The Hot Hot Hot July Exercise Thread!!

Welcome!

...To the July exercise thread! We're trying to make exercise a habit and give ourselves some accountability!

In this thread, we're setting the number of MINUTES we want to exercise for the month -- whether it's walking or swimming or housework!

We're also tracking how many minutes we have exercised as a group!

Please first post your goals and then add your minutes (for yourself and the group) and get some support and accountability! If you're just getting started, feel free to start with a smaller number of minutes (I did!), maybe just a few hundred. It seems easier for many of us to build on the habit rather than meet a very high goal right away.

If you want to join us during the month -- GREAT! Just let us know how many minutes you want to exercise in what's left of the month!

Also, we are working on our 100K challenge -- how quickly can we make it to 100,000 minutes of exercise. (But don't worry, I'll track those numbers separately...)

Here's where we stand so far on that challenge:
January: 9418 minutes
February: 11,129 minutes
March: 15,917 minutes
April: 10,700 minutes
May: 16,091 minutes
June: 13,603 minutes

TOTAL thru June: 76,858 minutes!!! -- Yes, we are over 3/4 of the way there!

kayleystar 06-27-2006 11:13 AM

Fantastic! :)
In June, I was able to do SO much exercise, because I was unemployed. Now that I do have a job, it's going to make it a little harder to get in the exercise...but I'm still going to do it! No giving up for me! :) I'm going to shoot for 900 minutes this month, and we'll see how I do. That's like almost HALF of what I did this month, but I'm okay with that, as like I said, I'm working now. :) Just sorta a test to see how many minutes I'm able to get in, really, and then next month, I'll be able to definately figure it out...I'm babbling. I'm going to stop. :D

AmmiUK 06-27-2006 06:58 PM

I am aiming to do 840 minutes of exercise a month, that will be on my Gazelle Rider. I am not sure how much walking I will do, is it ok if I add that as just an extra whenever I do it?

Hugs,

Ammi :dizzy:

Xena2005 06-27-2006 08:22 PM

I am probably not going to make my June goal of 650 minutes. I really slacked off for a couple of weeks and it has made it difficult to catch up. But I am going to try again in July to shoot for 650. I know if I can be more consistent with my exercise I will do much better toward actually reaching my goal.

Thanks, as always, to wyllen for coordinating this thread!:grouphug:

Heather 06-27-2006 10:19 PM

Kayley -- I'm upping my exercise a bit in the summer and it will be lower in the fall (when I work more), so your idea makes perfect sense to me.

Ammi -- Yes, go ahead and add whatever minutes you like!

Xena -- You know, when I first started this thread I felt like the biggest phony. ME? Start an exercise thread???? I wasn't even doing much exercise myself!

But the amazing thing is that it has helped ME so much too!! I love having us all do this together and being accountable!!!!

So, thank YOU! All of you!!!

ZedAus 06-28-2006 04:26 AM

I am going to be a chicken and stick to 1200 minutes again for July. I know that I'm going to be closer to 1500 minutes by the end of June, but I don't want the pressure to be on. I am enjoying the fact that if I only want to do 40 mins a day, that is fine. And if I managed to get extra mins in on some days, that allows for having a day off if I need one. It all makes perfect sense to me.:dizzy: I'm still doing WAY better than the 30 mins a few times a week that the doctor recommended, so I will be happy with that.

So... Zelma - 1200 mins for July.

I really do find that this thread helps when I kinda need to do just that little bit extra.

Thanks everyone!:carrot:

Take care,

Zelma

Misti in Seattle 06-28-2006 08:51 AM

Okay, I can't believe I am saying this... but I DO respond better when I am competitive with myself and the pressure is on. So I honestly don't know if I can make this.... though I did far better in June but it is hot out, which I hate. But I am going to beat this fat off one way or the other. :)

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo.... my July goal is 2000 minutes!!! :bike:

Heather 06-28-2006 09:10 AM

Okay, I'm going to go for 1200 minutes in July. I think I'm going to get to 1100 this month (boy, I really do seem to only JUST reach my goals... I think there's something psychological going on there...), and July is another easier month to coordinate, so I'll up it a bit and see!

So, 1200 for me!!!!!!

Wow, back last fall, I was pleased to be getting in 500 minutes of exercise a month! Look at me now!!!!!!

kaybee1966 06-29-2006 08:48 PM

Since I met my June goal of 1200 mins, I'm going to up my July goal to 1300 mins.

NotTheCheat 06-29-2006 09:33 PM

I will wait until I am ready to start exercising again to make a July goal, but I will be back! If I am feeling up to it I should be able to be back to exercising starting the week of the 17th, if not sooner.

angiepants78 06-29-2006 11:37 PM

900

My goal is 900. At least!

July 1st 30 Minutes cardio
July 2nd 20 Minutes Bike
July 3rd
July 4th
July 5th
July 6th
July 7th

Misti in Seattle 06-30-2006 03:08 AM

Good to read all the goals! Sounds as if that fairy fat mother is going to be making her rounds next month!!! :)

Heather 06-30-2006 09:32 AM

Misti -- Fairy Fat Mother (FFM??) had better make her rounds next month. I'm not setting any goals on getting into the 1s, but if it doesn't happen in the next month, I'm taking names and kicking some FFM butt!

Vortex_VVV 06-30-2006 01:22 PM

Hi all, My goal is really to develop the habit of setting aside time for exercise. My plan is to do 30 minutes of slow walking every day (I'm not capable of doing 30 minutes if it's not very low intensity right now). And I'm going to start back on my exercise bike at just 5 minutes/day. I'll add time on that as the month goes on, but I'll also be away part of the month, so I'm going to use 5 min/day as the goal. That gives me a total goal of 930 minutes of walking and 155 minutes biking = 1085 minutes.

Bunnababy 06-30-2006 01:39 PM

I am kind of just jumping in here. I would like to sign up for 650 minutes for July.

NoLifeWithoutHorses 06-30-2006 03:56 PM

OK, Wyllenn. You asked for it. I'm jumping back in at 975 minutes this month. That works out to just 32.5 minutes a day, with one day off for good behavior. Haven't been good with goals so far, but why not shoot for the moon? Making it too low allows me to slack off - "Hey, I can make it up tomorrow" Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Hey Misti - I wanna go to Newfoundland, so if I start walking now, maybe I can "get there" by next spring? ;)

SpecialKitty 06-30-2006 04:06 PM

I'm brand new here, but would love to join this challenge. I walk for 60 minutes each day (except not the weekends), so I will sign on for 1200 minutes for the month. Looking forward to it!

Misti in Seattle 06-30-2006 07:55 PM

LOL happy Friday everyone!!

Ammi, well I know you are good at beating sense into that FFM since she showed up here AGAIN this morning! I was really surprised to be down another pound to make 3 this week! Yay! So now if she gives YOU a hard time you know I will get on her case for you to return your good deed!!! :)

Angela, great start on your execise! I started out with slow walking also; it works and you will build up your time and your speed. Go for it!!

LOL Valerie not sure if you can make Newfoundland by spring but you will be skinny when you DO get there!

Welcome to the newbies. So glad you joined us!

brunissen 06-30-2006 09:39 PM

I am a former chick who's trying to get her motivation back. I'm in for 1395 in July!

Hpnotq 06-30-2006 10:57 PM

Sign me up for 600 minutes for July. Since this is my first month to participate, I don't want to set myself too high.

azcyn 06-30-2006 11:55 PM

Hi Ladies...I am setting my goal at 500 again...someday I will meet that goal! I have decided to go back to school to become a teacher. It has been my dream since I cant remember. So school will keep me busy for fall...and keep me motivated. Yall are a great bunch of ladies!!

azcyn 06-30-2006 11:55 PM

Heather 07-01-2006 12:01 AM

cyn-- love your avatar

welcome to all the new people! Maybe we can break a record this month!

Misti in Seattle 07-01-2006 02:25 AM

Woo hooo everybody, off we go!!! Best wishes to everyone in making their goals!

Ammi, I am confident you will make it to OneDerland for sure very soon! We are after that FFM lady!! :)

ZedAus 07-01-2006 04:44 AM

I'll start off the group total. I walked for 60 mins along the river with hubby this afternoon. We really didn't go very fast, as I have a sore knee. We probably walked about 4km (2.4 miles) or so, which still wasn't too bad. I'm not sure whether I should have done any extra walking, other than the walking we had already done around two malls for most of the morning, but I have been going a little stir crazy with not exercising Thurs and Fri.

I hope this knee gets better soon. The chiropractor said that the muscle in my thigh had tightened with all of the exercising (especially the jogging I think) I have been doing and it was pulling my kneecap up. So all I can really do is some stretching exercises (can we say OUCH?) and rest.

Anyway... Personal Goal... 60 mins towards July's goal of 1200

Group Total... 60 mins

It is wonderful to see some new faces. I hope you all have an active weekend. I wish I had a long weekend, but I do have two weeks off after this week, so I won't complain.

Take care,

Zelma

Misti in Seattle 07-01-2006 08:29 AM

Yay Zelma! Way to go getting us started. LOL it is July there while it is still June here so we needed you to get us going. :) It is 5:30 AM here on 7/1 and you have already done your afternoon walk!!

Vortex_VVV 07-01-2006 02:14 PM

Take care of that knee, Zelma.

I did my 30 minutes of slow walking and 8 minutes on the bike = 38 minutes

Group total: 60 +38 = 98

ThisGirlsLosing 07-01-2006 02:58 PM

Ok, so I'm back. Yeah, I'm back. Still, my life is stressful...and on top of all that, I'm going to be moving to San Francisco in July. So, I'll be busy, and stressed. And, I did not do much exercising in June. <deep breath> So, I am going to go slow and give myself a goal I can achieve - 700 minutes for July.

Me, trying not to feel like a wimp.

AmmiUK 07-01-2006 04:53 PM

I managed to do my 30 minutes on the rider today, so.....

Personal Total - 30 minutes of 840
Group Total - 98 + 30 = 128

Zelma - I hope your knee will be ok after resting it a bit.

Cyn - lovely to see your photo and put a face to the name.

Angela - don't think I have said hi before, so hi :D

MariaLucia - ooh that's so great that you are moving. I see that you live in the San Francisco bay area, so are you moving just a short distance? I hope the move goes well, and don't forget to count packing as your exercise :)

Misti in Seattle 07-01-2006 04:54 PM

I did 100 minutes of water aerobics this morning. And LOL I just bought some water weights so will probably go back this evening and try them out. I am off to a great start yahoo

LOL Ammi... we posted at the same time but you beat me so I had to go recalculate mine. :)

Total so far = 100
July goal = 2000 - 100 = 1900 to go

Group total = 128 + 100 = 228

AmmiUK 07-01-2006 05:02 PM

Misti - sorry my post just beat yours, but glad you had to do the caluclations, I hate maths  WOW 100 minutes of water aerobics, that is brilliant.

Hugs,

Ammi

Misti in Seattle 07-01-2006 05:05 PM

LOL well I wasn't so upset because 100 is easy to add to the total. At least you didn't make me get out my calculator again! :)

AmmiUK 07-01-2006 07:24 PM

LOL Misti, ok so it was an easy sum, but I still hate math

going to lose 200 07-01-2006 07:49 PM

Hi guys
Going to add 30 min here for me. I gardened for 2 hrs but only actually mowed the lawn for about 30 :)

228+30=258

Brenda

Joni135 07-01-2006 08:11 PM

My first time joining this exercise challenge. I'll say 600 minutes for the month of July. Do I post my exercise total minutes on a weekly basis? Guess I'm not clear how this really works.

azcyn 07-01-2006 09:19 PM

Hi ladies add 15 min for me!

joni - you can add you min everyday to your total plus add then to the group total. Or whenever you have time to hop on and share.

My total = 15 min

Group total = 258 + 15 = 265

cc9455 07-01-2006 09:56 PM

OK my July goal is 1050 minutes -- I know that may seem high for a newbie but I know I can do it.

I based my number on the following:
90 minute yoga class on Monday Nights (5 Mondays)
30 minutes of activity 5 days a week. Either exercise bike or Curves.

I have a question... on these ticker things do you have to make a new one whenever you have to make progress on it? Is there code you can somehow change to just update the numbers?

Hi! So glad you joined us.

As to the tickers... on the one from 3FC just go to the top of the screen and click on "User CP" and then on "Edit Signature." You can just type in the new number and save it, and the ticker will automatically update.

On the one from tickerfactory... go to the site and click on the same one you did before... exercise probably... and you can enter your new numbers and cut and paste it into the 3FC signature just as you did the first time.

Hope this makes sense! :)

cc9455 07-02-2006 03:45 AM

Thank you Misti! Yes it does make sense.

ZedAus 07-02-2006 04:08 AM

Beautiful day here, and hubby and I managed a 70 min walk. My knee is feeling MUCH better, so we were able to walk quite a bit faster, but I tried not to overdo things. I may have to do my workout on the bike in the morning, rather than the treadmill. I'll see how things are feeling.

Personal Goal... 1140 - 70 = 1070 mins left of July's goal of 1200

Group Total... 265 + 70 = 335

With all of the eager new faces (and Maria Lucia back with us) we should be able to blow our old total out of the water!:carrot:

Take care,

Zelma
