When starting out, I consulted a nutritionist and am continuing to see her every six weeks. After reviewing a food journal I kept, she encouraged me to add protein and put me on a 1500 calorie diabetic exchange diet. After being a calorie counter in earlier attempts, it took me a while to feel comfortable with the plan... but I honestly can say that I feel much better with my carbs, proteins, and fats in balance. My waterloo, so to speak, is artificially sweetened beverages. I need to reduce those and increase my water intake.

Yesterday was Day One of this second round... so I have two days under my belt. It's nice to be able to say that because there were those times when I had to talk myself through it one minute at a time. But I did it... and will continue to do so.

The journey continues...
Bump for this thread. I'm a 50+ noobie. My waterloo (especially this time of year) are chips dips and beer. Hard to watch football without them.

that was the name I received on signing up....Im not creative enough to come up with anything else....LOL! I will be changing it soon.
Lets see.I would like to loose 50# but right now..I am trying for 30#.....15# was a "gain back" after a sucessfull loss of 70#. I am on Day 2...I love food and have to work on bringing myself back to the Beach....I do cheat but I do a lot of exercise and in the end it works for me.
I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and give and receive support in this journey together!

I know that it sounds corny, but it applies to dieting: today is the first day of the rest of your life. Or.... If not now, when? Good to have you onboard, Sharemenu!

I'm a newbie! I am 59 years old, at least for a few more months. My husband and I started using BistroMD 3 weeks ago. It's working out great for us because it keeps me out of the kitchen and we both appreciate that! We decided that we would let the experts help us with our portion control and healthy choices, at least for a few months.

I don't weigh myself very often! It's always depressing seeing my husband lose so much faster than me (men!), but I can tell by my clothes that I'm doing the right things. If the numbers on the scale don't reflect that, it bothers me too much! So, not knowing keeps me on track and believing that I'm just dropping those pounds like crazy.

I've been lurking for awhile, so thought I'd jump in and say hi.

Hi Rob, thanks for the welcome! BistroMd is a prepared diet program that is delivered to my home once a week. I am on the 5 day plan, meaning, I have two days to either fix my own food, or go out to eat. So far, we love it. My husband is on it too.

BistroMd is good, but it's not cheap. We decided to do this for ourselves for awhile because our schedules are always a problem. We end up eating out, or making bad choices when we're rushed so much. Now, I can just grab a meal out of the fridge and heat it up in less than 5 minutes. They taste great, and are well balanced. My husband has lost 10lbs in 3 weeks, and I haven't gotten on the scale, but I feel a difference in my clothes.

That's great progress, indymama! I get on the scale frequently, but it really matters (for me) how many inches I lose from my waist.

Good to have you aboard!

Hello,
I just came indoors @ 7pm from shoveling my deck & front porch; overnight I got 1 foot of snow. Tomorrow I'm snowshoeing instead of shoveling Did anybody else get snow dumped on them?

This pic is me in January 2 1/2 weeks ago in the 50*s @ Lake Michigan, when we decided to look for treasures on the beach. A week later it was back in the 30*s, what a crazy winter we got. I'm sooo happy that spring is coming soon, TY to ground-hog Phil.

I don't use a diet, I eat smart, unless I'm @ a restaraunt.

I don't know what you'all chat about here, but I'll b back to see what's up.

Today's Food Log:
Breakfast: veggie/bacon omelet & hot peppermint tea.
Lunch: panini sandwich w mozz. cheese/lettuce/hard salami & 1 glass of sk.milk.
snack: 1 vanilla protein shake w strawberries.
Supper: 1 slice of lasagna & cup of cole slaw & ice water.
snack: 1 glass of wine & 2 cookies @ 8pm.

B safe this weekend everyone
