Stacy and Christine-

I added you both to my IM buddy list!

I am pretty curious as to what SugarBusters is too! So if someone could give us a quick overview it would be appreciated.

When I first started the LA Weight Loss program in August I lost 5 the first week and 4 the second week. After that it leveled out at 1.4-1.6 pounds per week. On occassion I will get something higher or lower, but usually about the same.

What is the LA weight loss program?

I'm doing weight watchers right now but with the holidays and christmas I've been having problems staying focused with it.

From August until now I lost 14lb it was going real good but I'm really terrible to sticking to the same thing. It's like every once in a while I need a change or I get bored with things.

LA is a program with lots of fresh veggies, fruit, lean proteins, and a few carbs. You are allowed a certain number of portions of each food group every day. Everyone has different plans, depending on how much they way, what their level of activity is, how much they want to lose, etc.

The plan is a lot like that food pyramid that you learned about when you when a kid!!! If we had only listened.

the first two weeks of my diet I was doing well but last week was really bad for me. I ate too many sweets and also didn't exercise for three days because I had the flu. I started exercising yesterday. Last week I also didn't drink the amount of water I was supposed to. I feel so guilty

Cinthusha-

Sorry to hear that you were sick with the flu. I hope you are feeling better now though.

We all get off track sometimes, but it is important to put it behind you and get back on track as fast as possible. You can do it! Drink drink drink (water of course)!

This time of year is hard for everyone ust keep at it and you'll see results. There will be many weeks that you don't eat, exercise or drink water the way you want. Have to have no regrets and move on. Tomorrow is always a new day don't dwell on what you ate yesterday!!!!

Hi My name is Tammy. I am 28 years old and am taking this weight loss one day at a time. It is so nice knowing that others feel the same way. I have been following weight watchers for five weeks and have lost 12lbs. I have been eating low carbs for the last week and am finding that my cravings for sweets are subsiding. I weigh in on Fridays and would love to hear from anyone else doing the same. This way I can cheat on Saturday and have a week to make up for it!
Beginning weight 243
Current weight 231
Goal: To feel comfortable in a pair of jeans and tshirt and NO baggy sweater!!!

Hey y'all! Sorry, I've been crazy busy for the past week or so. I wrote a huge long post last week outlining the entire SugarBusters plan, and I lost the whole thing! I was frustrated, so it took me a while to get up the guts to do it again. So, here goes. Oh, before I start, there's a book on this that explains it A LOT better than I can!
The basic idea behind SugarBusters (SB) is that high levels of sugar in the body spike insulin levels and make it very difficult to lose weight. Insulin and its interaction with glucose and glucogen are the keys to understanding weight loss (or the lack thereof!). The book does an excellent job of explaining the science part of it.
The plan itself focuses on a lifestyle change - this is NOT a diet! It's a way of eating (the SB people call it a WOE). In addition to focusing on fresh veggies and fruits, SB limits the intake of sugar. You're not supposed to eat anything with more than 3 grams of sugars per serving. Check the labels. There are a few exceptions, of course. For example, you can have canned tomatoes as long as sugar is not listed in the ingredients. (Tomatoes have natural sugars in them, so it's automatically gonna list more than 3g on the label) Another example is yogurt. You can have "No Sugar Added" yogurt. You can also have "No Sugar Added" ice cream!! This makes it all worthwhile for me!!
The other significant change is that it limits your intake of starchy carbs. White flour, potatoes, potato chips, and bread are all basically PURE SUGAR. Kiss them goodbye. Instead, you eat whole wheat products. You have to check the ingredients list - the first ingredient has to be "100% Stone Ground Whole Wheat". Instead, you can have whole wheat bread, tortillas, flour, and even Triscuits.
Meats and cheeses, etc are perfectly legal. You can eat a huge steak for dinner! Just avoid the baked potato! You should, of course, kinda watch your fat content. Don't go overboard or anything. Lean chicken and fish are best.
Ok, I think that's it. If you have any questions, just ask! There's also an entire SB section on this site. They know a LOT more than I do. And if you're wondering how well it works...This past Monday was the two week mark for me, and I've lost 11 pounds! I'm not hungry, I have more energy, I feel healthier, and I eat ice cream every single night (triple chocolate chunk!). They reccomend exercising with it, but, um, I haven't started that part of it yet! Baby Steps!
Keep up the good work everybody!

Stacy

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you're supposed to limit your starchy carbs to 2-3 servings a day! That's pretty key! Sorry I forgot!

Thanks for the info Hamsm. I really does not sound too different from what I am doing!

Sorry it has been so long since I posted but it has been a really hectic week at work. I also have my first exam of the semester on Tuesday so I have lots of studying to do this weekend.

I am getting ready to go weigh in and see how I did this week. I will post later today.

Have a great weekend all!
