I have a feeling you're large-framed. I know it's cliche to say you're "big-boned," and I don't mean it in an offensive way at all. I always thought I was large-framed and settled into weighing 165-170 until I looked at this chart and figured out I had a medium-sized frame. I set my weight goals based on this chart as well.
Well, according to the chart, I'm medium-framed...but my shoulders are so wide, I wear a size 10 shoe, and my hands are large with looooong fingers...
Could I STILL be medium framed with all that?????????
At 5'9, size 10 shoe, you sound pretty medium-framed to me. I'm an inch shorter than you but wear a size 13 shoe and men's XL gloves...now, I'M large-framed. My wrist width was almost double the medium measurement!

I (would like to) think I'd be completely out the size 18s if my hips weren't still spread from having a baby. Also, I am a very "large framed" person. At 140 pounds, my lowest weight at this height, I looked like a corpse. At 160, I looked extremely thin, but still healthy. I was most comfortable at 170-180 pounds.
My wrist measurement went down by about a 1/2 inch over about 55 pounds, which was enough to change my frame size from large right past medium to small.
I imagine the amount of fat on one's wrist varies with different body types, just like distribution to the abdomen or hips does. I never really though my wrists looked fat, although a watch did get too small. I assume the change in wrist measurement would be highest with higher amounts of weight lost, plus some people might lose even more there than me, 'cause we're all different.
I am 5'6" , weigh 176lbs and wear a size 14. Medium size top.
Funny though, I bought something a while ago in a size 10 - just because it fitted me! I knew it was wrongly sized, but gosh that felt good!
I think body shape is important as well. I have big arms and legs, and pretty evenly proportioned top and bottom.
At 5'9, size 10 shoe, you sound pretty medium-framed to me.
Well I'll be ~~~~~!!! According to my wrist measurement, I'm medium framed.
Looks like I might have to re-think my goal weight???

ETA - I've went through my ENTIRE life being told I'm large framed..."oh, you're just big-boned" or "just look at those feet...you're DEFINITELY large-framed".
Wow.
I know it may sound weird, but suddenly I don't feel so...doomed?
I don't want anyone to take that the wrong way...perhaps doomed isn't the best choice of words, but when you have it hammered into you all your life that you have NO HOPE of being anything other than "a big girl" and suddenly find out that "they" just MAY have been wrong, it feels "almost" liberating...KWIM???

You didn't mean by the posted chart did you? Because it's for elbow width, not wrist circumference. My wrist circ is a lot more than double the "medium" elbow width. I'm sure that's not what you meant. I've never seen a chart for wrist width (which may not mean much!). And I don't think anyone has a wrist circ double the "medium" range (in other words, around 12.5 inches!).
