Hello-- we have had a LAZY Gorking day here today! I think it is because the weather is gray and rainy.....I know it could be white and freezing!! I didn't get near as much done today that I thought that I would but the computer wouldn't turn me loose!!!!

Lynn, I have one of those "Daily"s that look a lot like those frothers.... don't know it that would be the same or not. But my Mom had one years ago and would use it for mashed potatos -- they came out so creamy. I had forgotten that I have it. Guess I should get it down out of the closet and read the book on it. LOL!! I've used it when I make "oatmeal pancakes" and they mix up real good.

I'm still loving the "Magic Bullet" but haven't done a whole lot more experimenting... But I use it everyday. I love using the mix fruit and a tropical "splash" blend with some yogurt in it. Sure came out good-- almost like the "dreamsicles" you used to get from the ice cream man!!! YUMMY
Guess I need to find more things to mix up but I get stuck on something. I have mixed up my slimfast french vanilla powder, strawberries and fat free milk and that does real good.

Donna, are you snowed in? It is "rumbling" here a little with some thunder so Ginger has taken her space under the couch. Sissy is laying here next to me. Your chili sounded really good. Wish I would have thought to do something like that today. But we ended up having a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. My sandwich was fat free cheese and I made the soup with fat free milk.

Lynn, sounds like you are feeling better. Glad to hear that. Enjoy reading your posts too.
Cinnamonie--- I don’t get much into the football deals. I know that sounds terrible. I’d just as soon put my headphones on and play my keyboard. Tim watches it some but not always.

Rie—I hope you are feeling better tonight. My Dad would have told you to fix a “hot Toddy”!! Between hot toddys and Listerine he didn’t think you really needed anything else!!

Gayle, I have the Leslie Sansone walk DVD’s too. I still get them out once in awhile and enjoy doing them. WHEN I EXERCISE! Gosh, I need to get my head back in the game. Anyway, they are good and you can work up a sweat with them too. I usually like to take them in the RV when we go. Compact and easy. Get you some wrist weights and/or ankle weights and it is a good workout. Your weather has probably made you feel kind of “yucky” too. I know we need the moisture but I hate it when it is all gray and rainy!

CarolSue, it sounds like your Dr. is pretty happy with the way things are healing. Just keep an eye on it and if you don’t like something about it don’t be afraid to call and scream at them!! But hope everything continues to heal just the way that it should.

Gayle, I am enjoying the Bible study Thanks for asking me. I did get the first lesson completed today and have 4 more to do before Wednesday. Then we will watch another video and then have 5 more lessons for the next week. I am learning that I have a lot to learn! I also watch a tv program that is “Through the Bible with Les Feldick” He is just an Oklahoma rancher that teaches the Bible, not any one denomination and I enjoy listening to him. He is on the CTN channel if any of you would like to check him out. Or you can go to: www.lesfeldick.org and check out his tv/radio schedule. It comes on at 4:00 in the afternoon here and I’m usually pretty busy doing something so I DVR it and watch it later. He is pretty interesting.

Gosh, I guess I have made this a book!! Sorry about that. Hello to everyone that I have missed. Zoe, did you get back from your travels? I hope your weather has been kind to you.
Have a good night everyone!!

Bobbi, I guess we were posting at the same time. Your post sounds really interesting but I don't see any pictures... My gosh, you have really been busy.. I'm anxious to see the pictures.

I would like to know what i tomato tart is too...

Bobbi - thanks for the pictures... what a chore, and it's going to be worth it! Now take some "after" pictures, too, when it's all finished!

CK - yea, I'm kind of snowed in. The NeighborSnowBlower did blow this morning, but I didn't have to go out, after all... and it looks like he'll have to do it again tomorrow. He's at work right now, but I think I'll take some chili and some cc cookies and hang them on his door. I do appreciate him!! So far, I have about 15" in the backyard, and it's still coming down. The WF said "about 20""... and it looks like they might be right, for once!

Later, lovelies........

BTW, the "quick reply" option hasn't worked for me in days... I have to use "advanced". Anyone else having this problem? Irritating!

Bobbi, just came back and saw your pictures... WOW!! You have been really working hard.. It is going to be so nice. I'm anxious to see the after pictures too

I haven't had any trouble with the post quick reply...

Donna, just the idea of turkey meatloaf with broccoli and coleslaw sounds disgusting. Kai sends her love to SamCat and she hope the snowstorms have stayed away from her beloved fave kitty.

Cinnamonie, woots on the 3 pound loss. Fat or water, we always like when the scale is being friendly. Also, I’m a huge GB Packer fan. As my footballs season came to a screeching halt a couple weeks ago, I’m boycotting the SB. I despise the Patriots and their cheating coach and the Giants took out the Packers. So I can’t watch. If I were to choose one that is the lesser of two evils, I’d choose the Giants but not by much.

KarenFL, based on the voicemail I got from my dr office after the yucky test, they found nothing and are going to say oh well. Hence my posting at 3 in the morning. I am mad now. I HATE the medical establishment.

Deelee, your idea of Starbucks stock is starting to grow on me. I just looked up the trading quote and I think I could get a few shares. I think I just might do that. BTW, your stock should go up as I had a skinny mocha at the bucks every day this week (M-F). That little indulgence will not reoccur this week. But it was fun while it lasted. I do really like their new skinny mocha at 110 cal for a tall. Of course I get a venti at 183 cals.

Lucinda, I chuckled at your frother post. So basically I’d have 1.67 frothers after my Starbucks binge? I’m glad you’re enjoying your frother. And I love almond breeze! 40 cals is so cheap.

Gayle, ditto on the chatting endlessly with the non-workers. Every weekend my family thinks I should be on the phone talking with them for hours and then my weekend is gone. I LOVE to talk to them but I really don’t like hours spent on the phone. Hours here… that’s a different matter all together. Hmmm, I wonder why that is.
I remember my mantra – Worse things have happened to nicer people. It gets me through the bad times.” Lynn, mind if I steal your mantra? I really like it. And I’d so love to have some of your stew. And I never noticed the egg ! before. Too funny. Thanks for the details as I haven’t perused the little icons before.

Bobbi, I’m not sure I agree with Dr Oz and the cheat day to fool the metabolism. I’m pretty sure mine is so smart it can out-think any diet plan and just keep slowing down.

KarenMO, I’m jealous of your thunderstorm (Kodiak isn’t as he’s terrified of thunder and would join Ginger under your couch). I adore lightening and thunder.

I think I’m caught up. I know I didn’t respond to everyone so here is a blanket HI to those I did miss. I love you all! I’m going to read then hopefully finally fall back to sleep.

Good Morning Gg's,

I was working for the last couple of days. The pits. I am so counting the days. I have longer than Z, but at least the end is near. went to the Dr. for my yearly physical. Dr. was not pleased that I had fx. a vertibrea. He took vit. D leavels, seemed more concerned with that than the calcium. I'm sure i'll be low. I think most people are in the winter time. And I don't sun, so mine are probably lower than most. And of course I now have an appointment for another bone scan. And an ecko. Yeah for me.

My sister is in the hospital right now. she smokes, a lot, and her lungs are crappy. She got the upperrespiratory virus thats going around and it went right to her lungs. Her son came home and found her lying in the floor, passed out. Ambulance came and her pulse ox was 70. they are building a new house and her husband is spending his days there. If her son hadn't found her, her husband would have come home and found her dead. God was watching over her this time. My mom, who is also sick, had to get to the hospital to "take care of her". I guess you're always a mom with the thought that you have to take care of your babys, even when they are grandma's themselves.

Lynn, I didn't give the information about taking a shower to clean wounds, but it was good advice. And swimming pools and baths, especially with bubble baths and some bath products are no-no if you have UTI's.

Gail, Hopefully we'll be in the retired group with lots of time to talk soon too. But I understand how you feel. I clean while i'm talking. Dusting gets done. sweeping the floor, lots of choirs. You mentioned that you talked to your mom while you were walking. Are you still walking?

Bobbi, You really are working hard. I remember, still, DH and I putting in a new kitchen. But that was a long time ago and I was much younger. And had a lot more enegy. Your DD is a lucky girl. My mom was a lot like your daughter. She got rid of all her "old" really good solid furniture and bought cheap knock off's. I did talk her into keeping her original machogany sleigh bed and dresser. It's really beautiful. She wanted to give it away and buy a cheap lamanate one.

Hi Cinnamonie, Welcome! Look forward to getting to know you. We will watch the superbowl. I don't have any preferance, since my team didn't get in. So I'll just critique the plays.

Rie, Sorry you're feeling yucky again. Maybe a good days rest will help.

Dee, I haven't watched the Ides of March yet, but it's on my "to do" list. I'm afraid I will be very upset.

Jess, Burrrr, just looking at all the snow makes me cold. Although I'd rather be cold than too hot. I can always put on a sweatshirt and socks. I can only take so much off. I'm going to make chili for today too. I have to go back and look at your recipe, I want something different.

Isabella, When did you decide to become a vegaterian?

Karen3, every time I see a post from you I think about the joke that Woody Allen told about bridge players.

Carol Sue, Sounds like your incision is coming along well. Never fast enough, is it?

Marie, Sorry you didn't get a good results from the tests. Just what is the Dr. telling you now? I'm sure they have checked for endometrosis.

What is everyones plans for today? Hope it's to have fun

Freda

To steal a greeting from my sis/PT DonnainDenver, Hola, one and all! I am home from my trek to Vermont, and am happy to report that there isn't any more snow there than there is here...bad for the ski industry, but VERY good for my drive. My destination in Vermont is a scant 20 miles south of the Canadian border, and the highways are very much up-down-sideways and roller-coaster-ish - NOT optimum when there's ice and/or snow about. And speaking of Denver, WOW, PT! You guys really got hit! Second only to our Rosey in the frozen Alaskan tundra, eh? So, my "commute" to Vermont is just about 4 hours each way, but a very pretty drive, actually, with lovely mountain views a large part of the way.

One of the reasons that this "consulting gig" is so pleasant is because the folks for whom we are consulting view us as the *experts* and are very appreciative of everything we have to say - every bit of material that we produce. My gosh, when I walked into their office, there was a woman waiting to see someone, and she looked up and said, "Oh, I LOVE your hair!" Can you imagine? Compliments? Appreciation? These are things that are simply non-existent on my full time job. I bring in a million dollar check for THEM, and their response is usually, "Aren't they (the funders) good for more than THAT?" They wouldn't notice hair, clothes, anything...all they see is dollar signs. Oh, I simply can't wait to say buh-bye to those greedy people!

Well, there are so many posts....I've been reading, but not posting because by the time I've read all the new ones, I'm out of time. Today, however, is going to be at least a partial "me" day - I was supposed to go up to NH with dh for a little get-together with some friends, but at the last minute just pooped out. I told him to go ahead without me. I just need ONE day when I don't have to drive somewhere and do something. It's a little different for him - he doesn't have to drive anywhere or do anything MOST days, after all.

Anyhoo, I'll do my best, here. Sorry to hear about your sis, Freda. I can't help but think that that could have been me if I hadn't stopped smoking 5 or so years ago. Funny, isn't it, the way some people know to the day when they stopped, and I never really tried to keep track. I know it was well before we moved here - a couple of years before - and we've been here 3 years, so it's at least 5. I still tend to get bronchitis if I get too bad a cold, but I've been slurping down Airborne at the first sign of a sniffle, and so far been able to keep the bronchitis at bay for the past couple of months. I had it I think in November if I'm not mistaken. I hope your sis stops smoking soon.

LOL, Carol Sue. 40 invisible pounds would work for me, as well. If you figure out how to do it, please share...

Marie, your clever metabolism sounds like it may have given mine a few lessons. My cheat days turn into "cheat weeks", anyway, so that doesn't much work in my case, either.

Hey, CaddyK...yup, am back, and so far, another cold but sunny day here. You "gorked" yesterday, and I am "gorking" today. Gotta love it. I may go out for a few little groceries...nothing much...a little later, but not planning anything strenuous.

Isabella! Tomato tart! Information, please! Inquiring minds (MANY inquiring minds) want to know! It sure sounds like something we would like!

Bobbi, that looks like some serious WORK you're doing there! Feminist that I am, I've reached the stage in my life where that sort of thing is, in my humble opinion, MEN'S work. I would be happy to pick out the new cabinets and choose paint colors and such, but demolition and installation is just something I'm happy to be left out of. You are an amazing woman - I suspect you are descended from a race of Amazons who ruled their men with an iron fist and could do anything the men could do...(so who needed 'em?)....while I am obviously descended from some bit of puffery who had to whine and cajole their way through life.....awwwwww, darnit.

Hi Ms. Cinnamonie. You're a Patriot's fan, are you? I suppose I ought to be, living in Massachusetts and all, but I can't bring myself to liking any of them...as far as I'm concerned, they all make way too much money, and the cost of tickets to the games are nothing short of criminal. Bah, humbug.

Thanks for the frother link, Lynn...I ordered one for my dd...she loves those designer drinks from Starbucks, and maybe with a frother, she can make some for herself.

Rie, I'm worried about you, hun. Do you take a multi-vitamin? Sounds like your body is missing some necessary nutrients, what with how you've been feeling. Do you take Airborne or any kind of immunity booster besides the zinc and C, I mean? The Airborne has been keeping me ambulatory despite the sloppy, runny-nosed kisses from those irresistible little twins of ours. I mean, I'm not giving up those kisses, so I just have to fortify myself for the outcome, you know? I'm still sort of riding the fence on this latest cold...taking the Airborne, drinking down some Nyquil when I go to bed at night, and taking Tylenol for colds during the day. I know a lot of people swear by the Tylenol/Mucinex combo, but the Mucinex doesn't do much for me. Well, I hope you feel better soon. It's been a pretty miserable winter for you, but spring is on it's way, thank gawd.

Lynn, it sounds like you're going to have to adjust to showers from now on, chickie. I'm a bath lover, myself, and have never had any problem with UTI's (thank goodness) but the shower advice makes sense. I've actually enjoyed showers the few times I've taken them, but somehow just automatically run a tub for myself...more habit than anything else, I guess.

Gayle, I know what you mean about getting home from work, having supper, doing a few little bits of things, and having the whole evening be gone in the blink of an eye. It really does get tiresome.

Ah, Lucinda - I see you're the one who brought up the frother idea! Well, thanks to you, too! (And my daughter would thank you if she knew where I got the idea for buying her one!)

Deelee, I'm tired a lot, too, in winter. I think it's the low-level sunlight. I don't do well at all in the cold and gray...need sunshine and warmth to stay happy and energetic. Unfortunately, the only way I could have it year round would be to move south, and I can't leave my children and grandchildren. <sigh>

K3, I have exactly twelve more weeks to work. I've been marking them off the calendar. It's one of those situations where time flies while at the same time moves like spilled molasses...weird, you know?

Mary, what are you up to?

Who have I missed? (Sorry).

Have a great day, y'all....I'm off to "gork" to my heart's content!

Hi Deelee, I have an aunt and cousin living in Illinois. My aunt married an American serviceman stationed in Newfoundland, at few years after World War II. She lived in Chicago for many years and I visited her there when I was 18 yo. Then they moved to Broadview where she still lives. She'll be 92 this year. Hope you're not too tired today. Are your iron levels down? I've coloured my eyebrows on occasion when I do my hair. My eyebrows are getting unruly which is worse than turning grey.

Lucinda, my DIL received a hot chocolate maker for Christmas. It's a ceramic pot with a spout and a little teeny, tiny battery operated whisk to make the chocolate frothy. Is your frother similar to a little whisk?

Carol Sue, I think the clean running water from the shower would clean out the wounds. I hope things are healing and getting smaller.

Cinnamonie, I'd kill myself if I used a trampoline (any size), especially a mini one. It looks so easy but I know I'd jump off the thing instead of on it. I'm so clumsy. But, I think if I could, I'd love to use one. I've got 2 boxes full of "skinny" clothing that used to fit or almost fit. Someone thought I was getting rid of them but I informed them I wasn't buying any "fat" stuff and if I didn't get back into the "skinny" clothes I'd soon be going naked. That's motivation. I don't do football or soccer or hockey or skiing or golf or baseball or anything, hahaha. So the SB weekend will pass very uneventful for me. You, though, my dear have a good time watching with your friend.

Gayle, I'm afraid I'm one of those retired ones who keeps my sister and friends on the phone for hours. I shall back off, lol. I'm not a phone chatter by nature but when I do phone it's usually a marathon.
I'm a shortie, too, but so is DH. I have a 3-step stool that I use several times a week and a little rubbermaid stepstool that I keep in constant use.

Donna, we're having a bit of a storm today. Not much going to fall here but there will be drifting. Last week we were dumped and that picture of the strawberry planter could have been taken in my yard.

Rie, hope you're feeling much better by today. I had to laugh when I read about watching a movie and reading a book. I do that too, especially if the movie isn't too interesting. I was a primary teacher for 31 years and we celebrated every season and holiday that could be turned into a reading/writing/math/etc activity, lol. So, when groundhog day was upon us I just naturally looked for something the "class" would like.

Bobbi
, those cupboards are going to be lovely in that kitchen. I hate renovations. I'd just as soon pack a bag and move into a motel until every thing is finished. Just the smell of paint makes me want to leave not because the smell is bad but because of the disruption in my life. I have to stay, though and help. It's a deep-seated psychological trauma from childhood, LOL. My mother painted, wallpapered and put down new flooring every year for Christmas. I can even remember going to bed Christmas Eve watching mom finishing up that last bit of papering or painting. I'm scarred.

Lynn, Karen31 & Zoe and Others
who inquired, this is a tomato tart. It is essentially a pie crust, a layer of cheese, a layer of tomatoes and some seasoning. Some recipes get a bit more involved with onions, garlic, cream and the like but this one is very simple. You can google for a recipe but this is the one I used. I had a very thin crust made from leftover scraps from pastry I made last week.

Tomato Tart
1 prepared pie crust or 1 refrigerated pie crust

Filling:
2 T Dijon mustard
1 cup (4 oz) Gruyere cheese grated
large tomato, thinly sliced
2 T fresh basil, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350°.

Place dough in a 9" removable bottom tart pan (or ordinary pie pan is fine). Crimp to make an edge around pan and prick a few holes with a fork on bottom.

Bake10 minutes until slightly brown.

Spread mustard on bottom (I only used about a teaspoon as mustard isn't a favourite of mine), then cheese in an even layer. Arrange tomato slices over cheese and bake 30 minutes until tomatoes begin to look dry. Sprinkle with basil, salt, and pepper to taste.
Serves 6-8.

Karen31, you've got me reading the Book of Esther.

Marie, I do hope the doctors have it right but I'm sure something must be giving you so much pain.

Freda, I do hope your sister will be all right. Most of my MIL's medical problems stem from smoking. When she went into kidney failure a year and a half ago, she quit smoking immediately and although she was not a happy camper for a few weeks (months) now she can't stand the smell of cigarettes. I've been a vegetarian since 1997 with a couple of those years eating vegan. My DS decided he was not going to eat meat and became vegetarian so DH and I decided we'd eat that way too. We'd been eating semi-vegetarian for years and finally gave up the meat altogether.

Zoe, glad to see you back home safe and sound. I remember those roads in Vermont (many, many years ago). When you mentioned them my memory went back nearly 40 years ago. Those were the years you could go back and forth the border without a full body check and 20 pieces of ID including a passport. LOL It is so nice when someone takes the time to make you feel welcome and compliment you on the work you are doing. It just makes you want to do the best for them. Not that you wouldn't, but you know what I mean.)

I had a nice surprise this morning. I decided to wear my long winter boots but as I was pulling them on I remembered one leg was almost too tight to pull up the zipper. They are adjustable and I was in a hurry and didn't want to take the time but wonder of wonders the tight leg zipped right up without any problem. Now, there's a NSV!

Yesterday, I was at the Goodwill Centre for the last day for the next six weeks. That place puts a lot of things in perspective for me. A young woman phoned for food but the food bank wasn't open yesterday so the other lady who was with me told her she'd have to phone a clergy or a board member for emergency assistance. She phoned one of the board members who phoned us and said to fill an order for her so I took care of that. She came in needing all food items and diapers for an 8 month old baby. She didn't have any transportation but she just lived down the street from the Centre so I piled the groceries in my car and gave her a ride home. Poverty is such a cyclic disease. I know she's living like she was raised with no hope of changing and she doesn't even know there's something better. And her kids will probably be the same. The sad thing is she only received a welfare check a few days before and she couldn't make it stretch for four days. She reeked of tobacco smoke an so did her house (and so did my car while she was in it). Her husband/boyfriend (?) was home looking after the children but didn't do much to help bring in the groceries. I'd wager there was beer/alcohol and drugs in that house too--just no idea of the priorities in life. I'm not condemning those who smoke/drink, etc,--that's their business but when there's no distinction between that and the necessities of life I get so sad and sometimes angry. I know people rise above their situations and do well (not always financially but socially accountable) but this girl will never do that; even if she had money land in her lap it would be gone in a few weeks. I'm so fortunate to have a nice home, food in the cupboard, heat and comfort. And because of that I must never think I'm better or above those poor creatures who cannot do better. I can only help where I can and try to show them there is something better. Maybe someday someone will say to me, "You helped."

OK, I'll stop now, lol. Have a nice day.

Hi Everyone,

I had a tough morning with my DF with Altzheimer's. At this point, she is falling a LOT and getting lost a LOT. Her family has now decided that she must have someone with her at all times.

Her mind is amazing - comes up with the words, "implausible" and "aesthetics" but cannot come up with words like "house" or "old." NOTE: she has a doctorate in Linguistics.

I am not sure how much longer I will be able to see her. At this point, I just talk to her - not really conversation, just telling her stories. She tries to talk to me, but I cannot really understand what she is trying to say most of the time. She cannot remember about every 3rd or 4th word.

Lynn

Lynn, I am so sorry for your friend. She is blessed to have you no matter if she doesn't remember or know. We're all blessed to have you as our friend.

Isabella, thank you for sharing the story about the young mother in need. It is sad because that cycle will more than likely continue but one never knows when your help will make that one chink in the cycle and their lives will be changed. You are an amazing woman. BTW, I was looking at your Tomato Tart recipe and picture (scarily I drooled on my laptop) and wondered if that stuff that Hungry Girl touts all the time, I think it is phylo dough or something like that - maybe Bobbi knows - would work instead of a high cal pie crust. I was thinking that and fresh mozz cheese would be tasty and lo-cal. I might just research that idea.

Zoe, 12 weeks and you are free. How cool is that? My blue eyes are now green (goes well with the drool btw). I imagine the consulting is quite an ego boost considering the nastiness in your office environment. I'm happy for you.

Freda, I hope your sister recovers and never smokes another cigarette in her life. And you're in my thoughts with all the bone density concerns.

Carol Sue, ditto on letting us know if you figure out how to make 40 pounds invisible. If you do, I'm making Isabella's Tomato Tart and pile on the cheese.

DH and I took all four huskies to the vet for their annual check up and shots. All are healthy and doing great and my purse is much lighter. Kai Pixie has an appointment on Wednesday to have her teeth cleaned so the purse will be floating to the sky soon. She's the youngest and needed a cleaning. Kody's were the best and he was so proud of his pearly whites. Anyway, now it is gorking time and then after lunch I'm going to take a nap. I washed my wood floors and they look so pretty. Scarily by the time I was done, there was more fur and paw prints. But for a little while it looks pretty nice. I took out my medical frustrations on the floors instead of the tortilla chips.

I meant to mention that the picture is not mine. It's one I found on google images that looked very much like the tart I made.
