I've made raspberry jam in the past, but usually I mix it into other fruits for jam. As the box of jam is just behind me in the crawlspace, we currently have:

Damson Plum, Nectarine, Apricot, Ginger Marmalade, and 6-fruit jam. That last one is what I make when I find too many fruits left over in the freezer. I think it's boysenberry, raspberry, gooseberry, plum, cranberry, and rhubarb (but that's just a guess). It might have nectarines instead of gooseberries. In the past I've also made raspberry/red currant (buying a bush in a couple of weeks) and strawberry rhubarb. I've made jellies before, but I really like jams/conserves much better.

I've tried a couple of others that we obviously didn't like enough to try again. Or perhaps they just fall out of favour. (apple ginger, pear marmalade, blueberry melon, sweet/sour cherry, etc.) Okay, except for the pear marmalade I think most of those other's weren't great. I like the idea of cherry jam, but getting it the right consistency was tricky. It was either too thin (although good with ice cream) or you had to pry it out if it had been put in the fridge!

(Oh, and before you all think we have a huge amount of jam, we're down to less than 18 jars, which for us is low. )

LOL...she is my Assistant Rabbi. She is not the host. Everything being servied actually will be kosher...but that just tickled me so much. I'll wait and see how I feel as we get closer to the actual date. I am too hormonal to make sane decisions right now.

Oh Anne..you started writing about jam and I started to drool on the keyboard..especially the ones you made with pears or ginger. I am sucker for homemade anything...and I love wonderful fruits and flavors.

It's about 88 today and they are saying 100+ by Friday. Gross. But it gives me an excuse to not have to cook (too hot).

I had my last meeting last night with my high school youth group exec. board and it's our tradition to let everyone say a few words to the rest of the board about the year. So it came to my turn...and I honestly didn't think i would cry. I usually save that up for our big banquet in June. But I lost it at one point when I was talking to them as a group. They are wonderful kids but at one point this year they were all in crisis for vasrious reasons..all real and all legit..and it broke my heart because I felt at the time that I wasn't going to have the strength to be there for them all year because it was so emotionally draining for me. They were calling me and emailing me contantly needing help, reassurance and love. I'm proud of them all for finding ways to cope.

Then afterwards I had a talk with the one who needs the most help of all...I had sort of a mother-daughter talk with her...because she does not have a mom or anything resembling a mother figure in her life...and I also was raised by a single dad myself. Talked about her body image and the choices she makes regarding what she wears and the messages her clothing sends. She happens to be short and very busty and she likes to look trendy and cute..but a lot of the times her tops are way too revealing and her skirts are too short. I told her I would take her bra shopping if she could get used to the idea that the bra isn't always going to be pretty and lacy and cute...but that it will fit. She is about 5'0" and she is either a 32E or a 34DD...I'm getting her measured. I feel for her..my first bra came to me in a paper lunch bag as a hand-me-down from the daughter of a lady who worked in my dad's office.

Goodness....

Anne-YUM the jam flavors all sound so good! I can't wait to make some this year. I think I am down to 2 or 3 jars.

Julee-Have fun bra shopping and thank you for taking this girl under your wing! You are definitely a blessing to her.

O.K. hubby brought home PB2. Has anyone else tried it? It is really awesome. He bought it in the health food section of our grocery store. It is powdered peanut butter! 75% fat free!! For real! There is also a website with a store locator and recipes to use it in. You can use it in anything you use peanut butter! I like to put the it in to my vanilla protein shakes and he likes to put it into his chocolate shakes! And today he told me that he put some into his yogurt and dipped his apples into it! I will so have to try that! YUM! Our family loves P.B. so this will be awesome to take camping and store on the cupboard shelf if we can keep it there that long. Let me know how ya'll like it!
I put a picture of daughter and me on avatar. I am still trying to figure out how to add pictures to the pic. page though. I'll let you know. Penny

Well my son called today and said they either have a very proper young lady or a bashful little boy.The baby had its legs cross and they couldnt see what it was. It was also sucking its thumb. It was awesome hearing him in awe!! Next ultrasound in a month. Maybe then i can find out what my first grandbaby will be. NOT that it really matters!!!

Catherine_ my SIL is a very pretty woman! Just kinda immature for her age to say the least!!

anne_ I love jams and preserves. My grandma use to make watermellon rind preserves. I can still remember having to eat watermelon so she could make it.I would love to have her recipe!!!

carol and dimples- have a safe trip!!!

Well its about time for idol...wonder who is going home tonight?
Been on track all week and still havent lost what i gained from eating dinner on sunday. I know i ate to much but not this much!!! Im upping my water intake today. Maybe stress is causing me to not loose it!!
have a great night all

Lindsey, so good to see you again. It sounds like you have a major decision to make in where life will lead you. Take your time and consider all aspects. I like your hair. Did you get it cut? How exciting to still be with Jed. That's great!!

Penny, O poor older AND younger daughter. LOL....they must of both really hated that.

Carol, you look great in those clothes!!! Wow! Another 5k? You go girl!!

Anne, so you've been busy outside, huh? Isn't it great to get out there and get things cleaned up and ready to plant? We've just had rain so haven't been able to get my veggies planted yet. I did get some plants in the ground but still have to get the veggie patch to drain better. Have fun with all your chores!

Ah Kayley, to be that young again. Such memories! Did you go shopping or the zoo? I think I would of opted for the zoo. It's been ages since I've been to one. Have fun on either venture.

Catherine, Wow....you guys were busy at the game!!!! So your a trainer now huh? Look out trainees!!! RuN RUN!!!!!

Annie, I'm so glad you two are going to sit down and discuss it. Together you'll come up with something that is right for the both of you. Just keep in mind I can crochet really pretty baby blankets!!!!

Work went pretty well today. Well, if sitting at a computer doing little test on how well I can cope with people, bagging, and security counts as work. Sounds like more of the same for tomorrow. One other guy was hired and going thru the orientation the same time I am so it makes it better when there is someone else there. Another good thing is, I get paid the weeks Jim doesn't so now we will have a check every week coming in. YEAH!!!! I still don't know what my schedule will be. They open at 6am and close at 12am so it can be any ol time they choose. Some good benefits too from what I've been told. So it sounds like this might be my new home for a while. I'm a bit tired. I didn't drink any water so I'm working on that tonight. I can have it at the cash register too!! Ok, I'm gonna go get some laundry done and then relax. Have a great night!

Sharon – I am glad to see you are still posting here! Your chicken sounds super yummy!! Save some for me?

Anne – I definitely know all about that. Heh. I’m not a fan of this intense crap-ola…but it’s like I almost feel like it’s necessary? I dunno. I have a kind of screwed up mentality.

Debbie – Glad that your first day went well. Did you already go through that really long orientation crap-ola? I know there’s LOTS of computer training to do now. Bleh. I decided to go shopping, since it was rainy and nasty. The kids still went, but I went and spent money instead! lol

Julee – Be kind to myself? Much much easier said than done. I’m working on being nicer to myself in therapy, and have been for about a year. I’ve made SOME progress…like, every once in a while, I can look in the mirror, and say, “I look pretty today”. It’s not often, but every couple of weeks or so. Much more than in the past. Progress for me is slow, but sure.

Catherine – I think you’re right about “Posh”. Heh. I couldn’t imagine her wolfing down a hotdog.

I picked up some really cute stuff at Fashion Bug today. They have a new “Junior Plus” line, and have tons of cute stuff….the kind of stuff they used to sell at Torrid (with skulls and stuff). I picked up 3 great shirts. And one of them was a size smaller than what I’ve been having to buy, so that made me happy. (the other two were still in the bigger size…but I’ll take what I can get for now!!). After work, I picked up the cake for Felicia’s Bridal Shower.

I’ve decided that I am NOT eating any of the cake this weekend. If and IF I decide I want something sweet, I’ll have a small portion of fruit. Not completely low-carb, but a healthier choice than the cake!!

I then headed to Walmart, and exchanged the scale. I tested the new one IN the store, and it works fabulously, so I’m a happy camper. Haha. Picked up some new earrings, too. I’ve been an accessories junkie lately. I think I’m becoming a girl, finally.

Well, I’m going to hop in the tub. I think a bubble bath is in order! I didn’t make it to the gym, but spent 5 HOURS shopping! And we were hoofin’ it! Lol. I’ll check in before bed.

Julee-Yeah, I guess a rabbi isn’t going to serve pork at a wedding shower. I try really hard not to make decisions when I’m hormonal either. I get mad, and then I cry, and then I get mad that I’m crying.

Debbie-I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want me as a boss. Last year I told a nun that she was spending too much time talking, and not enough time wrapping. Thankfully she thought I was kidding (I wasn’t at the time). My mom was a caterer, and at times like that, I actually hear her voice come out of my mouth. It’s scary. I can still smell hotdog coming out of my pores. The nun in question is my boss at church. She assigns me the hardest topics to teach. This spring I got formation of conscience, incarnation, and redemption. Not easy topics. I wonder if it retaliation.

Kayley-I’m pretty sure that someone like Posh doesn’t even eat that much in one sitting.

Just got back from singing at an appreciation mass for the religious sisters. I got to meet one of the sisters from the order that is paying for my schooling in the fall. That was kind of awkward. I don’t like asking for or accepting help. It’s much easier by mail or email than face to face. Of course I wasn’t having to ask for money at the reception afterwards, she just wanted to meet me. They were very nice, and that just made me feel worse. When people start complimenting me, I just want to run and hide.

Kayley: being kind to yourself is about much more than telling yourself you look pretty...its about being forgiving and not berating yourself when you have a slip-up and allowing room for a little error. as my ww leader says...the goal is to be slim...not saintly. it's so easy to get caught up in striving for absolute perfection.

bad cramps...bad bad.

good american idol..good good.

we went to the farmers market tonight instead of weight watchers and bought some lovely fruits and other goodies.

Julee – I’m working on it…hehe. I need to get my butt back to therapy. I haven’t been in a month. Bleh.

Okay, I woke up a bit late, so it’s off to work for me. I’ve got so much to do today, it’s unreal. Work of course, then during the break, we're going to Walmart, and picking up the fruit, and all the last-minute stuff I need for the bridal shower. Mom's getting herself a new digital camera, too. Which I'm going to borrow for the weekend, since mine took a crap. Bleh.

After work, I've gotta come back home, and make the punch, the kabobs, cut up all the fruit for the fruit tray, and get all of the decorations and stuff all together; And I've gotta decorate the cake either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how much time I've got.

Hope you all have a GREAT and OP day!!!

Oh, and unofficial weigh-in today says I'm 5 lbs down! Let's hope it sticks!!!

Debbie-So glad your day at work went alright. Orientation always seems to take forever. You will make it just fine. Glad to hear that you can have your water with you too!! I always like it too when we got paid every other week then ours worked so we got a check too. Then a new person came to my husbands company and she like the 5th and 20th so the company changed to that. I HATE it! But who cares about the little people who do all the work! I hope today goes wonderful for you, and try and drink more water, I am proud of you.

Kayley-Sounds like the shopping was fun! I am not much of a shopper but the husband is. So it works for me except when the girls want to go, then I have to take them as I have way more patience then he does. So I have to make 2 days of it, one fore each of them. they don't shop well together. They are 8 years apart and like different things and you can't split mom to go into two stores!! Glad to hear the party stuff is falling into place.

Well, this morning I have to take the dog to school for daughter's class. That one could be an experience!!!!! The cat was easy to take. then clean off kitchen table to make a graduation cake tomorrow morning as that is the only time I will have. Keeping busy. Have a great day all! Penny

Hello my sweet Peeps! (and hiding roosters)

I went to bed at 8pm last night and slept until 6am! I guess I was tired. Unfortunately, I might have slept hard in one spot and a muscle in my upper back is spasming. Never a dull moment! hehe. I have one of those 8 hour training classes today. Ugh. lol. I might have to take some back meds to make it through the class.

I made it (barely) through day 2 of no cookies, candy or ice cream. I was ready to eat my keyboard (or a frozen missle hotdog) by the end of the day. My goal is to eat healthier and fill my alloted calories with better foods. I'm not planning on making this a total denial of these things forever, just to readjust my eating habits.

Catherine, people wanting to meet me or compliment me have always made me uncomfortable. I pretty much live my life anonymously. I suppose it's because that's the way I grew up. That someone has noticed my presence is both nice and creepy to me. The good thing is that people's attention spans are short, and they go away. hehe.

Hugs to all,
Ratkitten

Morning all....

Well no Y last night..I pick up my brother after work since he lives with us,,,and we didnt get home til late because it was 5 min til closing and a car rolled in his garage for an oil change..UGH!!!! He knew I was mad but there was nothing he could do about it. I told him if he aint ready tonight he can take the bus..lol. Which is not nice because I live so far from his work it takes about 3 hours on the bus. But dang it I missed two days of working out.

We had food catered to us yesterday at work and I did really well with my choices. I didnt have any soda..and I skipped the desert tray. I did bring a granola bar because I knew I would want something sweet.

Well I am off to make some money lol.. have a great day all!!

Kayely, YES!!! there is tons of computer stuff to be done for orientation. I don't know how many I did yesterday, but I'm sure there is more tomorrow.
Sounds like you scored on clothes and jewelry!!!

Catherine, I'm the same way. I don't take compliments or anything of that nature well, it sort of embarrasses me.

Penny, thanks so much!!!

At Walmart, they have banana splits with all the toppings for so many days without injuiries. When she told us this, I just cringed. Also subway sandwiches if they get past another certain amount of days without injuiries. Why can't they just give money or something? Do they want fat employees? Sheesh!
Ok, gotta go get ready for another day. Have a good one ladies!!
