Thumbs up Friday - Anne Frank gets her diary as a birthday present (1942, Amsterdam)

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Walked, CREDIT moi, making a point to pass by my favorite BBQ restaurant. Folks were standing outside, socially spaced. I could smell the ribs smoking. Probably not a sane way to stay on my plan, LOL. Found more houses that I'd never seen before. City streets hide many secrets. Rain started before I got home. Had the wonderful memories of walking in the rain; knew I wouldn't melt and that dry clothes waited for me at home. Alas, to my DW's dismay, it fizzled after a few drops and I didn't even need to change my shirt.

Eating was on plan with no daytime snacks, CREDIT moi. Dinner inside due to the continued threat of rain. Again, salad mostly composed of lettuce from our garden. Each different lettuce from our garden tastes different. Each lettuce from the store bought package tastes the same. Don't know if that's real or just pride of our stuff.

Joy (gardenerjoy) - Congrats for acclimating to Zoom meetings. I tire of them. Kudos for being on track with your monthly exercise goal.

maryann - Congrats on those 10 pounds in the 86 days. Clothes that fit are just the best.

Karen (karenrn) - Sad to hear about the decreased wearing of masks. Your state's numbers are front page in my newspapers; we're trying to ease back to life without totally abandoning good practices. It does seem that folks want to believe that it's all over.

curlyjax - Kudos for avoiding a tempting calzone. Glad your hip is better; here's hoping for 100%.

Penny. - Wondering how you'll deal with your tickets to the concert if you don't go. To a friend, "Would you like tickets to a concert we're not attending because we don't want to die?"

Yesterday I woke up early by accident and followed Maryann's example by taking a walk early. It was beautiful out and felt great to get my exercise out of the way, especially since it was due to rain later. I think I will do that on the days I naturally wake up earlier. Also i'll have to get in the habit of making time to water the garden such as it is, in the morning, on the really hot days. I ate a lot of healthy stuff and kept feeling hungry which I staved off. I need to figure out some snacky protein sources other than cheese, hummus or boiled egg. Maybe get some lentils cooked. It just occurred to me I could make a rice and beans dish tonight for dinner which would be good, I think that will be the plan. I got into some choc chips yesterday but didn't go overboard.
It's interesting to read the various ideas and concerns about opening colleges up in the fall. I will know the plan by July 15 and maybe even by the end of June. It's looking like a combo of online and in person, with dorms at half capacity. It sounds like the freshmen might be given housing preference, and my junior DD is fortunately off campus in an apt, but that will be a nightmare to figure out. So glad I don't work in higher ed right now!
Ack, its late, personals tomorrow.

Good Morning, Coaches.

Yesterday I pretended to be a gardener. We have had landscape guys doing our yard for twenty years but the last one quit several months ago. He wasn't pruning anything anyway. DH mows the lawn but that was it. Our yard has great bones and a good watering system but it was just getting jungle-like. So I played the "set the clock" game with myself and promised to spend two hours in the morning to see what I could do. It took me the first half hour to identify two plants (Agapantha and White African Iris) so that I could learn how to prune them. DH had assembled all the necessary tools. I put aside my fear that I would be like a kid playing hair stylist (we all know what self-cut bangs look like) and became engrossed in the work. It was quite thrilling actually. I pruned a bush into a tree and uncovered an entire 3 foot iris plan hidden in it. I spent six hours out there and was EXHAUSTED. I have so much admiration for the tough physical labor my boys do. So I have been instructed to not do any more limb cutting until DH can cart away what I have already trimmed on to tarps. Today will be two hours of raking and sweeping.

Food was OP. I will roast up a a pound of frozen cauliflower which won't last a day here.I have also committed to working on my steps in OA.

Good to hear from everyone. Walks seem to be a major theme all around and I will join everyone tonight since I have to use the cool morning to work outside.

Today's excitement is that the dealer fetched our truck from the driveway to take to the shop for an oil change and state inspection. I could get used to that kind of service!

I'm dealing, more than usual, with hunger sensations. I'm still very bad at distinguishing between real hunger vs thirst or desire for a break or frustration or low energy (caused by allergies, not hunger). I suspect that the strength-training over the last few months has raised my caloric needs a bit. So, it's a constant balance between how much I want that to be a valid reason for more food and how much I want that to give me a caloric deficit for weight loss.

We've already had one short walk and will probably do another later. Day 22 of the 30-day yoga training that has helped me build muscle is on the schedule for today. I've been doing this in fits and starts (and starting over, several times) since the beginning of the year. It looks like I'll make it through Day 30 in June, by completing a session every other day.

Exercise: +40, 545/1400 minutes for June

Good afternoon coaches,

I didn't fall asleep until nearly 1 a.m., so didn't do a walk alone, but did walk Otis this morning. Then I had to get ready to go to my friends, with a stop for gas on the way. Getting ready is not a quick process these days. We have a tentative plan for our backpacking trip, including the drive over and where we will stop for the night each of the eight days on trail. It was good to get together and makes it very real. Not only that but I had a conversation with my sil last evening and my nieces wedding is a go. I was worried about going with our numbers here, but she said come. I think with all that to think about last night, I couldn't go to sleep. Food was on plan and weight is holding.

Personals tomorrow.

Thumbs up Saturday - Pioneer 10 became 1st spacecraft to leave the solar system (1983)

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Real life doctor's visit! Actually the eye doctor. My regularly scheduled appointment was overdue so they scheduled me to come in. The day before, I was called to answer six questions of the sort: "Do you have a fever? Dry cough?" It's an easy ride on the subway but I'm not ready to get back on the subway just yet. So I drove in and, with the help of three different policemen, found a place to park within yards of the office door. Walked in to a darkened reception area. The desk that usually hosts the cheerful receptionist directing all to everywhere was empty. Eerie. A person appeared from the dark asking me from behind her mask why I was there. More like a challenge. After I assured her that I had an appointment, "Sit here; someone will come down to escort you upstairs." After ten minutes, an escort appeared. At the eye doctor's receptionist, I was not given the usual check in sheet. Both the initial examiner and the oculist wore masks as did everyone else, including me. After reading A Z X P 0 5 2 on the wall for the zillionst time, my eyes were dilated. "Normally you're sent back to reception for the fifteen minute wait for this to take effect. New procedure is to wait in that chair." So I did. Was examined with his face less than a foot in front of mine. Declared able to leave and did. Just felt strange the whole time.

Eating was on plan with no daytime snacks, CREDIT moi. Dinner on the patio was the leftover two slices of pizza; I made my salad in a bigger bowl to compensate. Walked, CREDIT moi, past a Tesla Model X ($$$$) and past a Tesla Model S with dual motors and large battery ($$$$). I drooled. Was aware of my privilege as I walked around both of them to examine them closely and no one complained.

Joy (gardenerjoy) - That's seriously good service. I presume you drive a Lamborghini or such. It is a challenge to figure out what the body really needs.

maryann - Six hours is a lot of time working your garden. I was surprised that DW read a book on how to prune. Apparently, it's a science unto itself.

Karen (karenrn) - Ouch for enough on the brain to interfere with sleep. So glad that the backpacking trip remains on your agenda.

curlyjax - Kudos for "kept feeling hungry which I staved off." Yep, I'm glad that I'm not in charge of figuring out how to make a college work in 2020.

Penny. - Sadness for the lost concert. Kudos for making a decision.

If you are tempted to take the partial cookie left on a tray in the office kitchen, you think: No, I'm not going to have it ... Remember yesterday when I turned down the coffee cake, and I felt really good about it? I did it then, so I know I can do it now.

Good Morning, Coaches.

BBE: Why did you need three policeman to help you get to town? Are they escorting people into different places?
gardenerjoy:I have to get back to yoga. My muscles are stiff. Why do I keep drifting away from it?
Karen: That is very exciting about your hiking. I think my "seven nights trips" are long gone. I am more of a two night gal now.
Penny: Sorry about the concert.

Yesterday was OP. I only worked outside for a couple of hours. The wind was not helping while I was sweeping. I'll do more today. I read two books in a mindless romance series ( embarrassing) and I borrowed the third from the library. It is an audiobook so it will be easy to spend lots of time outside,. The weather is unbelievably cool - high of 75. We almost never have humidity here so it is a genuine spring day in the middle of summer.

Excitement for today is to meet SIL and DN at the ranch for dinner. DS is turning 18 and it is a nice surprise to see them. I will not be having cake.

I slept in to 8:30 today, it was wonderful! It feels late now since i've been just drinking coffee and perusing the internet- but i don't have any real plans today so why does it matter. I need to get to the PO and bank before 12, everything else can wait. I was looking at an acquaintance's FB page I know who lost a lot of weight and kept it off, and it is inspiring. I did get into the ice cream yesterday- I know it will be easier in the fall when the kids treats are out of the house. On the plus side, I called up an older friend last night and we went for a walk since it was such a lovely summer evening. I am sneaking in a little exercise too as I talk to my clients on the phone so every bit helps.
Karen- so glad your backpacking trip will go on. I forget where your niece's wedding will take place.
Maryann- that yard work sounds very fulfilling. The nice thing about it is it will last a long time, and you can see the results of your work. Plus its great exercise. Happy Birthday to DS!
Gardenerjoy-wow, I have never heard of an oil change like that, how awesome!
Penny-yay for onplan. I know, i missed two shows this spring because of this. One is rescheduled for next April, I hope i remember it!
Bill-yay for real eye doctor visit. I hear you, i'm not taking public trans for awhile, I may not go into Boston at all this summer for anything.

Good morning!

Yesterday was on plan and weight is holding.

It was a close call last night, with lots of thoughts about eating. I pulled up my Beck advantage reminder note and was able to move past it. Whew!

Have a great day, everyone.

Good morning coaches,

I got up and out the door at 6 a.m. for an hour and fifteen minute walk. Even though I was listening to a book, just walking goes much more slowly for me than hiking. I know it is what I can do right now though. I'm looking forward to getting my stitches out on Tuesday because they are kind of itching. My friend who had a similar surgery with the same surgeon says my thumb will look like a burned Kielbasa sausage. I'm not looking forward to seeing that, but I won't for long cause then they'll put a cast on it. I didn't actually write a plan yesterday, but food was on the plan I would have written. Plan is written for today. The highlight of my day will be when Ron washes my hair in the laundry sink. The grey is growing in, but depending on the day it seems a lot more is brown than grey. I'm thinking I may not go back to the hair stylist for awhile. I can cut my bangs and the rest does't seem to matter much.

Penny Super kudos for getting through the urge. Building your resistance muscle for future urges is the way to go.
Curlyjax My niece's wedding will be at a winery at Lake Chelan, WA. We will drive up in two long days and I'm not sure exactly what our plan will be.
Maryann Your weather sounds perfect. Enjoy every minute of it! We'll see how this backpack goes. It may be the last of the long ones for me too, but I want to continue with Grand Canyon trips.
Bill I agree those fancy Tesla's are beautiful cars. We have lots of very high end cars around here. I'm always surprised to see them parked at the trailhead. My husbands boss just got a Lamborghini SUV . . . crazy.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Our truck returned safely this morning. Since we went to all that trouble for a safe experience, we haven't actually touched it, yet.

To answer BillBlueEyes' question. This was our GMC truck. I was kind of surprised they offered this service, too. I had an email from the Infiniti dealer in April offering valet service. I drive a 12-year-old Infiniti that we bought used -- one of the nicest things about it is the quality of service that I get at the dealer. The GMC service has never been as impressive, but apparently this is working for them. We didn't get our truck back last night because all of their drivers were busy. I think there's a new job category in our region -- driver for automobile service departments.

I had back-to-back non-scale victories this morning.

First, DH mentioned that he could tell I was losing weight when he hugged me.

That made me brave enough to try on a pair of size 16 trousers in my closet. I've been wearing size 20 jeans to walk and go to the store, even though they are hanging off of me. I don't own anything in size 18, apparently. I wanted to look a little nicer today for our first vigil in months (wearing masks and spaced six feet apart), so I tried the smaller pair and they fit! I think the reason that I don't own size 18 trousers is because my body never stays at that weight very long. It's probably time to get rid of the size 20s and commit to size 16 for the foreseeable future.

Exercise: +80, 625/1400 minutes for June

BillBlueEyes: Good to hear all the precautions at the eye doctor. DH put off his appointment, but MiL needs to go, in person, to the retinologist this week. She's insisted on doing it on her own. I'll ask DH to chat with her about what difference there might be.

Thumbs up Sunday - Group of U.S. settlers in Sonoma proclaims the Republic of California (1846)

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Eating was on plan with no daytime snacks, CREDIT moi. Lunch was my favorite peanut butter, banana, and pecans sandwich on toasted whole wheat bread. Dinner was DW's special chili made with 13 bean soup mix and genuine dead cow beef. I actually walked down to a corner store attempting to buy a baguette to go with it. That failed. The corner store had no baguettes, but did have latex gloves in four sizes and various sanitizing substances for sale. Sobering sign of the times. We dawdled on the patio after dinner; one cluster of peonies has been trimmed away because they had become too fatigued. Goodbye red peonies. The white cluster next to it isn't that far gone yet. We'll keep enjoying it. Salad greens all came from the garden. I, again, made mine in a larger bowl.

Walked, CREDIT moi, to explore more places. Talked to a neighbor - from a distance - about living with her 9 yo and 11 yo. They're surviving. She notes that she's glad that her DD is 11 - not 13, LOL. Found three Chevy Volt hybrid electric cars that I didn't know about. The Volt has a gasoline engine that is not connected to the drive train; it only drives a generator to recharge the traction battery - just like a diesel locomotive on all trains. Fun discoveries.

Joy (gardenerjoy) - Congrats for getting your truck serviced with so little effort on your part. And Congrats also on your trousers NSV.

maryann - I needed three policemen giving me directions to get around a major new construction project that blocked all the familiar streets leading to the clinic. It was a maze. Happy Birthday to your DS with Kudos to you for celebrating without eating the cake.

Karen (karenrn) - Good that you have a date for getting the stitches removed. Amazing that you can cut your own bangs - even with one hand. Yep, Lamborghini SUV sounds crazy to me, too.

curlyjax - Neat to have an acquaintance whose weight loss is inspiring.

Penny. - Kudos for using your Beck Advantage reminder note.

You don't struggle. It isn't painful to turn down food because you've proven to yourself over and over that you can. Good morning coaches,

Food was on plan yesterday, This morning's exercise was a walk with Otis and dh. It was short, but I enjoyed it. My food plan is made for today.

Bill Okay smarty pants, so it won't be me cutting the bangs . . maybe dh. I really do miss the use of my hand. Dinners are getting boring without more things cut up and different recipes.
GardenerJoy It feels so good to fit into smaller clothes. Good job getting there. I'm sure there are a lot of people who will be quite dismayed when they have to put on their button pants again.

Have a great Sunday all of you!

Good Morning, Coaches.

DS early bday dinner was beautiful out on the ranch. DS and DN rode four-wheelers and did target shooting while SIL, DH and I chatted. Lovely evening. I remained sugar free but had too large portions. It is obviously a pattern that I do not have the skills to go to a party without keeping portions large. I have been on a run of successful because I stay home so much. So I need to write about what happens to me when I am away from homes. One thing I know that happened was I hit a "blue patch" at about 11 a.m. before I even went there. I also know that family triggers me. In both last weekend and this weekend there was family. I don't feel like I can stop eating even if it is healthy. I am also not very good at small talk. Maybe eating is something to do.

Today I have a written food plan. I worked in the yard for a bit. Maybe I will stop eating early and then wait my six hours before I take a walk. I still feel the last of the "blues."

Wave to all.
