Hi all,

Not much to report. Today was a rough day at work. But...it's work, right?

I also have a decision to make about a surgery. I have had 4 sinus infections since July. I had sinus surgery 2 years ago. I am developing polyps again, have no sense of smell, have can't breathe through my nose too well. We moved from IL to CO this past year, and therefore I have a new ENT. I like him (we have a similar sense of humor and get along well). He has noticed that my adenoids are larger than they should be for my age...they should actually be gone at my age. Anyway, he wonders if the adenoids are a cesspool for infection and inflammation. This has been proven some in kids, but not adults. So, he can't tell me it will actually fix things. I am not really worried about the pain involved in the surgery, rather I am concerned about my weight and the effect that will have on anesthesia. I had no issues when I had my sinus surgery, although I think I was about 40 pounds lighter. So...I don't know, I feel like I am putting it off for only that reason. What are your thoughts? Am I being a wuss? Worrying too much? I have a physical next month, so I will ask my GP what she thinks. Any advice is welcome. I just came off 28 days of antibiotics....miserable way to live. And I so miss my sense of smell.

That's it for me tonight.

Take care and be well,
Angie

Julee, no, but I was thinking of asking the dietician who will be here.
on the 1.8 lbs gone forever!!!
Those people mean well, as my Mom did, but sometimes I don't think they think before they act.

Catherine, when we got the DDR, they tell you not to wear shoes. I guess they think that you will slide on the mat. I don't know. That's why I was even thinking of making a sock type thing with padding for the balls of my feet plus a no skid sole.
I didn't know that was the reason you were attacked. How sad that people only know how to retaliate by violence. I'm sorry you had to go thru something like that.
Also, thanks for helping me to understand my body better.
Good for you on getting to the pool! I bet it felt great to get in there and move around. YAY!!!

Carol, I would of posted about my NSV sooner, but like I said in my earlier post. I wanted to cry and it took me that long to get over it. I can't believe I reacted like that to just a piece of food that goes in one way and comes out the other! I know rude and crude but that's about all it amounts too.

Thanks to all who commented on my NSV. I feel good about it now. But it's like I can almost taste it. But better to give it away than let it pass my lips and on to my hips.
toodles
Debbie

Carol-I am allowed twice a week for right now in the pool. It is water aerobics with a very qualified instructor. It is held 5 days a week, so I can work up to that. They also have deep water aerobics, water kick boxing, all sorts of different things. Each rec center has it’s own kind of line up. For now, this is the closest one, shortest ride on the bus, and has a basic class. When I can work up to 5 days a week, then I might think about moving up to a harder class at another rec center. I might also be more willing to walk a bit farther from the bus stop when it isn’t -20. I survived 90 minutes in the pool, but the block walk with the wind in my face just about did me in. I had forgotten my balaclava, and had exposed skin. I’m lucky I didn’t get pneumonia.

Angie-I had outpatient, arthroscopic knee surgery in 1992. I ended up having to stay overnight because they gave me too much anesthetic. They saw my size and gave me more I guess. It mostly made me really nauseous. They sure apologized. It is a very valid thing to talk about with your doctor. They do anesthetic by the pound, so don’t make them guess. Mine obviously thought I weighed more than I did. Usually it is the other way around. It is important to get all this on the table to have a real informed consent.

Debbie-I am not allowed to do anything barefoot. I even have to wear crocs in the shower. Plantar fasciitis is a booger. Maybe some padded wool hiking socks would be easier on your feet, or maybe some of those house shoes with vinyl bottoms. You could definitely slide in them, and if you got them a little big, you could put a pair of those gel inserts into them. No exercise is good if you if it hurts you.

to Catherine for getting back in the pool!

Hey all. I know I have been really bad about posting this week. Sorry - I will try and be better!

My date was nice. It wasn't thrilling, but nice. He seems like a good guy and we had a good time talking, but I didn't feel much of a fire. But, I am willing to give him a second chance, so we are actually going out again on V day. I am not overly fond of the holiday, but it is when the movies the Spiderwick Chronicles and Jumper are coming out. There is NOTHING out right now that I want to see so we decided to brave the day and go out then. We'll see. I am not holding my breath.

I hope everyone is having a great week.

Talking

Julee – Well done on losing, fantastic for you!

Johnnie – Well done on getting the new walking shoes I am sure it will make a big difference for you! Nice to see you back here!

Debbie – Well done on passing on the cake it’s a great feeling to reach a NSV and such a positive one as well!

Catherine – Well done on going swimming! I am really enjoying going swimming again!

Carol – Well done on getting more exercise in, I am now into a new routine at the GYM and a guy that works there has been really helpful, if he see’s me he comes over to give me some support, got to admit I have no qualms since he’s gorgeous! Just makes me want to go to the gym a lot more! Lol

Angie – I guess you have to weigh up the pros and cons about surgery… At your current weight I would safe you are pretty safe since they operate on such larger people for WLS don’t they? Maybe you would need to discuss it with a surgeon and see what they say! Lots of luck for you whatever you decide on!

I think this month is slipping by so much, I am spending most of it attending appointments for the hospital with my mum, been like that since January. Near enough a hospital appointment once a week since around last November for her. Mum is a transplant patient Kidney but it’s failing and has been for so time but not so much she needed Dialysis just yet. Then last year after a high dose of antibiotics was given in error from a GP trainee at the surgery it threw her blood results for her transplant out of whack so her consultant has been monitoring her closely and she may be back on Dialysis soon again.

My mum is such a strong person, never let’s anything get her down I wish I had her outlook on life! Lol … her consultant has put her forward for another transplant but before she can go onto the list she has to undergo various tests so we’ve been here there and everywhere for weeks. She has an appointment later this month with the transplant surgeon who did the surgery for her in 1999 – I am sure she’ll get the okay as she’s fit and healthy, shame I didn’t get her skinny genes!

On top of that she’s had problems with her hearing which is being looked at and finally she’s found out what has been wrong with her eyesight for sometime, cataracts and she is having that removed as a day case later this month!

So it’s busy busy busy… now I know why I partly quit work last year, one for my own health but it’s is time to attend these appointments with mum and be more involved. It was something I couldn’t really do when I was working full time! I do miss work but I really want to spend as much quality time with mum!

So I hope you can understand why I have not been around as much. Add that to hospital visiting for my grandma who is still there but doing okay... + fitting in the gym, I've had little energy for the internet!

I hope you all have a good weekend!

Alison

Good Friday Morning Peeps - how's everybody?

I posted a separate thread about getting enough calories - it was pretty long to post here but I think it is in easy to understand terms and if anyone else is like me and struggling to eat enough calories to not make the body think it's starving it may help.

Interesting night around here last night. DH had gone to bed about 45 minutes before I did. I got to bed - along the the GG girls - went to adjust my pillow and the bed and pillow were wet. Somebody had decided they prefer my bed to going outside. So there we are pulling the linens off - starting the washing machine with the mattress pad first - not to mention the blanket and comforter - we moved to the spare bedroom. So this morning we huffed and puffed and turned and flipped the mattress - the one time I hate having such a nice mattress. I think I've had part of my exercise for the day already. Glad DH got his shoulder repaired - never coulda done it otherwise.

Aren't you glad you knew that this morning - sorry - just a tough way to end and start a day.

Catherine - I have done deep water aerobics before but never thought of them as kick boxing - I think I will suggest that to my trainer - he actually teaches a land based kick boxing - maybe it could become a regular class (means much less $$$$ than personal training). Thanks for the heads up.

Debbie - I was just giving you a hard time - I know how much your NSV touched you - sometimes it takes a little getting used to ourselves - realizing what we actually accomplished. I'm so proud for you - and even happier that you were able to share it with us.

Nancy - glad to hear the date was OK - if you enjoy the time with him then all is not lost. Fireworks may (or not) come later. I met Ed when I was 34 and we were friends long before the sparks started. We both were looking for good communicators - that was so important to us - we decided we had to know how to talk to each other. Glad to see you posting.

Bernice - WELCOME - this is a great group of people - who will support you all the way. Everyone understands the journey we are on here - as few others will. Keep posting. That's exciting to be going on a cruise - where to? We went on our first cruise for my 50th birthday just in December to the Mexican Riviera - I wanna go back - I'm gonna have to live vicariously through Annie though since she is going in 2008.

Allison - had to smile when I read your comment about the gym - gotta make you feel great to get his support. Hugs to you, your mom and grandma - 3 strong ladies.

Angie - sinus infections are the worst. Several years ago I had 7 - all fall until summer. YUCK - good luck to you. Great to see you posting.

Hope everyone has a great day. Move your bodies, drink your water and SMILE.

Hugs,
Carol

Catherine...I so hear what you are saying about the "lovesick" thing. DH (who was just the boyfriend) brought up the idea of us doin WW together in 2004...so we did and we both did well. We both needed it and we were both supporting each other. In November '05 he proposed...and it was all about losing some more to look great on my wedding day and not look god-awful in a big white dress. I actually hit my lowest weight at Thanksgiving of '05...3 days before he proposed. By March '06 when I went dress shopping...all was still well althought he weight had begun to creep back on. November '06...dress fit, wedding beautiful, hooray.

Then we met Complacency. Nice chap...but a bit of a pain when he sticks around too long because then you can't get him to leave. The wedding was over...so we both sort of stopped trying. We'd still sort of do things that were semi-WW-ish...but we were both OP. Then it started getting more and more apparent that I had regained...but my mind was tricking me...because although I had gained back 40...50...60 lbs...I was only 1 size bigger...so surely it wasn't that bad.

ARGH....bad brains!

So....yeah, love can make you care less....because you feel cared for.

Non-eaters don't get it and think that food is food and that saying no is simple and that us big folks will just take anything at all to eat and eat anything we get.

Thank goodness we have US!!!

This week's brilliant tips on restaurant eating from my WW guru:

1) If you have eaten at the restaurant enough times before...don't read the menu...decide in advance what you want.
2) Order first and stick to it.
3) Ask for half of it to be boxed up in the kitchen...if it makes it your plate...it will more likely make it to your mouth at the table.
4) Starting a meal with a broth based soup can fill you up a bit and make you less inclined to eat more right then.
5) A little mustard and olive oil mixed together makes a really nice and healthy salad dressing.

Happy weekend!!!

I'm lurking today. I have the same flu bug that HeatherDW's hubby has. Just been trying to get over it.

Hope you are all doing well.

Blessings,

Carol-I hadn’t heard of water boxing either until I came here. One of the rec centers on the other side of town is supposed to do some kind of spin class in the water. That I’d like to see. I’ve even seen a thing for a karataquatics. People spend over 6 months of the year below zero here, so they have moved everything inside, and if it can be inside, it can be in the pool.

I’m supposed to be writing. I’m being bad I guess.

Julee-Mine wasn't complacency so much as it was showing off. I am a great cook, and was trying to impress my new husband, and then his friends.

Annie-Get better. I am not a good patient, so I try not to get sick because I become so nasty.

NEW JOB!! And I never even applied for it!

Here's the story: Back in January I quit my job to concentrate on finishing my master's degree, which I've been working on part time for five years. I let a couple of people know that I was looking for part time work, but hadn't actually applied for anything yet.

This morning I got a call asking if I would be interested in a part-time position, and of course I said yes. They asked if I could come in this afternoon, and since I had absolutely nothing on my planner, I did. I got all dressed in my interview suit and printed out resumes on the pretty paper and the works.

The interview was great - I met with the three people I'd be working closely with and it was just a really good conversation. Plus they instantly agreed to the salary I wanted and the number of hours. The interview lasted for an hour, and they said they would contact me next week. About seven minutes after I leave, as I'm driving home, my cell phone rings and they offered me the job!

I said yes, and I start on Wednesday. I think I'm very overqualified, but since I really do want to spend most of my energy on my thesis, it's actually perfect for me. At least I know I won't be taking my work home with me, physically or mentally. I think this is going to be good for me.

Catherine - if you see the water spin cycle class I gotta know about that - that sounds hard - but fun - can you imagine the resistance - wow.

We're off to my favorite niece's birthday party tonight - can't believe we are invited to the "kids" party at the bar. She was funny - she will be 29 - told me no other adults - wonder what she thinks she is. It will be fun and I am honored that she thinks of me as one of her friends not the old aunt. The trick will be the liquid calories and the loss of consistency in my eating plan. I guarantee there won't be cake though! Always gotta look at the glass half full.

See ya later.

Hugs,
Carol

Carol-I was trying to visualize how you stay on a bike underwater. I'm so buoyant, that my butt would spend the whole time flying off the seat. It would look like I was doing a hand stand on the handlebars.
