Hi gang . . .

Sorry that I'm not feeling very chatty today. It's still raining and very cold around here . . . gets depressing really quickly. :( Not much else going on in my life either. Hopefully the weather and my mood will pick up again soon.

Have a great moving and shaking kind of day, everybody, and I'll see you again soon . . . :carrot:

Hey Femme, thank you for the good wishes for my little dog and yes, the avatar pic is of one of my maltese...I have 3 :D My first little malt came to me from an animal shelter back in 1986 and we've had maltese ever since! The little guy in the pic is not the one that's been sick however. We're hoping with the specialist vet, she can track down what the problem is with our one little dog and get things going for her.

Wow, that whole "dog that ate the sock" deal is amazing!! I'm glad the pup made it through the ordeal!

Anyway, nice to meet another maltese fan on 3FC's

Meowee I hear you about how the weather can make a huge difference in your mood/energy level!! I'm sorry you have crummy weather for Victoria Day Weekend :(

We certainly don't have many rain worries here in the US Southwest desert, well except for worrying about not getting ANY rain, but even with all the sunshine, sometime when it's very, very hot, and is that way EVERY SINGLE DAY, it gets to me and I just don't even want to go out. So I just wanted to say I sympathize with you and hope that the weather gets its act together and lets you have a nice summery day!! :D

How are the new kittens doing, btw?

 Hugs,
Hy

Donna72664 05-21-2007 10:41 AM

Good morning ladies,
To our friends in Canada, Happy Victoria Day !!

Sorry I didn't get back here last week, time just seems to be flying by and I can't seem to get caught up on anything. When I weighed last week I had to weigh early as we were gone for 3 days and I had gained that .8 lbs back, but when I weighed yesterday I had lost 1.2 lbs, so I'm beating some of it off but kind of struggling with about 1/2 lb that just comes and goes. I think a lot of it this time of year is water, as I drink constantly, especially if I spend a lot of time outdoors, which I did this weekend.

CHERYL: :hug:Congrats on your weight loss !! Keep up the good work. 32 hours on a train, that sounds like a very long time, hope you have some good books with you, or cross stitch or something. Taking food could prove to be a problem. Can you take a small cooler with you for veggies and maybe some Slimfast drinks or something on that order? I just bought some of the WW cereal, that is really good and would make a great snack. Peanut butter sandwiches pack well and are filling also. Good luck and I hope you have a great trip. By the way, how are the CD's doing you talked about, sounds interesting.

MEOWEE: Sorry your weather has been so awful. It has finally gotten nice here except for wind that blows constantly. Today they say 25 - 30 mph.
Did you get all your kitties settled down so you could get some sewing done? I know what you mean about no clothes. It is great to lose weight but then you have to change your wardrobe. Hope you get some new pieces done by the time the weather straightens out.

HY: How is your baby doing? I sure hope it isn't anything life threatening.

Better get busy and go walk on the treadmill. Hope all you gals have a great day and a better day tomorrow.

Whoooopppeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have not weighed myself in about 2 years. I hate scales..HATE them. I don't think my weight changed much in those 2 years..same clothes/size fit during that time. ...
I could not resiset when I saw scales at school today and I gave in and hopped on...
Today starts week number 6 I've been on South Beach, and I've lost 18lbs...
yippeee! Now I just have to lose it two more times and I'll be me again!

Donna72664 05-21-2007 05:07 PM

femmecreole: Welcome to our little group and you should be very proud of yourself. Losing 18 lbs. is no little accomplishment, that is wonderful.
Congratulations !!!!!! YEA !!!!!! Way to Go !!!!!! YOU Rock !!!!!
Keep up the good work. DONNA

Hi gang . . . So sorry I've been on the missing list.

Yesterday, I discovered my water heater had decided to start leaking. Try not to have semi-major disasters in a small town on a holiday weekend . . . Wow - hope I find my plumber tomorrow (guess he's been out of town for the Victoria Day weekend - although the weather has been a total disaster, too); and hope he can fit my water heater into the morning or at least give me a definite time (because I have a previously scheduled appointment at 1:00). :( The water heater problem has managed to soak the broadloom in the hall downstairs (about a three-foot section) and the kittens seem to find the smell of the wet rug 'fascinating' (KWIM). Oh well, one more odour won't make that much difference, I guess -- will give it a really good cleaning once the problem is resolved. :o Other than that . . . the feline menagerie is doing great. :)

Today, one of my ex-employees (pre-my-retirement) was at work (even though it is a holiday) and was whining for help, so that kept me rather busy . . . at least it took my mind off the plumbing problems.

Did manage to get some sewing done -- and that provided me with a wonderful NSV, of sorts. I cut out a couple of outfits using some old patterns that I've made before (a few years ago). They are the kind where you get four sizes on the same tissue . . . last time I cut the largest size . . . this time I cut the smallest. :D What a thrill -- finally something really tangible to remind me that I have lost over 50 pounds (even though I'm not exactly dropping by much so far this year).

Actually . . . 2007 has been kind of a :p in a lot of ways so far - and May especially - hopefully things will improve soon . . . I'm getting tired of this stuff.

Hi DONNA . . . Glad you are having sopme nice weather. Don't you worry, that mysterious 1/2 pound will soon get lost for good.

Hi HY . . . Hope your fur-baby is feeling better. I really don't like it too hot either (I know, fussy, fussy). Well, actually since I can't remember ever experiencing a dry heat (when it's hot here, it's also terribly humid), I don;t know for sure how I'd feel about your climate. :dizzy:

Hi FEMME . . . :welcome: to our group and congratulations on that nice loss so far. You are so right . . . it is hard to love the scale- most of the time. ;)

Have a good moving and shaking evening everybody . . . see you soon. :carrot:

Cheryl120 05-21-2007 08:40 PM

Hi ladies...Just a quick pop-in for tonight. :D We have nasty weather coming in and I don't want to be on the computer, plus Dancing with the stars will be on.

Femme...Welcome and way to go on your weight loss! 18 pounds is AWESOME!!!

Donna...I'm taking a small cooler with me. Right now I plan on taking a container of cut up watermelon/pineapple, maybe a salad, cut up veggies, fruit in yogurt and a couple packages of instant oatmeal. I'm hoping the water in the restroom is drinkable. Also taking my water bottle and a package of lemon drink mix. I have a new book to read, cd's to listen too, counted cross stitch, plus I plan on listening to the weightloss cd as well. I haven't had time to listen to on a daily basis, and I need to slow down and take some time for me. Donna, I don't know if my granddaughter is going to graduate or not, I will know on Wednesday. She has been goofing off all year, skipping class and not taking it seriouly, now she is busting her butt, and it might be too late. Kids!!!

Hy...How is your little dog doing? Ozzy knows that something is up, and is stuck to me like glue. He will probably drive Jim nut with his whinning for the next 3 weeks.

Linda...Gosh! Sorry to hear your waterheater is on the blitz!!! This has not been your month for appliances, and they don't make them to last like they did eons ago. I cooked lunch yesterday and turned the burner off, only the button said it was off, but the light was still on and the burner was hot. Took Jim about 20 minutes to get it to turn off. Guess that is the next thing to go around here.

Well girls, I colored my hair tonight and it didn't turn out the color it said on the box. It was a very light brown with grey and now it's black. It doesn't look bad and I guess it will grow on me. At least it will be gone in a couple of months.

Have a great night.

Cheryl

Hi gang . . . . . . Wow, where have we all been hiding lately? It is way too quiet in here . . . and I know I'm just as guilty as any body else.:o

Just a quick little hello to everybody:wave:. Don't know where the day has gotten to. At least nothing else has broken down today (at least not that I've discovered yet :( ) and the water heater has been replaced.

Went to the optometrist and ordered new glasses today . . .yippee . . . soon I should be able to see properly again. Of course, I'll also be broker. ;)

Another yippee . . . Finally got weighed after my 4 week abstinence and got to move my ticker 3.2 pounds further east. Not much for almost a month, but lots better than watching it go up and down every week . . . happens to all of us from time to time, I know. Will try for another 4 weeks of no peaking.

Have a great evening, gang . . . keep things moving and shaking and I'll see you again really soon . . . :carrot:

meowee 05-24-2007 08:23 AM

Good Morning . . . . . . come out, come out, wherever you are . . . . . . and I hope it's someplace fun. :D

hyacinth merry 05-24-2007 03:53 PM

I'm running behind on everything, including reporting for duty here! LOL!! :p

I've managed to gain a couple pounds back....hmmmmmm......well, better to know now and not pretend I didn't seeing it coming ;)

Went to the local 'health food' grocery store this morning and got all my foods for the upcoming long weekend. My little dog is improving under the care of a vet specialist. What a HUGE relief - she is not very old. So I hope things can quiet down here for a few days. Once can always hope, right? :crossed:

I also got a couple books and hope to read and relax this weekend!!

Cheryl I didn't reply to your request for snack suggestions for your train trip, but what the rest of the group mentioned sounded like great suggestions. I am a big nut NUT, so those are always good to have on hand for snacking, imo. (If you can eat nuts - I know some people can't!) Once you decide what you're going to take, please let us know as I'm interested in case I get to take a little day trip in the car somewhere.

Hugs to all

Hi Everyone...Hope you all are getting ready to have a very nice and safe Memorial Weekend. Jim and I were going to take our boat out and see how it runs. We got it back from the repair shop a couple of months ago, but it is suppose to be cold, windy and rainy for us. :( Sounds like typical Memorial weather we are going to have.

I have been busy the last couple of days finishing a quilt, putting a tag on the quilt I'm giving to my sister-in-law and starting a new quilt so I have some hand work to work on while on the train. The new quilt is a pieced buterfly block, and I will embroider the antenna's on them.

Went to Weight Watchers yesterday and I gained 2 pounds. Water retention, because I was down 2 pounds this morning. :D I'm getting excited for Sunday to get here. Jim and I are going to spend the night in Fargo since I have to catch the train at 3:10 AM, Don't want to take the chance of hitting a deer on our way down.

I'm taking a couple containers of Dole Fruit Parfaits, canadian bacon, a couple hard boiled eggs, toss salad and my salad dressing, and I'm going to buy 2 chicken breast from KFC and also a container of cut up cantalope/watermelon. That should keep me content and on program.:D

Hy...I absolutely NUTS...but they don't like me, they plug me up, and they are just like potato chips, I just can't have one!!!

I'll try to check in with you all tomorrow.

Cheryl

Donna72664 05-25-2007 11:08 AM

:hug:Hope everyone has a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend. Looking forward to some time off with no great plans.

CHERYL: Sounds like you are well prepared for your trip. That's awfully early to get on the train !!! Hope you have a safe journey and a great visit. Sorry to hear that your GD might not graduate, hopefully she got it together and will. I will probably have that worry with my GS in 4 years, unless he changes a lot. We will be anxious to hear all about your trip when you get back.

HY: Glad to hear that your little dog is doing better. Where did those 2 lbs come from ??? darn things they sure can sneak up on us. Sounds like you are all ready for the weekend with your healthy foods and good books.
Have a great one!!

MEOWEE: It has been quiet here this last week and I too am guilty of not showing up. I do stop by every day and read but don't always have anything to add to the conversation.Congratulations on being able to move your ticker. 3.2 lbs is a great loss, be proud of yourself. Glad also that you haven't had anymore gremlins in your house, why do all your appliances seem to go at once? Mine did the same thing a few years back.

We are getting ready to have a new heat pump put in, my husband just informed me that instead of replacing our air conditioner we will just add more to the insurance check and get a heat pump.Supposedly they are more efficient on electricity, sure hope so. Don't have any great plans for the long weekend. Would like to go fishing but our weather is supposed to be rainy too, which is normal for this weekend. We will have to do some rearranging and cleaning in our basement for this new heat pump but that shouldn't take us too long. Hoping for a chance to meet our youngest daughter and her fiance and our grandson for lunch either Sat. or Sun.
I'd better get busy my dryer just buzzed me, have a fun weekend and be careful with those cookouts.
:sunny:DONNA

meowee 05-25-2007 05:13 PM

Hi gang . . .

Not one of my better days . . . I've had a hemorrhage in my left eye (doesn't really hurt, but sure looks awful) and I've got a sore throat and a very sore right shoulder. Oh yes, I got the bill for the installation of the new water heater . . . Can$650 . . . Oh, and a further bunch of fun . . . somebody (think it is Frickle) has decided to pee on the couch in the family room two mornings in a row now. So, I bought some cheap vinyl upholstery fabric to make a simple throw for it until they outgrow this little nastiness -- I know they are still babies and most of the time they do very well, but . . . yuck. :dizzy:

Took them to the Vet yesterday for their second round of shots . . . they are all nice and healthy, with no signs of any parasites or genetic problems and they are growing like weeds, although Frackle is lagging a bit behind. She weighed in at 2.5 pounds whereas Frickle and Freckle are 3.1 pounds each. Vet says not to worry, she'll probably catch up again.

Not much else going on around here . . . have to admit that I've not been eating too well since my WWI -- or actually, I guess it's more along the lines of I'm eating too well . . . no junk, just too much. :o Not much in the exercise department either -- unless you count scrubbing the couch every morning.

Anyway I hope you all have a great Memorial Day Weekend and that you hve much better weather than we had for Victoria Day. Keep things moving and shaking, Chickies . . . see you all soon . . . :carrot:

hyacinth merry 05-26-2007 02:49 PM

Yes I hope everyone has a great weekend and some decent weather. :sunny:

I went out to B'fast this morning - the first time in YEARS, I'm not kidding. It was OK but I guess I haven't been missing much - lol. At a nice place and all tho.

Hope to get some pool time this weekend - the water is warm enough (we don't heat), but I'll have to be careful about the time of day as the pool isn't shaded very well. I have a special fabric water shirt I wear that the blocks the sun, so that helps a lot. Whatever, I'm going to enjoy a couple swims and not worry about nothin' :swim:

Hugs to all  And a special double hug   to Meowee - I know those kinds of days, weeks, months, like you mention! Hope things get straightened up right away!!

Just a quick pop-in to say bye and hugs to all my friends.  We are leaving in an hour and I think I have everything packed. My little dog Ozzy knows that something is up and I hope he does OK while I'm gone. Also think I have my hubby squared away, and I have plenty of food in the house for him.

The rain and cold weather has finally left. :carrot: Woke up to the sun shining, nice and warm out. Well I will see you gals on June 15th. Kept moving the scales downward, I know I'm going to work really hard to come back with a loss and not a gain. :D

Hugs to you all,

Hi there . . .

Sorry I've been missing the past couple of days, but I've had an incredibly awful migraine. I'm sure it's the stress of my appliance-gremlin  filled May and all that has entailed (along with the kitten-related things, of course). Our weather has taken another turn for rainy and cooler again too. :(

Sorry I missed your departure, Cheryl . . . hope you have a really great trip.

Enjoy the pool, Hy . . . and the warm weather.

Hope everybody is having a great Memorial Day. . . keep things moving and shaking, gang . . . see you soon . . . :carrot:

Hi gang . . .

Where are you all hiding? I know Cheryl is away, but where are the rest of you? Wherever you are, I hope you are having a bunch of fun keeping things moving and shaking.

See you later . . . :carrot:

Donna72664 05-30-2007 11:57 AM

:tantrum::censored: I don't believe it, I had my post all done and went to look it over and my computer blipped and it was gone !!! Why or why does it do that.?

Ok we'll try this again. I hope this finds all of you having a good week. I didn't think I would ever say this, but, "I'M SICK OF RAIN!!!!!" It rained a little every day of our long weekend. Then about 3:30 Tuesday morning it just poured and then it misted on and off most of the day then about 5:30
yesterday evening it just opened up and really rained for a good 5 hours.
Our rain guage showed 4" this morning and they are calling for more today.
Good thing I took my hanging baskets of flowers to the garage last night or they would have blown away plus drowned. We have towns just south of us that have anywhere from 8-15 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. One county has closed all of their county roads as they have either washed out or bridges have washed away. Lots of low land flooding now.We did get a chance to take our boat out fishing for a while on Sunday afternoon, it was cold and windy and had to wear hooded sweatshirts, YUK, but we caught enough fish for a couple of meals and we had fun, no phones or tv, just the quiet sounds of nature, love it.

MEOWEE: Hope your migraine headache has gone away and the appliance gremlins are gone for good, I mean what else could they attack ? What is up with that naughty kitty, deciding to pee on your couch, was she feeling neglected:shrug:just kidding. They are fun but can be so naughty sometimes

HY: Did you get a chance to go for a swim in that pool. That sounds so relaxing, there is just something about the water. I don't swim, but I do like the water for relaxation.

Hope Cheryl gets a chance to check up on us while she is gone. Know she will have a wonderful trip.

My Avon lady just brought my order and some new wish books so am going to take a minute to check them out before I go to lunch. You gals have a good day and a good rest of this week. I'll peek back before the weekend.

Hi again . . .

Our weather is still not the greatest -- about 16C/61F is the forecast high for the day and there is a frost warning for tonight -- I will definitely be glad to see the backside of May for a lot of reasons. :D Hopefully June will be better. ;)

Wow, DONNA . . . We've had a lot of rain (and cold) this month, but nothing like you are going through -- hope it clears up soon.

Well gang . . . keep things moving and shaking . . . see you later . . . :carrot:

hyacinth merry 05-31-2007 08:43 PM

Yep I did get to swim and it was great! :swim: I know tommorrow is June 01 and I like to do "goals for a month" so maybe I'll consider a swim 5 or even 7 days a week for the month....hmmmm....must be ready to commit if that's what I decide to do. I'll let you all know!

I've been terribly lazy or distracted or something all week - can't seem to focus on ONE project and instead have about 50 going on simultaneously and not one finished!!!:tantrum:

I choose to blame it on the full moon :D

Staying on my program but I also may overhaul a bit for June. I'm having a problem with finding veggies I can eat - the low carb deal retricts several and then I can't do a lot of the raw veggies that interfere with the thyroid. At some point I've started getting tired of just eating green beans, romaine lettuce, cukes and tomatoes every single day!!! Oh well, I'll live!

Hugs to all

Hy

meowee 06-01-2007 09:03 AM

Happy to see June . . . . . . Wow.

Just thought I'd stop by with a quick . This has been a busy morning for me so far . . . starting new monthly threads and closing old ones.

Good luck finding some new veggies to eat HY . . . . . . How about baby spinach for a change? Mushrooms? . . . I really feel for you, girl. I'd be lost if I couldn't eat my cruciferous (brocolli and cauliflower are staples for me). How are you with asparagus? That's my all-tme favourite veggie . . . and tomatoes, of course (although they are really a fruit).

See you soon, everybody . . . hope you have a great moving and shaking kind of day planned . . . :carrot:

Donna72664 06-01-2007 09:38 AM

:flow2: It is June !!!! Certainly hope this brings about a change in the weather.
However it is raining again this morning.

HY and MEOWEE: Sounds as if you gals are doing great. Maybe a new month will give us a new surge of energy to keep going on this weight loss journey we are on. I found this comment on another weight loss group and I thought I would pass it on here:
"Remember, we all stumble, everyone of us. That's why it's a comfort to go hand in hand" ----Emily Kembrough
I believe that is what we are doing here,so I'm asking for your help, Hang on to my hand so when I do stumble you will keep me from falling.

HY you are blaming the full moon, good idea, I'm blaming this dreary weather. I too am having trouble staying with any one thing, especially my eating plan and exercise. I'm getting so bummed out, if the sun ever gets out and stays out that will help:crossed:

Not anything new to report, hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Hi gang . . .

Weather is definitely improving a little around here . . . sun keeps peeking out and weather is supposed to be around 20C/70F today . . . although they are predicting a cool one again tomorrow and then warmer with rain for Monday. Hey . . . remains to be seen what will really develop. :dizzy:

DONNA . . . consider your hand held, girl . . . we all need all the support we can get on this long and winding road to better health and fitness . . . together we can all do it . . . :grouphug:

Keep things moving and shaking, kiddos . . . see you all later . . . :carrot:

MiddleSister 06-02-2007 08:48 AM

Need Support Please

I've been away for awhile. My body is changing for the worse, I noticed my knee now has the flab of fat on the inside of my leg. I'm getting bigger and bigger. I do not have a colon due to ulcerative colitis and have problems eating raw and some cooked veggies. I love veggies, but they don't love me. My feet have been so swollen this week at work I thought I might have to leave and go home just to prop them up. Can you all relate to this?
I made an appointment to talk to a doctor about WLS. I go the 16th for the consult. That seems so drastic.
I need to do this myself and with the support of friends like this board will see me thru. Pray for me, my body aches.

meowee 06-02-2007 08:56 AM

Just stick out your hand, SISTER . . . . . . We are all here for you, too. Make 3FC a daily habit . . . it really does seem to help.

settie 06-02-2007 10:19 AM

That's a tough one. Is this a specialist you are seeing? The first one? Do you have a regular doctor you can really trust. Be sure to get all of the information (both pros and cons) that you can before making the decision. I haven't had this surgery but I've had enough other ones to know that you want to go into it with ALL of the info you can get.

Good luck with your decision and keep us up to date. :)

meowee 06-03-2007 11:15 AM

Hi there, Chickies . . .

Hope everybody is having a great Sunday. The "sun" is actually shining here in Atlantic Canada this morning and that always makes my mood a little more :sunny: too.

My best news for the day is that I picked up my new glasses yesterday and I can actually "SEE" . . . Yippee . . . I can read and watch TV at the same time, again (as silly as that sounds, it's something I do all the time). Actually bought myself a new book to celebrate . . . The Eat Clean Diet, by Tosca Reno, a Canadian who writes a regular column for Oxygen Magazine. Some interesting stuff. Not really a "diet" just information about 'clean/healthy' eating habits. :D

Hope everybody is having a great moving and shaking weekend . . . also hope to see you all again soon . . . :carrot:

Meowee that sounds like an interesting book. Let us know what you think of it. The 'clean/healthy' eating is what I've been into for over 10 years now, trying to do smart organic (meaning actually researching and knowing as best as I can where the food is produced. Not just taking an advertisement's word for it - lol) Also avoiding processed anything. And it is a continual learning experience, for me anyway. If you like the book, I might ask my library to order it here.

Yea! on the new glasses - I'm really happy for you that your surgery and it's side-effects FINALLY paid off. Eyesight truly is a gift. :book2:

Hugs to you

MiddleSister I don't think speaking with a doctor is drastic and that's all you're going to do right now  It's smart to get info, plain and simple. I haven't had WLS and don't know anyone personally that has, so can't really say much one way or another, but perhaps it might help when you see this doctor for the consult to ask if they know of a reputable support group (online or otherwise) that you could join before you make any decisions?

I would think that talking to others that have gone through the surgery or are considering the surgery might be very helpful.

Best wishes!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: Finally decided on my JUNE Goal! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I'll do one of my exercise CD's first thing in the morning as soon as I wake up. It's only 20 mins and I'll do it Monday through Friday with weekends off (I like to be realistic ;) ) This will be for the entire month of June and when July rolls around, I'll re-examine and decide if I want to add another month.

So tomorrow June 4 starts it all and I hope all the chickies here will wish me success.

As far as food, I'm doing well I think on the SBD, avoiding all the processed foods that are sold under that name of course ;) And limiting the fruits as those send me off into cravings. Even when I combine with a little protein. Sigh. Just the way it is for me. Oh well, I love veggies so at least I have those!

Have a wonderful Sunday and I'll check in this week

PS: still swmming too :swim: Just adding the 20 mins workout CD to my schedule for my June goal.

This is my first time ever looking for support on the web. Bottomline, for the past 3 years I've had enormous family responsibilities that have managed to completely evaporate any interest I had in being physically fit, staying within my 5 lb. range and taking care of myself in general. I don't expect to get "myself back" overnight but I want to see some positive results soon! I've gained 15 lbs. which if you're on the petite side of height is a lot. Plus, at 53, it takes much more time and investment to lose weight, gain muscle, etc. I appreciate any suggestions, support. Most of all the thought of being accountable encourages me.

Thanx, Ladies

Welcome to the group HB216 . . . 3FC is a marvellous place for support . . . hope you'll be stopping in to visit with us on a regular basis . . .

Good to hear from you, HY . . . As much as I imagine you would like that book, from the sounds of things there's probably nothing in there you don't already know. But don't let that stop you from getting the library to bring it in. One can never read too much on this topic. . . BTW, sounds like a great goal for June. :D

Hey SISTER . . . did you notice that we have quite an active WLS Forum here at 3FC? Here's a link . . . http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=78 . . . sure you'll find lots and lots of caring and informative Chickies over there to discuss things with.

:welcome3: A welcome from me too HB216 :welcome3:

I was a new person too at some point, as are all of us if you go back far enough :D I hope you find the support and encouragement you're looking for- it does help!!

I'm pretty sure the "regulars" here all have different programs they are working on. Me, I'm a low-carb person as that works for my particular situation. I started a few years back on Atkins (to the lettter) Since March of this year I've been doing South Beach after a friend asked if I would join her on this program. My loss is slow, but it is healthy. And that's my story :D

Wishing you lots of success!

Hugs

Definitely cannot read too much on this subject!!!! I am no expert, trust me, meowee!!! It's just that I was raised in a farm environment - family farm, not agribusiness! And it makes no sense to me to eat foods that have been processed so heavily - I can eat paper or cardboard and take a vitamin and eat just about as healthy - lol!!!

The recent Pet Food Recall highlighted what I've been trying to avoid for myself for years - I don't want to eat food that has to be processed or added to...

So I'm always interested in learning new info - we live in a rapidly changing world and it is smart to keep updated as much as possible IMO. Please do let me know what you think of the book, if it was well-written, etc. I value your opinion

Good Morning . . .

Wow . . . I slept in again this morning -- didn't see the light of day until 9 am. Anyway . . . the menagerie is fed (including me) and I just have time for a few quick HI's in a few 3FC places before I hve to get into the shower and get ready for my opthamologist appointment.

HY . . . Yep . . . Definitely think you will like the book. She does a great job of stressing good healthy eating and provides a nice (and complete) list of the super healthy stuff (including her own take on the 12 best). She surprised me a little by including a pretty extensive list of supplements she likes as well. (Nothing distressing about them - Guess I was just expecting a more "purist" approach.) About the only thing that I really didn't agree with was that she suggests not eating after 6 pm. I agree, we should avoid ending the day with a heavy meal, but my blood glucose level would really be in trouble with nothing after 6 pm. :dizzy: But that's just from the point of view of a diabetic, of course.

Anyway, everybody . . . have a great time moving and shaking today . . . see you later . . . :carrot:

 WELCOME TO OUR NEW GALS, MiddleSister and HB216, we are always gald to have new chickies join us. Hope you will visit often, I know you can add information to our group.:comp:

MEOWEE: Thanks for holding my hand, it's always good to know that someone is there to help when you start to fall. Glad your new glasses are working out for you. I too like to read when I watch tv,drives DH crazy.

HY: Your goals for June sound very doable. I agree you can't ever read too much on the subject of diet and exercise and better health. I wish I could be as dedicated as you to the non processed foods. Went grocery shopping yesterday and our produce leaves a lot to be desired, seems we just don't get very good produce in this area, think we are just so small and we don't use as much. Good luck on your goal.

To our new gals there is no right or wrong way to do this each person has to find what works for them. We try to support what ever it is that you find
works best for you and believe me we will be with you the whole way.
MiddleSister, please take everyone's advice about checking out this surgery
very thoroughly before you consider going through with it. It will be a life long commitment. I do know of a couple of gals that have had it done and they seem to be doing ok with it. They both have said that it is a real mental process and you have to be mentally ready to accept the changes you have to make after the surgery. The idea of finding a support group and talking with both sides of the surgery is a great idea.:goodluck: in which ever way it turns out.

HB216 you have my support all the way. There is so much good information out there and all you have to do is ask for our help and you have it. We have all been struggling with weight loss and we help each other.

I had a great weekend, got some more flowers planted so my yard is finally looking pretty good. Started on getting windows washed and those awful
mini blinds cleaned. I really hate those things but don't like curtains too much either. It was awfully windy all weekend but I did manage to set out in the sun for a short time, it feels good on my tired old bones ;) Did go for
a mile and a half walk too. Enjoyed looking at everyones yards, the flowers are just getting pretty. Still have lots of shingleing and siding companies in town and they were working feverishly this weekend, all you could hear were hammers. Last evening we had the pleasure of watching a mama and daddy robin teaching their 4 young ones how to pick worms out of the lawn.Daddy sat on a fence close by and chattered and mama had the little ones by her on the ground, she would pull up a worm and take it to the driveway and the little ones would all come running to pick it apart. If they noticed us they would all fly off, then in a little bit they would be back. a What great sight it was.
I weighed in on Saturday morning and I lost a half pound, not much but it is in the right direction. Hope all of you have a great day, I hope to talk with you tomorrow.

"IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED, YOU'RE RUNNING ABOUT AVERAGE"

Oh DONNA . . . I just love that quote. . . I'm going to have to steal it to post in a few other places -- hope that's okay. :^:

BTW, you are the second person to mention sharing the "reading while watching TV" habit. That, and your DH's reaction to it, is a perfect example of the difference between the genders . . . women are better than men at multi-tasking; but, men do tend to be better at delegating tasks to someone else . . . :D

Definitely did not sleep in this morning . . . was up and down all night worrying about the kittens . . . their 'play' got a little extra rough last night and Freckle got a tail bite from one of his sisters that was bleeding quite badly. Didn't seem to be slowing him down any and he also didn't really mind getting it cleaned up, but I kept waking up all night expecting to find a tail-less baby lying dead in a pool of blood. :yikes: He seems to be fine this morning . . . no bleeding, no pain, no lack of appetite or energy . . . so guess I won't be rushing him to the vet.

Found this little cutey in my e:mail this morning and just loved it . . . also decided to start a STICKY on our little forum for various helpful tips and recipes and put it in there too . . . http://www.everydayhealth.com/photog...shame.aspx?p=1 . . . the best part of it is the alternative recipes for healthy versions of the Snacks they listed in the "Hall of Shame". Enjoy. ;)

Well, I'd better get a move on. Have a few things I really must get done today even though the weather is dull and drooly. Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking bunch of stuff on the agenda for today. Hope to be seeing you all again really soon . . . :carrot:

Donna72664 06-05-2007 10:56 AM

MEOWEE: Please feel free to use that quote, I liked it a lot. Glad to hear that your baby kitty didn't lose his tail and is feeling better today. Isn't it crazy. we get our kids out of the house so we don't have to stay awake all night worrying about them and then we get pets and it's the same routine all over again! My kids think I treat my little dog better than I did them ;)
Thanks for the link, ran over just to see and it looks very informative, will get back to it when I get a chance.I'm working this morning so I can have the afternoon off as I have to go out of town to my dr. and get my MAM done. Not looking forward to that, but the shopping afterwards will make me feel better, I'm sure.LOL Better get busy, 2 hours goes by way too fast when I'm here trying to get something accomplished. Have a wonderful day. DONNA

meowee 06-05-2007 01:30 PM

Thanks DONNA . . . when I get comments like that from the kids I remind them of two things . . . (a) the pets are easier to toilet train, and (b) they don't talk back nearly as much . . . that usually shuts them up. ;)
