Wow, I am enthused by everyone's success. I just got home from eight days straight out of town, working. That's usually a terrible time for me, lots of business dinners and wine and all that. But I was really strict with myself, and I came home to find I had lost two or three pounds, so I am thrilled. I also read - well - listened to an audio book that was very, very powerful. I listened to this book twice on my one week trip - every time I had down time, or even at the hotel at night, I would listen. It's made me think that this time I'm really going to do it. It's called, "The Willpower Instinct" by Kelly McGonigal. Just fantastic.

One thing that stood out from the book - well - there are so many many things to think about, so much information from science that is there to use in this quest - but one thing I'm thinking of now is this: A person's enthusiasm and commitment to their goal at the begining is not an indicator of success in any way! However, measuring what someone does when they go off their program (diet, in my case) how they respond to the lapse, by getting back on the next day, avoiding negative self-talk, but getting right back on - that is the greatest indicator of success. The other thing I learned was to ask myself each day, "Am I committed to my goal?" That was a good tip.

There's also a lot in there about not getting down on yourself for your past, or even for a lapse, but on the other hand, not congratulating yourself too much either! Just asking yourself, Are you commited to your goal? Simple. Avoid big up and down emotion on it.

I'm paraphrasing, of course. But I have to say I recommend this book. I feel very good about the whole endeavor right now.

Good job Jillie and Julia! Keep up the great work!!! Crimzon and Renee, you did good too not gaining any weight. I think we will all show some success this coming week. I can just feel it. We are all headed that way. :)

It's a scorcher of a week heatwise here. Very easy to get dehydrated. I was blacking out one day after a jog. Taking it easier now. I think I had low blood sugar. After eating some food, about 15 minutes later my vision was no longer blurry. Very scary. Otherwise, doing okay.

Renee3 09-24-2013 06:23 AM

Please take care of yourself, Corinna! Can you jog in the cooler part of the day? I think I am doing ok this week. Beautiful fall weather here. Just finishing up freezing veggies from the garden.

Howdy!

Happy to be catching up with all y'all are up to :dizzy:

Had company stop by our summer place along the Valley River here in western NC. We cooked trout, small steaks, grilled veggies, mushroom salad and trifle for dessert. :cp: I stayed within my calorie count for the day! :cp: I even made some roasted red pepper and garlic hummus as an appetizer with baked ritz crackers and I had 2 cockytails!

Had such a great time with this couple! They have seen me thru the darkest of times...when I suddenly lost both my husband and my son...and then when I had to have emergency spinal surgery almost immediately after my husband died. Can't begin to tell you how very wonderful it is to watch them bond with my new husband whom I met in grade school 50 years ago!

All's well in my little corner of the universe

Crimzon 09-24-2013 01:40 PM

Jillie - you've been through so much:hug:

Jillie422 09-24-2013 01:50 PM

Yes....it took me a while, but finally I learned how to live my life without them here with me in the flesh but next to me in Spirit. My Tommy is widowed as well, and the most precious gift we give each other is allowing each other to remember our late spouses out loud every day. When I call him Mike or he calls me Gwenie, we just laugh and say that they must be close by. Tommy also has grown children who love me and I do still have my son Brian's twin sister.

Hi Ladies! Hope your having a good week.

Jillie-glad you made it through the struggles of your life and can enjoy it and stay positive. I'm glad to hear you have some friends who hung in there with you through it all.

Renee-I decided to just take it easier, maybe just jogging once or twice a week in the early mornings. Thanks for your concern. How are you doing on your diet efforts?

Crimzon-glad to see you still on this forum. How are you doing this week?

I have been doing okay. Just taking it one day at a time. I will get there! We all will!! Day by day.

Jillie422 09-25-2013 09:45 PM
