Quick hola.... just checking in, which seems to be something foreign these days... I am the Empress of Ennui!

Cajun - are you LOVING having your son home? Is he home to stay, I hope?

KarenFL - your rant wasn't. It was common sense.

CarolSue - I had to chuckle delicately at your post. I related to your recipe hoarder description... I, too, LOVE recipes; however, I use very few because anything with more than 4-5 ingredients has too many ingredients!

Nothing going on. I'm glad it's Friday! It's still quite nice here, cloudy and cool today. I like this and am SO glad to live in Denver! The weather here is almost always better than anyone else's (!)... Yes, we have fires in the summer and a couple (if we're lucky) storms in winter; otherwise, it's really nice.

Hope you all have a good weekend. Later, lovelies!

Hi everyone -

I've composed 3 posts and I can't get my puter to "copy" anymore so I keep losing them. Thanks to everyone for wisdom, support and hugs. I have to figure out this darn computer. Hugs.

Hello Everyone!

I thought I would stop in here tonight because I have been neglecting you all. I have been having a crazy work week and I am in the midst of a Lupus flair. Fevers and sore joints.

Today was the start of the MT state 8 ball tourney. The team event started today and tomorrow starts singles. I asked that they take me out of the calcutta because my hands are hurting so much and I don't want anyone to bet on me. Typing doesn't bother me but I can't lift or carry anything. I had two table runs today but then I also had some horrible games. My team didn't win but we had fun. There are players here from all over the state and it was so much fun to see all my friends from all over. A young guy on my team said, "everyone hugs you!" It was really nice. There are some really nice people in pool. I am having a hard time picking up the balls and putting them in the rack. A couple of times today, one or another of the guys just walked up and put the balls in the rack for me. Aren't they nice? Of course, I always think I am hiding it from everyone....

Karen, I share some of your sentiment. We just don't have much in the way of disasters up here except for wildfires. We are always prepared for blizzards and loss of power. It happens alot. My friends always say that they will head for my place if the "end of civilization as we know it" happens. I have a reputation as a "prepper" and I have a lot of old-school tools, etc that will see my family through. Of course, that is also a farm girl mentality.

Cajun, I am so happy for you. And yes, the goldens are such a support.

Empress Donna (yes, you now have a new name from me) I always think how lucky we are to be up here near the rockies. Heaven!

Rosey, I love the new boots and I am totally jealous.

Gayle, yes, follow your own wisdom. Our children will use the lessons that we taught them.

Dee. . That is all I have to say...

CarolSue, I was tickled by your post. Us farm girls have our own world....LOL I laughed really hard at your description of the eau de fair time. Doesn't stink to me....

Carbie, I am so impressed with your home repairs. I can fix most anything but I am lousy at stuff in the house and I would never tackle any remodeling.

Bobbi, this winter we will have to start a wordswithfriends game. I only play in the winter. Enjoy your time. My DIL is back in grand forks, without ds and gabriel. She is lamenting how lonely she is.... I must be weird - I always enjoyed my "me" time. I miss Isabella too! I hope she is lurking here and doing ok.

Sorry for missing folks. This is it from my hands. Think about me tomorrow - wish me luck cuz I will need it. I will probably have to drink extra wine to stay in the games. It is a sacrifice that I am prepared to make!

Rie

Good evening (oops I mean morning) GG’s,

Well, it is still my evening. Head games ~ LOL. Not morning until I go to bed and then wake up.

Yippee ~ made it to the weekend. This stretch of days wasn’t too bad. Wish I had gotten out on time tonight though. Didn’t get my bicycle ride in. DS Jason was here ~ DH had been helping him with his yearly sign up for benefits at work stuff. DS was still here when I got home, so got to have a nice visit with him.

It was funny ~ DS called me on my way home ~ wondering why I wasn’t home yet and checking to make sure I was ok. Sometimes I am pushing on at work not wanting to stop even long enough to send a text to let them know I will be late, heaven forbid that I should take long enough to do that and delay my departure by even a few seconds ~ LOL. He said to me ~ why do I feel like the parent? Nice to know someone worries about me.

I needed to stop at Walmart on the way home for a couple grocery items. I was yaking with mom on the phone and missed my turn and didn’t even realize it until I was by my driveway ~ I didn’t even pull in, just kept going and headed back to Walmart. I would rather go while I am already out than to have to waste time tomorrow and make a trip back out.

I was talking with Mom and taking a trip down memory lane. One of my HS classmates passed away this week. Sad ~ so young. We have lost several already ~ too young. Thinking of him and other classmates brought back lots of fun memories of that time in my life.

Our HS class (the class of “73” ) is starting to make plans for our 40th class reunion. Wow ~ where has the time gone? Doesn’t seem like that long.

Still haven’t gotten the personals done as I had hoped to. Darn work ~ gets in the way of having fun. Oh well……

Guess I’d better get off to bed. Got a ton of stuff to do this weekend.

Hope you all have a good rest and a good weekend.

Take care

I'm sorry, but my mind must really be in the gutter today! LOL

Donna
, I understand about more than 4 or 5 ingredients. I start reading a recipe and get bored halfway through the list of ingredients and set it aside.

Cajun - So happy your son is home! Give him a hug from me.

Bobbi - Thanks for the heads up about the season fries. I will "lightly season". I do that with a lot of things. DH will only eat MY pumpkin pie because I use half the amount of spices called for in the recipe. My family loves it that way.

Gayle - You're such a youngster! My 50th reunion is next year. I have never attended one. A friend is trying to talk me into going, but they hang with the in-crowd....the cheerleaders and football players....they didn't know I was alive. We shall see. I might go, just to show them how great I turned out! LOL

My cardiologist visit went well. My Echo was good, translated to "The valve is still stiff, but has not worsened in the past 3 echos." He is not concerned about the palpitations and spiking heart rates but to be sure is going to have me wear a 30 day monitor. From what I've read online it will be a pain in the butt, but much better than spending time in ICU.

Good morning Goldies!
I was up a bit later than usual last night and must have fallen asleep rather quickly and I don't think I moved at all during the night. I slept hard, and was in the same position upon awakening as when I laid down. I feel really rested too.
Good thing because my youngest son and his family came down from the Twin Cities last night and will be in town for the weekend. Of course, they wont be at my house all the time though because they are staying at one of my other sons' houses and the guys are going deer hunting. The DIL's are going shopping, (and God knows what else!) Ha! maybe a couple of drinks while they're at it. The oldest grandson will be hunting with the guys, and the two 15-year olds are going to spend today with me. They're going to rake my leaves while I run my lawn mower out of gas (so it doesn't get gummed up) to store it for the winter, and I need to get my snow blower out and make sure it's in good running condition.

I'm just making hamburgers and fries for the boys for lunch. Maybe make pork chops for dinner tomorrow for everyone, depending on how early they get done hunting. I'm hoping that they all fill out today and have time to visit tomorrow before going back home, but, I know that's not likely.

Gayle, I can relate to the head games about it still being the same day as long as you're still awake. Ha! Working 3 = 11, I always had to wind down for a couple of hours before going to bed. One woman I worked with on 3-11 would drive home, clean up and be sleeping by midnight. I always had too many things to think through. Just in case I may have missed something. Ha!

Karen3, I'm in agreement with you about people getting prepared for these disasters. I think that they think these forecasters are exaggerating and it's not going to be really that bad.
We didn't even have electricity in our house until I was about 10 yrs old, and we used kerosene lamps for light and Mom cooked and baked with a kerosene cook stove. We used coal and wood for heat, and Minnesota had some wicked winters back then. We had canned vegetables from the garden and didn't worry about the meat because if we ran out, we had chickens, geese and ducks that we raised. Every once in a while the darned pump would freeze up and they'd have to pull the thing apart.
We kinda lived off the land, really. Hunting and fishing. I used to help Dad with the set lines, spearing carp and smoking them, then selling them. People, especially farmers, LOVED smoked fish so we sold a lot of it.
Dad worked, but he was a drinker too and sometimes would be gone on a drunk for a week or more. Now that I'm grown, I suspect he did more than drink during those absences. Anyway, I remember of us kids going up into the woods and snaking down fallen tree limbs and helping Mom on a 2-man saw cutting them up.
I digress, ... meant to say we were usually prepared for bad weather.

Rie, I didn't realize you have Lupus. My heart goes out to you with the flairs. One of my BIL's has Lupus and a girl I grew up with has it too. She had the butterfly rash on her cheeks and nose, but my BIL didn't. However, he had to wear a hat whenever out in the sun. (they're divorced now, hence, I say "had".
I never did learn how to shoot pool. I don't think I have the skill or the knack for it, plus, I gave up on my first try because a boyfriend chewed me out for flipping the ball right off the table on my first shot. I'm not one to give up so I suspect it wasn't of interest to me to begin with. I admire people who CAN do it. It has to take a lot of skill in my estimation. Anyway, I wish you luck in the tournaments.
As for home repairs, I think that developed out of necessity after my husband died. What puts me at a loss is anything mechanical. I'm borderline stupid with mechanics, mostly.

Dee, I hope you got your computer convinced to cooperate with you. That's another thing I'm not real good at. I understand a little more as time goes by, but it's a good thing my one son is brilliant with computers is all I've got to say. Ha!

Donna, I believe you about Colorado being so beautiful. I haven't been there but from news shots, and talking with people who have been there, I hear only good. Ennui? Maybe it's the SAD?

Hello Mayqueen60. WELCOME! Hope you stay. These ladies are so very nice! Tell us a little about yourself.

Carol Sue, my head was back laughing at the ceiling picturing you at the fair etc. I can picture you wheeling the trash out using thumb and forefinger with gloves on and holding your nose with the other hand. You are too funny! You could, and would do most anything if you had to. (But I'd sure love to be a fly on the wall watching it take place!) LOL

Bobbi, .... those games you play, ..... Are they free? And, how do you find them and how do you learn how to play them? Sounds like fun when the snow is blowing and I'm bored. And believe me, I need all the help I can get to improve my mind!

Rosey, RE: making yourself a top etc, .... That's what I'd like to do once I get this painting etc done in my house. I need some tops for winter especially. I also want to make myself some flannel pajamas, with feet in. My winter pajamas right now consists mostly of sweat suits.
Good job finding those boots.
I didn't realize your husband had had surgery. I hope he fully recovers and gets stronger. Thinking good thoughts for both of you.

Cajun, I know you're busy with your son being home finally. I hope you're enjoying your weekend.

Isabella, drop in and say "Hey!" I know you have to be a very nice person because everyone misses you so much. Hope you're having a great weekend.

Decorlover, Hope you're having a nice weekend.

Angela, where have you gotten to? Hope you're not too tired from all that running to stop in. Let us know how it's going.

I know I've probably missed some, but I need to get moving here. Haven't even dressed yet, plus I want to stop at the bank and the store before I go pick up my Grandsons.

Have a great day and weekend everyone! .....

Carol Sue ~ I went to our classes 10th and 20th reunions. They didn’t do one at 25 or 30 years. You might go and find that it is not as bad as you think. At the 10th year one ~ people talked to me who I don’t think ever talked to me during HS. It was like becoming grown ups was kind of a “leveler”. We were kind of all facing the same things ~ work, kids etc.

Even though I had that experience at the 10th year one ~ I still a little bit, feel like you. I was not one of the in crowd (more like an invisible person) and kind of feel like no one will even notice if I don’t go. I told one of my friends that I sort of wanted to go and was sort of chicken to go.

She said to me: Some of the stuff and junk we experienced as young graduates are gone. People are really anxious to reconnect and priorities change with age and life happenings so I do hope you do decide to come. Life is too short not to take opportunities to connect with people you know. Trust me. You don't know when it is your last time.

She feels that way I think ~ because she came home from church one Sunday to find her husband (in his 40’s) in his recliner and he had ~ with no warning ~ passed away.

@ your gutter mind comment.

Ok, I have played around too long already ~ I'd better get to busy. Hello to everyone else ~ I'm sure I'll need a break later so will check back.

Beautiful sunny day here ~ hope everyone else is having a nice day.

"Hey!"

It's not that I've got nothing to post, it's because I'm so busy these days (eating nightly for the last 2 months). Grrrrrr....all that hard work gone down the tubes...again. And I've forsaken my bike!!!! Actually, I've been keeping fairly busy this fall. I used to take my friend Ruth shopping a couple of times a month but now that's grown to my DIL's mother and my MIL as well. Those are marathon shopping trips which leave me drained the next day. Whatever happened to all my youthful energy when I could shop til I dropped? Now I drop when I shop!

Last month, we (my husband's family) planned my MIL's 80th birthday party. We had about 70 guests with family and friends. My SIL did the cutest teabag favors and I covered chocolate bars with new wrappers with MIL's picture and a thank you note for everyone attending. With gifts and money she raked in about $900. Not bad for someone who won't go to anyone else's parties.

Tonight our church ladies are hosting a baby shower for our pastor's wife. I've been doing some cooking and baking for that as well as planning games and prizes. Next month I, along with my DIL's mother, will be hosting a baby shower for my DIL. I also have a church Christmas musical program to plan and get practiced. I'm still singing at funerals and church benefit gospel concerts.

I go from periods of being no more active than a slug to being in a whirlwind of activity. I don't eat as much when busy but when I'm in the slug mode all I do is eat. I thought potato chips were my nemesis (which they are) but I've discovered I'm willing and able to eat through the cupboards and frig when nothing else is available.

Yesterday, I decorated the sweetest (literally) baby shower cake. It looks like a patchwork quilt with a pair of booties on top. I'll see if I can post a picture later on. I also made the most adorable baby girl and boy cookies for shower favors. I'll post those also.

Well, I feel better all ready just by writing this all down.

We're having unusually nice weather for this time of the year, although it's been raining for almost a week, it's been nice and mild.

I'm going to try and get on more often as it's good for me.

Love you all.

Hi Golden Girls - This is one of the posts I couldn't post. I'll add on.

You are a breath of fresh air. Thank you for all of your support and encouragement.A lot of people just don’t understand the difficulties of dealing with parents with Alzheimer’s/dementia - one of my closest friends, made me feel worse than anybody. She wasn't trying to. Someone said that it’s like a gradual, steady mourning because you are, in fact, losing the person that you have known and loved.

Carbie - thanks for the information and reassurance. I went for 3 days without calling my parents. Called yesterday and talked to my mom. Things are so-so. I guess that’s pretty good. I am going to give them time to adjust.

Cajun - so glad your son is home! Enjoy! Give him a hug from us and tell him that the Golden Girls were praying for him - and you. I hope they get to the bottom of that dangerous situation.

Karen FL - I would love to adopt you! You are brilliant and funny. You are, and always will be, sharper than I am! Oh, and your DH too. My DH gets grumpy sometimes and I say, "You are turning into a cranky old man." My son, who is the fire fighter made a comment about NJ. When the people who are told to evacuate, don't, they are putting the rescuers at unnecessary risk. I hadn't thought about that.

Gayle - hope your daughter is feeling better. It’s so good that you are there for her and Maddie. I love that your son was worried about you and felt like "the parent!" Adorable. How old is he? Is there any hope of my boys developing that trait? Of even knowing where I am? It's not looking good.

Bobbi, Donna, Isabelle - your lives are not boring! Actually, a few years ago when a friend asked me how everything was, I told her, “The same, nothing to report, kind of boring.” She was quick to contradict me but I told her, “I’m happy. Boring is good! It’s just I have nothing to report so it may sound boring but I’m not bored.” We really like to hear anything you wish to tell us. I might be a little worried about Isabelle. Have to read all the posts.

Rie - Hope you don’t have many cases of whooping Cough to deal with. I remember when my oldest was a senior in college, 2008 ?, his generation needed another booster for whooping cough. My youngest was home so I got him to the doctor. I kept calling and nagging the elder. Even sent him a news clipping about how he needed it. His school medical was giving them out for free. It would have been easy to do. Finally, I told him he had to come home for the weekend and get it. And it turned out his girlfriend had whooping cough already! I don’t like that I’m always right - it just happens so much! So he did get the booster shot and did not get WC. Do they think the kids need an extra booster? Good luck in the tournament. So sorry your hands hurt. Most important thing is you're having fun.

Carole Sue - so glad you weren’t hit by the storm.

Mary - your new picture is beautiful. It sounds like you’re doing a little better and have meds for it.

I was so down a few minutes ago. I need to find some joy and fulfillment. Maybe some volunteer thing, if this old body can handle it. Hugs, hugs, hugs to you all!!!

Carbie..come join me on Facebook. You can 'private message' me your name and I'll look you up. It's all free and if you like to play scrabble, you'll like all the scrabble games. The best part about them is you play when you feel like it. I play a word in the morning and one at night. Sometimes I get a word in at noon if I eat my lunch in front of the computer. We don't play a whole game at one time.

okay - I keep getting message that I'm not logged on 3fc. I wanted to try something fancy- quote part of Isabella's post but i Imessed that up.

Isabella - yes! It's not just the potato chips (or chocolate)> when we're in the mood, which for me is every night, anything will do as long as it's not a vegetable that is good for me! Good to hear from you.

Happy Sunday everyone.
My SIL is having a birthday dinner today, I've been on no dairy and no gluten for the past 4 days. It would be rude of me not to eat so I'll participate. I don't think I feel any different after being on the gluten/dairy program, not enough time yet?
Bruce came home early after my urging. Say What? He called yesterday morning, had a sore throat because the heater ran out of fuel and he darn near froze to death. He had more fuel with him but he was so cold he didn't want to get out of his sleeping bag. Then around noon he walked back from his deer stand to warm up in the truck. He heard sirens and saw many squad cars and flashing lights in the parking lot where 5 other vehicles were parked. (all hunters with extra guns/rifles and ammo, hunting gear, etc. in their vehicles.) The park ranger scared off a bunch of Indians who had vandalized 4 of the vehicles. They must have used a bat to smash through the windows, stripped all 4 vehicles of radios/cd players, all their extra guns, ammo, EVERYTHING. If the ranger hadn't come by, Bruce and one other guy's would have been next. Bruce was parked at the end, thank goodness. The young deer hunter parked next to him was from Minneapolis, loaded up and left. I urged Bruce to do the same, especially since he had a sore throat. The sheriff said all the Indians in the area think they don't have to obey the laws, they shoot game whenever they feel like it because it's their land. I suppose they thought they could help themselves to everyone's gear/guns and destroy what they wanted to. DH said they have a very big drinking problem up in that area, I'm sure the gear will be sold so they'd have some drinking money.
That would have been a very expensive hunt if his jeep was vandalized.
We have $500.00 deductible insurance and his spare rifle would have been gone too. Thank you Jesus was looking after Bruce!

Bruce is going to hunt around here, not as many deer but at least his vehicle will be safe.
Later gators.

Good Morning Goldies!
Oh my aching back and butt! I think I over did it yesterday. I think I'm so smart and able to do just about anything I want to, but I seem to prove myself wrong more and more often.
I "cleaned" my shed yesterday. Organized things, because I can't stand having to search for things. I want them right where I left them, and after a summer of fishing often with my one grandson, he put things back into the shed in a haphazard way and had winter stuff(shovels etc mixed with fishing poles and minnow buckets etc. So, now I have the grill, camp chairs, fishing poles, lawn mower etc all lined up on one side of the shed, rakes hung up, potting soil, hoe, etc in a group, and snow blower, shovels etc together on the other side, and floor swept nice and clean.
Also knocked down 2 small wasp nests. How do they build them so fast???
Couldn't get my lawn mower started so I'll take it to Jim, a guy who I have do yearly tune-ups on my lawn mower and snow blower. He only charges about $10.00 and it's worth it for a new filter, plug etc.
Anyway, when I got done with that I decided to start raking and by doing so maybe speed up the boys who were raking but doing a lot of girl watching too and I wanted to get it all done in one day. 4 hours of that and I was pretty sore. Took Ibuprofen a couple times yesterday and this AM, so I'm sure it will improve.

Did you all set your clocks back last night? We all know Karen3's were set back for her. I laughed so hard at your post. Such a helpful hubby.

Dee, good to hear that your parents are getting settled in a bit. It takes time, and you need to take a break too so you can de-stress and take care of you and hubby. One of my sisters has Alzheimers, early stage, too and her hubby has been taking care of her, but, he's 84 yrs old and has really bad knees, and recently he told his youngest son that he doesn't know how much longer he can care for her at home. She's going to be a hard one to take care of too because she doesn't trust anyone. Although she has already told her kids that she will some day have to go into a nursing home. So sad, isn't it? She is the first person ever in our family as far back as we can tell, who has had Alzheimers. I think it's due more to her diabetes than anything.

Got to go get dressed etc.
Everyone have a great day. Stay positive!
Go for a walk or something today. It's 30 degrees here right now, and the sun is out. Nice day for a walk later. .....
