She, my niece is a daddy's girl sooo this outta be fun! Wish me luck!!
  • Lisa -- Wow, what a great job story!
  • Good Morning Peeps - hope everyone is ready for a great weekend.

The party last night was winding down by the time we were able to get there BUT I didn't realize it was at a Mexican cantina - and I had a first - not a single chip. Didn't even want one - I did have to make sure I didn't have a fever. Tonight I will face the same challenge but as Heather has said before - it's the first one that's the problem. Same strategy tonight.

I'm thinking maybe the plateau has broken - feeling it a bit - as a daily weigher I don't put much faith into anything other than the official weigh in but just for accountability's sake - soooooo - this is a fantastic motivation to keep me in high gear and OP.

Today is that last session of the 90 minute yoga class schedule - there have been only 3 in the class at the most - the hospital has committed to another 5 week session to see if enrollment will increase - I've signed up - I am hoping they continue this as it's a great way to start my weekend. I think the benefits to my mind and body are amazing. There are many things I can't do well - or at all - but I feel great afterwards. Last week there were only 2 of us and she really worked us - today I definetely need a good stretch - hoping she will head that direction.

OK - need to get ready for yoga.

Move your bodies, drink your water and SMILE.

    Hugs,
    Carol
  • Lisa~ Congrats on the new job!!!

Cyn~ how did it go with the niece & nephew?

Carol~ Congrats on staying off the chips at the party I know that would be my downfall too!

Well yesterday ended up being a good day overall! I had a personal milestone........and then a setback which turned into a learning experience.

personal milestone......I was feeding one of our students Lay's potato chips which he loves and I would usually snack along with him.....well I didn't even lick my fingers afterward!!! I washed them LOL that is a giant step for me not even wanting one....usually it would be "one for you....two for me...." LOL

I did good all day on eating, although today I had this craving for chocolate.......I did eat 3 SF chocolate chip cookies hoping that would take that craving......when I got home I made a fantastic shrimp & vegie stirfry w/brown rice for dinner and was full...........but the kids had friends over and they made "Puppy Chow" I knew I would want to eat till I popped because of the chocolate.........so I calculated the calories for a 1 cup serving roughly 200 I said ok I will eat that and maybe then my craving for chocolate will go away........I actually didn't eat all of the 1 cup(which is good for me) but I felt so SICK to my stomach after eating what I did eat........I think because I have had practically no fat going into my body all week, my body said YUCK what's that LOL I drank water & it didn't settle my stomach.......then later I wanted some Sweet Tea(southern Sweet Tea is what we make in this house TONS of sugar) I haven't had any this whole week...dd made some for her friends & I said ok I want a glass...I actually took one sip and couldn't drink the rest!!!!!!! it was too sweet!

so my binge of extra calories on the Puppy Chow & Sweet Tea actually was a great learning experience!!!

We will see how I do on the scale come Monday!
  • Good Morning!

Just a quickie(see last paragraph) to say I am still alive and so is my son! We have made peace after a tumultuous(sp?) week. He wants me to stop being "so overprotective" (yeah right!) and treat him more like an adult. Ahhhhhh...teenagers. 18 years old and they know everything!!

I have Gazelled 20 mins each, 4 days this week and am feeling great. It is a little difficult with Jack bringing me his mousies and rubber balls to play with him while I am trying not to kick him in the head!! He has definately recovered fully from his "snipping"!

I must run because Sammi is making me crazy because there are tickets going on sale for her beloved Jonas Brothers in a few mins and I just "have to" get them. She is slightly obsessed! As I said...teenagers!!!

    Have a Great Day!
  • Carol -- Great job! you didn't say "No" to the chips but "Yes" to you!

DMPLS -- Learning is such an important part of this process!!
I was a little concerned when you said you haven't eaten much fat this week. Greasy fat is good to cut out, but our bodies really really do need fat to survive! In fact, getting 15-25% of our calories from fat is healthy! Fat helps us absorb all the wonderful nutrients we're eating and keeps hair and skin healthy. But some fats are not great for us (greasy fats spring to mind) and others ARE good -- olive and olive oil, nuts and nut butters, avocado, salmon, etc...

Donna -- WTG on the gazelling!!
  • Heather - you are so right - it was YES to me! Thanks for pointing that out! Now my goal today is to eat more - did I just say that? Gotta get some high performance fuel into this engine.
  • Morning all!

Just wanted to hop on and check in. Other than "Fat Tuesday", its been a great OP week. Hubby started working different hours, so it is up to ME now to cook dinner (I was soooo spoiled!). Well, I have done really well in my choices, and last night when I made him turkey kielbasa with baked beans and green beans, I took my serving of turkey kielbasa and decided to make mine into a wonderful soup with all sorts of veggies (cabbage, spinach, carrots, onions, green beans) in it and plopped the cooked kielbasa in it. It was fabulous.

I am eating mini meals throughout the day and that has really been working for me. I have company coming shortly and I just finished a whole wheat quesadilla made with simply salsa and a little bit of LF cheese. YUM!

We are taking my mom out to dinner tonight for her Bday. I have already told hubby what I want and that he is to order it for me...so no changing of my mind! I can eat out and make good choices....just easier for me to decide what I am getting beforehand.

Oh well...must dash. Enjoy the rest of your day!
  • Annie, hope you're feeling better today.

Catherine, It sounds like so much fun to do all the different exercises in the water.

Lisa, great news on the job!! What will you be doing?

Carol, do they really have water spin cycle classes? If not, you should create one and I bet you would have tons of people trying to get into that one! You'll do fine tonight. Look at it as a challenge and who's going to win? You or the food?? YOU of course!!!!
Have fun at the yoga class and I hope they keep having it. At least you know you have another 5 week session.

Cyn, good luck with the kids!!

DMPLS, great NSV!!!! What is puppy chow???

Donna, so glad you and your son are getting alone now. Great job on the gazelle. Keep it up, you're doing wonderful!!!

Peggy, have fun at dinner tonight. I'm sure you will do just fine.

Well, I'm off to the store to get some stuff for dinner.

    Debbie
  • Heather when I say no fat......let me explain LOL this would be some of my menu items for just dinners prior to this switch in eating healthy

spaghetti with italian sausage (whole links probably 2 each) and ground beef

fried chicken from fast food places

    spanish fried rice

tons of greasy sauces on meats and cheese on anything that resembled a veggie

No whole Wheat anything inside this house....

so by me elimating fat I mean bad fats.....

I use EVOO and light butter in moderation on things rather then a stick of butter for a can of corn simmering etc....

I think the combo of chocolate chips, peanut butter, & butter just hit my stomach wrong and was a wakeup to my digestion is all I meant, because I had no candy or greasy foods this week and I think my system was like woooh whats that??? LOL
  • Debbie you must of posted your comment just as I posted mine!

Puppy chow is a snack I use to make for my kids since when they were little we were always on WIC LOL

    Any kind of Chex cereal
chocolate chips melted w/peanut butter & butter
toss till mixed.......then stick it in a ziploc bag and toss thoroughly with powdered sugar
  • Ugh, I've got what Brian had but It's not as bad as his was, so far. My throat hurts and I'm coughing and sneezing and generally miserable but I am down to 328~
  • Just for future reference....if you're stuck at the bar again...your best bet if you want to have a tasty adult beverage...some clear alcohol and diet soda...my personal fave is vanilla vodka and diet coke...but I recently discovered orange vodka and diet sunkist at a party. clocks in at about 90 calories per drink...yeah it's sort of a waste...but it's better than many other things with lots of mixers and extra stuff in it. Of course NOT drinking is an option...but we deserve fun too!!!!
  • Carol-that’s great rejecting the chips. You know to real Mexicans, that’s just a way of getting rid of day old tortillas. In the beginning, they really laughed at us. When they go stale, fry them up to feed to the gringos. There’s a commercial here about a family of Mexicans puzzling over how to make their taco shells stand up. It’s to sell the new flat bottom ones. The commercial makes it sound like they have worried about it for centuries. Real tacos in Mexico are made with steamed/soft corn tortillas. It reminds me of the way Irish coffee was invented. During WWII, US airmen waiting in the Shannon airport would ask for coffee with cream. The waitresses we used to people asking for milk with their tea, so didn’t know what the crazy Yanks meant. They thought they meant Irish cream whiskey, and the airmen didn’t complain when their coffees came with that kind of cream.

DMPLS-When I’m craving chocolate, I have some, but I have just that. Chocolate usually comes along with nasty friends such as transfat in cookies or wafers. I go to the mall to the fancy chocolate place, and have a really good quality truffle; just one is all it takes. One of the 7 habits of highly successful weight loss maintainers is that they do not deny themselves anything. That leads to binges.

Donna-I’m convinced that teenage difficulties are nature’s way of preparing us for empty nests. By the time mine were old enough to leave, I was really ready for them to be gone. I must say though, watching my 17 year old walk away with his group headed to boot camp just 5 months after the war in Iraq started was really hard. I was pretty sure if I had grabbed his ankles and made him drag me down the concourse at the airport, security would have tasered me.

Peggy-I don’t think I can get turkey kielbasa here. There are so many Poles and Ukrainians here, that sausages are a serious business. I could probably get buffalo or elk though. Maybe even bear or reindeer, but that would make me become a vegetarian again real quick. Our biggest question this week was if leftover alligator was meat or seafood. If it’s meat, he couldn’t have it on Friday because it is lent. We actually called the seminary to ask one of the professors. If it had been farm raised, then no, but since it was wild (and therefore only ate fish) then it is seafood. I’m not sure if that’s correct or not, because he promptly invited himself over for dinner. That’s one way to get rid of leftovers. Priests are always on the hunt for free food.

Debbie-I am going to have fun. Now that I have been there once, and broken the ice so to speak, I can also stream line what I need to take with me next time. I took the stuff with me that I used in Florida, but every facility is different. I also drove to the pool in St. Pete, and here I take the bus, so that makes a difference. I also didn’t have to walk through a foot of snow in Florida. You know you really want to swim when you do that.

I’m supposed to be making sandwiches for a church thing tonight. It’s the Rite of Election at the Basilica. That’s where the people who are being baptized this year at Easter get to meet the Archbishop and sign their name in the book of the elect. It’s a dog and pony show for me, but for my students, it’s a big deal. I’m trying to avoid the Archbishop right now, so I hope they don’t sit us alphabetically like last year. St. Al’s was practically in front. I’m avoiding him like a brother in law I owe money to. He wants me to apply for a job, and these penguin types have powers to guilt you into things. I’ll hide behind himself if necessary. I could hide a platoon back there.
  • Debbie - the water spin class - I don't know - Catherine mentioned they even have it at one of the rec centers since they have to do so much inside. I'm not so sure I'm ready for that one.

Catherine - that's so true about chips - when we were in Mexico in December that's exactly what the before dinner chips were according to the hosts - yesterdays tortillas. You mentioned the turkey sausage - I buy the Oscar Mayer/Louis Rich brand - it's quite good - and goes well with a nice big pot of steamed cabbage with red peppers. OK Catherine - you have no idea how excited I am to talk to my trainer in the morning about kickboxing in the water - I'm actually going to try to get him to start one - he teaches a land based kick box class so he may be up for it. I'm thinking since it was my suggestion (via Catherine) that it is on the house - sound fair?

I took a 3 hour nap this afternoon - very unusual for me - hope my body isn't trying to come down with something - I haven't slept much this week so maybe it was just catch up time - the magic fairy didn't do my chores though while I slept - will work on it (yeah right) when we get home tonight.

Better start to put on my face - make up and weekends don't normally occur in the same sentence for me. I also better eat something since we're doing the whole day old chip Mexican thing tonight. The mantra is say YES to me.

Battle - if you are lurking hope your trip was good - did you meet with the prospective employer?

    Hugs to all,
    Carol
