I have not heard of fitflops before... now I've got to check these out! Are they comfortable?
  • There's a thread about them in the "does it work" forum.
  • Quote: I was reading today on Collagevideo that a lot of people hurt their knees doing TBL workout from all the lunges/squats.

  • Hello Black Team!
I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I just wanted to check in real fast. I just got my homework done, so now I need to go workout again and get dinner cooked. I did 4 fast miles of WATP this morning....wow, what a workout! Left me totally exhausted, lol!
Speaking of working out, there is another post here that I want to respond to, but I need to go hunt for it....
  • Quote: I was/am so shy, and I'd taken a total of three different classes before I found one that I wanted to take. The other classes were probably fine, physically, but the instructors would make me feel uncomfortable and hover over me the entire class. I know that they were just helping me because I was a beginner, but I was the biggest person in the class and the last thing I wanted was someone shining a spotlight on my inability to work out well. But then one year I had a really stressful semester at college, and it seemed like either school or work or something else was taking up every spare second of my time, and I just needed to do something that a. that made me not so stressed out, and b. was just something for me. I'd heard good things about yoga in those aspects, so I decided to try out the yoga/pilates class that my Y offered at six in the mornings once a week. The teacher I had for that class recognized that the last thing I wanted was for someone to be hovering and unless I was doing something that would cause damage, she pretty much let me be. She kept cajoling me into taking other classes and finally she succeeded, mainly because it was her, and another girl in our PiYo class who taught the other classes. What's even more awesome is that I'm willing to bet that the woman who subbed for the kickboxing class last night would have been a hoverer but because I'm not really out of shape any more (do you know how cool it is to realize that?!) except for my weight, and because I'd done kickboxing already, I was able to keep up and do most things correctly to the point where the instructor came to me after the class and told me how impressed she was.

So I say that if you really want to do the classes, just keep trying them out until you find a class/an instructor that you like, because it really does pay off.

Lol, thanks Andi and Bailysmomma, I gotta admit, I'm way proud of myself. But I was way tired last night after all, and I pretty much crashed on the couch and didn't want to move after my shower. But it was a good tired.

I really want to do that! Would they let me go sit in on a class before I join to see if it's something I would like? I looked online, and they have a few cardio classes but they don't specify as to how high the intensity is, or whether you need to be "advanced" or anything. I wish I wasn't so self conscious, lol.
  • Honestly, for me if I chose to sit out and watch, it would make me feel more self-conscious than actually getting up and trying it, unless I was looking in through a window into the room. But that's me. And at my gym there really isn't a place to sit in the aerobic room. But you know what makes you comfortable. You could get there a little bit early and talk to the instructor about what you would have to do. If your gym has classes and work-out equipment, you could pass it off like you were meaning to do the machines, but you were just passing by and were thinking of doing a class at one point, and what did their class consist of. Then if you don't like the sound of it, you could just keep on going to the machines (I've done this, and yes, I really am that shy). You could also check to see if there is a new class. At my Y, whenever there is a new class, or an old class at a different time, the instructors assume it is a beginner class and start at the bare bones unless they see differently from the class members. You could also ask at your gym's desk if they have one (the place where they would have membership information and that sort of thing) if there is a beginner's class. There's one at my Y, but I was always at work or school when it was scheduled. It is slow paced, from what I understand and it teaches you some basic aerobic moves and how to get into the swing of things so you don't feel like you are going into a regular class half-cocked.
  • Oh man, I had Tae Bo years ago. I was doing pretty well the first couple weeks. Then, during a workout I literally PUNCHED myself in the jaw. An uppercut to be specific. Oh.My.Word. it HURT. So, I threw Mr.Banks & his violent exercise away. LOL I have Slim in 6. It works, but I cannot keep up with it at all right now. LOTS of walking in place. *sigh* Oh well, least I am moving I guess.
  • I made it through the whole Biggest Loser workout #1. Warm up, Low impact (yeah ok) workout, and cool down.
  • Quote: There's a thread about them in the "does it work" forum.
Cool, thanks!! I'll have to check it out!
  • realitymom: I did something very similar with those Tae Bo tapes. Needless to say they have not been used since that time! Haha!

Baileysmomma: Congrats on making it through the whole video! I haven't tried those videos but I'm sure they are quite the workout!
  • I keep forgetting to do this . . . .

What is your weight loss and exercise plan:
For the first time, I'm not following a plan. Since my biggest issue is overeating, that's what I'm going to avoid doing. I will make sensible eating decisions. Nothing fried, battered or otherwise deadly. Note to self: French fries are not a vegetable!
In addition to bellydancing once or twice a week, I will be going to the gym 2 or 3 times a week. I will walk around the block at work at least twice a week. I have to measure the distance, but I think it's a full mile or close to it.

What are your goals during this process:
My goal is to get healthy. I had a scare this past week and thought I might be in the beginning stages of a cardiac episode. My EKG's were normal, but my BP was up and my cholesterol is high. I've been seeing / hearing things that remind me of my father lately who died the day before his 41st birthday of a stroke over 25 years ago. Signs, omens, reality. I've been kicked in the butt and I am now paying attention.

    Go BLACK Team!!
  • I feel great after today's workout! Turbo Jam BABY!! Awesome, awesome, awesome!! Fat Blaster plus two other high energy workouts helped ease the guilt. I had a gig last night (I sing in a band) where they fed us a really nice dinner beforehand and drinks were free. Needless to say, I had two Bloody Marys and a Filet Mignon. I felt horrible all night and promised myself that I would work extra hard today. I needed some sort of celebration anyway for finally getting off that stubborn plateau!!
