Hi everyone! I'm a new poster, but longtime reader of 3FC :D My office just started a WW at work program, and this is my first week. I'm feeling great so far! Just for funsies, I'm going to try to lose 10 lbs before Christmas - that should keep me honest for the next few weeks at least!

Who's with me? Up for a little holiday challenge?

(Please forgive me if there's another one of these somewhere...I looked around, and couldn't find one!)

Hi Koloratur, I accept your challenge. I myself don't think it is too realistic to lose a significant amount of weight right now we are going into the Holiday Season but I am going to stick to my current weight loss plan of the Fat Smash diet. This way I can be held accountable and not gain a huge amount of weight. for the holidays. Between now and Christmas I give Myself a goal of 8 lbs.

Nope Koloratur - no one has started this one -- THANK YOU! I'll join as our November/Thanksgiving threads are coming closer to a close.

1. Keep to Basics.
2. Journal, journal, journal
3. Keep all Holiday treats to one serving or less if I choose to spend my points on them
4. Lose an additional 5 lbs and get to that 179 mark.

I would love to start 2007 at 179. That would be so exciting. The last time I saw that mark was July 1997.

I'm up for the challenge. My goal is to be in ONEderland by New Year's. That's 10 lbs. It's been a long time since I was less than 200 lbs and it would be great to start 2007 there. Even with the holiday season, I think we can do it! Good luck to everyone!

Count me in! I only started WW 2 weeks ago. My goal was to lose 10 pounds by Thanksgiving (I have lost 6.6 to date with weigh in tomorrow) and to lose a total of 20 pounds by Christmas. So if I can make my Thanksgiving goal, that would mean my challenge is 10 pounds by Christmas.

So.....yes, I am committed. Let's do this!

Thanks for starting the thread! I just made my Thanksgiving goal this morning and was looking around before I started a Christmas Challenge thread...you saved me the trouble!

Hhhmmmmm.....lemme see.....I'm thinking I'll try for 10 pounds. Don't know if that's realistic or not through the eating season, but I'll give it my all! 10 pounds gone for Christmas, that'll put me in Onederland for the new year!

I'm in...my first short term goal has been a xmas goal...I'm only 5lbs from it (however, if I'm not better the rest of this week, I'm going to be expecting a gain at WI on Wednesday.)

Need something extra to get me motivated again...thanks for starting the thread!

I'm in with a goal of 11 pounds (I weigh in tomorrow, and am expecting a decent loss). According to my chart that I use I should hit 217 on Christmas Eve. That would be awesome! The last time that I lost weight was in 1997 and I only made it to 218 before I found out I was pregnant with my oldest. So this will be the least I have weighed in a very long time, probably over 10 years. How exciting! Good luck to all!!!!!!

OK, just had to share. Was getting ready to go out to eat yesterday when DH gave me the big eye roll and said you're not really going to wear that, are you? While I felt the same way (the pants were really baggy), I just haven't been willing to spend $$ on clothes that I'm hoping I won't be in for long, especially when I've got all this holiday spending going on.

Today DD asked if we could go to some of the local resale shops....she loves to pick through them. I've never looked for anything for me there because there never seems to be any larger sizes. I said sure and we went, and to my surprise I found a couple things! I started this weight loss journey in Tommy Hilfiger 20W's, which are probably a 22W in any other brand, as they run pretty big. Today I bought a pair of Old Navy jeans and a pair of Lee Riveted jeans both in an 18.....no W behind them!! I also found a pair of Cherokee pants in a 16...again no W. I topped it all off with a Saint John's Bay hooded sweatshirt jacket for my walks in a LARGE!!!! WOO HOO!! And even better yet, I got it all for less than $20!

Now I'm pumped up, and we're getting ready to go out to dinner again. DH said we're going to Applebees so I looked them up in my Dining Out Companion, and I can get a super meal for 5 or 7 points.....this has been a good day!

Hope all of you are enjoying your weekend as well!

Put me down for 8 pounds by New Year's Eve. That may be unrealistic, but it will be something to work on!

Koloratur
11-20-2006, 12:40 PM
Congratulations, Kelly! It's much more fun buying clothes because you've shrunk, isn't it?

boaterswife
11-20-2006, 03:49 PM
Koloratur, you're absolutely correct! It's way more fun now to see what size I might have shrunk to, instead of trying something on and hoping I don't need to go up a size!

Crazynette, I feel like our brainwaves must be connected! Avatar's the same, ticker is the same, both want to be in Onederland for the new year, and we're almost the same weight! Nice to see you here!

Hi there!

I haven't posted in a few weeks - but I'm up for the challenge! Here are my goals:

1. get my 10lb award (172.4) and move closer to 15lbs (167.4)
2. go to the gym 3-4 days a week
3. Only allow myself to splurge one day a week and politely decline all offered treats.

Thanks Kelly! I agree the similarities are amazing! I must say you have good taste!!

I love these challenge threads. It's so nice to set small goals and know that others have similar ones, and be able to work toward them together. Good or bad it's nice to be accountable somewhere. Anyways I hope everyone has a great thanksgiving!

I'm going to do this Challenge and stick to it this time. Please put me down for 7 lbs by New Year's Eve.

2. Journal
3. Exercise 3 x's/week

OOH! OOH! Count me in!

I'm up for 10 pounds by New Year's. I just started 2 weeks ago, too, and have lost 3.4 pounds to date. I keep telling myself that slow and steady wins the race, but good grief...

Anyway, my goals are:
1. incorporate exercise;
2. at least 64 oz of water every day
3. NO NEGATIVE SELF-TALK (that is going to be my hardest one)

OK, I'm a little bummed out today! I had my WW weigh in and was expecting good results. Instead, I had a .4 gain. What gives?!! I stayed within my points, even on Thanksgiving day. I only used 3 flex points this week. I KNOW I didn't eat "right" as far as getting in my 8 healthy guidelines this week, but I did stay on target for points. My TOM also arrived last night and that could've played a part in it, but I still lost regardless of that inconvenience in each of my previous attacks! AARGHHHHH!!!!

CarebearsChris
11-26-2006, 12:03 AM
Kelly
I am sorry to hear you had a gain. Sounds to me like you should have had a loss. I am sure TOM has a lot to do with it. I do think that if you stay OP and not let this defeat you, you will have a great loss next week.

11-27-2006, 08:14 AM

11-27-2006, 09:20 AM
Kelly I hope you are feeling better today about the gain. I am sure when it happens to me (which is just a matter of time I am sure) I will feel awful. All we can do is keep on keeping on. We can't let the gain defeat us.

I would like to join the Challenge! Ive been on here before and decided to come back. I started doing WW on my own in August for the 2nd time and lost 34lbs, but about 3 weeks ago, I lost all motivation and have gained 4lbs back. I figure with the support on here, I cant go wrong. It's time for me to get back on track and reach my ultimate goal.

My goal is to reach 175. That's 10lbs by Christmas!!!!!!

I do know that I am back on track and ready to go for it!!! I got my exercise in last night and stayed OP. All steps in the right direction

I may not be here as much the next couple of days. A dear friend, Mikie, who bowled on DH's Wednesday night team passed away Monday. A little over a year ago he was found to have prostrate cancer. Prostrate was removed and he was told they got it all. He had monthly visits to the doctors. Late March or early April, he started complaining of a back ache. The cancer had spread and was all up and down his spine. He was pretty much told it was fatal but they tried experimental chemo. The chemo weakened his heart and about a month ago he had a heart attack. Doctors told him he could no longer undergo chemo and that it was just a matter of time. Visitation is this morning and funeral is tomorrow. Mikie did everything for his wife. He spoiled her and she will be the first to admit it. I saw them both 2 weeks ago at the gas station. Mikie was teaching Linda how to pump gas. Even though we all knew this day was coming Linda is taking it real hard. Another wife of a bowler on that team and I are going to see to it that Linda eats today (we have been told she hasn't eaten since Monday morning and she is diabetic). All we can do now is to be there for Linda and help her as much as we can.

Now my new goal is to make 10% by the New Year. I can do it. I know I can. It will be 6 lbs this month. It will take some dedication and willpower but I can do it!

Is it too late to join this thread. I would also like to loose 10 lbs by New Years. I've just started using my dust covered treadmill. I'm not really following a plan just kinda trying to watch what I eat. Sorta trying the Sugar Busters thing but not 100%. We'll see how that works out. :genie:

My biggest problem right now is that I quit :smoking: about 4 weeks ago and now all I want to do is eat. I think I have gained atleast 5 lbs but I'm afraid to get on the scales so I've really got to get serious about the weight loss and I think ya'll are just the motivation I need.

I'm going to weigh tonight when I get home and we will see what my starting point is.:o Anyway...Ya'll have a great day and I look forward to talking to you soon.

I've been waiting to post until I weighed in at my next meeting. I missed the one right after Thanksgiving because we were out of town.

Anyway.....I am down 7 lbs!!! Making a total of 17 lbs since joining WW the first week of November. I am thrilled!! So that makes only 3 more pounds until I make my Holiday Challenge.

I am still keeping my holiday challenge at 10 lbs by Christmas, but personally am hoping for more

I had a minor detour today but not enough to put me out of whack. I made the WW French Onion soup tonight from the WW site. It's very good. And only 4 pts per serving. I had 2 servings as it was my full meal tonight.

Didn't get as much done today as I hoped to get done but it's over and done. Tomorrow is a new day.

Have a good night everyone

Tonight all I have wanted to do is EAT. I thought I was pigging out and going to be in big trouble. I had written everything I ate down on a piece of paper. After watching some tv I journaled it all in my spreadsheet. I was shocked to see that I still had 2 points for the day, because I had made some real good choices while "pigging out". I am so happy. Now if only the scales will show that in the morning.

12-03-2006, 12:30 AM
Hello everyone,

I haven't posted for a week or so. I haven't lose any weight, but I haven't gained any either. I am still trying to get back into the routine of weight watchers. I am doing it at home - no meetings- because money is tight and I can't afford meetings right now. I haven't been trying as much as I could be. I have started a long term placement at a school (supply teacher) and I have to prepare the whole school, grade JK to grade 8, for a Christmas concert. The music teacher went off suddenly, don't know why. I was thrown into preparing this concert and the kids have just started the music. Pray for me.
I know the fast pace will force me to eat healthy because the school is in the county and I have to pack my own lunches (ww frozen meals and fruit). There are no fast food places for miles. I have to leave by 7:30 a.m., so that forces me to eat a quick bowl of high fiber cereal in the morning. My night time is where the challenge will be. I tend to pig out then to help me unwind.
Anyway, I am going to start this 10lb challenge. The school is huge and I am at the farthest end from the office, staff room and photo copy machine. I make a point to walk the length of the school several times a day to get in some steps on the pedometer.
Take care and I'll try to find the time to post regularly while I rehearse Christmas songs with the kiddies. If I hear one more carol after the 14th (concert date), I may have to have myself committed. Sorry Just kidding.

Chris, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It's a rough time of year for something like that. His wife is lucky to have you looking out for her. And good for you for making healthy pig out choices!
Regina, congrats! You're doing awesome!
Kelly, Congrats on your loss! 4 lbs is awesome! ONEderland here you come!
Charity, Congrats on your loss!
Rosegarden, I've made that soup before and I agree it's very good!
Tracy, Good luck with the concert. That sounds like quit a chore! Good luck!!

So at WI today I was down 3.4. So that was good! However tonight my family is driving me nuts. Putting me in the middle of all of their problems. So instead of being good. I've pigged out and used 13 of my flex points on crap. Oh well, tomorrow's another day. That's the beauty of WW. I totally pigged out and yet I haven't "broken" my diet. I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Well it is WI day and there is no change in the tickers. Nothing lost and nothing gained. I was so afraid I had gained. This is the second time I have maintained since starting back on WW in mid September. Luckily I have not had a gain.

This week's goals...
1. Get back on the treadmill
2. Stop eating so much junky foods (yes, I stayed within points but it wasn't eating as healthy as I could have)
3. Get the house cleaned (oops that isn't weight related is it?)

Justinsmom
12-04-2006, 11:52 AM
Well my starting weight for the Dec challange is 192, I'd like to be 182 by new years. We will see. I have used my treadmill a couple of times, gonna keep trying to do that. I know I haven't lost any weight but for some reason I don't "feel" as fat today. Even if I don't manage 10 lbs if I can just loose something I think I'll be ok with that. Ya'll have a great day and I'll post again soon.

CarebearsChris
12-04-2006, 03:10 PM
My goal is 10 pounds as well. I have to get my butt on the treadmill as well. I went to my first meeting in a couple of years this morning. I don't like their scales...all though I know I wasn't nude, it was first thing in the morning so I had eaten and drank water. Wish there was an early morning Monday group. Yesterday (my WI day at home) I was 260 but today at the meeting I was 266.8. Guess that isn't bad as compared to my wi in the nude on an empty stomach.

Hi all,
Chris, I agree with you! I don't like their scales either!! I can stand on my scale with clothes on right before I walk out the door, drive to the mtgs, and I've gained 2 pounds. There must me something in my car that makes the pounds pack on! Oh, well as long as both scales are going down, I guess it doesn't really matter what the numbers are.
Justin'smom, welcome!
Anna, Congrats on the loss! and good plan with the candy!

I've had a pretty good day! Went to a Christmas concert that's a tradition for my family. It was as awesome this year as it always is! Now I'm definitely in the Christmas spirit!! :tree: :ginger: :tree:

I have been told that the scales are WW are to be considered more reliable. Someone I can't go that when they are used as much as they are. Maybe they recalibrate them every day. I don't know. But you are right as long as they are going down I guess it doesn't matter.

So I had my weigh in this morning and even though I ate out 4 times this week and was PMSing big time, I lost 2.8 pounds!! Making my total 9.8 for my holiday challenge and 19.8 total since November 3, 2006. I am so happy!!

So I made a new holiday challenge of 15 pounds which would make 25 total. Hopefully I can do it. My original plan was 20 pounds by Christmas and I am there!! YES! It feels so good.

Thanks for all the support. You all are the best! Keep up the good work everyone

Great Job Regina and Charity!!!! I'm doing some Christmas decorating and cooking for my busy week ahead. Gotta pull out those recipes that I pulled last week and act on them - funny how life gets so busy and interferes huh?

Charity...way to go!

Regina....keep it up!

Weigh in today, and I'm down 1.8 also, and now in ONEDERLAND! I am unbelievably thrilled!

Now let's toss in a couple NSV's....Went to an adult Christmas party tonight (had to leave early so DH could go to work, but at least we got to go!). Anyway, we were doing the secret santa/rob your neighbor thing and I was number 8 out of 11 on the female side. Well, when they called #8 I yelled "it's me, it's me, I'm 8" and a guy friend said "I don't think so....you're way closer to a 10 than a 8!" I have to say I could've tossed him on the floor and kissed him! Let me add that his wife is a personal trainer, so you know she's built well, and he still noticed and made such an awesome comment! I think my DH was even a bit surprised!

2nd NSV this evening came during the grazing period...I went to the party fine, just a little hungry, but that quickly changed to starving. There were no healthy choices at all in the appetizers that were out, but I knew if I didn't eat something it would get worse. I fixed myself a VERY small plate of the best of the worst to take the edge off until dinner. When the dinner items were put out, the choices weren't much better, but I think I did OK! I chose extra lean beef in aujus...I didn't have the aujus or the roll to put it on, I only had the beef. She also had a tossed salad with dressings out that you could choose for yourself. I waited until a couple people had taken salad so that I could take some from the same spot in the dish and only get the veggies....they had taken the cheese and croutons that were on top. She did have two reduced fat salad dressings out along with some regular fat choices, so I had the lowest point value choice available. I ate slowly, giving my brain time to catch up with my stomach and filled up nicely! I walked straight past the desserts without a second glance! Yay me!

Way to go everyone. Sorry I have been MIA. Busy busy busy. It should slow down this week I hope. No more trips to the doc (been twice this week...sinus infection and tendonitis in the arm). No more Christmas parties till the 17th, then another one on the 22nd (I think those are the right dates). Today's party was no big deal. Lots and lots of food but it is the youth bowlers, and I am way to busy to eat. Not to mention it is 10:30 or so in the morning. I did eat some turkey that was left over about 1...talk about dried out turkey...YUCK.

Hope everyone is doing well.

I am now doing 2 WIs a week. I decided to continue my at home WIs while doing the meetings. This will show me my total loss and I will be on track with it should I stop doing meetings again. I lost 3 pounds today, making a grand total of 37 pounds forever gone. And I am 1/2 way to my New Year's Goal

Elanajel

Goal:
weigh 2 pounds less on Jan. 1, 2007

How to get there:
Hire a personal trainer
Weigh/measure food again (fell off this wagon--and it shows!)
Add an additional workout session so I'm at 5/week

Good luck to all!

Elana, you've definitely set up a workable plan...good for you!

Chris, hope you're finally feeling better! Winter cold weather and not feeling well all at the same time makes it rough...hang in there! And 37 pounds gone forever? That's AWESOME!!!

Just remembered to check in on this thread since I haven't since I joined the holiday challenge. My goal was 11 pounds by Christmas Eve and I have lost 8 of them! Only 3 to go, I should have no trouble hitting that goal!

Way to go, Mom. I have 5 more to go for mine...but I have till the first of the year.

Feeling much better. The shot of cortisone for my arm has done wonders. I bowled tonight pain free and had one of my better nights. Sinus infection seems to be clearing up...now that I have remembered to take my pills 3 times a day like I am suppose to.

Hi everyone! I *finally* saw a big change this week - down 2.4 lbs, and I was tied for "biggest loser" at our meeting (which was my secret goal this week.) I might not make it to 10 lbs by the New Year, but I'm losing weight, in DECEMBER, and that's what's important. Congrats to all who've lost this week!

Went to WI today and I lost 2.2 lbs!! Which really excited me because last week I gained 0.4. So what do you all think of the new point system? I figure I'll try it for at least three weeks, and then if it isn't working, I'll go back to what has been working. I don't know if I'll quite make it to my holiday goal, but at least I'll be close!

Congratulations to everyone that has lost!! Hope you're all having a great day!

I maintained this week. As crazy as life has gotten for me this week, I'll take it. It still leaves me 4 pounds from my holiday goal but eh, I'll get there. I have new incentive again today and our weekly meeting talked about finding time in your day for things you need to do. Very interesting and thought provoking. I love going to my meetings. They give me strength and thoughts that I CAN DO THIS!!!!!

I was not even close to OP yesterday, ugh! Back on track today though, and hoping that yesterday doesn't totally ruin my weigh in on Saturday!

Sorry I've been absent. Everyone is doing great!! :)

I had my weigh in today and was down 3.6, making a total weight loss for me of 23.2 pounds. I have a little less than 2 pounds to go to make my Holiday goal, but even more importantly, losing 2 more pounds would put me at 10%.
I am really hoping to make my 10% by Christmas. And to think I had thought to just wait until AFTER the holidays to get started. Now I'll be starting the new year off twenty some pounds lighter.

Another good note. My Dr. had told me once I get down to 230 to call and set up an appointment to slowly start taking me off high blood pressure meds. YES!!!!

Keep it up everyone!!!

Sounds like a great day, Regina. I have heard so many people (my best friend included) say they will wait till the holidays are over to start the plan. One of the teen boys over heard me telling another mom how much weight I lost so far. He asked me if I was nuts trying to diet during the holidays. I told him I wasn't dieting I was changing my lifestyle to become a healthier person. He said he wouldn't even think of it till the beginning of the year. And I told that come the beginning of the year one might say after valentines day (so they can eat the chocolates) and then it will be after so and sos birthday. If you are looking for an excuse you will always find one. He then said I guess you don't want to put off till tomorrow what you could do today. BINGO.

WOO HOO! At today's weigh in I lost 4 pounds, meeting my holiday goal on the nose! I'm totally excited!

Regina, that's awesome! Working your way off of BP meds is such an accomplishment, you should be extremely proud of yourself! I'm proud of you!!

Chris, I totally agree! If I had said that I was going to wait until after the holidays I wouldn't be down 51 pounds right now. In fact, I could have been up a couple more pounds! Never put off until tomorrow.....

Have a good weekend everyone!

YEAH!!! Kelly, look at you in the 100's!! I can't wait til I leave the 200's behind. What an accomplishment. Be proud of yourself.

Yes, there always is something you can wait for to start that diet plan. I did that for so many years. This is truly the first "diet" I have done where I haven't felt like I am doing a diet. It truly is a lifestyle.

Keep up the good work everyone!!

Meeting day!!! I am so happy. I lost 3.4 pounds thiis week so I am 1 from making my New Year's Goal. And that is a grand total of 39.4 pounds.

Wow, everyone is doing so well!!! I weighed in on Saturday and was down 1.4! Considering I slipped up one day during the week, I was happy with it!

Here are my stats for the challenge so far!

Beginning Weight: 203.8
Current Weight: 197.6
Goal Weight by New Year’s: 195
Pounds Lost: 6.2
Pounds to Lose: 2.6
Number of Weigh-in Before New Year’s: 2

I'm not sure if I will make 195 by New Year's. I will be out of town for nearly 2 weeks during the holidays, which will really make it hard. I am just hoping not to gain too much, I'd be happy to just maintain my current weight :)

Thanks, Regina! I made myself wait until I had a second weigh in in the 100's, I was sure it was wrong. When I hopped on the scale this week at my weigh in, I even asked my leader if her scale was correct! It seems so surreal!

Chris....3.4 pounds this week, that's awesome! You go, girl! Just think, you will be 40 pounds lighter starting the new year, that is so wonderful, congratulations!

Charity, keep going! You're doing fantastic...and you're in onerland now! WOO HOO!!!

Thanks, Kelly. That is the way I have to look at it. That I am 40 pounds lighter now than I was the beginning of September. If I were to focus on the big picture I know I would up and quit. Still have over 100 pounds to go.

12-21-2006, 12:56 AM

Thanks, Kelly. I know I have come a long way. I am really starting to see it. I would like it if someone else did too. But oh well. I have 3 pairs of jeans. 2 Riders and 1 chic. All of them size 26. Chic runs much smaller and I am in them. My riders I have to wear a belt with them....so I am thinking I dropped a size. Total my DH that I need a trip to the thrift stores. I refuse to spend a lot of money on clothes that in a couple of months I will be out off.

boaterswife
12-21-2006, 11:34 AM
Oh, Chris, I totally agree! If I get a new pair of jeans as a gift, fine, but I refuse to spend $30 or more on something that I won't be wearing very long. Our local good will store is huge, and I've been having pretty good luck finding about 2 pair at a time as I need them. That's enough to get me through! In addition, I have to confess that my mom bought me a new pair of jeans a couple weeks ago. I keep trying them on, guaging how the fit is changing, but can't bring myself to take the tags off and wear them! It seems like such a waste! They fit when we bought them, snugly, now they fit real well except that the waist is too big (my waist has always been way smaller than my hips), and soon they'll just be too big all over. I guess when that happens I'll return them without ever having worn them!

I made my New Years goal today. Last week I was 0.8 from making goal. Since my normal meeting is Monday, I went today. I have lost another 2.8 pounds. So the grand total is now 42.8 pounds forever gone. Next goal is another 20 pounds gone in The Biggest Loser New Year/New Me challegne.

Sorry, ive been missing.. It has just been so crazy this month with Christmas and a drunk driver hit my car. Congrats to everyone on losing!!!! I didnt hit my Christmas Goal, but im close. Im down to 178. I actually didnt believe it and weighed myself 3 times, to make sure that's what it really was. I havent been at this weight since 1999 after I had my first daughter. I was alot toner then, but that should be coming soon. I've started to add running into my walking routine to get some extra calories in there, and I figure once January hits the gym here will have a special like they do every year so I can start adding weight training to help tone up. Now that im closer to goal, im gonna change my goal to 155 instead of 160. Sorry for writing so much.
Congrats to everyone again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
