Sounds like you're all upright and functional, with the possible exception of PT/Zoe (ONE meal a day??? are you inSANE???? You like to eat, girlie; this must be killing you!)...
Good thoughts for Miss Marie... Everyone, have a lovely whatever today is... Tuesday? Whatever, enjoy!!
Marie, thinking about you today and hoping for a speedy and easy recovery.
I am headed to Helena today in the western part of the state. I hear of show on the way. I need to get into the office and get ready to go. Hopefully, the hotel will have a wifi and I will be back tonight. I must be getting old..... I just want to stay home!
Good Morning, I have Marie on my mind as you all do, we'll see what Donna finds out today.
Rie...congrats on your pool expertise! We'll have to call you chalk fingers.
No the project isn't finished at DD's kitchen. Home Depot had to re-make two cupboards and the third one we have to make work. They are idiots! (Home Depot) This coming Friday one of the cupboard will be delivered. The counter tops are finished and the date has been set for them to install those. Home Depot has a installer we'll use for the counter tops and he'll drill out the sink section and install the sink also. So everything is on hold. That's okay with us, DH wants to get started on the insides of his '32 Chevy. We have all the material and the panels to upholster. The whole insides of the car is gutted. So much to do and so little time. I'm working on my 3rd quilt also. Quilting is addictive.

Bobbi, lasagna with zucchini for noddles is so good! Are the house repairs almost done?
Hah, PT/Donna! Miserable with this one meal a day regimen that I've decided to do for a while? Well, no....not appetite-wise, at any rate. This is my second week, and I'm adapting pretty well, actually. You're right....I LIKE TO EAT, and what seems to always sabotage my efforts at dieting is that I'm just no good at eating little bits of this and that. I like a meal. I get sooooo sick of counting everything that goes into my mouth, and leaving the table feeling unsatisfied.
THIS way, I go without all day, but can sit down to a nice meal at suppertime - nothing terribly extravagant in calories, but hearty and filling - and not have to just eat half, or something. Last night, we had our homemade bean patties made into sandwiches on two pieces of my 60-calorie pita bread with shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, smushed up avocado, and some lite Miracle Whip. Ate about 20 kettle-cooked russet potato chips (to DIE for!) and after cutting the sandwiches in quarters, left the fourth quarter on my plate because I was so full. Went to bed happy, I can tell you. My tummy seems not to be clamoring quite so insistently for food during the day now, and the only somewhat negative thing is that I think my blood sugar levels drop towards afternoon, and if I bend over and straighten up too quickly, I get a little dizzy.
This too shall pass, of course. I have to measure that slight inconvenience against how depressed and miserable I feel when my weight isn't at a comfortable place for me. It's not about how I look, but rather how I feel that invariably puts me back to dieting with a vengeance. Ah, well. Just another chapter in the life of a chronic dieter, eh?
PT? Do we know how Marie made out today?
Bobbi, see above. Those breakfasts had started to not feel like enough, and to have them satisfy me completely, I would've had to eat about 1000 calories' worth. NOT optimum, so I cut them out entirely. Sometimes at lunch, if I really am feeling a little hungry, I drink a 110 calorie protein shake from Trader Joe's. Not every day, though. With all the physical work YOU do, I would imagine you could have 1000 calories at breakfast and burn it right off before lunch!
Rie, I mostly always want to just stay home....and I always envy you your energy and pool expertise. You go, girl! Show 'em how the game is played!
Lynn, I somehow thought you made good money teaching those courses! I guess I'd better get my focus off money in my upcoming retirement and start thinking about what I actually enjoy doing...
K3, I am SO going to try that strawberry-rhubarb concoction. It sounds so delish! I haven't had rhubarb in years, and my mother used to make strawberry-rhubarb pie that I absolutely loved!
Welcome, Jess...and you certainly are pretty! Pull up a chair, pour yourself a beverage of your choice, and join the circle! (We're ALL tough old gals, and that's the truth!)
Welcome to you, too, Brenda. Does Ladysheets mean something in particular?
So glad Marie, that you are out of surgery and doing well. I'll give the same advice my MIL gave me: "Don't lift anything heavier than a tea cup for the next 6 weeks." And get lots of rest.
I didn't get on at all yesterday as I was busy doing something (????). Oh, yes, we had a snow storm and DH had a snow day off the bus and we worked on the kitchen. Well, he did. My back has gone into a spasm again but it doesn't seem so bad tonight.
Bobbi, my cupboards are an antique white and the walls are orange. We're waiting on the counter top to be installed. I bought it last week and arranged to have it cut to size so we could have it any day now unless there is another storm and can't get it delivered. Then we have the floor to install. I finally found the knobs and pulls that matched the hinges. We looked in about 6 or 7 stores over the past couple of weeks.
Karen3, strawberry rhubarb anything is delicious, lol. Now, you must try blueberries and rhubarb. That combination in a pie or jam is superb!
Lynn, glad you enjoyed the pasta dish.
Zoe, your weekend sounded lovely.
Welcome Jess. We'll get to know each other soon.
I'm writing this from memory so I'm not going to remember much, lol. It's late and I'm tired from the day's activities so I'll sign off and hope everyone is well and happy. xoxoxox
Well, today I wasn't able to get out of town until after 2pm and the roads were awful! I was facing 225 miles of ice and blowing snow. All this for a 3 hour meeting that I didn't want to attend, anyway. So, I stayed home. I must be getting chicken in my old age!
I was feeling guilty (and missish). My friend/employee Tao spent about an hour talking to me about his difficulties in merging the demands of his Samoan culture with taking care of his own family right now. His dad is very ill. It was a real gift to listen to this giant of a man talk about his struggles. I guess maybe there was a higher purpose to my reluctance to brave the roads today. Maybe it was intended that I be there at the time.....
So glad to hear from Marie tonight. I am still thinking of her and hoping that she returns to her pack on schedule tomorrow.
Karenfl, strawberry rhubarb is wonderful. Rhubarb is a great fruit for diabetics. I love it with a little diced apple for sweetness. I bake it in little ramekins and it is so yummy!
Isabella, I am looking forward to pictures of your colorful kitchen. All you girls almost inspire me to home improvement activities. Notice that I said ALMOST!
Welcome to JessD and Brenda. Looking forward to getting to know you!
Zoe, It sounds like you are doing a version of intermittent fasting. If it works for you, that would be great. I never did order any of your 60 calorie pita bread but I need to get that done. I love pita bread.
Bobbi, I didn't know that you restore old autos. What a great hobby! BTW, I am definitely "chalk fingers". I swear that my palm is permanently blue from the pool chalk that is in my skin. It gets really bad during the winter when my skin is dry.... LOL
Donna, fun talking to you tonight. It was so nice to hear from Marie - I bet you felt the same.
Lynn, I would love to meet you for a 5k. It might be kind of spendy to travel between MT and PA. Maybe we could start a challenge where we track the number of miles we put in. But, Marie would kick both our butts at that! Especially when she gets well, we would have to tie bricks to her feet to slow her down. I share your love of teaching.
Freda, Gayle, Rosey, Karenmo, and Mary - have a lovely evening!
Hello everyone, finally getting here. Went to the gym this morning, then working here at home rest of day. Had let the laundry pile up a bit so had more loads than usual. It was a pretty day and Joe worked outside mowing etc. He really enjoys that.
Rie - I'd have stayed home too. I don't like driving in snow although I'm sure you are much more used to it than I. Glad you were there for your friend.
Isabella - Sorry to hear about your back! I hate back spasms and get them a few times each year. You may remember I had a bad episode in Dec. Recently my back has been sore, not really spasming but I've been concerned it might begin, sure hope not. I never know what causes it, do you? I hope yours goes away soon.
Donna/Rie - Glad you heard from Marie and that she came through it ok. Guess sore is to be expected but hope she heals fast. I agree with the not lifting advice.
Bobbi - You've really been working hard on dd's kitchen! I'm sure she is thrilled with what you're doing. Does she work on it too? It seems like home remodeling always turns out to be a much bigger project than one imagines in the beginning!
Rie - About the WA caucaus...it was interesting but I was somewhat disillusioned and frustrating too. The acoustics in the room were so bad that it was very very difficult to hear what was being said even at our own tables let alone the others! Not sure what you mean by not counting. We did elect delegates from our precincts and their votes will count. We who represented our precinct did vote (twice) on which candidate we want to win but no, the delegates are not bound to vote the way the majority voted. What upsets me is that this is the ONLY time WA voters will have a say in choosing of a Republican candidate. In the past we have always had a caucaus plus a regular vote. That's the way I feel it should be. So I voted (very informally..show of hands) but it may mean absolutely nothing! Well we should know by tonight how they all did. In fact Joe is calling me right now to watch..so gotta close this now.

Hi Rie,
A while ago (before Isabella disappeared), Isabella, Bobbi, and I were "walking to CA." We had a thread going in the Sticky area where we tracked our exercise in miles/kilometers and discussed the different cities/towns we were in based on the amount of exercise we had done. I think I got to someplace in OH before we stopped.
I say we DEFINITELY take on Marie. Competition will make us step up to the plate.
Think about how we should structure the challenge and let's go!

Bobbi - I could write a book about the odd ideas my DH has. First of all, any ailment you get he says it's from something you ate. He said my heart surgery was because I was eating cucumbers. If I had listened to him when I had the peritonitis I would have died from it. I chose to go to the ER instead of listening to him saying I ate something "bad". He thinks bacteria gets into food if it's not eaten in the first hour after it's made. Also, eating leftovers to him means that you're too poor to have "new food" every day. He would never want anyone to think he's poor. So many people have told him how food tastes so much better the second (or third) day but he won't change. It's a good thing he has so many redeeming qualities.
Glad to hear Marie is doing well. Can't wait til she home and feeling up to posting again!
Four days down, two more to go. I got out on time last night ~ what a treat. DD Sara and DGD Maddie were here when I got home ~ that was a much needed dose of happiness/fun.
DH was down on his knees scrubbing the floors (company coming the weekend). I worry that he will hurt his knees. Wish he would just use a mop, that would be good enough. I appreciate his hard work.
They put me on a machine at physical therapy yesterday ~ I loved it. I wonder if they have one like it at the “Y”. I doubt it, but can hope. It was called a recumbent cross trainer. You sit down on it and it has bars that work like the arm pieces of an elliptical and foot pieces that you push out away from you. It didn’t hurt my back like the recumbent exercise bike did. The only thing was that the bottoms of my feet got tired (not painful) feeling.
Carol Sue ~ people get some crazy notions don‘t they? For me, my DH wants to blame every ailment on my extra weight. I am well aware, that it affects things. I have to laugh though (sometimes) my neck has been hurting lately (I guess part of my messed up spine issues) so according to his thinking ~ I guess my head has gotten just too fat for my neck to be hurting like that ~ LOL.
Lynn ~ I was toying with a similar idea to encourage me to do my walking and make it seem fun for me. I was going to locate the GG’s on a map, and “walk” to see each one of you. But, I do so little at a time and not with the regularity I hope to, so figured it would just end up frustrating me. Maybe somehow I can come up with some version of that idea that would work.
Marie ~ hope you are doing well and not in too much pain. Be careful after you are home and take care of you.
Rie ~ you’re not getting chicken in your old age ~ getting wise. Glad you did not attempt those awful roads. Sounds like you were where you were supposed to be ~ being able to listen to your friend.
Well, gotta get ready for work. I’ve done my stretches (for my back) and need to leave enough time for my walk.
Here is a picture of that machine I used yesterday at physical therapy.

Maybe we could see who wants to join & then pick some equi-distant place for each of us to aim at. NOTE: in our last thread, we used a formula of 1 minute = 1 mile. So, if you exercised for 30 minutes, you earned 30 miles.
Lynn and Gayle, I think the idea of walking somewhere together is a great one! I am in and will walk anywhere that you want to go. In pool, (as in golf or bowling) we often "handicap" an event where the strongest players have to play harder or longer. Evening the playing field, so to speak. Perhaps with Gayle's knee issues, or depending on who participates... we could come up with a system. I know that Marie and I routinely log more than an hour of excercise per day. I also really like the idea of x minutes = miles. Otherwise, I would start neglecting my strength training again. Let me know.
Marie, I thought the washington primary was a "beauty contest" in which the delegates are not obligated to vote the way the caucus went. Guess I was wrong. I commend you for going. My strong belief is that one must participate as a voter - no matter what your party or beliefs. Anyway, good job.
March 3 (Bloomberg) -- Mitt Romney won a straw poll in Washington state’s Republican caucuses, gaining a boost heading into Super Tuesday on March 6 when 11 states hold Republican presidential contests.
The choice isn’t binding. Romney won 36 percent of the straw poll votes, cast as participants entered the caucuses, according to results posted automatically on the Washington State Republican party website.
Good Morning, a quick fly by here too. Marie is on my mind and thought more news of some kind would be posted. I'm not a face book fan but can go there maybe to see what's up. Speaking of facebook, DD has me hooked on a scrabble game, words with friends or something like that. Anyone else playing it? Anyone want to start a game with me to keep Alzheimer at bay?
Isabella...I stand corrected, I thought you had orange cupboards. No, Tiffany isn't helping with the remodeling, she's too busy with her job. We have 3 chiefs already working on it, she'd get in the way. Home Depot delivered one of the cupboards last night, DH and his helper will put that in friday when the counter tops are installed. Today I'll finish my 3rd blue jean quilt. I'll use the first two as part of Christmas gifts to grandsons. This 3rd quilt is for DH and I'm going to make a 4th quilt for DH's best friend for Christmas. (I have tons of blue jean material left) On ebay I found a new pattern for a bunny rabbit and a teddy bear, I'll use up some of the blue jean material to make up a bunch of them.
Rie...DH purchased a 1932 Chevy a couple of years ago. This is his first and last car. He thought he could turn over a easy profit on it by getting it painted,, upholster and refinished. HA! It's not that easy and very expensive, like re-modeling a house. The more you do, the more you find to do. He purchased the car cheap enough but we'll have that much money again invested in the paint job, that alone was over $3,000. Then we have the material, foam padding, carpeting, re-plating the bumper, lights, horn, blah, blah, blah. I hate thinking about it, money, money, money. Plus we have to rent a garage in town to store it, we only have a double garage on our house. (A sore subject with me)
Glynne...It was a fun way of getting exercise, maybe we should start it up again. Truthfully, that's the only exercise I got since I hate with a passion to exercise.

Lynn...what do ya tink? Should we start our tour of the states again?
Mary...I'm glad you and hubby are interested in the political realm. You can make up for my lack of interest, I would run as fast as I could in the opposite direction. I'm pretty naive about Washington and what goes on by choice.
Donna...what's up?
Zoe...I've been thinking about your one-a-day meal and I use to do that during my working years. I always skipped lunch since I could leave work early. I was never hungry either, my tummy just got used to it. It has the added benefits of not worrying about what to eat for breakfast or lunch, the time it takes to eat, pack, etc. It obviously wouldn't work for everyone who has medical issues, diabetes, etc.
Carol Sue...about your hubby, has he always thought this way about food? He must be a picky eater huh? But a keeper he is, glad you've learned to live with his phobias.

I hadn't planned on gabbing this long, hi to all I missed.
KarenFla...I took a picture of my itty bitty lemons, I'll post pictures. I'm as proud as a new parent! I counted at least 34 baby lemon buds. The pot next to it is some basil seeds I planted for my herb pot in the breezeway. Looks like the basil didn't survive over the winter, loads of Parsley on it. The rosemary survived too.
