Over 50 & Getting Lighter May/June

Hi Girls...Here is our new home for the next couple of months. Sorry I haven't been around to check in this weekend, but my eye has been giving me nothing but problem. My allergies have kicked in full force and my right eye has been weepy and swollen. It was infected on Saturday and Sunday, but has cleared up today. One stitch is gone, only four more to go.:D

Linda...Hope your eye surgery went smoothly. Love your new kitties, they are so adorable and I'm a sucker for animals. Like Hy, all my pet come from the Humane Society.

Hy...What new book are you reading? I just got a new one to read on the train.
It's called "The Quilter's Homecoming".

Jude...I have been struggling this weekend with wanting sweets, but didn't have anything in the house except fresh fruit. I WANT CHOCOLATE!!!! Hope you have a good week and the cravings go away for both of us.:D

Donna...Glad to hear you are getting a new roof for your garage and house and that's all the damage you had. I can't imagine hail the size of baseballs! I've only once experience hail the size of golf balls, and that was when I was 11.

Tomorrow is weigh-in day at WW and I think I stayed the same. It's been a struggle not to eat everything in sight this past week. Hubby and I have been eating more salads for dinner as a meal. Thursday morning we are leaving for Casper, Wyoming for a few days. Going out to pickup the 57 Suburban we bought, and it's a mini vacation my Hubby is giving me for my birthday. I'll be 54 on Sunday.:o Where does the time go?

Have a great evening.

Good Morning, Ladies . . .

The sun is shining this morning although the temp is certainly not May-like. Supposed to turn to rain again this afternoon, though . . .

Surgery went pretty well, but not quite as good as the left eye 6 weeks ago. Ended up having to have a stitch in this one and it is definitely more painful that way (Not to mention that the thought of having a stitch right in my eyeball makes my stomach churn.) At least I had a good night's sleep last night and the eye is feeling a little bit less painful this morning, but I certainly know it is still there. BGL has been dreadful . . . don't know what they pumped into me to "calm me down" during the surgery on Monday, but I wish it would soon go away.

So sorry to hear your eye has been so troublesome, CHERYL. Wow, I hope it is soon on the mend. Makes me feel dreadful that I'm whining about mine. :(

Kittens (and the rest of the cattage) are doing fine . . . although I feel like I've got 3 babies in the house and I always seem to be wiping little cat bottoms (they are not exactly the neatest in the litter yet). Doing the 'kitten shuffle' has become the standard way of walking for everybody who comes into my house to avoid stepping on one. I know they will be out of kitten-hood in the ;) of an eye so I'd better enjoy it while I can.

Been pondering long and hard about the upcoming hysterectomy and think I may delay it until the Fall . . . I've just about had enough for now what with the three minor surgeries so far this year and I really need a break. Haven't had any 'problems' since the one that started everything last September/October so it should be a safe little delay -- yeah, I know, famous last words. :dizzy: Haven't called the GYN yet. Going to wait until next week to see if I feel any differently about it by then.

Was wondering if you, Cheryl, or any of the other regulars in here have thought about joining up with the "Golden Girls" . . . it does seem to be pretty active in there? Maybe we should at least think about it???????

Anyway. . . guess I'd better get moving and shaking before the sun disappears again . . . Hope you all have a great day. See you later . . . :carrot:

Just thought I'd post a link to a good little article from the current issue of the D:Life Bulletin that I receive every week. D:Life is basically for Diabetics, but there is no rule that says everybody can't benefit from some of the information.

This article is about making healthier substitutions that will lower both the carb content and calories of some old favourites . . . http://www.dlife.com/dLife/do/ShowCo...thy_swaps.html . . .

Hope you enjoy the information . . .

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

I logged onto 3FC Sunday and Monday but found I couldn't post!!?? I wanted to wish Linda a successful eye operation! Sorry that didn't happen Linda...

I'm glad though to see you posted today (and thank you for the link!) Hope you feel better with each day. As far as the next surgery, it sounds like giving yourself this week to decide is a good thing. Surgeries are a big deal imo, plain and simple.

I am smiling as I read about your adorable kittens too - you DO have your hands full right now :D I love all pets but am of the opinion that there is nothing cuter than a kitten - they always look like someone just said "Boo!" to them - lol!

Cheryl I am wincing as I read what you've been going through!! What a time for some nice seasonal allergy symptoms, huh?????? You poor thing (too - both you and Linda!!)

I hope you have a nice getaway to WY - enjoy the scenery and just take it easy, OK?

Me, I'm hanging in there...now I'm working on leg cramps????? I think when I was feeling yucky I kind of got off my supplements and vitamins and even my thyroid meds (very naughty!!) and the cramps might have been a partial result of that...who knows but I'm finally back on track and hope the extra calcium and magnesium helps. I talked to my doc yesterday and she said to "up" those two.

Hope everyone else is doing well too - it's bedtime for me, so I'll check in tomorrow or Friday. AND hopefully be able to post - I don't understand what happened previously :?:

Hugs:hug:

Just quick  from me today . . .

I was out and about for around 4 hours today and then I spent a couple of hours trying to read this afternoon. My eyes are both aching and I'm so tired I can hardly keep them open, anyway. :(

My vision is so much better now that my glasses are next to useless. I can't read with them or without them -- my arms must have shrunk during the surgery, I guess. :dizzy: But I really need them for driving and distance vision, but the prescription is actually too strong and gives me a headache. :dizzy: I have to wait 3 to 4 weeks (until the second eye is deemed completely healed) before I can go to the optometrist to get new ones. Nothing works really well for looking at the computer either -- although it is easier than trying to read a book or magazine. Oh wow, something tells me this will be a long, long, month. :(

HY . . . those leg cramps can definitely be a calcium and/or magnesium deficiency . . . I often get them, too. Take the supplements and up your dairy consumption if you can. You are so right about kittens, they make me laugh so much . . . Just wish they'd stop treating me like a combination of chew-toy and scratching post . . . :D

Anyway, gang . . . I hope everybody keeps things moving and shaking and I will at least try to stop in for a quick hello again tomorrow . . . see you then. :carrot:

Donna72664 05-04-2007 10:49 AM

Good morning ladies, Can't believe it is FRIDAY again. Kind of glad though, it has been a hectic week both at home and work.

LINDA::hug: Hope your eye will be better soon. A stitch in the eyeball is pretty gross sounding, makes my eye itch just thinking about it;) I understand what you are saying about taking a break before another surgery. Glad you are taking a week to think about it, just don't let it go so long that you have more problems after you have it. The thought of a hysterectomy makes me nervous anyway, but the thought of any surgery makes me nervous.

HY: :kickbutt:I can't believe you let your thyroid medication slip after all you have been through to get it right !!!! You'd have to scrape me off the ceiling if I didn't take mine on schedule. But I'm gald to hear you are back on track now, sorry to hear you have leg cramps, those are not fun.

CHERYL: I missed your post before you left for Casper. Hope you have a good trip and don't run into any bad weather. Since I won't be here to log on before Monday:bday2you: Hope you have a great day.
I almost forgot to say thank you for starting our new thread for the next couple of months.

Don't have any plans for this weekend as we are supposed to have rain the entire time. In fact they are calling for some bad weather tonight, so I might be in my basement again !!! Just got some flowers planted in my big
planters by the garage so of course it will hail again. I just want it to get it out of it's system before next weekend when we have to travel for my
GD graduation. I went shopping yesterday for my "outfit" Boy do I hate the
styles and colors for this summer. The colors are all so dark, how depressing is that? I ended up with white slacks and a navy and white polka dot top.
I'll wear white sandals with it. My GD said she wanted me to look 'HOT' don't think that's going to happen :D Have I mentioned that I HATE to shop
Told my husband to never let me do that again. Every top except for sweaters were this new stretchy fabric, that's what I ended up with and to my surprise it doesn't look too bad, but I really don't like it. We live a ways from a large city, like a 2 hour drive, so we don't have much to choose from as far as stores go. I can't believe the prices, I'm also a cheap skate !!!!
Herbergers wanted $38 for a simple shell and $40 for a sheer long sleeved blouse to match, not from me they don't. OK enough :censored: I better go get busy before patients come in.
Have a great weekend and I will talk to all of you on Monday or at least I will read what you've been up to.

:coffee: DONNA

Hi gang . . .

Eye is still causing a pain both literally and figuratively . . . stupid weather isn't helping either . . . cold and rainy today and expected to continue for most of the weekend. Finally predicting some warmth for next Monday and Tuesday . . boy, I hope they are right. :^:

Kittens are still eating me alive . . . but they are so darn cute . . . it's hard not to laugh, even when they are bad. :D

Not much else going on for me . . . hope everybody has a great moving and shaking evening planned . . . will be looking forward to seeing you all really soon . . . :carrot:

Cheryl120 05-06-2007 12:40 PM

Hi Gang! Hubby and I got home late lastnight, and I was never so glad to get here! Casper, Wyoming was BEAUTIFUL and I could easily move there. Land is still pretty cheap and I so miss the mountains and trees.

Linda...So glad to hear your eye surgery went well. Just thinking about a stitch in the eyeball makes me cringe!!!! Sorry you are experiencing headaches, but sounds like you will need a weaker prescription when your eyes are healed up.
My eye is finally healed, but I wake up every morning and need to take a warm wash cloth to it. It weeps a little bit, but I hope this too will pass with time.
Linda, I have no problem with joining up with the Golden Girls. Why don't you see what Hy, Donna and Jude think.
Linda, I have to tell you that we took our cat Princess on the trip with us Woke up yesterday morning in the motel room and she could not be found. We finally found her after we took the matress/boxspring off and she was inside a wood platform base for the bed. She really had to squeeze herself to get inside in the first place. Darn cat! She doesn't come to kitty kitty either!
First thing we are going to check for from on before we let her out of her carrier. :D

Donna...We had a nice drive down to Wyoming and stopped at Devils Tower, it was so beautiful. Two hours from Casper, I ran into sever thunderstorm and no cover. Had hail, wind and rain and was so glad to get to Casper. We got up early Friday morning and got to the guys palce to load the truck up, and were there for 4 hours. I wanted to hit the road before the next storm came in. They were under a winter watch. Anyway we finally got on the road at noon and made it to Gillette, Wyoming for the night. Woke up early yesterday morning and it was pouring down rain and very windy. We had rain all the way home and got into sever thunderstorms in South Dakota and North Dakota. Thank goodness, no tornados. Casper ended up having 5" of snow.

Hy...Hope your leg cramps are getting better. I get them also, but don't take anything for them at this time, but up my water intake.

Well girls, it was nice to get away, but we ended up having trailer and truck problems. Stopped for gas in Wyoming and I noticed a low tire on the trailer. Hubby put air in it and said I needed to get going to the next town cause it was a leaking valve stem. Ended up stopping 10 miles down the road and it's a good thing that my husband brought 100 pounds of air, cause we had to fill it again. Anyway we made it to the next town where they could repair the tire. Got the truck loaded on the trailer and I was the one to drive first.
It just didn't feel right, so when I got back to Casper, I let my Hubby take over. We made it 30 miles from Casper and smelled something burning, turned out to be a tire on the trailer. The weight of the truck pressed down on the trailers inner fenders onto the tire, so we blew a tire. My hubby changed the tire, took out a big hammer and beat the :censored: out of the fenders. Had to drive 50 miles to the next town to buy a new tire for the trailer and have them put it on. Yesterday morning when we got ready to leave Gillette, WY, I noticed a low tire on the truck. Went to a tire place and we had a hole, so that got repaired. Other than that, we had a good trip, saw lots of prog horn antalope and beautiful country.
Well girls, my hubby is taking me to see Spiderman 3 and out to dinner, so have a great day.

Cheryl

I found the above Golden Girls thread - the May, and now June one. I'm going to pass and if you all decide not to carry on with this group, the Over-50, that's OK (I mean it won't hurt my feelings - lol!!) I'm a longtime member of a couple "social" groups online and just can't handle another, but GG's looks like a really fun and active group! I recognized some names posting there also.

Since I don't contribute that often here anyway, please just do what's best for each individual.

Hi gang . . .

Afraid I'm not having a great day . . . my vacuum cleaner, refrigerator, and stove have all decided to develop problems . . . think I've got the vacuum figured out and the replacement part is ordered . . . the stove I can live with for the time being . . . the refrigerator (that doesn't refrigerate things); well I don't even want to think about that -- naturally it will be the most expensive to replace out of the three.

Oh well, don't ask me what the connection is, but this morning helped me make up my mind to delay the hysterectomy -- probably just one more layer of stress I didn't want. So I have rescheduled for September 20 and I'm definitely looking forward to having nothing nasty on my plate this Summer.

MY BGL is still higher than I'd like, but it is fairly stable throughout the day now. I am definitely still retaining water because I can see it trying to hide out in my ankles. I'm staying away from the scale until the 23rd in the hopes that things will be back in balance by then.

Cats and kittens are fine -- crazy but adorable -- did you know that three kittens means 132 sharp little instruments of torture that they sink into me at will? --- 3 x 18 claws, plus 3 x 26 teeth --- all as sharp as little needles. Hope I survive their kittenhood. Aren't you all glad you've got me to keep you up-to-date on all this fascinating mathematical stuff? :p

Oh CHERYL . . . . . . Happy belated birthday. Glad you had such a fun trip . . . well except for that nasty little batch of weather. Amazing how full grown cats can 'disappear' isn't it?

Oh HY . . . . . . Absolutely no way would I want to lose your company, Chickie. It was just a suggestion, but the more I think about it, the more I think it might just be too busy in there sometimes. We'd probably get lost in the shuffle. :) This little group is so much like family.

Anyway . . . I'd better stop babbling now . . . I have a few other places to be and things to check into around some of the other forums. Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking kind of evening doing fun stuff. See you later . . . :carrot:

Cheryl120 05-08-2007 08:04 PM

Hi ladies...Thank you so much for your birthday greetings. I had a wonderful birthday. Went and saw "Spiderman 3", then went to Paradiso for my free birthday meal. I had a baked chimi platter and shared dessert with my hubby.

Today, my hubby and I bought a new/used car. Got a 2004 Dodge Intripid fully loaded and I love it. We decided to not trade our 97 Intripid, but let my hubby continue to drive it to work till it falls apart, or gets totaled by a deer. :D

The weather is beautiful today, 80 and I went out and did 1 hour of push mowing, so got my exercise in for the day. At least I got the front and side yard done today and will tackle around the out buildings, in front of the barn and around the garage and clothesline tomorrow.

Hy...I'm very happy to stay with our little group. Linda just mentioned it, since they are pretty active. I do like the idea they have of checking in each day of what they paln to eat, what they plan to do that day for exercise and what they plan to do for fun.

Linda...I think you made a wise choice to delay your surgery till fall, so you can enjoy your summer. Did you buy a new refrigerator? Mine makes a wierd noise, but it still cools. It's suppose to be frost free, but has ice building up on the back walls, so I defrost it from time to time. Evenually It will have to be replaced, but it is 20 years old. I would love to have one with the water and ice despenser, but we are on rural water, and it has a liottle hardness to it.

I need to post a picture of our cat Princess. She is something else, and marches to her own agenda. I don't think she knows what the word "kitty, kitty" means. She doesn't even come when you rattle her dish, and she is the first cat we have had, that doesn't like kitty treats. She adores my husband Jim, and I don't care where she is at, she comes running when she hears he is home. She waits not so patiently for him to take his shoes off and change his clothes, then sit in his recliner. Then she comes for a couple of love pats from me, then she lays between his legs on the foot rest. Spoiled, spoiled, spoiled!!

Have a good evening.

Cheryl

hyacinth merry 05-08-2007 11:51 PM

I was just giving my opinion about my thoughts on joining the other group - I hope it didn't sound like I was whining!!! Not what I meant - was just being honest that I don't have the time to stay current reading messages on another group that's a lot more active.

PLEASE understand that no one will be hurting my feelings if this group is disbanded!! I love you all but life goes on and I **can** check in on you all from time to time over on GG's too!!!

Hugs,
Hy

hyacinth merry 05-08-2007 11:54 PM

Cheryl it sounds like you had a wonderful birthday!! Dinner and a movie and a new car!!! That's quite a trifecta - lol!! Glad it was a special day for you :-)

Good Morning . . .

For some very, very strange reason :?: I am not feeling very chatty this morning . . . I'm sure this will pass quickly . . . I find it impossible to keep quiet for very long. :D

Have a great day, gang . . . see you later . . . :carrot:

PS --
Sorry HY, if you are looking for an excuse to escape from us, you're going to have to try harder
. . . ;)

Donna72664 05-09-2007 09:52 AM

 Good morning, gosh I didn't realize it had been almost a week since I had posted. Guess time flys when you're having fun, or is it working so much ??

CHERYL: I have to agree with you that Casper and that whole area are just gorgeous. Most people think Wyoming is a barren waste land. I'm glad you enjoyed that part of your trip just too bad the weather had to turn off so crummy and that you had so much trouble with tires. Sounds like hubby gave you a great Birthday. Well this is my big graduation weekend. I didn't make my original weight loss goal but I did lose another .8 lbs last week so I am not too upset with myself, still shooting for my original goal by the end of the summer tho.

MEOWEE: Sorry all of your appliances seem to be rebelling at once. We had that happen at our house about 2 years ago. I couldn't believe that after 25 years they wanted to die :) Just replaced them 1 at a time over several months. They are so expensive, but now these should last me the rest of my life. I had to laugh when you put all of your kitties toenails and teeth together and came up with that figure of razor sharp tools being used to attack you. Almost frightened me. LOL They are so cute at that age and so busy.
I have to agree that enjoying your summer sounds like a good idea. That way when Sept. comes you will be ready for your surgery and some rest.

HY: Don't feel like you are causing any problems about this GG thread. I don't have time to read a lot more either. I love our little group and it feels like family here. I'm staying here unless everyone else moves on. If we want
to post what we eat each day and our exercise that's fine, I just can't always get here everyday. I appreciate everyones support here it has gotten me where I am today.

Don't know if I will make it back to post the rest of this week or not, so much to do both here at work and at home to get ready for this weekend.
Where have Jude and Theresa gone? hope we didn't scare them off, maybe they didn't find us since we moved?
Take care I love you all, DONNA

meowee 05-09-2007 01:06 PM

They should be okay with finding us . . . I posted a link to the new one and then closed the old thread right after Cheryl opened this one . . . :) Hopefully they've just been busy too. ;)

hyacinth merry 05-10-2007 12:22 PM

Stuff has been crazy here and I'm trying to keep on track - have been falling back into the very bad habit (for me) of eating less at the beginning of the day and then more at night, when I finally have a moment to relax. Have already been down that road and don't want this to become a habit!! It's just that I have a lot to do and have more energy in the mornings. Well that's just TOO bad - lol!! So I forced myself to have some B'fast this morning and will work to keep up with that game plan.

I normally do eat B'fast and understand it is important to do so. But as I said, I just have had a very busy week, couple weeks really and for some reason, started "forgetting" to eat first thing in the morning.

Btw, I don't do protein shakes/bars and that kind of thing as I am really hesitant about what is in them - can't have soy due to thyroid either. And I just don't eat or drink stuff with ingredient lists mile long. Grabbing a shake or bar would be a lot easier, but this is my choice. I do have a low-carb recipe for some egg "muffins" that can be made ahead, refrigerated and then are easy to grab on the run. My low-carb B'fasts are mainly eggs done different ways...

I got a shipment of Vadalia onions a couple days ago and although onions are a little higher in carbs than some other veggies, I am going to enjoy them anyway :-) The other night I sauteed an entire onion in a skillet coated with Pam and then threw in some zucchini slices -yum!!

OK, enough True Confessions :D

Hi gang . . .

Wow, I have had 'one of those days' . . . the kind that just seem to disappear in the ;) of an eye. Got the two A/C units installed this morning and then started the old 'let's clean the corners and rearrange everything' routine. Eating has been in control and exercise has been all the furniture pushing and shoving, coupled with the removal of major dirt and debris. :D

Oh HY . . . yep, brekkie is important . . . in some ways maybe being a diabetic is lucky . . . if I don't eat breakfast, I'll really know it, so there is definitely no forgetting to eat in my world. You are very right, you need to break that habit. A handful of cereal and some fruit in a container of yogurt is pretty quick. Good luck . . .

Well, it is definitely dinner time, so I'd better get myself (and the feline menagerie) fed. Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking evening. See you soon . . . :carrot:

Cheryl120 05-10-2007 08:02 PM

Hi Chickies...Just got done doing an hour of mowing...My exercise for the day. :carrot: I have been slacking in that area, and know that is why I'm not dropping the weight like I was. I seem to have lost my motivation somewhere, but got a big boost of motivation from a friend today.

Hy...I know what you mean about finding time to eat breakfast. I was doing really good about not skipping this important meal, but then got back into my old habits and too busy to do it. Very bad mistake on my part, since if I don't take the time to eat breakfast, I over eat the rest of the day. I'm starting to plan and write down what I'm going to eat the next day and put it on front of my refrigerator. Maybe if it is staring at ME before I open the door, I will STOP and THINK ABOUT what it says, and stick to it. :D

Linda...Glad you got your new ac units, now you will be ready for that warm weather when it comes. It was 89 yesterday, but today is much nicer, about 72. At least I didn't feel like I was dieing when I mowed this afternoon.

Donna...Your outfit for graduation sound nice. I haven't decided what I'm wearing yet, it depends on what the weather is like. I'm leaning towards wearing my cocoa color crop slacks with a lite tan top. I still need to order a pair of sandles, but haven't found anything I like.

I'm not going to make my goal I set for myself either, but we still have the summer to work on it. I'm setting 5 pound weight goals for myself, and see if that helps me any. All I keep thinking about, is that I need to loose 200+ lbs.
Think that is setting me up for negitive thinking, and failure. I don't want to go down that road again.

Well girls, I need to go fix myself a salad and feed Princess since she thinks she is starving to death.

Meowee yes, I'd say you had a busy day there!! And lots of exercise too - the best kind, imo as you don't even hardly notice you're doing it! :D What did the kitties think of all the activity?

Excellent report and thanks for the encouragement on the B'fast issue - I know it is important but sometime you just need to hear it again...and again...and again :drill: LOL.

Cheryl that yardwork is such a great way to get in some exercise!! I think our ancestors knew the value of a hard day's work - makes for some very deep and restful sleeping if nothing else!! I know all my grandparents and back further farmed and they worked hard at it but at the end of the day they seemed happy with what they had accomplished. Anyway, yea for you for mowing the lawn - that's no easy task!!

Thanks for sharing your challenges about getting b'fast - I can't do some of the traditional stuff like the grains because of the low-carb diet I'm on and as I mentioned, I'm not doing the drink mixes, etc because of all the soy and garbage they put in them (imo). So it's :chicken: eggs, eggs and more eggs, :chicken: but fortunately I like them ;) I also bought a container of cottage cheese the other day - that's OK for my program also, but not something I eat very much. Thought I might try for a change however.

Anyway, I appreciate what you had to share

Cheryl That is an amazing statement - I mean that you are choosing to deal with this whole process one day at a time and not get all caught up in the how much. Wow, I needed to hear this too - :thanks:

Hi gang . . .

Just a quick zip through, I'm afraid. It has been another busy (and expensive) day. The Sears service man came early this afternoon -- fixed the stove (the one I cared the least about) -- told me he could fix the refrigerator (a leak in the cooling system) but it would be about $400. So I went out and spent $850 for a new one instead. It will be delivered tomorrow. Other than that, I'm just tired. . . and broke.

Still eating OP but no formal exercise worth discussing. Hopefully things will settle back into a normal, less expensive rut really soon. :dizzy:

Hope you all have a great evening planned . . . see you soon . . . :carrot:

Hi there, everybody . . .

Just a zipping through again . . . Wanted to let you know that I have refrigeration and, as the Martha would say, "It's a good thing". :D Hopefully my life will be back to boring normal again really soon and I'll have more time for on-line gossip.

In the meantime, keep things moving and shaking, gang . . . :carrot:

This article is GREAT!!! Thank you :-)

This, btw, is my 2nd attempt at a reply - the first one I wrote with some actual detail in it went missing in cyberspace. OF COURSE. Grrr......

Just thought I'd pop back in and give you this link to Discovery Channel. In the Myth Busters area, they have a cute little quiz based on some of those infamous "old-Mother's-tales" we've all heard (and probably used a lot of on our own kids).

Have fun, gang . . . :D

:dz: Is it Monday already ?? It is going to take me all week to recover from this weekend. But it was a fabulous weekend. I'm afraid there was NO dieting and NO exercise, except going up and down stairs at the motel.
Friday night we decorated for my GD reception and then went out for supper at a night spot where she sings karaoke, what a fun time that was. And NO grandma did not get up and sing !!!! but sure enjoyed watching some others make real fools of themselves. Is laughter considered a form of exercise ?? The graduation was fun, just a small class of 35 so pretty informal and very personal and very very HOT~!!!.Yes I shed a few tears.
Following her reception they had an informal carry in supper at their home in the country put on by friends and family, a great time for all to relax and get caught up on everyones lives. Yesterday my girls wanted to take me out for lunch and I told them I would really rather we just sat around her house and visited, no one was really very hungry and I don't like to eat a big meal and then get in the car and travel, especially 4 hours and it was 94 out. We had a lot of fun remembering their graduations and just laughing about silly things. I hated to have to leave. Well enough about me, I didn't weigh in this week but will on Saturday or Sunday, need to get some of this weekend out of my system, a little too much beer and high cal foods.
Hope all of you had a wonderful MOTHER'S DAY.

Breakfast is my favorite meal and I usually eat it but I too have been kind of lax in that department. Let's make it a goal for the rest of May to get back on track with breakfast!

CHERYL: I'm really excited for you now for your graduation, it is so wonderful and gratifying to set there and watch a grandchild graduate. It is really pretty surreal. When do you leave? Hope you find the sandals that you want to go with your outfit, it sounds cute and nice and cool.
Don't look ahead at how much you still want to lose, that will overwhelm you and defeat you, look at how far you have come so far and what you have accomplished. We all have faith in you so keep going, you'll get there.

HY: Thanks for the "BRAVO" It feels good to know that out there someone I have never meant cares about how I am doing with my weight battle. I am starting to feel good about myself again and think that will spur me on.
You mentioned you got some Vadalia onions in, those are so gooood.

MEOWEE: Hope I get the kind of motivation you got, I need to move my furniture around and get some deep cleaning done. Want to shampoo my living room and dining room carpets now that I'm done with my wood burning stove. I'm sorry you had to put out money for a new fridge but hey at least now your food is cold. I haven't had a chance to go to the link to the Discovery channel yet but I will, thanks for sharing it with us.

Have roofers at my house today so bet my poor little dog is going crazy with all the noise and strangers around. She was such a good girl this weekend with all the different places we had to go, she was so tired she could hardly get going this morning, or was that me ?
Better get busy you gals have a great day and be sure you eat breakfast tomorrow!!!

Perfume scam

Don't know if any of you have received an e-mail about this or not and don't know if it is even true, but I for one am not taking any chances.
It seems that there are people out there that are approaching women in truck stops and parking lots asking them what type of perfume they wear and then offering to have them smell different ones to compare or find a new one that they might wish to purchase. The catch is that what they are offering for them to smell is ether so when they take a whiff they pass out and then the cons can rob them or worse ?
Ladies pass this on to all of your gal pals and daughters, this is just so scary and could so easily happen to any of us. Let's arm the women we know with the power to stop this sort of nonsense.

Hi Gang...Hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day! My hubby was a real sweetheart and didn't make me get up at 4:30 to fix him breakfast before he headed off to work. It was soooo nice to sleep in, and I just lounged around and watched movies. Hubby took me out for dinner, so that was nice also.

Donna...Your granddaughter's graduation sounds so nice. Sounds like you had a wonderful time visiting with family. I leave early on the 29th and can't wait to see everyone. My granddaughter class is very large, so large that they are having the ceremony at a site away from the school. We are having a BBQ for her on Sunday, since after graduation all the seniors go to a locked in grad party. I'm still looking for shoes and haven't found anything I like.

Linda...What to come and help me move furniture? I swear the minute I mention the word, my husband is no where to be found, and I can't do it by myself. I have a large sectional, which I can't budge by myself and a entertainment center. Oh to go back to the simple life when I didn't have so much.

Hy...I bought a set of cd's on weight loss. It is brain wave therapy that I listen to with headphones on while laying down and relaxed. One is on weight loss and the other is Slim Naturally. I really like them, and the idea to take time for me and meditate, listen to the music and what is being said. I'm hoping it will help me get rid of all the negitive remarks that are still playing over and over in my head.

Well tomorrow is weigh-in day at WW. I'm hoping for a loss, so will let you know either way. to you all.

Cheryl

Oh Phooey . . . Afraid I have to apologize for another quick  again this morning.

Sears sent the wrong part for my vacuum (even though I gave them the model, serial, and oart numbers when I ordered it). :( They tell me that is all they have with that number and it won't fit my machine. So, guess I'm off to the nearest vacuum repair centre (two towns away) to see what they can do for me, even though I've had a not perfect experience with their work in the past. Only other alternative would seem to be another new appliance and this vacuum is only three years old and was not a cheapie to begin with -- talk about planned obsolesence.

To top things off . . . we have a snow warning . . . SNOW????? on the 16th of May????? :?:

Anyway . . . keep things moving and shaking, gang . . . hope to see you later . . . :carrot:

Hi there . . .

We got it after all . . . not just the snow, but rain, then freezing rain, then hail, then snow, and now back to rain . . . roads aren't too bad, but my front and back porches are just covered in ice . . . other than that, nothing much is going on around here . . . but then, who needs more than that.

Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking kind of day planned. See you all later, gang . . . :carrot:

Cheryl120 05-17-2007 10:01 AM

Morning Chickies...

Did really good at weigh-in yesterday...Down 1.3 pounds. :carrot: :carrot: I really wasn't expecting a loss since I have eaten out so much this pass week, but I have been more aware of what I choose to eat, not over loading my plate, nor going back for more, just because it's there and I can. Now I'm trying to figure out what I can take on the train to eat. I refuse to pay their prices for a meal. Any ideas you gals have would be great! I'll be on the train for 32 hours.

Linda...Snow, freezing rain and ice. :yikes: Just makes you want to crawl back in bed and pull the covers over your head. We didn't have snow, even tho the weather changes very fast here, but we were down to 32 for a low and only made it to the 60's. It kind of shocks the system when the day before we were 89.

Well I'm off to get my morning dishes done before I head off to my room. I haven't done any sewing for a couple of days and I have a few things I need to get made before I leave on my trip. Also need to get my walk in, but looks like I need to dress in warmer clothes before I do that. Taking Ozzy to the Doggie Spa this afternoon, so he will be a pretty boy when he comes out.

Have a great day, stay on program and get some exercise in for the day. Your heart will thank you.

Sorry to be MIA again...one of my younger pets has been having some problems and after several vet visits, we decided to take her on to a specialist. Awaiting test results from the initial internal medicine vet visit and hoping for good news!

Congrats Cheryl on the weight loss - that is wonderful!! See, you are doing just fine :D I'm proud of you too!

I haven't weighed myself this week but I have been staying with my program and not doing any "stress" eating. Mostly trying to make sure I take care of myself and take my supplements and all...when I'm worried or distracted I tend to "forget" to take care of my own health issues ;) I got a massage this morning and that is very helpful, imo, to manage stress.

Going to take it easy this weekend or try to - I have "Ultraviolet" and "Night at the Museum" DVD's to watch for the weekend and maybe I can read a bit too. Hope everyone else here has a good weekend also!

Hugs,
Hy

Hi girls . . .

This is the beginning of the Victoria Day long weekend in Canada . . . the traditional time for opening the cottage; planting the Spring garden; and other things that usually get done when the weather finally warms up enough. That certainly will not be happening in Atlantic Canada this year. :( Nothing but cold, dull, dreary in the forecast for the whole weekend. At least yesterday's snow has melted again.

Nothing exciting on my agenda . . . thought I'd do a little sewing . . . if the weather ever does warm up, I "have nothing to wear". So far, not so good. The two old guys have figured it out over the years, but it amazing how much damage Purrecious and the three kittens can do in the middle of a pile of fabric and tissue paper. Guess I'll have to shut them all in one of the bedrooms for a while -- too bad the room where the kitty litter lives doesn't have a door. :o

Oh wow, CHERYL . . . that is a long trip . . . about all I can think of that will last are nuts and some little baggies of dry cereal . . . maybe some cut up raw veggies for the first 10 hours or so and some fruit, of course. Congrats on your loss, BTW . . .

Gee HY . . . hope the pet problem is cleared up soon and that it is nothing too awful . . . Have a good movie-watching weekend.

Well, it's almost time to feed the menagerie again . . . maybe they will all go to sleep after dinner and I'll get something cut out. Keep things moving and shaking this evening, gang . . . see you soon. :carrot:

I hope your baby is going to be better very soon! Looking at the picture you have displayed..is that baby a maltese? I have 2 maltese, Stitch and Murphy and a Catahoula named Roux.
The one in the picture looks very much like my "Stitch". When we got Murphy (8.5 years ago) we did not realize he was deaf for about a month. I realized it when he just layed in a little ball sleeping one day while I vacuumed around him About 3 years ago he started going blind. Bless his heart, he does just fine for all his problems and he's only about 3.5 lbs..tiny little thing and rules the house!

My daughter's boyfriend's dog , Molly, a lab, was sick for a very long time.."upset tummy". (nuf said about the "upset" but nothing would stay up or down..not pretty... and she was so emasicated you could see all of her spine and ribs sticking out). Dan spent a fortune bringing her from one vet to the next. Finally one recommended a specialist. They did a xray and found a "mass" in her intestines and told Dan it was probably one of 3 things and 2 of them were fatal. He was devistated. The following Monday they did surgery. They came out in the middle of the surgery to tell Dan and Marie what the problem was...A SOCK! Apparently Molly had eaten one whole! They were much relieved and called me laughing and crying at the same time. Miss Molly is just fine now. A 3 thousand dollar sock! My daughter has a tiny little Yorkie named Coco. When they come to visit, we have five dogs in the house! It's a little crazy, but they all get along well, thank goodness.

We had another dog until last year. Scout was 11 and developed dimentia. He started snapping at the other dogs (who he loved) and was walking sideways and had a "lost" look on his face. When my Dad passed away last May, we brought all the dogs to the vet to board for a few days to go to the funeral in Mississippi and deal with what had happened. Poor Scout was in such bad shape the vet put him to "sleep" that day. It was a rough week.
