Hope I'm not intruding, but I wanted to say hello to fellow 300+ers. I just joined the site officially, though I've been reading it for a while.
This is the first time I've ever been serious about losing weight, so I'm hoping that if I can make some friends and join a support network. Any advice for me, as I start this crazy journey?
Rosie - Welcome!!! First off, I would choose an eating plan that you'll be able to stick with in the long run. Either low carb, counting calories, whatever you think will work best for YOU. Everyone is different, and different things work for everyone! Also, start exercising slowly. Do something small to start off with, and build from there. Don't worry if you start at only a few minutes a day!
This place is GREAT for inspiration, advice, and overall support, so keep posting!!
Julia == You asked about work exercise and the exercise thread. I tell people that they choose what to count and what not to, but the spirit of the thread is to motivate us to do exercise we normally wouldn't. So, if you have to do it for work, you don't really have a choice. I would lean toward not counting it, unless counting it would make you work harder at it.
But this isn't just "my" exercise thread and I would be interested in hearing from others, too!
I dont count anything as exercise unless its real exercise..i do count gardening if im digging. I dont count playing and running around after the kids at the playground as exercise.I do get a good workout though. I only count the minutes I spend doing a reg workout. I think you know your body and know if you should count it..I think its up to you.
We have at least an inch of sleet and freezing rain on the ground already. We are suppost to get at least double this and then 3-6 inches of snow on top of it. Looks like I will have the week off work.NO school around here in this kind of weather.
My plan is to stay in my pjs, spent an hour sewing this morning and then 30 exercising and do that morning , noon and evening.Going to put a pot of soup on early today incase we was to lose power later in the day.
hugs to all and stay warm
dgramie - I hope your brother is doing better. He has been through so much as has your family *HUGS*
Jilly - I agree to make sure that WLS is right for you. There is a certain percentage of people who do have complications from seizures and hernias to what dgramie's brother is going through. In fact I believe there is a website, created by a woman who had WLS who has seizures and other health issues, and she is collecting data/stories from other WLS people who have similar issues. I wouldn't be concerned if it was cheating or being selfish, you aren't if you choose any path to help you loose your weight. I would be concerned because it is surgery and that can be invasive and not always go according to plan. I considered WLS for a short spell, but decided for me loosing the weight with diet and exercise was the best thing.
I also don't think WLS makes things any easier. In fact I think in some ways it makes the journey harder because you have more surgeries and other possible complications for the future. I'm sure you are getting as many opinions as you can gather, I mean from doctors, and that is key I think. Only that matters is you being safe, happy, and healthy.

WOOO exercising and doing things I should be. Eating is a bit of a struggle at the moment, hormones. Hopefully that will ease off a bit soon.
I got one of those iPod Shuffles to take with me when I walk. Just the inexpensive one, in PINK! Haha. I figure music makes me feel light and motivated and not bored and wanting to go home. So, it is a good thing. Will put it to good use tomorrow. I hurt my shoulder exercising, so waiting for that to wear off a bit.
Working on various things, still waiting to hear back for health insurance....scalp is healing. I have a few patches of itchy itchy, but I noticed when I exercised my scalp didn't burn and itch. That was a first! We'll see if that is just a fluke or not.
Thanks for the welcome, gals! I'm really going to try to focus on being carb-healthy, since I know my problem is insulin, and exercising more on a daily basis.
Wouldn't you know, today is a snow day and we're stuck inside? I guess I'll just have to pull down the treadmill and walk there for half an hour or so.
Hi & WELCOME Rosie!!!xxxxxxx
Kayley, LOVELY dress & not too 'girly', lol!!!! What a lovely colour too. You certainly would never guess that it had been altered, as all three dresses aren't identical it must have helped. Whoever did the alterations was very good!!! xxxxxxxx
Bax BIG CONGRATS!!!!!! WTG on the PHENOMENAL weight-loss, TOLD you it would come off this week!!!!lol Wow I'm CLOSE to being down HALF a stone, lol & I'm excited. Before long you will be in those skinny 12-14 jeans!! (I'm GREEN with jealousy, lolxxxxx)xxxxxxxx
Annie where are you & how are you???xxxxxxxxx
Jilly, I don't blame you one bit, it's your life & your body. If I could afford it I would probably have had a lap-band. Look at Annie, how well she's done, it's a TOOL to weight-loss & if it helps you get to a healthy weight what does it matter??? I truly hope it all works out for you & so sorry you now have diabetes, here's hoping it goes away soon.xxxxxxx
Umm nothing else to add I think, very tired, Steve is ill & kept me awake all night with his tossing & turning & groaning & weird noises. I'm OP but not exercising much BUT we did go for a fast walk (the boys were on their bikes) for an hour on Sunday (must add it to the exercise minutes). It's a start..lol mUS get on that exercise bike, what an expensive clothe's horse, lol!!!

Dgramie – Stay warm! I definitely need some soup today. It’s been miserable outside for weeks now, and I’ve stayed in the last couple of days, but have to ‘brave it’ today.
Jacquie – The iPod will definitely help! I recently got one in pink myself, and it helps soooo much, when I’m starting to lose momentum or something, to have that upbeat music on there.
Sharon – Yes, the alterations lady did a wonderful job. We found fabric that was identical in color & texture, so that definitely helped!! She just told us the color, and we were allowed to pick out our dresses, which was nice, because the other two girls look good in anything, because they are tiny, but empire waist is the ONLY one that looked good on me. Hope the hubby feels better tonight, so you can get some sleep!
Not much to add my way. I’ve been stuck in the house for the last three days, and I’m going a bit stir crazy, so I’m going to get cleaned up, and head out to my friend’s house, to keep her company. The Biggest Loser is on tonight. Yay! It’s one of the only shows I make sure I catch every week. That, and “The Office”.
Okay, so I see talking about WLS here is a bad idea. I won't bring it up again (but thank you, Sharon!). I'm not stupid or unprepared--I know the statistics, the risks, and the potential complications. Again, if I hadn't research my butt off, I wouldn't even be getting the procedure I am getting since only about 25 surgeons in the entire country perform it and most people get WLS without even knowing other procedures even exist. Thanks for letting me poke my head in--I'll poke it right back out now and go back to hiding in the WLS forum
Awww, Jill! Don't leave now! I miss you, chick! Don't let people get you down. If you decide not to post on this particular area again, just know that I'm thinking of you, and I wish you nothing but the best.
Jilly - I agree with Kayley. Dont go. Only you can decided what is best for you. I love to read your points of view. Your opinion has always helped me clarify mine! Check in with Annie. She has had wonderful results. Dont know her whole history, but she would be an awesome resource!
