My aunt, who has her own level of purgatory (real close to ****) reserved for her when she goes, is just a fountain of "wisdom" when it comes to giving other people advice. My favorite "advice" she ever gave me was "Women shouldn't jog because it will ruin their chances to have children." Seriously. She actually thought jogging would shake up the uterus and mess it up somehow. She also told me once to drink a half a cup of vinegar and a teaspoon of honey before every meal to lose weight. Yeah that works because after one drinks said concoction they probably don't want to eat anything because of the gross out factor.
So what has been the stupidest dieting advice you've received?

"Cut out cream and sugar in your coffee." Great advice. But for more than 20 years, I've drunk my coffee black -- just because I like it that way, straight up -- and I still got to 247 pounds.
And the idea that there are certain "magical" diet foods probably informed these two gems:
"Eat a grapefruit before every meal." Ah, yes. Grapefruit was the green tea of the 1970s. All that happens is that you get tired of grapefruit & avoid eating it for several years after the diet ends.
"Eat cottage cheese for lunch every day." See above. To this day, I know my mother is "dieting" (her term for it is "cutting back") when she starts buying cottage cheese. Of course, it's full-fat cottage cheese, since she doesn't like the taste of lowfat or nonfat dairy products.
I had a friend tell me I shouldn't eat raw veggies because it would make you fart. Yeah, ok, so that double bacon cheeseburger is a friend to the colon right?
LOL! These are great... my grandmother, bless her heart, is obsessed with people's weight (she is pretty tiny herself), and is always dispelling advice to anyone who weighs over 90 lbs. My favorite one that she holds steadfast to is "don't eat anything white after 6pm!" No specific foods, just "anything white." She's 85, so I just nod and say "yes m'am" and do my thing.
I never took Dexatrim, but I did take Xenadrine (the full ephedra flavor), and OMG! It was no wonder you lost weight with those things, I couldn't sit still.
Recently a guy at work recommeded I go on Adipex if I was trying to lose weight. Ummmm what's wrong with good ole eating right and exercise?
I had a "friend" tell me before, oh your not fat, and to lose too much weight. Hmm jealously im sure. Considering I WAS 81 pounds from a healthy weight, and the total weight i wanted to lose was 100 pounds. It just makes me laugh!
