HI EVERYONE -- esp to our latest NEWBIES (Patti & Maldonato); glad you joined us over here. Maldonato, your plan sounds good, but you may find 1600 a bit low. I would have started at 1800, then went down by 100 if I hit plateau or stall, but give it a try for a few months like others suggested and see how you feel.

dGRAMIE -- on reaching your main goal of re-losing all the weight you had gained! That is fantabulous, girl; so happy for you!!! Go ahead and ....

MEM -- my sister has the problem of having to buy larger sizes becuz she has huge puppies; and I have the other issue ... my tops are often too big at the top in order to look well on my tummy/hip section. Two sisters with the opposite issues. LOL! However, I was successful at finding some really nice bras and got them all on sale (most of them have wires which I find gives me more lift). I think they look really nice; and I am at a 40 C now (that's not too bad).

As time goes on my body is still changing; I have gained some weight back but my muscles are toning up a bit in my belly which has brought the lower part back up again, and it doesn't look so bad now. The doctor was right; it was partly swollen and it is smaller now too. I am really happy about that.

MAPLE -- I agree with MEM about altering your favorite skirt. When I really love something that is what I do. I have some favorite dresses at home, esp a lovely velvet one; if it doesn't fit right, either I will alter it myself or get someone else to do it. We have a few ladies in our town that do that sort of work.

Well, my hair started to fall out much sooner than anyone expected (after only the first round of chemo), so we had to cut it yesterday. It is now a short bob just below my ears, with a few bald spots. We'll change that to a pixie next, I think. I put a picture in the faith forum of what my hair looked like only a few days ago; and me too, after my tumor surgery. Here's a link to it for a peek ... http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/fait...-thread-3.html

cuter I actually made it to the bra sale! Between addition elle and penningtons I got about 800 dollars worth of clothes (a coat, dress, two bras, two pairs of jeans, two nighties, five shirts...) for around 400. I love the one bra I bought. It's sooo comfy!

I love penningtons straight fit jean! I finally have a pair that's flattering. Nice and fitted in the rear and thighs with plenty of gut room!

Dgramie What a lovely dress. What type of bag and shoes will you use?

Justwant I have the same problem as you with tops being too big in the bust to accommodate my hips.
Although not the same reason, I have no hair due to alopecia. I wear wigs most of the time. You have lovely hair in your pic and look healthy.

I won't be able to budget any clothes shopping for now, oh well.

Cuter - hah, lucky that someone intervened for you earlier than they did me! Since you were talking about additionelle I take it you are also in Canada?

pluckypear - I hope the weekend went well! I bought some local kale and made a sauteed veggie side dish of crimini mushrooms, zucchini, a red onion, the kale and some grape tomatoes. It was really tasty, and I may use it to top some pasta later in the week. It depends on dinners, right now I have one of my exceptions to being vegetarian: a few slices of left over corned beef brisket to have for dinner tonight and I also have the fixings for vegetarian reubens for later in the week, so as to continue the vaguely Irish themed menu.

Congrats on the loss! Especially wearing jeans, and TOM. How was your brunch out?

dgramie - wow, you are already off heart burn medications? That is really great. Congrats! I think it is harder to get back on track after a bit of a regain, but once you do you can really get back some momentum, I'm so happy for you. Also, I love that dress, it is really lovely!

sassyangies - so glad to see that the scale is moving for you. I hope you had a great (working) weekend!

Patti909 - (waves). Hello and welcome! Congrats on your losses thus far.

maldonado - I would say you shouldn't be taking diuretic pills unless there is a medical reason to take them and your doctor has told you to take them. Otherwise, yes, eating 1600 to 1800 calories a day should result in losses for you. Don't lie to yourself about calories or assume that because something sounds healthy that it is, though. Look up nutrition data for EVERYTHING and either weigh and measure or become VERY good at guesstimating. Guesstimating is what I do but you still have to be careful and cannot lie to yourself about the calories in food.

I would also say: you should start at 20:00 minutes and increase your exercise time gradually, and you should probably NOT do that sort of formal exercise 7 days a week. Give your body a break or change it up.

Rosebud - oh, nice bras on sale sounds lovely. I think the wired ones do work better, too. The next bras I buy will be wired. My everyday ones are getting too big so I have to tug the back band down regularly, but I keep wondering if I should wait to order something new.

Thank you for the link to your picture! You look lovely there, though I'm so sorry to hear about your hair. Cutting it short will help you keep it a bit longer and I'm glad you did that. It was a really emotional moment for my mom and I when I cut her long hair short, and I pray you're bearing up well.

Have you found any wigs? Think of all the different people you can be when you start trying them on. Like Alias.

Does your hospital / oncology center / local Cancer Society have any sort of wig exchange? It's nice to have options if you need them!

I had a good weekend. I have a follow-up appointment with my doctor on Tuesday, tried to reschedule since I have a meeting but her next appointment wasn't 'til the end of April. Hopefully I will make it in and out in time to get to my morning meeting.

I had a good weekend! It was 60 on Saturday, then snowed /iced all day Sunday. We still had some snow/ice on the ground at my house, this morning, when it started thunderstorming. March is such a strange weather month!

I did my volunteer thing and went shopping at a clearance place (sort of one-step-down from Marshalls/TJ Maxx) and found a really cute dress for $15. Celebrated St. Patrick's Day with family last night, and it was nice. I had a Monty Python Holy Grail Ale and some corned beef and cabbage. I have leftover cabbage (and a WEE bit of corned beef) to have for dinner tonight, too.

YAY JANE! I love shopping like that but I am kind of holding off and doing little bits here and there.

I managed to buy one bra at the "shrink into" size I was aiming for but it is 1 that will get me to the store without hanging free when the 38 bands are too loose...

Mnem yes I am. I am just east of Toronto these days.

Waving from the back row....read a few pages to follow the conversations.

I will learn who is who in a few days time following the conversations. Until then please accept my sincere congrat's to all for loses and non scale victories.

Bras: I love getting them at Lane Bryant...but have opted for comfort in my 40's versus prettiness. I do however love to have a few pretty bras to still raise the eyebrow of my husband of 24 years. I'm currently a 46 or 48 DD...I'm looking to lose the numbers not the cup size. We shall see.

Today was day one for me again. I did great! My BS this morning was 147 (I always have high numbers in the morning, we are adjusting meds to work on that) Breakfast was a special K light breakfast sandwich, snack was a 100 cal pack of almonds. Lunch was a salad, progresso soup and a non fat bb greek yogurt. BS when I got home was 99 (happy dance ) I haven't had an under 100 reading in like 8 months. Dinner was chicken thigh cooked in the crock pot in bbq sauce, a sweet potato and salad. Now I am waiting my 2 hours to take my BS again and it will be snack time before bed...an apple and some cheese.

My hardest time of the day is right now..the time after dinner but before bed...for some reason I think I need to eat and snack. Water...lots of water...that is what I have to do.

Hello Ladies-

I'm new around here so I am just picking up on the conversation, but I want to know if anyone has a huge upper arm problem. I don't like to wear short sleeves/sleeveless because my upper arms are literally rolls of fat/huge.

I already have flappy arms, but I want to know if anyone has had to go up a shirt size because of it. I have the distinct problem of the way some shirts are cut if I go up the size it is way to big in the bust, I have comparatively small guns, but down the size makes my arms feel constricted. I usually wear between a 3x/4x.

I can tell everyone that I have had problems finding the right size bra at Lane Bryant. I have come to like the website Her Room for bras.

I am glad I found this site, I am determined to lose the weight. I am a music teacher and we have composite pictures done every 3 years, and I was disgusted at mine this year, I want it to be very different three years from now. I joined the local hospital healthplex and I am trying to be all about portion control. I know that good things do not come to people who don't work hard, and I am willing to put in the work.

I am looking forward to sharing my journey will all the folks on here.

Welcome Sandy and Melody!

My arms are quite large. I do find some tops too tight in the arms, primarily plus size tops purchased at non plus size stores. Usually though, because my chest and gut are so large, the tops are large enough to accommodate.

cuter - I think with the rate at which you are losing, it is wise to hold off. Mind, I COULD say that to Jane too, but spring/summer are coming soon and I bet she needs a new wardrobe.

sandy - congrats on the good blood sugar numbers, AND on getting back to the healthy eating. It is totally worth it, and it sounds like your first day went spectacularly. Here's to the second day and the day after that!

As for the time between dinner and bed, have you ever considered a hobby that requires your hands? Like knitting or crocheting or embroidery? That might give you something to do that would help you get through your snacky urges.

Melody March - where are you in Ohio? I live close to Ohio, and my brother and mother both went to OSU. I have had similar problems with clothing sizes given the size of my arms. My arms HAVE gotten smaller, but they are still comparatively large. Right now I wear 2x in regular plus sizes and 1x at Catherines, both of which correspond to an 18/20. Most of the shirts seem to work for my arms at this weight, but I wonder how that will continue as I keep losing.

Rosebud - I actually ADORE your short hair. I agree with dgramie that it makes you look SO much younger. It sort of lifts up your face and looks lovely and modern. Do you know, if I were losing my hair anyway, I would probably go nuts with color and go like, RED or something. I would like to try red hair but never get around to it. Have you considered something like that? Do you dye your hair or is it still naturally dark? (IF NATURALLY DARK, I AM SO JEALOUS.)

IIII had a follow-up with my doctor this morning. I had a low platelet count in December. She said that it was still below-normal, but it had gone UP since December so she was not too worried, and said that we would repeat the test in six months. That was a relief. I wasn't worried about something being wrong, so much as, heh, the potential medical bills of an extensive hematological work-up. (I have a $2500 deductible on my insurance, so the first CT scan is on me!) But still: it is a relief.

Day 2....and going strong. BS this morning was 137...nice!

Today here in Maine it's a snowy day. My office is closed due to the bad traveling. Just like school...we got a snow day. This, however, leaves me to keeping busy at home. There is lots I could do, but not a lot that I want to do domestic wise anyway.

Melody~ My upper arms are huge, I have always hatted them. It seems no matter what, my upper arms stay big. I usually find myself pulling at the arm sleeves of shirts to stretch them out a bit. I hate to wear tank tops because of the arms.

Rosebud~ I love the shorter hair, it looks beautiful on you.

mnemosyne~ yup, I do crochet...and try to keep my fingers working with that, still the mental urge is there...just need to break the habit. All habits can be broken or tamed? Glad your blood work was a tad better.

Radiojane~ Thanks for the welcome.

Rosebud I love the hair and dgramie the dress is gorgeous!

I hit my halfway point today, and I really working through the ramifications emotionally. How on earth did I get THAT BIG? How can I have lost 117 pounds, and still have that many, if not more, to go? It's all a lot to wrap my head around.

We're having a birthday dinner for my man tonight. 29 years old today! Still planning on staying on plan though now that the scale is finally moving in the right direction!

radiojane - First of all, congratulations on making it to the halfway point and losing 117 lbs. That is amazing! I understand how it can be a lot to deal with emotionally though. I've found myself wondering the same thing. I feel like I must have been living in some sort of half-alive denial for years. It can be overwhelming to think about it. I hope you're able to put the thoughts aside and have some birthday fun with your SO tonight though!

sandy - Welcome! Glad to hear you're still going strong. We got a lot of snow here in Vermont too, but it looks like it's slowing down. I hope you have a fun snow day!

mnemosyne - Wow, I'd be relieved too! I'm glad your count is improving and hope it keeps going in the right direction.

I successfully altered my skirt yesterday and now it fits again! I had to take it in about 4 inches. I'm a beginner when it comes to sewing, but it's a long pleated skirt so you can't really see the seam when I have it on.

I've been doing pretty well lately (especially with exercise- I've really been pushing myself this month!) but I have a few challenging days coming up. I'm presenting at a conference on Friday, so I'll be at a hotel Thursday/Friday. I'm planning on packing some healthy food because I know there will be lots of all-you-can-eat buffet meals throughout the conference and I'd like to avoid those! I don't trust myself at a buffet just yet.

This weekend is also my wife's birthday so I'm taking her out to celebrate and she wants to go out to eat on Saturday. Fortunately, she wants to go to a restaurant that has some healthy options that I can make work. I just have to be careful to make good choices.
