Mimi - just popping in here to add something. If you're new to some exercises you will gain a little muscle at the start. However, you will eventually lose some of that LBM as you go, although with luck, you may be able to retain a good deal of it. I use a daily number, then average it as I find my scale is sometimes prone to as much as 1-1.5% variation. So as long as the monthly average keeps going down I'm happy. Since I started tracking it I have lost 3.5 lbs of LBM, however, in that same period I've lost 27.4 pounds of fat. Congrats on the progress you've made so far!

Anne, thanks for the info. I figured I'd be losing some lean body mass as well. :-) I just looked at your before and current pictures - congrats on your hard work and great results! :-)
