Jilly BIG CONGRATS!!!!!! & whether you lose 10 or 100lbs you'll be a beautiful bride!xxxxxx
Just a quickie to let you all know Ammi, is still up & down, though it's hardly suprising considering how everything happened. I don't know when she'll be up to posting, but she's doing the best she can.
Zelma, I'm sorry about how you are feeling BUT you have the support of a good Dr, a specialist & your hubby + US!!!! I'm sure your kids understand you've been 'under the weather' & will welcome you with open arms when you get back, BIG HUGSxxxxxxxx
I've been forcing myself to exercise, even de-cobwebbed, removed clothes & dusted my exercise bike!! LOL & did 10 mins on it + 60 mins fast walking! No time to 'chat' anymore, BUT VALERIE..... WHERE ARE YOU???? We miss you!!!!!

Jill -- I had the tiniest wedding. We got married in New Orleans (5 years ago Friday!). The only people present were our parents, sibs (each of us has 1) and the sibs SOs. So basically, there were 10 people including us. I really didn't want a big wedding!!

well, i just did 23 minutes on the treadmill...i know, i know, you're thinking 23 is such an odd number... well let me tell you what happened...

first off, i set it to 2 mph...wasn't prepared for how fast that was so i quickly set it down to 1.5 and about every 30 seconds eased it up another 1/10 of a mile til i was at about 2.3 mph...so im walkin' along and im thinking, huh, something smells funny, but i don't pay attention really...so im around 21-22 minutes and the treadmill slows down for like 5 seconds then goes back to where it was...at the time i thought i imagined it...but then at 22:58 the treadmill just stops all by itself, i got scared and jumped off it and then like 2 seconds later it starts going fast again...so i gave up...i dunno if something is wrong with it, or it needs warmed up from being outside all winter without being used, but i guess at least i got 23 minutes in, so thats a plus.

Cyn-I count calories. I use small memo books that I divide the page 2/3 and 1/3. the big side I write down everything I eat, calories and fat, and the other side I write down exercise, activities, emotions or problems so that later I can look for triggers if I have a bad food day. I bought a $10 kitchen scale, and a bunch of dollar store measuring cups and spoons. I also spent $5 on a food counts book. Mine is by Dr. Art Ulene. I keep scratch paper and pen next to the stove to write stuff down as they go in the pot. I have learned to read every label, and after a surprisingly short period of time it has gotten very routine. I eat a lot of the same things every week, so most stuff I have memorized now, and write it down practically without effort. It is the only thing that has ever worked for me.

Annie-I can do more situps than himself because I am a pear and he’s an apple. I have less tummy to get in the way. One thing to keep in mind about being overweight, that they try not to talk about, is that we do have some benefits over skinny people. For instance, overweight people rarely get osteoporosis because for us, just walking is a weight bearing exercise. There are also certain cancers we don’t get, but get hit with others instead. The difference between a 500 lb. woman who walks and moves around and a 500 lb. woman who never leaves her bed is big. Everytime you get out of a chair and walk across the room you are doing the equivalent of a bench press and a squat thrust. You and I have the muscle, it is just covered by a huge layer of other stuff. Since moving to Canada and having to walk everywhere, I have noticed that my thigh is starting to shape up. Those muscles were atrophied for a long time while in the wheelchair. My thighs are still huge, but they are shaped differently, more like what the muscle underneath looks like, but like covered with several layers of bubble wrap. It reminds me of the comic book version of the thing from fantastic 4. You can see what his muscles look like, they are just covered with a layer of rock.

LeeAnn-My college weight lifting teacher was one of the track team coaches. He once told me that for fitness, you shouldn’t increase the weight on the bar until you can lift it 100 times. He said that changes an exercise that is anaerobic into one that is aerobic. When it comes to exercise, the key is that it has to be something you enjoy, something that is convenient, and something you can afford. That’s because the important thing is to do something you can stick with. Any movement is good. If you have the time, I’d say go longer, if you are pressed for time go shorter. In the end you’ll be able to do both, go fast and long. Just do something even if you just sit in a chair watching tv and lifting soup cans in your hands a million times. Wow, I just read that you killed your treadmill. The next time your doctor asks you if you are exercising, you can say that you wore your treadmill out.

Zelma-grief has always been a huge issue for me. I suck at it frankly. I never take the time, I never work through my feelings, and I just try to pretend that nothing happened or it didn’t bother me. I gained 100lbs in the 6 months after my father died and almost flunked out of school. As for the weight loss, I so know what you are talking about. I may not be small yet, but people who hadn’t seen me in a while, and had never seen me standing up to know I was tall, didn’t know who I was. I actually had a woman stare at me with her mouth open unable to speak for a good 5 minutes. I thought she’d had a stroke. I don’t see myself that way yet, and wonder if I ever will. I saw a show on gastric bypass, that included some who had regained the weight, and they all talked about how food had been their main comfort in times of distress, and after the surgery that was taken away from them. There were a lot of counseling issues to deal with. You might try finding one of the counselors who deal with the bariatric patients. At least they would be familiar with the issues we face.

Jill-My college roommate had a ruby engagement ring. For the same price as a small diamond, she got a 1 carat ruby on a carved kind of ring. It was really neat. When my husband proposed the second thing I said to him was to not buy me a diamond. The first was that I was a proper Southern woman, and if he didn’t get on his knee and do it proper like, I’d make him call my brother to ask formally for my hand. I’ve never seen such a big guy move so quick in my life. My brother is a red neck hunter type who’s a union president, so he scares my husband a bit. I’m very physical with my hands, and knew that working with tools, sewing, and putting gloves on and off all day, a diamond would drive me nuts. I just asked for a silver claddagh ring that I now wear on my right hand. Of course, I’m in my middle 40’s and don’t have girlfriends that I need to wave a ring in front of. If I was, I’d want something big enough to choke a frog. I also didn’t want anything large. When we had the church ceremony, it was just us and the witnesses. The only one in a dress was his dad (he was in the Gordon Highlanders, and still wears his kilt almost everyday). For the original ceremony, we had talked about putting himself in a proper kilt to go with my Celtic princess dress, but he would have looked like Santa Claus in drag. Nobody needed to see that. Since I made my dress, the whole thing cost less than $1000. We never regretted saving the money for a down payment.

Wyllenn-I went on a diet in the 80’s, and lost 150 lbs. People obviously commented on it. I found it easier to let people think I was losing weight because I was sick rather than dieting. Being on a diet meant that I thought something was wrong with me and needed changing. Being a perfectionist didn’t allow me that latitude. This was during a time when anyone losing weight was looked on suspiciously that they might have AIDS. I just couldn’t accept congratulations. That inability led to me going off and regaining that and a bunch more.

Emily-those are called epiphanies, and they are great. Our lives are so busy and so noisy, that it is very hard to hear him talking sometimes. Revel in it.

Michelle-I’ll being praying for the kitty.

Sharon-I have some cobwebs that need attending to if you have all this energy.

Ammi-I’m still praying for you. Take the time you need.

I’m off to do my situps before it gets too late in the day.

Are you telling me neither of you are comic book geeks? I am, and proud of it!! the 300 doesn't come out in Australia for a while still, you HAVE to tell me how it is!!!! I have watched every version of the trailer and it looks nothing like Frank Miller's style... although it sure has alot of RAD special effects. Anyway, enough geek babble Tell me how it was!

I didn't want a diamond ring either, so my husband, who works with wood as a hobby, turned me a ring out of wood. It's too clunky to wear, but I love it!

I'm really not. I don't have anything against them; it's just not something I grew up with, and now I don't read for fun at ALL since my full-time job is about 20 hours a week of reading and 20 hours a week of writing/editing/formatting. Feels too much like work to me now, even if it is something interesting.

My Jeff is a bit of a video game geek as well. And a computer geek. Yup, he's geek all around I like to try new things with him, though--I've been bugging him to try to find more 2-player video games so we can play together (although if it's a good game, like Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts, I don't mind watching while he plays--it's kind of like a Choose Your Own Adventure story ).

Jill - WOW thats alot of reading! What do you do for a living?
Your Jeff doesn't sound like a geek. He sounds cool! Geek is the new cool you know .. The choose your own adventure is usually called RPG (role-playing-game). I love those too, but I love the shoot'em up games more to let off some steam My fave games to Xbox with hubby are probably Halo and 007. You should try them!!! hehhehe. Actually i suppose I should be telling you to get a Wii cause its good for getting you moving, but I think your heart rate increases on any video console! I also want to say- for our wedding we kept it to 50ppl and i can't tell you how happy I was with that number. We booked out an italian restaurant on the harbour and got officially hitched in a small chapel. It was big enough to include our dearest friends and family, and small enough so that you could talk to everyone and not feel like a spectator. I'm sure whatever you choose to do it will be fab, just make sure you don't lose sight of the actual commitment when getting in a tizzy about fabrics and flowers!!

wylenn- HOW COOL is that!!!! Wood is the most honest material around, i love that idea its very romantic!!! You could get it tied with leather and made into a necklace!

hippie- I hope you don't mind me calling you that its a tearm of endearment in my circles. I wanted to comment on your description of being like the Thing with a layer of rock. It is SPOT ON!! I couldn't agree more- and rock is damn hard to move. lol. I kinda miss how spaced out things were back in Canada- and that's a good thing for you walking everywhere! Keep it up!

emily- good luck with your new ward!

Sorry y'all as you know its tough to keep up with all the posts!! Wishing everyone will power dust and send some my way if you can too

Maybe we should send Jeff and Steve to hang out?!? They seem very much alike He's into all the same things but I can't say that I mind either. I like video games (Just not to the same extent). Have you tried Champions of Norath... the second one I think. Steve and I play that together. Also, we played all the Balders Gate ones. They are all for PS2.

Chimmy~ 300 was good. I think the trailer doesnt really do it justice. I was bored at first but it turned out pretty good. I'm not into the whole comic thing. Just not interested I guess, like Jill. Hubby has boxes!! Mostly Spawn See at least I know THAT much
