I notice a HUGE different in the soft drinks in the USA vs Canada - I have to avoid them completely because they make me really sick. My brother has discovered that some Costco's sell Mexican Coke - which is sweetened with sugar, good alternative if you have a hard time giving up Coke.

I personally avoid sugar as much as I can, and ALWAYS avoid artificial sweeteners. It involves reading a LOT of labels, and I don't know if I've just been lucky but I can always find an alternative at my local Safeway.

A little OT - do you find that the more healthy you eat the more stores you have to go to? I now go to a butcher, a fruit stand, a bakery and then go to Safeway.. shopping has become SO high maintenance!

I just try to limit sugar overall, and don't try to avoid 1 specific type. IMO, any kind of sweetener is bad for you if you overindulge.

I too was shocked at how many foods contain it. It makes you wonder if that's when the obesity epidemic really took off, when they started adding it to everything.

I rarely if ever have anything with HFCS in my house. I find that it makes me crave sugar and Lord knows how I am trying to avoid that!
