Hi Everybody, Jane - Thought that picture with the autumnul leaves was soo beautiful. I live opposite a park and see the transformation of all the trees each season and am always in awe of the spectacle!

Helen, - So sorry too that you have such a worry with your son but as you say he has always excelled at sports and we can't all be good at everything.can we? However, if I could add a positive note to this. My son was really hopeless at school. These days he would have most probably be diagnosed with one or another of these modernised complaints added to which we never found out till he was in his late twenties that he was dislexic (most prob incorrect spelling). However, he went on to become a paramedic and quite high ranking too.

Just had my bedroom decorated and new carpet, plus a very nice adjustable bed that helps me get out of bed in the mornings, being as I am a disabled pensioner and getting quite stiff and pained with ankilosing spondilitis of the spine!
Never mind - worse things at sea, as my mother always used to say!!

Hello everyone! It is a rainy cloudy day here. We got up late and since my dh had some shopping to do, I haven't gotten much done here at home. We went to Lowes to return a sprayer he bought in wrong size (too small) and also he bought some foam to prevent air leaks (drafts) in places like under the sinks. Also another mouse got in last night. My dh knew he went into the bathroom (which I refused to use after that!!) and set a trap. Sure enough we caught him! I hope he is the only one. We had NO mice in the house or seen in the yard until we started with the pesticide service...since then we have caught 3 mice in the house and found 3 dead in the back yard. The stuff is like bait ...it attracts them and then they take it back to their nests....but before they all die they start looking for new homes. They told us this might happen but I thought they meant bugs and it was suppose to happen only after the first spraying I thought. I'm beginning to think I should not have signed on for the service as a preventative measure when we had no problems! Dumb, Dumb, Dumb...three more sessions for the service and to pay for..

I also got a new exterior door mat. I like the one we have but it is very hard for me to keep clean. It is too heavy for me to shake, and blowing it isn't real effective. Got this new rug cause it can be both blown (or vacuumed) and hosed. Then once I got it home I thought, why have I not tried hosing the old one?!! So for now I'm keeping the new one inside the garage at the interior door (needed a new mat there too) until I decide whether I really need it outside. See, I'm not so smart sometimes...I sorta learn by trial and error..
I'm not blonde but I am gray...perhaps it's about the same condition? LOL

Hi all,

em - so glad you have a bed that is helpful for your condition. How cool to live so near a park!

Mary - we have mice any time there is a harvest, but have traps and poison out, which takes care of them. My next pet is going to be a big cat. We have wild cats in the barn, but I want one for the house. Can't get one until my old faithful dog Molly is gone. She would never forgive me if I got a cat in her lifetime, lol.

Hello to Trish, Pam, Doris, Silver, Helen, and everyone else. I sure miss those of you who haven't been able to post in awhile, and hope you do soon!

We went to granddaughter Caylin's b'day party today, and we all had so much fun! Tomorrow, though, her stepdad goes to Iraq for a year. It is through a company he works for, and he was offered a very good deal, salary-wise, and it will be a huge boost to his career. Still, that's a long time for my daughter to be alone with the kiddos. She has a great support system with family and friends, though, and has taken a leave of absence from her job.

I'm down 42.6 pounds now. It's been a slow, but consistent, loss. I have to admit that in the beginning, I was frustrated at how slow my post-menopausal loss was, but have decided to embrace it! After all, I am in no hurry, and have enjoyed treats here and there this way. A very do-able way to lose!

Have a good weekend!

Good morning everyone. Sorry I haven't been posting much, its harvest time, we had a 60th anniv. party for my parents, hosted our annual hayride, and I am still mending from the torn muscle in my leg, I have not gone back to walking with my friend yet, I may try a few laps on my own some evening. And I read in the local paper that our highschool is open from 6-7 am for walkers-we were going at 6:30 as it was too dark to continue outside at 6 am-so I will suggest to my friend that we try that out-I so enjoy getting it done early! We have been having wonderful weather here in mid-Michigan, too bad it wasn't the best for our hayride!
We have part of our soybeans harvested, no corn yet, and the guys got wheat planted yesterday, I am hoping we can plant some hard red spring wheat next spring-that is if I don't have to have it all ground for the flour I have been selling. I will be taking my broilers to get butchered on Thurs, I have about 50 raised on pasture, they are huge! We also have a beef going in on the 18th, its all sold.
I have been enjoying my new grandson and of course his older sister! We will be going down to watch my older grand march at her school's last home game this week, now that she is in highschool we don't see as much of her, she is a swimmer too.
its good to see and catch up with you here.
thanks for the support.
Pam

Jane - congrats on the weight loss ...that is fantastic!

Pamb - your hayride sounds fun! Haven't done that in many years. I take it the weather didn't cooperate? Sorry about that. Wow 60 years, a long time! Congratulations to them and you too..way too many younger people today cannot say their parents were even together 10 years! I've always been glad we stuck it out (don't mean to sound like it's been hard, it hasn't) to show our kids it's possible. But I realize some people have some very difficult circumstances or simply no choice.

Sounds like you have a very full, busy life. Hope your leg muscle heals soon. I love to walk but have no one to walk with and don't feel comfortable on my own. My dh used to walk with me but when we joined the gym he didn't want to anymore as we walked there. Although we have a wonderful track (and treadmills) at the gym with huge windows all around and a beautiful outside view, I still prefer to actually walk outside. I like to walk with someone, look around and talk about what we see etc...but my dh likes to listen to his iPod so doesn't care to talk.

Glad you're enjoying your grandchildren. They certainly are fun!

Good morning ladies. its going to be another nice day here, I think I will get out and work up a bed to plant some garlic in. then I need to put water in our outdoor wood burner, this warm weather won't last forever.
Maryea, I wouldn't be walking if I didn't have some one to walk with, it helps to have the support, too bad your hubby won't walk with you, and I agree with you on walking outside, but soon the weather won't permit that here and also the darker mornings.
I slipped and hurt my foot yesterday-all because I was cleaning, lol, So the walking is on hold for another week, I need to get back into shape so I quit hurting myself! I am not old enough to have all these problems.
Well, I better get off this computer and get busy!
have a great Tuesday everyone.

Sorry you are hurt again, Pamb...hope your foot and leg heal quickly. I know what you mean about needing to be in shape and when you are in good shape even when one does get injured the recovery is much easier. I realized this recently as my dh fractured his leg in June, but he was in very good shape and his recovery has been so much easier than either of us expected. And he is 75 years old! It was still difficult to go through for both of us of course but I know it would have been much harder if he hadn't been in such good shape. He has good upper body strength so could do a lot to lift himself and move around even at the worst time which made it much easier on me. PT has been very proud of how well he has done too. All of this has really made me realize even more how important it is to get and stay in shape!

Hi ladies,

I'm sorry that I haven't been around more, but have just been super busy! My son-in-law left for Iraq, and I've been trying to spend more time with my daughter and the children. Also, have been more active in church, and was gearing up for an annual party at my house. It was last night, and I am worn out, lol.

Pam - how's the foot? I hope it's much better by now.

Mary - I like to walk outside, best, too. Sometimes, on the way home from town, I'll have Neal drop me off down the road. Only problem with that is the weather doesn't always cooperate.

Trish - hope we haven't lost you to the diabetes forum for good! How are you and Tony doing?

A big hello to anyone reading this!

Not much planned for tomorrow. I want to finish a sweatshirt I'm appliquéing, and decide on a design for another shirt. I bought cheap ones from Walmart, and am doodling them up. No use spending much money on clothes that (I hope) won't fit me very long. I've got 45.2 pounds off now. Whoo hoo!

Have a good week!

Hiya ladies,
Seems we are all so busy, and the posts on this thread are so far and few between anymore, that I recommend those who haven't done so, to go ahead and jump in with the Golden Girls' chat. They are a great bunch with friendship, support and encouragement, and best of all, it's on a daily basis! I will try to check in from time to time over there.

Had a bit of a depressive week so far. Made an appointment to have a manicure and telephoned for an appointment in the morning so the woman chose the time suitable for her only to find that she wasn't there when I called. Waited nearly quarter of an hour but she didn't turn up!!

Had someone back into my car as I was waiting to drive into a parking spot. Couldn't back up out of the way as someone behind me and this stupid man stood and watched this car coming at me and never attempted to stop him. He only had to literally lift his arm and knock on the window to stop this car, he was that close! Thankfully there wasn't even a scratch on my vehicle which is amazing but it really shook me up.

Today I went to do some shopping and had phoned to book the mobile scooter that they have for disabled customers to use. However, on arriving the scooter was in use and I had to wait over half an hour for it to come back! Just not been my week at all. Ended up eating a rather large portion of chocolate gateau this evening so expect I will have quite a bad headache in the morning as am allergic to chocolate!

Emaline - well, you sure did have a disappointing week! I'm sorry all that happened. Hopefully, you'll find a new manicurist. Unless she had an emergency, not showing up is bad business practice. At least your car didn't have any damage after the impact, and you weren't hurt. Seems like stores are getting more scooters now days. Hopefully, your store will invest in another one, too. You just have to shake it off, and go on. I hope you don't have a headache today after eating the chocolate. Maybe you should get rid of any that is leftover to prevent future mishaps. Let today be a new day with a clean slate, and see what you can do with it. ((HUG))

Thanks for that Jane.
Actually the store in question was Tesco and they have 3 scooters and two of them have been out of order for sevral weeks now. Keep meaning to write a letter to headoffice about it. I know we are in a recession at the mo but Tesco? Should have enough profits to see them thro' methinks!
As for the gateau - yes I did get rid of it -- down my throat!
AND I didn't have a headache after all.

Best foot forward tomorrow - or should I say - today.

Hi Everyone, I am beginning to wonder whether this site has been abandoned?
Have just altered my signature/ticker as I have miscalculated somewhere. Problem is I weigh in stones and don't always get the correct result when changing to just pounds.

Have gotten everything booked up for visiting Edinburgh Tattoo Next August - for those that don't know - it's a military bands "show" with lots of different countries taking part and some can be very exilarating stuff, whilst others can be quite funny. Most of all I just love marching brass bands and bagpipes.
Am treating my daughter and her husband to a stay in a really nice and quite expensive hotel as she has said she will come with me.

Well, apart from the fact that my back is playing up really awful this last few days everything is jogging along reasonably well.

Hope you all are enjoying a nice day.

I'm a new Maintainer, and go all over this 3fc site. I'm also very weak with computer skills, and frequently cannot find my way back to where I've been.
I have on my little "Look it Up" pad, "What are Stones to Pounds" not to kilograms, because my math skills barely measure up to my computer expertise. Anyway, I'm in this site somewhere. A high of 186 pounds to 146pounds as of yesterday. That's good enough for me. Now to maintain and increase my strength and stamina. I've come to value my brawn more than my brain. Computer classes out, exercise classes in. No children, one childish husband. That may be pertinent.

Hi 4xcharm, Did you want a calculation or was that a rhetorical question? If the answer is to the affirmative why don't you Google your question - or ANY questions you may have - and there is plenty of charts etc, to choose from.

My sister, who is a bit of a comp geek has just taught me to move the tool bar and install an on screen keyboard for added security. Fascinating stuff!

Sorry to hear you have a childish husband - well, we all have a cross to bear!!
