Got my act together today and walked laps with the kids for 15 mins. I really should take my sneakers in to school for that though as it would make it much easier on the rough terrain of our school oval.

So... 30 mins on the treadmill in the morning, 15 mins of laps and 30 mins on the bike this evening.

Personal Goal... 25 + 75 = 100 mins over my March goal of 1700

Group Total... 12,729 + 75 = 12,804

I checked, and this was our total for February (and that was, I believe, our previous high water mark): 11,129 minutes

So, we have barrelled past our previous "best"!!!! WOO HOO!!!

Then I went back and looked at our other months, and here are the group exercise totals:
December: 5661 minutes (I remember us wanting to get to 100 hours --- 6000 minutes)
January: 9418 minutes
February: 11,129 minutes

And we're over 12K so far and March isn't over!!

I think we're doing so much better each month because of more people AND higher goals!!

So, there's a group NSV to be proud of!

Well, I didn't pay attention to when I did the exercise...but my total is now 260 minutes. Rather dismally far behind my 600 I was shooting for...but at least more than I've done in the past.

So: 600 - 260 = 340 to go

Group total = 12,804 = 13 = 12,817!

Yesterday I did my 50 minute strength training tape. Looking forward to getting back to the gym today. My new total is 1153.

The group total is 12,817 + 50 = 12,867

Today has been an EXCELLENT workout day!
*5 mins leg/arm stretches (with hand weights) in bed when I first got up.
*10 mins buns/thighs from dvd w/mom
*30 min walk w/mom (on highway and bumpy terrain through fields/woods)
*10 mins buns/thighs from dvd
*10 mins arms/shoulders from dvd
*20 mins cardio dance (was going to do the whole dvd, but my side is killing me)
That's a total of 85 mins for me today! WHEW! I'm BEAT.
Brings our total to: 13,027!!! :) And my total to 790 mins!!! WOO!

I am going to master that elliptical! Tonight I made it to 17 minutes. I tried to do the cross training thing where you go backwards, but that instantaneously hurt my knees so I stopped and kept going on the forwards. Then I did 35 minutes on the treadmill. That brings my March total to 1205.

The group total is now 13,027 + 52 = 13,079!!

Well, did 12 minutes on the eliptical and another 18 minutes stretching - 30 total tonight!

Personal Goal 600 minutes - 290 = 310 to go!
Don't think that I'll be making that goal!

I've got 42 minutes to add to the total - -32 treadmill and 10 back exercises. I am really close to my March goal!

Group total ~ 13,109 + 42 = 13,151 minutes!

60 mins for Sat. even though I wasn't feeling well, the girls and I danced to music videos in the living room for about an hour and a half but with commercials, I'm only counting 60 mins. And 45 mins on the gazelle today.

Group Total=13,151+105=13,256

Personal Total=1011/1100

I think I may actually go over my exercise goal this month...doesn't look like I am going to make my april first weight loss goal though...

Another good day. I walked laps around the oval again. I always forget how good that makes me feel. I remembered to take my sneakers today, so it was easier to maneuver around the potholes - our oval isn't in the best condition.

So... 30 mins on treadmill in morning, 15 mins of laps, 20 mins of strength training and 30 mins on bike this afternoon/evening.

Personal Goal... 100 + 95 = 195 over March goal of 1700 (Total now 1895)

Group Total... 13,256 + 95 = 13,351

Hello everyone!

61 minutes on the bike today for a total of 850 minutes - just 150 min shy of my goal of 1,000. :-)

Group total: 13,351 + 61 = 13,412

Me thinks my old little bike is getting too easy - I am increasing the tension next week from 7 to 8. Once 8 gets too easy, I'm gonna have to get creative in order to make it a workout cuz 8 is the max. Wind sprints anyone? LOL

Went to curves this morning and i'm finially in the computer! I've done 9 workouts + today so thats 10. 10+30=300

Tonight I did 35 minutes on the treadmill, and this week I didn't let myself off the hook, but I did 30 minutes of weights while I was watching American Idol. That brings my total to 1270.

The group total is now 13,897 + 65 = 13,962!

My thighs have been a little sore... well, not exactly sore, but I KNOW that they are there... and it took me until this evening to work out the reason why. I THINK it may have something to do with the 50 squats I did with the fit ball yesterday. When I first got the ball I had trouble doing even 10, but I haven't used it for a while and thought I would see how I went yesterday. I wasn't even feeling it after 50, but figured that it would be better to stop. Now I'm VERY glad that I did. I'm not really surprised that it took me so long to work out what was wrong with my thighs. I'm a slow learner at times. I could even be wrong about the cause, but it certainly sounds right to me.

Anyway... today I did 30 mins on the treadmill, 15 mins of laps with the kids and 40 mins on the bike. I went quite a bit slower to start on the bike, so did a bit longer to compensate.

Personal Goal... 195 + 85 = 280 over March goal (1980 mins for March so far)

Group Total... 14,097 + 85 = 14,182

:carrot: Boy, are we movin' and groovin' or what?!!:carrot:

I have decided that I may try to have a rest day from now on, to see how I go. I've been getting tired again and don't know if it is the exercising, or just the end of term. I don't think I'm over exercising by any means at the moment, but then again, I didn't think I was doing anything wrong before either. I'm thinking that Friday would be a good rest day because I am usually tired from the end of the working week and I enjoy getting out and walking over the weekends, so don't want to bother making Saturday or Sunday a rest day. We'll have to see how I go, because it is possible I will just feel too guilty and won't even have a rest day. Perhaps just a rest 'afternoon' if I am tired after work.

Zelma FWIW, I've always been told that you should work out five days a week and have two breaks. Of course, they were telling that to a 300 lb woman who was out of shape. Maybe it's not so bad to work out so much when you are already in shape. Clearly, you've done something right! ;)

Did 22 minutes last night (12 on the elip and 10 stretches)

Personal goal 600 - 312 = 288 to go (At least I made it over the 1/2 way mark!)

Group total 14,182 + 22 = 14,204

Wyllen - Way to go on meeting your March goal!!!

Well, I have been weighing myself almost every day and it isn't looking good. For some reason the scale is being difficult. I have started to feel that "why bother" feeling slipping in, so I felt like I needed to do something to steal myself for my weigh in tomorrow. I may not see movement on the scale, but I am definitely seeing the difference in my fitness. Tonight I made it 20 minutes on the elliptical and then 40 minutes on the treadmill. I kept my bpm at 140 for almost the entire time - I worked REALLY hard. One whole hour of intense cardio - I feel so proud of myself right now. And it doesn't matter one bit what happens tomorrow morning, because I am ending this month with a bang! This brings my personal total to 1330.

The group total is now 14,306 + 60 = 14,366

nancy -- I know exactly what you mean about the stupid scale. I am really trying to take my focus off the scale and put it ON these other victories. This is about my health, and that does not just mean my weight!

You're ROCKING the exercise these days, and that is surely something to celebrate. Your scale will figure that out eventually and will be FORCED to capitulate!! :)

Hello everyone!

Well, I'm having a HARD week. Not sure what triggered it, but I started binging on Sunday afternoon and I just barely stopped today. My body and my spirit feel ALMOST defeated.

I skipped my work out this morning cuz I needed the extra sleep. Did 30 min on my bike this eve after work. Only 120 min to my goal - 2 days, 60 min each. I hope I can do it...right now things feel extraordinarily hard.

GROUP TOTAL 14,366 + 30 = 14,396

I did pretty well today, now I just have to see if I can stick to my plan of making tomorrow a 'rest' day. I've never actually done that before by choice, only when I've been sick. We'll have to see. I got carried away talking with one of my student teachers today while we were walking laps with the kids, so we walked for 20 mins instead of 15. I don't think the kids even noticed, but they were all THRILLED with the increase in the number of laps they did. I had to let them know that they had longer so they didn't get worried if they did fewer laps next time. I don't know if I have mentioned, but we are combining the class laps and working out the distance we cover. We are 'walking across Italy'... well, across the land borders... and when we get all the way across (approx 1900km) we will be having a "Pizza Party" where we make our own healthy pizzas. So far we've walked 711km! Not bad huh?

So... 30 mins on the treadmill, 20 mins of laps, 20 mins of strength training and 30 mins on the bike. Makes 100 mins... I'll have earned my rest day tomorrow!

Personal Goal... 280 + 100 = 380 mins above my March goal of 1700 (2080 mins for March)

Group Total... 14,481 + 100 = 14,581

Okay--I just got back from the gym and I can add another 90 minutes to the total. :) I'm kind of amazed you know--I started out the month so bad and tomorrow is another leg day so I know it'll be another 90 minutes on to my time which will make my total for the month 1125. That's a lot better than I thought it would be, you know? I'm pretty pleased with myself. There are 31 days in March, right? :o

Hello Everyone! I am happy to report I feel much better today. Thanks to all of you who PM'd me and offered support in the public forum!

I did 60 min on my bike today - at a faster pace so I'm really feeling my butt and my thighs! Yes!

Group Total = 14,581 + Vicki's 90 + my 60 = 14,731


I have 60 more minutes to reach my goal of 1,000 and one more day to do it! Who knew I would ever get this far?

I am so proud of all of you (okay, me too!)... I think many of use are doing more exercise than we have in a while. I know I am.

Zelma -- Walking across Italy sounds like a fun challenge. I recently joined the coast-to-coast challenge on the exercise thread, and wondered if we should do either something like that, or something different... but I'm not getting the sense that people are tired of our way of counting yet -- what do you all think?? Do you like counting minutes and want to keep going?? Or change it to something different? I personally am happy counting minutes personally -- I think it's really helping me get in the habit.

I decided to take the doggies for a walk today, it was so nice. Only 15 minutes, but I'll take it!

Group total ~ 14,731 + 15 = 14.748 minutes
Come on, let's get to 15k!!!

I still like counting minutes as well. I find it easier to keep track of my personal goal as well as the group total. The distance concept just seems to work better with the little kids, as they don't have a clear idea of time intervals yet.

I'll go with the main concensus, but sticking with minutes would be my choice.

here's my vote for counting minutes.

Calculating distance would be difficult for people who exercise to videos or in aerobic/fitness group classes, for people who count their non-aerobic minutes (like weight-lifting), for people who just get up and go for a walk without a pedometer, and for people like me who, in April, will be alternating between the bike, treadmill and elliptical machines.

Got in a 20 minute walk with Mom...mostly uphill. It was a beautiful day out today! Shorts weather! :) I say stick to how things are now...as I do much more of other sorts of exercise. :)

14,768 minutes for the group. :)
