Bible and I'm listening to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Lincoln on my ipod. After my trip, I ordered the Popol Vuh which in the spiritual book of the Maya. I'm really excited for it to come. I ordered a kid's version too, so that I can share the stories with my kids. I really loved learning about the Maya culture on my trip.

I think I'd recommend all the books I'm reading right now. I'm not totally sure about Alcatraz. We just started that one and it's a little weird, but my friend recommended it so we'll stick with it.

Definitely the 80s look with big hair! No more 80s look for me, now it's just the tired mom look.

Actually, I got my hair cut right before I left on my trip. My oldest two girls and I cut our hair for Locks of Love. It was fun to do together and I love how our cuts turned out. This was great for me because I haven't done much for *me* in a long time! A new haircut and a vacation without the kids was just what I needed.

Hun.e.B 07-10-2008 08:24 PM

LOL aww man I love all these 80s flashbacks!! Mini skirts, blazers and chunky belts! WOOHOO! LOL!

Speaking of Andi...how's the foot doing?

Its so hot here today, and I'm exhausted from work, I need some mindless reading. I might just go treat myself the Fearless Fourteen!!

shelby897 07-10-2008 09:03 PM

Hello ladies!! I am packing to take the kids camping for the weekend, so I won't be back until Sunday -- but as we hike, I will try to hum some kind of 3FC Red Team theme song :D to keep me on track!!

As far as the 80's -- I was in high school -- too much blue/purple eye shadow, a layer of hair spray on too big, winged back hair and -- when were leg warmers "in"?? I also remember at some point tucking my jeans into my socks, wearing like two or three "preppie" shirts layered together and those stupid metal bracelet "hoops" like 20 at a time. :dizzy:

Hope everyone has an awesome weekend.

So far, it is wonderful. Great zany characters and of course Lula and Grandma and Joe an RANGER figure prominently. :D

jay41 07-10-2008 10:16 PM

The 80's...I was in high school then. Preppie was in and I did that big time.

I graduated and went off to the Marine Corps. I looked totally hot in that uniform ;) -- my goal weight is the weight I was back then.

Hun.e.B 07-10-2008 10:24 PM

Well I didnt get the book but now that Counting says that Ranger is out there like a big bright shining hunka hunka burnin love star!! I want it!! I bought myself 4 new shirts instead. I was feeling frumpy and uncomfortable in my usual work clothes so I hit the clearance racks!

Have a great trip Shelby! I'm so jealous of our camping!! It doesnt really look like I'm gonna get to go this year :(

Andi18 07-10-2008 11:12 PM

The foot is doing somewhat better...still a little painful and still a little discolored. I was hoping to make it to boot camp tonight but figured I better not try it and injure it more.

SATC - I haven't watched it but want to start now hahaha
You scored 40% Charlotte
You scored 30% Carrie
You scored 20% Samantha
You scored 10% Miranda
I can totally see this! haha

My style in HS:
comfortable. always wore jeans and a t-shirt. jeans were not tight nor were they too baggy, favorite types of jeans were from the mens department. I hated the way female jeans fit, even in the early-mid 90s I liked them to sit below the waist line! haha I loved my Girbaud jeans and Esprit shirts. Yeah, I liked the name brand stuff but didn't have much of it.

What book are you reading currently:
Janet Evanovich - Stephanie Plum series - currently on book number 7 "Seven Up" - I want to be with Ranger and Morelli !!!

ThisTimeIsDifferent 07-11-2008 12:20 AM

Hiya

My internet connection has been screwy all day! I hate wireless routers

I've never watched SATC (although I wish I had) but I took the quiz (thanks Roni :)). I have to say the first one is just like me :)

You scored 40% Charlotte
A romantic at heart, you chose the answers that demure Charlotte may have chosen. Strongly influenced by the intuitive, profound and sometimes naïve Water Signs -- Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces -- you're like a mother, a mystery and a poet all in one. Though on the surface you may seem innocent and all about seeking the good in people, beneath the surface, you hide secret yearnings for intimacy, for attachment and ideal love. You're seeking a knight in shining armor, a soul mate, someone who will complete you and tether you to the earth when you get carried away with your fantasies. You're super-sensitive, soaking up the moods of others; you emote freely, crying at commercials and sappy movies. You also provide a shoulder to cry on and open arms for hugs. Be careful that you're not so wide-eyed and trusting that you get taken in by some cunning wolf in sheep's clothing.

You scored 30% Miranda
You chose many of the same answers that Earth Sign-like Miranda, the cynical but pragmatic lawyer, might have chosen. Just like Miranda's had a tough time deciding whether to give in to the affections of Steve the Bartender, you don't give your heart up to just anyone. Miranda shies away from a relationship with Steve because he's 'just' a bartender, not something more conventionally ambitious or stable. Those with powerful Earth Sign qualities -- characteristics associated with Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn -- are cautious in love and seek stability and status over nearly anything else. Earth Signs provide a steady, realistic attitude and they can bring order out of chaos. A little-known Earth Sign fact: Incredibly sensual, you seethe beneath that smart, expensive business suit of yours, yearning for intimacy but hesitant to give up your material needs, your career ambitions or your responsibilities for a passionate moment that might not turn out the way you'd hope.

You scored 30% Carrie
Your answers peg you as a Carrie-type, much influenced by the Air Sign qualities associated with Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Like confident Carrie, a sex columnist, you're curious and perceptive, always seeking answers and never satisfied with the superficial. An Air Sign influence can lead to indecision and an avoidance of tough issues, like with Carrie and her on-again, off-again attachment to Mr. Big. Forward-thinking, incredibly intelligent and witty, you just exude quirky charm. You'd be utterly bored by someone who's just a pretty face or hot body -- though you don't mind looking and flirting! You're more turned on by an equally smart and funny mate, someone who challenges your mind and makes you laugh. You love to talk, so you need a good listener who's open to playful and eccentric ideas about love and lovemaking.

You scored 0% Samantha
You identify with Samantha's bold and liberated Fire Sign qualities, characteristics associated with the Signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. You're strong, audacious and larger than life -- and you take what you want! Sometimes you can even be thoughtless and selfish, as you get so caught up in craving immediate gratification and excitement that you overlook someone's feelings. Your personal style likely reflects your desires: sleek, low-cut, revealing just a bit more than might be considered acceptable. Watch that you're not coming on too strong, though. You could scare potential suitors off with all your drama. If you seek so much attention, the more basic qualities of the Fire Signs could be burned right out of the picture. Show less skin or cleavage and more of your creativity, your vibrant leadership skills and courageous generosity!

Brie~ I'm so sorry about your mom :hug:

*Question of the day*
My style in HS was tight clothes. I always wore tight shirts an jeans. I was really thin (of course I didnt think so back then). UMMMMMM....I'm to fat to wear that stuff now...LOL! One day ;)

Okay I can't keep my eyes open anymore...LOL! I'm sorry if I missed anyone  Catch ya in the morning.

I don't know why I skipped over the "What are you reading" question. Anyho, nothing exciting. I read various magazines, YOU On A Diet, Are You Ready!, and an Excel work book. Am I boring or what?

I hurt my foot & lower back moving furniture around and cleaning yesterday. I thought my little project was only gonna take 2 hours tops, 5 hours later I was pooped! Next project, the closets! Not today though.... Matt's Bday is tomorrow and he's gonna have a bunch of his buddy's over for a pool party and then a Xbox 360 marathon (nerd). So today I am gonna finish cleaning the house, so they can mess it back up and then I can do it all over again Sun or Monday. lol.
