I have a couple of pair that were my sister-in-law's in the 60's. I think he may have to sew his own. Unless you have any retro second hand stores near you. Otherwise, you'll have to drive up to Ottawa. :D

We do, but so far no luck on the pants. Lots of great shirts though!! You should have seen him in this Morrocan shirt he wore to his last "Gig." Black tunic with white embroidery at the sleeves, and down the front opening. He has another one coming up too!! They will be playing at a local festival that a church is putting on.

You might check on Ebay...search under the key words "hippy, rave, raver, and punk" because that is the sort of clothes that will come up...you may want to search under "vintage" as well...and then type in bell bottoms or flare along with one of the other words...if you have a Salvation Army thrift store that is also a good place to look...and old people's rummage sales...Goodwill stores are usually more selective about what clothes they sell-so the good vintage stuff they don't put in their stores...just newer items.
Hope that helps...it is also possible if you sew to make him some using one of the hippy Halloween patterns...

Good ideas!! I DID sew an insert into some old jeans of his one year for Halloween. I could do that again. Beyond that I am NOT much of a sewer!!!

Speaking of fashion police, Montreal seems to have toned down a little. I was looking forward to the usual outrageous and inappropriate (which is kinda cool, actually :D ) when we went for our holiday this summer, but I was disappointed. Maybe Ottawa is becoming less conservative? No, can't be.

dentrassi 08-24-2003 09:45 AM

Nah....you just get to a point where you have seen it all. Like the kids around town who spike their hair and try to act cool.....PEOPLE WERE DOING THAT 25 YEARS AGO!! I mean, if you want to wear your hair that way FINE, but don't act like you invented it.

aphil 08-24-2003 12:06 PM

Yeah...and I like how these same kids act like all of these songs are totally new...when all of us older folks know that half of these songs are either heavily sampled or a complete cover...I really like cover/sampled songs a lot of the time-but these know it all 15 year olds think their favorite rapper/singer wrote it themselves and that it is brand new...funny how us "old people" know so many of the words or the complete melody, huh?
Missy Elliot uses a TON of music samples from old Beastie Boys albums...Vanilla Ice Doing Ice, Ice Baby (Under Pressure by Queen)...the newer version out with Moulin Rouge of Lady Marmalade...gosh there are so many...my favorite just because it was SO FREAKIN RIDICULOUS was that that song out by Shaggy a couple of years ago...the remake of that old late 70's/early 80's song...I think it was by Juice Newton..."Angel of the Morning" or something like that...the new version was a hoot. I couldn't believe he tried to make an "I'm in prison, but my baby is sticking by me" song ROMANTIC. And how romantic can a song be when it uses the phrase "Closer than my PEEPS you are to me, baby..." and how he is "showing his appreciation when you where there through his incarceration..." (Hey, I was impressed that he could rhyme something with incarceration.)
Oooh, the romance.

Yeah not only that but Shaggy is thanking this "stand by your man woman" and surrounded by a bevy of scantily clad women at the same time - what the Heck :?:

You said it Den! A few years ago I was walking by some punk kids ( ripped jeans, dog collars, spikey hair and wearing Ramones and Sex Pistols t-shirts) and one of them yelled "Fashion-punk!" at me. I looked down my nose at him and snidely said "Well at least I liked the Sex Pistols when they were all still alive!" :p

And a lot of us were goth before it was given that name- Marilyn Manson did not invent that either! And I really hate it when people walk by me and my husband and make comments about us looking like refugees from the Matrix movies- Hello! We were doing this since the 80"s-where do you think they got the inspiration for their clothing from? New Wavers, punks and Goths not to mention the Fetish scene!

ellis 08-24-2003 05:27 PM

Snort. Good one, Mauvais!!

aphil 08-25-2003 10:25 AM

Yeah...and I loved Lord of the Rings BEFORE it was a movie and actually owned the books-even "The Hobbit"...and I liked grunge music before the movie "Singles" came out and wore a lot of black before "The Matrix" as well...
My husband wore rockabilly swing types of clothes UNTIL it became popular and you could buy lounge singer styled shirts at Wal-Mart.
I actually wore Birkenstocks in high school 10-12 years ago and got made fun of all of the time for my "Jesus shoes" and two years later everyone had their "fake versions" for $9.99 at Payless Shoe Source. When they are not made of the right materials and the footbed is not correct, it sort of takes the whole "good for your feet" purpose out of wearing them.
GGGRRR...
I had got my first tattoo before any girl I knew...before every Britney Spears wannabe was getting the "cute little butterly" on their ankle...
Heck-these young punks want Goth? I love Marilyn Manson-but you are right-he didn't invent it. Let's see...I believe the Munsters and the Addams Family debuted when tv's were still black and white.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Mauvais-I love your comment to those little punklets.....

dentrassi 08-26-2003 08:34 AM

GRRRR!!!!!! I checked out bell bottoms on ebay, told DS16 about them, and his response was, "I don't want THOSE any more." EXCUUUSE ME!!!

ctagmire 08-26-2003 08:46 AM

mauvaisroux - I think the "fashion punk"-thing is what you become when you realize you can't go around wearing dog collars forever! In the end we are all fashion punks...and I am proud of it. I think it is so funny because kids like that think that their style is going to last their whole lives....I had two girls (they were 16, I am almost 24) try to pick a fight with me at a show last week because I wasn't going to sit down and I shouldn't be there because I am not a PUNK and I am not "cool enough". Well little did they know I am friends with all the band members and had the same nose thing they had before they even were out of elementary school......I even had been to that place like one hundred times and the bands they listen to now are mostly good friends of mine..and they had my band's pin on their bags....and it's obvious I was the lead singer!

ellis 08-26-2003 09:22 AM

Damn that DS16, Den!

I would like to report a fashion crime...unfortunately it's me.

Last night I had on shorts that were too big, A tank top with hudge arm holes so that the twins poked out either side, then to top it off I got a little chilly (we have a/c fights don't ask) so I put on a fleece pajama top. DH must really love me, I looked like a bag lady! When I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror it scared me.

We call them wooby clothes, ya know the ones you knock the house in, they are all comfy and worn out. I am seriously gonna have to work on getting some new ones. What a sight thank GOD there wasn't a fire I would have hated for anyone else to see me like that hehehe.
