How often do you weigh yourself?

  • I know they say it's bad to do it daily because of the fluctuations, but I have to. It either keeps me going or reminds me what I should have done.

I was at 146 on Monday, my lowest yet and then today I'm at 147.5. I'm hoping it's because I have been eating so late in the day the past two days. Last night I had an almost midnight snack and went to bed very soon after. Same with the night before. Usually I have a protein shake at about 9-930 and am up til 12 or 1am but last night we didn't get dinner until 9.

    I guess we'll see!
  • Every day
I weigh myself every day unless I'm traveling and away from home. It helps keep me honest and reinforces my committment to weightloss. For me, it's best to weigh-in every morning, buck naked, after using the bathroom. I step on the scale until I get the same number three consecutive times. Then, that's the number I record for the day.

This way, I have no excuses, and I have a true number as my weight. I don't vex myself over the minor variations day to day, but look for a consistent pattern of loss or gain to figure out whether what I'm doing is actually working or if it's not effective. So far so good.
  • I do the same thing booklover does.
  • I have failed every weight loss attempt i've ever been on (i.e. given up before the goal - some attempts have been way better than others) because I' ve allowed myself to be ruled by the fricking scale. I couldn't resist weighing every morning and as a result if I had an unexplained gain I'd just totally lose it emotionally, even though fluctuations are natural.

So now I've made a compromise. I weigh myself nearly night before I go to bed to keep up with the curiosity factor and it doesn't matter what it says. I only weigh myself in the morning once a week (now on Mondays) and that is the only day that "counts" and the only one that affects my tickers.
  • I'm a daily weigher. I have to do it daily to keep myself in check.

Sure, there are fluctuations, but I understand that I'll have them. I just don't get all bent out of shape when they occur. For example, yesterday I was up 1.5 pounds over the previous day. Okay, I ranted a tad bit, but bit the bullet and kept on going and I'm down 1 pound today. All is good. The other half pound will be gone tomorrow (I know it will).
  • Almost every morning, like booklover explains. I give myself permission to skip a day if it's TOM or if I know my carbs were too high the day before - I don't deliberately look for a discouraging number! But fluctuations up don't really bother me. I claim a loss as soon as I get it, it's mine then and I don't believe the scale again until it says the same thing or lower. It is important not to let the scale rule anything. Improving body shape, fitness, muscle tone, all these things are so much more important than improving the scale number, since I'm the only one who sees that.

Yes, a really late meal can put a glitch into the scale schedule - probably temporary.
  • I weight once a week because I get too emotional if I don't see a change, however, if I go a whole week without having lost a thing, unless Tom is a visiting, I know I need to change something.

  • I'm really glad to know I'm not the only daily weigher. I need it to keep myself moving.

I hate those fluctuations but knowing I have to see myself on the scale daily keeps me honest and keeps me from getting upset. When I have days that it goes up it makes me that much more determined.
  • I weigh myself pretty regularly at least every 2nd day...
  • I weigh every day and log it in a spreadsheet (NERD ALERT!!!) But I only really pay attention to the trend and the weekly figures. I pick Thursdays since it coincides with the Easter Challenge in UK chicks and then compare that with last Thursday's weight. The inbetweenies are inconsequential but it's annoying when you go low between weigh-ins but come back up for the "official" one
  • i weigh myself about every 2nd/3rd day..
any more than that and i obsess too much.

I'd love to see how you set your spreadsheet up. I like seeing things laid out in that way and am terrible in excel.
  • I have a spreadsheet too, and I take my measurements and fill it in to graph it. Nerds unite!!

I weigh myself too often, it's something I struggle with.
  • Generally, I'm able to refrain from weighing myself daily and only do it once a week or sometimes once every two weeks. Now that I'm within 4 pounds (last week it was 3 pounds) of my goal weight, I'm finding it harder to resist the temptation of the scale.

When I do weigh myself, it has to be after a few low calorie days and in the morning when I'm naked before getting in the shower. Plus I have to step on and off the scale and reajust it back to zero a few times and take an average of the weight.

If I've lost a pound or two, then I do this silly little naked dance. If not, I chaulk it up to 'water weight' since I drink so much every day.

  • This morning I did my weekly weigh in and now I'm one pound away from my goal weight. It's going to be hard to resist weighing myself every morning to see the scale read 110!

Of course, now I'm looking in the mirror and thinking, "I could lose another 5 pounds"...
