I agree with Ammi that it is hard for me to see their weight loss on The Biggest Loser as healthy when they are losing so quickly! It's been pounded into my head for so long that 1-2 pounds a week is best that at first, I didn't watch the show because it just seemed unhealthy and unrealistic to expect to be able to maintain such rapid losses, ya know? But now I watch it, and I wish I had the time to devote to such workouts so I could have the same success! I think it's important to remember that they have physicians there to make sure all of the contestants are healthy enough to continue. Also, I have heard that the more overweight you are, the more it is okay to lose more than just the 1-2 pounds a week. Who knows--all the experts have something diferent to say

One thing that I really don't like about the show is that the teams are split by sex. I have heard and read for years that it has been proven that it is easier for men to lose weight than for women, so I don't think it's fair to compare apples to oranges, you know? I'm glad they do it by percentage instead of actual number of pounds, but it still isn't quite fair, in my opinion. It's no wonder the girls keep losing the weigh-ins no matter how hard they work!

Okay enough about that--I know this isn't the Biggest Loser board

On my own diet front, I did a no-no today and skipped lunch I got a large diet pepsi, but no food. I just couldn't find anything in that darn cafeteria that I was willing to eat--I can't keep having pizza or wraps or even salads with tons of cheese and creamy dressings--WAY too many calories! It won't be as much of a problem once I've moved, but right now, I don't have any food in my apartment to bring to work with me, so I just go to the cafeteria. I'll have some tomato soup when I get home, but that and the yogurt only adds up to less than 500 calories, so I need to scrounge up something else. I guess the good news is that at least I don't feel hungry

LOL right after I finished my last post, I got dragged to an office borthday party, so I had a cupcake with icing now, too At least cupcakes are a good idea--that way, you don't have to worry about how big of a slice of cake you can have because they're already individual servings.

Jen - we are talking about the Biggest Loser US, and yes there is a UK version, but it's the first season of it for us.

Jill - we haven't seen any of the second series of the US Biggest Loser, have they decided to put the girls against the boys this time? That does seem unfair doesn't it. Especially when it comes to the fat percentage in the body because men can get all muscley whereas the woman won't want to be like that.

Well done for choosing to miss lunch rather than eating what you shouldn't, and you weren't even hungry, that is brilliant. It's also great that when you did get dragged into that party you only had one cup cake. I know you aren't supposed to miss meals, but occasionally and because you don't want to eat too much, it's not awful!

Vicki - I am so sorry you have lost so many special people in the last 3 years, but well done you on realising that they would all want you to carry on losing weight, and not to spend your life being upset at losing them. And I think you are great trying to make a go of your relationship despite finding out for sure that your BF had been unfaithful. I don't think I could be so strong. Once I lose trust in a person I could never get it back and my relationship would be filled with my insecurities, worrying where he would be or what he is doing. I guess I would end up pushing him away anyway. So I am glad you aren't like me and I hope your BF realises how lucky he is to have you. AND, yes you are right, he chose you over some skinny thing, and that definitely is a confidence booster!!

Finally and most importantly lol, that's great that you have lost weight again. I know I will feel awful when I weigh and don't see a loss after a month. I will drop my WW points or try to exercise more when it does happen, but I still dread it happening.

Andrea - that sounds so great that you are going to a pumpkin patch to choose a pumpkin. If we celebrated Halloween then I think going to a pumpkin patch would be the highlight of it all for me. I hope you have a wonderful time, and take lots of photos!!

Brenda - sounds like you are making great choices for your movie snacks. I hope the smell of hot dogs and popcorn don't tempt you to leave the healthy snacks and go for the unhealthy option. Don't forget to tell us if you enjoy the movie.

Ok, time to go again lol. See you all later,

Hugs,

Ammi

Wow you ladies talk. I think I am going to have to check the board more often if I have hopes of keeping up.

Thanks for the warm welcome. It means a ton to me.

I am not sure how you all remember to reply to everyone in one message. Maybe it is something that I will learn in time.

Someone asked where Ga is. You were right. Ga is Georgia. I am as Southern as they get.

I have been doing the WW flex plan for about a week now. Amy helped get me motivated enough to start something. When I got preggo with my dd I weighed 272lbs. After I had her I lost down to 220lbs. (I lost 52lbs while preggo actually, I was sick a lot.) I should have done something to keep losing after I had her but instead I wasn't sick anymore so I ate EVERYTHING I could find. Now two years later I weigh more than I ever have and it is time to do something about it.

I still haven't bought any candy for Halloween yet either. I am afraid that I will eat it all if I buy it. I am a weak person for candy. Best not to tempt myself. I fear that we will have a ton of kids come this year too. We just moved into a sub a month or so ago and I don't know what to expect. Maybe if I do buy candy the kids will come fast so I can give it all away before I eat it!

Have a super great afternoon ladies. Talk to you later!

Manda - it was me who asked if GA meant Georgia. How cool that I guessed it right, see, small things please small minds I bet you have a fabulous accent.

I am sorry you were so unwell when you were pregnant. It's a horrible way to lose weight being sick, and then afterwards when you gain it all back you think what a waste. I know, I lost a few stone (42 lbs) when I was first ill with Ulcerative Colitis, but steroids, and then surgery and a long recovery saw me put it all back on. Oh well I will appreciate it more after working hard to lose it.

Is WW Flex Plan using points? I don't know what the difference is between that and 123 Success plan, but that's points and it's what I am using and so far so good.

Hope you had a good afternoon and am looking forward to getting to know you better.

Hugs,

Ammi

Hey, I like the popsicles for Halloween idea. I think I may try that one.

We're going to the pumpkin patch this weekend, I think. Hopefully it will stop raining by then. I need to think of some other nice fall activities that don't involve food. I think I'm going to go try to play tennis or volleyball or something with the kids this weekend. I'm trying to come up with more family activities that involve MOVING.

Speaking of moving, good luck with the move! That should be some great exercise!

Hi ladies! Not much time to post unfortunately, but just wanted to drop in and say hello! Things are going.. well, they're going - that counts, right? I've not lost anymore, and there are a few other little worrying details that keep popping up. But, I haven't gained and so I keep telling myself that's an accomplishment in itself.

Hopefully everyone is doing well, and I'll drop by Friday as that's when I'm off work and will be able to include everyone!

Good Morning Ladies!

The movie Wallace and Grommit was really funny. It was a shame since we were the only one in the theatre! We went to the late show and all the kids were in bed except us of course!

I decided to drop my french course. I found out that I have to attend 14 levels after this one before I was benefited in my career. I work for the Canadian federal government. That means at least 7 more years!!! I don't think that right now I can commit myself to that. So hubby and I talked it over and he had me present him with the arguement. I won... I guess in two ways. The deal is that if I drop french I have to use that time twice a week to work out in some way. So last night I walked 4 laps at the track. I think that equals a mile I know that my calves are sore today since that was my second walk yesterday. I had already went for one with the dog that afternoon! So I am crawling around the house, grumbling (in english *L*) and thinking that the french class wasn't so bad

I know I am late throwing this out there but it seems a lot of us met our partners on the web. I met Steven online as well. Little did I know at the time that we had went to high school together and lived around the corner. We chatted for about 3 weeks before we met up and we have been married for over 4 years!

We have decided to try to set up a mini gym in our bonus room. We already have a bike and some hand weights along with a few DVDs. So Steve wants to get a couple more things to add and then we don't have to spend the money to go to a gym. I walk quite a big outdoors and there is a new sportsplex opening the first of next month with an indoor walking track and new pool. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to add? We were thinking a weight bench of some sort and maybe a Gazelle?? Does anyone have one of these? They look a little more appealing to me than an elliptical and they cost around $200 and the weight capacity is much better ( around 325 which I can deal with rather than the usual 200-250). They look like they work the same muscle groups and great for the rear end!

OK I have rambled on long enough for now. Steve, BaileyBeagle and I are going for our walk on the track. I am going to convince him that we should go into the city today and look for used equipment. Maybe I can sneak into the book store while I am at it!

Chat with you all later
Brenda

Hello All,

Ok so I don't think it's the weather that's bringing me down. I don't know what it is, but today although it's nippy, the sun is shining, and I still stayed in bed all morning. It didn't help that I forgot my anti depressent last night and couldn't sleep until 5 am. I even got hungry so went and had a bowl of cereal at 3 am. I had the points spare so that's ok. Anyway I am here now, and when I am done I am going to try to motivate myself to do my Richard Simmons DVD, at least one song anyway, and then I have to bake some cup cakes for the family, and make some Turkey Burgers ready for tea. So I might have stayed in bed, but I want to get something achieved today.

Brandnewme - I think it's great that you have maintained your weight. When things aren't going right for some reason, it's still an achievement to not gain weight. So to you. I hope when whatever is bothering you is sorted out that you will be able to concentrate on losing again.

Brenda M - so glad you loved the film, and having the cinema to yourself, well I would have loved that I could pretend I was somebody famous who had hired the cinema for a private viewing

Wow, I don't blame you for giving up on the French. Why was it going to take you so long before it would benefit your career. What is it you do for the goverment. I hope whatever it is, you enjoy it?

I think it was a good decision to drop the class and work out more instead, and I am so envious that you are going to be setting up your own home gym. Even the extra room would be brilliant here lol. I have a tiny two bedroom house. It was fine when it was just me and my daughter, but it's really not big enough for a family of 4 which we are now. I hope you do get to set your gym up quickly and that you enjoy using it. I must admit I don't know what a Giselle is, but if you would feel better using that than an elliptical trainer then go for it. No point buying something you won't want to use.

I keep meaning to tell you that when we eventually do get a pet, hubby and I both really want to have a Beagle. Are they good natured dogs, what about their hair, do they lose a lot?

Isn't it amazing how many of us met our hubbys or BFs on the Net. Do you think it was something to do with our size and wanting men to know us for who we are before they saw how big we are? I think there was a bit of that in it for me, but mainly I couldn't go out because I either had nobody to go with, or if I did, I had nobody to look after my daughter for me. The Internet was my social life. I met Daren in November 2001 online, then for real on New Years Day 2002, 3 weeks later he moved in, and in the November we got married. The funny thing is, that although it was such a whirlwind romance, all my family could see how right we are for each other and nobody tried to talk us out of it. And here we are nearly 3 years later, still as besotted with each other as the day we met

Luan - what's up, you haven't written in ages, have you found a new job?

PJ - hello, hello, anybody out there?

Alison - haven't seen you on messenger for a chat, and you haven't posted here in a while. Please come back. Even if you aren't on track I think this is the right place to be to help you get back your motivation.

Sharon (neurotic) - hope you are doing well, have missed you posting here too.

Sharon (voodoo) - got some stuff to do after this, but I should be online again around 3.30 or 4 pm, so I will look out for you. I enjoy our chats.

To everybody else I have missed I hope you are having a great day, and that if you aren't losing that you are at least maintaining. Keep positive,

Hugs,

Ammi

Good morning! Well, ok it isn't exactually morning anymore.

I was wanting to ask you all something. I know that you weigh-in here and update your tickers once a week. Right? Do you only weigh yourself on that ONE day a week? I seem to have an obsession with weighing myself. Right now that doesn't seem to be a problem because the # keeps getting smaller but I know it will be a BIG problem when I stop losing or even gain a little. I know that I am not supposed to weigh everyday but I can't seem to make myself stop. If you only weigh once a week how do you keep from doing it everyday?

Thanks for any advice gals.

Manda

Manda -- Girl I think we can all relate when it comes to wanting to weigh yourself everyday. I did that the first week or so and my husband got on to me because he said if I keep doing that I may get frustrated one day if I don't see a loss. It really can become an obsession but if you only do it once a week....think of how surprised you will be at the end of the week. I think it will feel more like an accomplishment because if you peek during the week you kind of already know about how much you lost. Hide your scale if you have to. My weigh in is tomorrow...I feel like maybe I have lost a few pounds because I have done really well this week with my eating and exercise....I can't wait to weigh in and I am sure after I weigh myself I will have to post on here. Hope you all have a great day girls!!!

Manda--I, too, am a scale addict. I weigh myself every single day, sometimes even multiple times throughout the day just because those fluctuations actually amuse me (eat 6 ounces of soup and gain 2 pounds--WHAT!? ). However, I only count my official weigh-in at my Thursday night TOPS meetings. I have read that if you cannot stay away from the scale, then record your weight every day and then average it for the week to see your true progress. So much of our bodies' fluctuations in weight are simply from water (since humans are about 75% water). Sometimes water goes in and stays in longer than it should (thanks to sodium in food, hormones, growing muscles, and many other things), which can show up as a weight gain when it isn't really fat you've gained. If you really feel the need to weigh yourself everyday, that's fine, as long as you understand that there WILL be some gains, no matter how much you exercise or how strict your diet is. As long as you understand what's going on in your body, you'll understand that most fluctuations are not fluctuations in fat, but rather only water, so it's not so frustrating. I hope that all makes sense

Hi I'm Ammi and I used to be a weighaholic Seriously I used to weigh too often, and I noticed those fluctuations that Jill mentioned. Every single one of my diets has failed when I have weighed and seen a gain. I get to a point where I am teetering on having a pig out and I say to myself, ok, weigh and if you have lost weight, stay strong, if not, pig out. And the times the scales have said I have stayed the same, or gained, I have used that as an excuse to give up. SO, now I only weigh once a month, and only because I need to know when the lbs stop coming off so I know to drop my points or exercise more, or both. Yes I am still tempted to weigh before the month is up, but I don't want the scales to beat me again. So I stay strong. When I do find myself tempted I will give my husband the battery from the scales and tell him not to give it to me under any circumstances until it's my day to weigh lol.

I started this diet at midnight on a Sunday night. For some reason I decided to weigh and nearly fainted when I saw how heavy I was. I had put on about 28 lbs in 2 months taking me to my highest weight ever. So now, I weigh once a month on a Sunday at midnight. I don't wear the same thing every time because if that is going to make that much a difference to what I weigh then I am in big trouble lol.

Hugs,

Ammi
