Default Cravings!?! What are yours and how do you beat them

Hey guys. New to 3FC but really needing some encouragement. And I would thought about starting a thread about cravings. Right now I am at work and totally craving bread. What are your cravings and what do you do to overcome them

I crave candy, all kinds of candy! I love candy! So I'll drink LOTS of water, or have a little bit of coffee, or some fruit to hold me over.

Hi SheGoes! Welcome to 3FC. I crave salty carby foods.... not chocolate or sweets. How I handle them depends on how bad i'm wanting them. If I'm PMSing hardcore and I know that nothing but that pizza is going to satisfy me, then I have the pizza, but I limit my portions.
Chewing gum and having healthy snacks around helps too. My work go-tos are raw almonds (I buy these at Sam's Club for super cheap in bulk), sugar free applesauce cups (I love the granny smith ones, they taste just like an apple jollyrancher), and those 100 calorie bags of popcorn are great too.. they help killy the salt-loving tapeworm that i am convinced lives in my stomach!

Of course all of this said, you have to find what works for you, but there is loads of advice and information on this website. Sometimes when i'm craving I come on and read the threads for motivation! That is an awesome way to distract myself.. GOOD LUCK!! You can do it

ooh, and pickles are a good salty fix too.... low in cals and carbs... but you have to slam the water if you eat those, to avoid the bloat... sorry just an afterthought!

Potato chips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially sour cream and onion. Doritos too.

However, there has been a half-eaten bag of potato chips at the house that I haven't touched. My secret? Whole grain bagel chips and hummus. Satisfies the salt craving and is healthy.

SheGos - I know there is a "low sodium" salt that old people with heart problems can use (my grandma used to have it). But I have no idea if it's any good or where you would get it.

Ditto jillianfan!! I love hummous.... i make it homemade and it is an awesome creamy salty fix!! It's good on carrots and celery too, and i use it on my sandwiches in place of mayo!

Snacking beats my cravings! I find the best way to avoid them is to plan to eat small amounts in intervals thoughout the day....a handful of almonds, a piece of fruit, raw veggies, string cheese, it might be a blood sugar thing but when I eat a little every couple of hours instead of big meals, I don't really experience cravings. Also try to keep to things low on the glycemic index which seems to help me. I usually don't eat any grains, bread, pasta until dinner and then in moderate amounts; to me eating bread during the day makes me feel lethargic, bloated and unmotivated, and leads to disordered eating.

I crave soda! I've never cared much for it before, but since I started eating healthier I crave it all the time. So I drink lemonade or chilled green tea instead

SHegos - seasald is the best salt to get. It tastes just like regular salt but is much healthier for you! Also, if you get sea salt, dont get the bleached white salt. Make sure to get the salt that comes in its most natural form. It almost looks "dirty"..

Dianne that was really helpful. I literally crave salty foods and almost despise sugary food. So if I can make it my salty snacks a little healthier makes it better.

^ This. Sour Cream & Onion - but only in the Green foil Herr's Bag. I love all Doritos Pizza ones are my favorite. x_x

I have low carb pretzels and low carb snack bites (crunchy) bc as the trend is going I limit my carb intake. ^_^

It gets easier the longer you go with out something, but for me a slip up is very hard to recover from so I try not to indulge even a little.

i crave sugar like CRAZY - mostly in the form of baked goods (cookies, cupcakes, etc). i've been drinking vanilla hazelnut hot tea whenever i've wanted something sweet, and it really works to curb the craving!

Mini marshmallows! I loooove them. I usually have a handful every so often. I don't think they are that bad for you, are they?

I have always had a MAJOR sweet tooth! According to South Beach, to get rid of cravings, go without the item for 2 weeks. It works for me for sweets. I don't really crave carbs, but it works for that also.
