I was weighing daily, usually twice a day, but now, I'm trying to do it only once a week. I realized that when I wouldn't see a good change, I would just end up getting very frustrated. So, now I'm trying to focus on how I feel. I might change it over time, but right now, I'm taking a little scale diet.
I weigh first thing every morning. The fluctuations don't bother me much as long as the trend is downward. An upwards tick always motivates me to stay on plan. I just read some interesting threads in the Maintainence forum regarding this. Apparently weighing every day can really keep you on track.
I used to weigh-in several times a week, but if I saw a tiny loss or no loss, I would get so disappointed that I'd give up. Now I weigh-in once a week.
I'll keep doing it this way until I decide to stop losing, and start maintaining. When I'm maintaining, I'll weigh-in every day so I can see if I'm starting to get off track and nip it in the bud.
I was having a lot of success with weekly weigh ins. I was very lucky that I had fairly linear weight loss. It was rare for me to lose under 1lb/week. So every Thursday morning, my weigh in day, was like Christmas. I looked forward to seeing that number all week.
However, now that I'm getting closer to goal, my weight loss is finally starting to slow down. I realize that I'm going to have to refine my diet/exercise a little bit to get down to goal weight. Also, as has been mentioned, daily weighing is a good habit for maintenance. So from now on I'm going to start weighing daily as much as I can. That way I can see the effects of different exercise/foods. I'm going to have to force myself to accept some fluctuation and just focus on the downward trend.
