woohoo im first to post besides chellez

Dora - your garlic looks beautiful! And so do you! We are possibly planning a road trip to SoCal in August, and I'm hoping you have tomatoes by then!!!

mariarose 07-01-2008 11:46 AM

Arghh every day I weigh slightly more than the previous day!!! I just can't find the time (or place, my fitness center is being renovated) for cardio. Today at lunch I'm going to walk 2 miles, which is better than nothing...

krjpy 07-01-2008 12:15 PM

OK, so I was running late yesterday because I did my Wii Yoga (30 minutes) after I did my 50 min W7D3 Run on the Elliptical, so I got this wonderful (can you hear the sarcasim) idea to set the clock 30 minutes earlier to be able to get it in again without running late.

Well, the dog got me up at 2 am and I didn't fall back to sleep until after 3:30 (which was the last time I saw the clock before it went off), so needless to say at 4:30, I hit the snooze button 3 times (21 minutes) before I finally crawled out of bed to go workout.

Well, I got my 50 W7D4 run in on the elliptical, but no Wii Yoga this morning. I will be fighting my son for the Wii tonight, I can see it now:)

Wish me luck ladies with the scale in the morning. I have been working out VERY hard lately and not sure my food intake is balanced yet (at least that is what I am hoping is the problem lately with the scale). I have been down a little each day since last WI, until this morning, when I went up .4 lbs, so I am hoping to put in a 2 lbs loss, but right now it is only 1.2.

How is the exercise going for everyone else?

Oh, I've tried that before, and it never seems to work out for me either. I'm a champion snooze-alarm player... ;) Oh, and 4:30 is middle of the night to me!

Zinke - thanks!!

Dora - did I miss pictures? Shoot. I'll have to go track them down - I love seeing your garden. Hmmm... mine's getting pretty enough where I should take some pics of mine to share - gotta buy batteries for my camera first.

I feel like I didn't sleep at all - my head didn't even hit the pillow until after midnight :o and then it was so hot that I tossed and turned. When I finally did get to sleep I had a neck cramp that woke me up at one point so I had to switch pillows and by the time my alarm clock went off I was just so confused and dissoriented. And thats pretty much how I still feel.

On the bright side I did 2.5 hours in my kayak last night - and I actually got a couple rolls in. Not enough to be comfortable with it yet, but its a start. But oh my, the ones I did wrong did a number on my shoulder!!! Ouchie, ouch.

mj5 07-01-2008 02:21 PM

Must have been something in the air last night...I didn't sleep well either. I had a hard time falling asleep then all of a sudden it was time to get up! Good news is I have kept myself busy today, so I have not been able to dwell on the fact that I am SO tired! Hopefully tonight I will actually get to bed a bit earlier.

I did not do my planned workout last night--I did 30 intense mins on the bike, though--I was sweating up a storm! Tonight I will do arms/shoulders and more cardio.

Doragone 07-01-2008 03:23 PM

Thanks all you bluesers who enjoyed my garlic (and curly hair while fried) pics.

No formal exercise because the work, and I do mean WORK, I've been doing in the yard is wiping me out. The weather is in the 90's, some breeze, but the air is awful with smoke from the N. Calif. fires. I'm digging, lifting, pushing - definitely getting a workout for hours at a time. Posted a 1.6 loss this week for an almost 20 pound loss for the challenge. Drinking tons of water too and op.

Got the wheels ordered to repair my elliptical, they should be here in the next week or so, so I hope to get started on that then, plus I ordered two more WATP dvds, one 4 mile and one for abs. I'll be adding the core strengthening on the ball as soon as I can figure out how to get the plug out to re-inflate it - any clues anyone???

Lost track of old posts, so no personals today. Good friend from church is coming over so I'm pretty excited about that - remembering all our discussions on how most of us are pretty isolated - well, that's me for sure. Also, a neighbor lady stopped in yesterday, saw me in the yard and said she had always planned on stopping in and introducing herself. She is Asian and is turning me onto some wisteria and other plants she has (kinda hard to discern through her accent- but hey, any free plants are great withe me!!!).

Well it's 12:25 now and friend coming at 1:30 so I'll go for now. Proud of all our bluesers, I'm sure we're going to rock this challenge all the way to the end!!!

Dora--awesome loss!

Did I miss a memo or results not posted on Tuesday?

Mrs Snark 07-01-2008 06:14 PM

I keep checking, Black Team has their results up but I don't see ours?

onthetee 07-01-2008 08:27 PM

I'll just take for granted that we won, then.

amouse 07-01-2008 09:02 PM

Dora to get the plug out of m,y ball i had to use my teeth.. lol . theose plugs hold fast .. and you cant use a tool to get it out becuase you will pop the ball .. so teeth is my only suggestion .. lol

I searched you tube the other day whilst looking at workout dvds on ebay and found one i may enjoy . its the billy blanks bootcamp set with 3 dvd and bands and it was 29.95 buy it now.. so in thought id give it a go.. his workouts look enjoyable.. anyone ever tried them?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN:IT&ih=006

Yesterday i layed on my bed and took a nap in the afternoon.. lol .. admittadly i had a terrible nights sleep monday night .. so i had a reason to feel tired but still .. I did pleanty of exercise yesterday morning too so i suppose im not doing to bad.. but everyday i wake up bummed knowing i have tio do aerobics to get my workout and then its no where near as good as the machine is.. lol ..

Yeah im nuts im saying i dont like aerobics .. so i bought 3 more dvds of it lol.. well i dont like the crap they are putting on tv.. and my dvds are ok but not high energy so.. thats why i bought them.. lol i have one that is high energy and there are way to many twisting knee movements for me to get a good workout.. I cant do twisting knees at all. ( bad right knee )..

LOL, love it! :p

Tkglenn- I can remember when I was getting sober, about 6 months of struggles before I FINALLY said goodbye to it, I cut down tremendously in that time period but would still use when I got weak. The problem is that the pain the drugs (or alcohol) covers up is still there when the drugs aren't. It even got worse on some occasions. The problem is that the ROOT of the depression must be treated. In his case, what is causing the anger and the feelings that go along with it, letting himself FEEL what he is trying to mask, and that is honestly worst pain of it all. After my 6 months of forcing myself to be sober, and slipping up here and there - then I went total clean, and that first 6 months to a year were pretty hard too.
What helped me was to do new and different things with my time, staying busy and changing my routine, and staying away from the people I used with. And what also helped was my boyfriend, he wouldn't hear of it. It wasn't worth the trouble if I was going to lose him. Now, I have been clean 22 months, YES 22 MONTHS! It is very easy now to be clean, but it took a lot of work.
(Not trying to be preachy at all, just telling you how it went for me).
Oh yeah, and CONGRATS ON 1 DAY, that is awesome!

dgramie 07-01-2008 09:31 PM

Hi..just wanted to stop by and say hello and im hoping for a good loss this week. I have been eating enough fresh veggies i should have a loss!!
debi

amouse 07-02-2008 04:06 AM

I picked up my treadmill and it was broken. the box was stuffed and parts of the treadmill were sticking out of the box.. It had been opened before and been taped back up with brown tape.. when we opened i sawit had been used beofe the power cord was missing.. the book was missing and all the bits and pieces were unpacked.. the entire bottom of the treadmill was completley snapped off. and broken.. I was annoyed.. we opened the tready on the trailer tok 1 look at it and returned it to the store.. I rang thrm and they said just bring it back..

So i did and i got nothing but flack at the delivery door .. The lady said if i had a problem i had to ring the warrenty people.. i told i had just bought she didnt care ./. she said she would go find the repair lady .. i was pissed i started yelling.. told her i had just bought it once again. and she said i had to take it around in the store to the front desk .. the thing was 120 pounds.. you think im gonna be able to carry that through the mall up to kmart i dont think so.. ..

so we sat in theloading bay until there was a truck waiting to come in .. then she had no choice.. she got it off the trailer and gave me a note to go get my refund.. *******s.. its not fair nothing ever goes right does it ..

So i have nothing once again.. but i did get my money back .. Dad pulled apart the elliptical to see if he can fix it but its worn though its bearings and the axle is grinding up too.. the axle was a mess its had big grooves in it.. so there is nothing i can do about that one..

So now i have to wait until i can afford to get the nice elliptical i have on layby.. which is going to be a couple of months.. away.. lets hoope i can still lose weight without it..

momof4girls 07-02-2008 05:42 AM

Amy, that totally sucks!!! Im sorry! :(

jillybean720 07-02-2008 07:25 AM

I burned the turnip fries I tried to make last night--some cook I am! :dizzy: I did try the few that weren't completely black, though, and I wasn't repulsed, so I will try them again sometime :)

Mrs Snark 07-02-2008 07:38 AM

MmmMMMm turnip fries, that sounds good, I've never had those either! Must try!

Amy, what a bummer on the tready! Hopefully you can find a new one somewhere else!

vixjean 07-02-2008 07:44 AM

Amy- that totally sucks about the treadmill, they didn't have a new one to give to you?

I had a good weigh in this morning 160.7, it was great to finally see a 0 after that 6, not for long though. Trying for 1.5 lbs this week.

Mrs Snark 07-02-2008 08:11 AM

Yo, I had a wicked run this morning. The stars must have been all aligned and the spirit of my great-great-great-grandfather, a famous Seminole Indian chief known as "He Who Runs For Miles Effortlessly While Only Sweating A Little Bit And Passing Minimal Gas", must have been with me because I was seriously in the groove! When I got home and checked my Garmin, I had a couple miles in the 9:30 pace range, which is really lovely for me at this point.

This makes me feel happy.

Hopefulpinkangel 07-02-2008 08:23 AM

Amy-Sorry about your treadmill . . . don't let it discourage you!

Vix- Woo Hoo :carrot:

Josephine- Sounds like you had an awesome run . .. way to go!

I'm feeling good today. I had a rough time last night because by the time I got home from work and picked up my son, it was after 6pm and I was starving! Hubby and I both forgot to leave something out to defrost for dinner and it was really hard not to take the easy way out and have him pick up something for dinner. And to top it all off there was a box of leftover pizza in the fridge that hubby had picked up at his mom's house the day before. :( It took all I had not to eat that pizza . . . but I DIDN'T EAT IT!! :cb: I made dinner and stayed OP. I'm so proud of myself. It's a small thing, but it was huge for me. :D I'm going to work on being better about either putting something in the crockpot or making sure something is defrosting so making dinner won't take so long.

Mrs Snark 07-02-2008 08:31 AM

YAYAYAYAYAYAYA Jen!

Man, passing up that pizza was a Herculean Task and you DID IT!

:cheer3: :cheer3: :cheer3: WAY TO GO!!!!! :cheer3: :cheer3: :cheer3:

GirlyGirlSebas 07-02-2008 10:00 AM

Amy - So sorry about the treadmill.:(
Jill - So sorry about the fries.:)
Josephine - I had no idea you were related to such an impressive historical person! ;)

Today, I'm cleaning my house and packing for my trip. We're leaving for Florida today to pick up my DD's.:cb: I'm so excited. I'll be back on Sunday, so I'll be able to weigh-in. Keep your fingers crossed that I can manage a loss in the "no cook" zone. My in-laws eat out almost every night.

I'll be checking in periodically as I'll be taking my computer with me. Hope everyone has a great on-plan weekend.

:cheer3::cheer3::cheer3: GO BLUE! :cheer3::cheer3::cheer3:

mariarose 07-02-2008 10:23 AM

Amy-- that might be the worst customer service story I've heard!

krjpy 07-02-2008 10:25 AM

FINALLY, I posted a decent loss this week after a small loss, freebie, then another small loss, it was welcome.

I have plans to keep it up.

Mrs Snark 07-02-2008 10:34 AM

:carrot: Way to go Kelly, you've been working hard, nice to see you get the payoff you deserve!!! :carrot:

KimProbable 07-02-2008 10:36 AM

Amy - What a frustrating experience! Hopefully you'll be able to find something soon.

Vix - WTG on the weight loss!!

Jen - So proud of you for not eating the pizza! It sounds kind of like me and my bacon situation the other day.

Josephine - Glad to hear you had such a great run! I love those days. And I'm very impressed by your lineage.

Rhonda - Have a great trip!!

As for me, I'm feeling pretty good last night. DH and I went out for dinner alone last night and we went to our favorite East Indian place. They have a buffet with butter chicken to die for but I kept my portion small and half my plate was made up of some really nifty sprouted bean salads. I kept my dessert tiny too since I have a giant weak spot for the East Indian sweets and I felt just comfortably full by the time I finished my Chai.

Today I'm looking forward to making it to my group run for hill training. Now that soccer season is over I can start going to the Wednesday night runs which are hill training then intervals in a couple of weeks. I've only got 6 weeks til my race! I was looking into local races last night and there's a 10-miler in October that looks neat. I'm trying to figure out my long-term goals and how the plan of getting pregnant will influence my running.

Anyhow, off I go to get stuff done since it's back to reality today. DH is back to work today after being off since June 18th and I have so many items on my to do list that have been ignored!

mariarose 07-02-2008 10:37 AM

Does anyone have opinions/ideas on what is a good upper limit for fruit? I feel like I've been eating an excessive amount lately, but it is just so good! I'm fitting it into my calories, mostly by cutting back on whole wheat starches. But fruit still has a lot of sugar so... I don't know!
Today for instance I'll probably have
2 apricots (fresh, not dried)
1 kiwi
1 whole grapefruit
1 red pear
1 cup strawberries
Too much? OR does it just seem too much b/c I've been lacking in them for my whole life ;)
thanks!!

tkglenn 07-02-2008 10:50 AM

vix-yeah, i know it'll be hard and I can't expect him to stop completely....I really dont. I just feel that he should find something to do instead of drinking when he gets into his MOMENTS or to "calm" himself down. I told him that. I told him that he should find something to do. I told him go work on your truck or find a new hobby. Yesterday was day 2!!! We're slowly moving along nicele. He has been alittle grouchy but not how I expected him to be. We've been fighting for like two days but he finally calmed down....so far. He needs to find a new hobby. or find a second job. it's hard right now because of the summer and the bad economy.

Nothing much on my plate for today. Just trying to stay away from junk food. TOM still hasn't come and I'm bloated. There's no step class tonight at the gym so I'm bummed about it. I love step.

WEll, everyone have a wonderful day.

I wouldn't sweat it, I go through periods where I crave more fruit than usual, then later I'll be all about veggies. If you are enjoying it, eating varied stuff, and fitting them into your calories I wouldn't worry about it. If after several weeks you start eating fruit to the exclusion of everything else, then maybe reign yourself in a tad! :)

tkglenn 07-02-2008 11:11 AM

vix-congrats on the 22 months. it must feel great....

amy-sorry to hear about your treadmill. that sucks. the worst thing about it is the customer service. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if customer service was alittle sympthetic about it and would help you from the very beginning. It totaly sucks all the way around.

Nori71 07-02-2008 11:39 AM

Amarie - summertime is hard with all the wonderful tasting fruit! IMO your list didn't look scary. (It's not like you're polishing off an entire watermelon!! YUM!) I agree with the granddaughter of "He Who Runs For Miles Effortlessly While Only Sweating A Little Bit And Passing Minimal Gas". OMG, that was funny!

BTW - congrats on your running, Jo!!

Kelly - WTG on your impressive loss! I'm sure you're stoked about that!

Amy - I hope you find something else soon. You mentioned Billy Blanks TaeBo tapes. I think Jo recently tried them? I have a hard time with cardio-style dvd workouts at home for some reason, so I'm no help. If i use one at home, it's a pilates, yoga or conditioning type. Look at www.collagevideo[/]. You can see every known exercise dvd there!

Jen - THAT'S HUGE! I know how it is when you're tired and hungry. You get weak and eat things you vow to never waste calories on when you're in your right mind. You've got to feel to empowered standing up to pizza!! Woo-hoo!!

Rhonda - I bet you're excited to get your girls back! Have a nice trip!

Vix - You're almost out of the 160's!!! WTG!

Jill - Look at you trying new veggies! I may have to try turnip fries. Sorry they burned!

I'm gearing up for a couple road trips also. The weather is supposed to be nice the entire time. Not doing anything exotic. Just taking the girls to my sisters in Oregon and then a week over to my parents. Both places are healthy-food friendly, so no worries there. I will miss the gym and my weight training. Will do the push ups challenge and try to fit in some other body-weight type exercises. I don't leave for 2 days though. So today I'm off to some personal training. Recently Josh has been cruel to me during training. I like it, I suppose!:D

mariarose 07-02-2008 11:51 AM
Though I probably could... which is why I haven't bought a watermelon yet this summer!
When I was about 8 years old I ate over 2 lbs of white grapes in one sitting and got in big trouble with my grandmother, who was expecting them to feed about 10 people!

For most people, weight loss is a matter of calories consumed versus calories expended. For some of us, the types of food can make us stall or gain weight. Last year, I followed the Southbeach diet and managed to reverse my insulin resistance. However, I still have to be very careful. If I eat more than three whole grain servings a day or more than two fruit servings a day, my weight loss stalls or I gain despite my calorie count. If your body is sensitive to insulin spikes, try combining your fruit with some type of protein..ie, peanut butter, cheese, almonds, etc...this will help the spike to be more moderate and help keep your body from storing unnecessary fat. If you feel great and your weight loss is where you want it to be, then enjoy your fruit!

Shay 07-02-2008 12:59 PM

Amy--About Billy Blanks (Taebo). They are tough workouts and you will never get bored. I own bw 20-25 Taebo dvds/vhs tapes. My motivation to do them is another story. He's not great on cueing. Sometimes you do more sets than he said you would originally on one side and do the appropriate amount on the other side. I think this would bother many people. I don't care. This happens because he is talking and motivating you. Others are counting but they just continue to count and count....I don't like the music either. BUT...I do love Taebo. I've gained and lost weight a million times but a few years back when I got really serious I started with Taebo. I lost 60 lbs exclusively doing Taebo and watching what I ate. It's good for leaning you out. I really noticed it in my lower body area specifically hips and butt. You can also do abs without getting on the floor.

Vix--Congrats on the 22 days. What a great accomplishment! Good job on the weight loss also.

Kelly--Congrats on the weight loss!

Busy day here at work. I've been to two camps and a training already. I'm currently at lunch. I'm supposed to have a 1pm meeting but I don't see my other co-workers yet. I have to go visit another camp then do another meeting this afternoon then I am done with work.

I really need to get back to exercising. Same s*** different day with me. I will not fail myself when it comes to this 10K. So I will start my training program again. It was supposed to be four of us signing up for the 10K but the 4th girl has yet to sign up. She keeps giving excuses. I guess she may miss the sign up. At least there will be 3 of us. Gotta go. I will check back in later.

chellez 07-02-2008 02:07 PM

Results are up! Sorry for the delay... I have some serious ADD lately

Thank you for that post, Rhonda. You touched on a lot of the things I was concerned about. I was diagnosed as insulin resistant at 140 lbs, but when I got down to 130 I got retested and my numbers were normal. But I still want to be careful, you know? I like the idea about pairing fruit with a protein!!

mj5 07-02-2008 02:49 PM

Hi everyone! I thought I would take a few mins and get a little bit caught up...

Amy--That really stinks!

Jo--Awesome job!

Vix--YES!!!

Jennifer--Great job! I find that taking something out of the freezer for the next day while I am making dinner helps me remember.

Rhonda--Have a great trip! I know you will do fantastic while you are away!

Kelly--Great job!

Kim--Great job at dinner last night! Have fun on your run.

tk--Good for you!

Nori--Have fun on your trips!

I have been doing really well w/ eating op. Water could be better, but isn't bad overall. I am going to the gym for legs/back and cardio tonight.

mj5 07-02-2008 06:19 PM

Wow, it really got quiet this afternoon! I am back from the gym and did my planned workout! I feel really good!

Doragone 07-02-2008 07:21 PM

Nori - you're coming my way? I've got lettuce and garlic! And room to spare. I'll be home 7th and 9th of next week. Let me know.

Vix - 22 months is awesome!!! No wonder you look so happy! Congrats on seeing he 0 too, I'm looking for that 220 - it's getting close.

Tawny - so glad to hear you spoke out and he seems to be responding.

Jen - way proud of you resisting the pizza!!! To repeat an old saying, "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels". You're on your way.

Jo - Your family had really long names . . . it's always fun running "with" you.

Rhonda - good luck in the no cook zone. Maybe you'll be so enraptured with your girls you won't be thinking about eating so much. Good luck.

Kelly - whoo hoo on the loss - blue team kicks butt. And thanks for making us all think about the exercising we are or are not doing. We need that kick in our butts.

Amy - that WAS the worst customer service ever - I'd write to corporate. Sometimes this pays off in coupons. Tell them a lot of women heard about it on the internet - that'll put the fear of God in them that the whole world will know about their store!!!

Anna - thanks for the encouragement on my loss. I wish I was where you are, though.

Well I just looked at the results and Black Team lost TWICE as many pounds as we did!!! We DO need to exercise, my self included. Does anyone know the overall totals, like who's lost the most totally per team? I'll kick it up a notch, how 'bout it b-losers????

Visit with my church friend went well, had veggies with a yogurt, cucumber, dill dip, then finished the visit with strawberries in cream (fat free half and half) with a touch of cinnamon and vanilla. Yummmmmmy! My new favorite treat.

Later in the day, went with new neighbor friend, Judy from China, and went to another neighbors house to harvest some wisteria that are growing wild. Had to do some actual nursing work today, miss working in the yard, and due to our lackluster numbers this week, I'll be sure to workout tonight. That's it for me.

Dora
