LesGet: Yeah for the fruits! Actually you are technically out of season for strawberries and ok for grapes. So you did well find some that taste good! Well grapes this time of year are always good. I can't buy them as it gets to be winter, the stores around here get them from Chile, and there is just something I can't stand about their taste. It's hard to explain - but overtime I have tried them I can't do them. So right now is the time, if I could, I would load up on grapes.

Mam: No, not on pinterest but I have enjoyed using spaghetti squash often. I use to grow it too but this year gave up on it because the last two years it too fizzled out early. How are you feeling today?

Ok: small victory for me today. I was getting dressed and I comfortably fastened my bra on the next set of hooks over from the outside ones. Usually it's tugging me when I do that, not today. The scale hasn't moved much at all yet, but hey if even a pound can make that type of difference then I am doing well!

I am on break from my family. They went to do an activity in the state next door and I stayed home to rest my foot - the purple is about gone finally! And to clean and work on some projects. So far I have been doing fairly well.

Do any of you have issues at the start of your cycle w/sugar cravings? ARGH! This is a normal phenom for me, however now that I can't stuff sugar willy nilly in my mouth, it's becoming a bit of an issue. So far I have been able to push back and not fall into the trap, but there have been a few moments where something big and sweet and not good for me has called my name. Any help or ideas to keep that at bay?

I want chocolate at the start of mine, Lemon. Last time I allowed myself a few squares for a couple nights in a row. Seemed to help. It was enough to make my brain feel better, and didn't add too many calories to my daily total. But that was only my first one since I started this diet. Ask me again next week, haha.

Les: BEWARE the chocolate. That and some peanut butter and I could have a grand old time eating what I am not suppose to. In fact today was a day I probably would have stuffed myself full as I have a sibling being a total witch, but that's its own story. Needless to say, I am a comfort food eater (as is my DH which is what has brought us both to our need for loss). But I am happy to report I have been able to ignore it today. However, this evening we are having a thin pizza, but I will have my two pieces and call that happy. I may make a salad in here somewhere as well. Try and try again.

Hello Violets!

AM:
I have two nice surprises in the last two days: one my bras I am able to hook one more row in comfortably. And a pair of shorts that I have worn all summer I put on today and I had to keep yanking them on up. Not measuring myself until Thursday which is my big weigh in day. But both lead me to think it's positive that some weight is either leaving or moving off my body. So I'd like to say they were goals, but they weren't just surprises.

DH and I worked out together tonight. That was kind of nice, as we don't get to do that often. He thought I was nuts going to the various machines after my cycle ride, which today I took a bit more leisurely but still did 13.1 miles. I added another form of weights for my arms, that was good. I am blessed w/washer woman arms/bat wings/ those nasty things between my elbow and armpit! I do so hope they at least tone up some in all of this. I know, there are worse things in life. When I was buying my wedding dress the gal helping me said flat out - get it out honey - every bride has a body hangup. I said my upper arms, she said - well do they work? Can you lift things? Carry things? Hug your man? I said yes, she said then you shouldn't complain, they do help you. She had a point I guess we all have hang ups about our bodies. Why I don't know, but we do.

Wishing everyone a nice end to their weekend. Hopefully the Violets shrink well this week!

Everyone has hang ups for sure. I'm sure I'll have some loose skin on my arms and stomach, but I just don't care anymore. I will still be stronger and healthier and will have a better quality of life, even with the loose skin. I'm doing what I can, of course. I'm hydrating and moisturizing and trying to strength train and lose the weight slowly, so I'm hoping for a good happy middle ground. We'll see.

I didn't meet my step goal for the first time in a while, but I almost got there and I went swimming, so I'm calling it good for today. Will try and walk longer tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great week!

Hi, Violets. I've been a little down on myself. Had to pay my dollar last Tuesday. The scale is refusing to budge. I didn't gain, but I didn't lose so I lost a dollar. I haven't been feeling great. I've been to a cardiologist and now an endocrinologist to try to figure out what's wrong with me. I'll have tests that are off which has my doctor sending me to specialists, then they do tests and everything is normal. Right now I've been cleared by the cardiologist and have stumped the endocrinologist. I have no idea which way to turn. I'm trying to eat low glycemic foods and make sure there is protein in each meal and snack but I'm flying blind. The doctors won't send me to a nutritionist till there is a diagnosis but I really could use one right now. I'm really depressed right now. Even my husband who I love dearly is telling me there is nothing wrong with me and I need to stop wasting time and money going to doctors. I'm ready to take his advice and wait till whatever it is becomes more obvious. I truly believe I am heading for diabetes but since my sugar readings are "normal" the endocrinologist doesn't agree so I'm feeling like I'm on my own.
Sorry for complaining, but I needed to get it out.

Carol better to vent here then to have a coke.

Sorry your DH isn't on board with you. It is hard when you aren't feeling well and they can't find anything. Do whatever makes you feel better.
((((HUGS)))).
As for paying the dollar you can get it back this week. I know you can...You did it before you can do it again.

Lemon congrats on the clothes getting looser. That is such a great feeling. I can't wait for that. Then you know what you are doing is working. It's great that your DH is doing this with you. It helps a lot to have that support. My DH also is on board with me.

Les I know what you mean about the loose skin. I have a hang up about that myself. You sound like you are doing the right things to help eliminate loose skin as much as possible.

When I crave chocolate I make sugar free chocolate pudding. It isn't the same but helps get that craving taken care of without much damage. Sometimes I will even put a drop of SF cool whip on top for a real treat.

Feeling much better today more energy. Today is 3 weeks since surgery.

Yesterday I had a big breakfast and felt guilty. Didn't munch but just felt it was too much. In late afternoon I decided to check my calories. Low and behold I still had over 600 calories I could eat.

That was a pleasant surprise. Today I will track my calories also.

Have a great day.

LG

Mam: Good on the calorie tracking, even better on the breakfast. It's one of those meals that can fool you in the amount of calories you take in. Keep up the good work. Yeah for it being 3 weeks of feeling better, it's a slow process but it will come together for you.

fire: having dealt w/an endo for almost 20 years - PUSH BACK. You should have every right to be sent to a nutritionist if you are struggling. Geez, dumb doctors. As my endo told me, there is nothing wrong w/being on this type of diet, as mine put it, it's one of the healthiest there is, you are full usually all the time and with exercise, weight will come off. Maybe not like other diets, but it's a gradual thing.

That said, I am not a doctor, but I usually ask these questions of others in the endo world: are you feeling crappy in general? have they tested your TSH/T3/T4/Thyroglobulin? This is just about 2 vials of blood to be tested. A lot of other symptoms that aren't showing can be actual symptoms of thyroid issues. Do you have family history of thyroid problems? If your TSH was tested what was your number? Is he using the newer range of numbers or the old? If yes to any of these, then this is an area to ask to be checked. Depression, weight, tiredness, hair loss can all be symptoms of hypo. I am not as well versed on hyper - but I believe the same type of symptoms. In regards to diabetes: did he check your ketones as well as your fasting blood sugar? I know my ketones were really high when I was first diagnosed w/GD.

I can try and help you w/a lower carb diet. I don't have diabetes, but did have gestational w/my last pregnancy. So I have an idea of what to shoot for in carbs as I am doing that type of diet once again. Is there a particular meal you struggle with hunger thereafter? Let me know if I can be of some help to you. You shouldn't have to feel like crap at all. That's not fun, and not fun when the hubs tells you your not benefitting from your doctors visits. If it were me, I'd call the nurse, I'd ask to be referred to the dietician for consult in regards to loosing weight because of struggles with what you are doing. My DH did this, I went with to the appt. In general terms they can talk to you about your diet, in specific terms if you are already working with something they can help give you ideas on what might work. I haven't heard of NOT being referred until there is a diagnoses. That's dumb.

What else I would do, keep a food diary for a weeks time if you do indeed get in w/nutrition. List everything you put in your mouth for one full week, trying to break it into meals and snacktimes. Don't bother w/calories - but do list portion sizes. I am not saying measure it all out, but if you had 2 chicken legs, list as such or if you had Fat-free yogurt vs full fat that type of clarification. Include everything even if it's a pat of butter or olive oil sprayed on, anything w/ caloric data. That gives them a good idea of what you are putting into your body on a daily basis. They may see something where your putting more in then you should. I found my visits beneficial and she was always available to email when I wasn't in appt. GOOD LUCK!

Les: Do you wear your pedometer all day or use your phone? I found that in walking for 45 minutes I got quite a few steps in just this manner. Perhaps that can be a mini goal for you? I haven't been able to walk as I stirred up a patch of bursitis the last time I tried w/gusto that set me back a few months. So the recumbent is where it's at for me. So far, so good.

Morning Violets
- anyone have kids going back to school? mine start this week!

AM: I was so happy w/.the shorts being loose, however probably not the most fitting look in the world to have a crotch hanging low. Today is a whirlwind of school orientation and pictures. I have to pack DDs school bag w/her supplies for the year yet. It's in a grocery bag, I bought early because of the buy multiple sales. So it will be good to get that done. We are arguing over her hairstyle for photos. She's under age 8, can't imagine 16!

DH and I did go workout last night, it went fast. An older gent who walks the tread was coming in as we were leaving. He's been offering his philosophy of weightloss to both of us as we usually go separately. Of course he's stick and bones, but he's offering some insight. I think he was a doctor in his past, but he hasn't said. Some of his convos are interesting. He's cheering us on to lose weight. Well, the more the merrier I guess!

I did have issue w/my carb load this morning for breakfast. Hopefully the rest of the day goes well. Geez, those darn sugars get me every so often. FIGHT BACK I WILL! Anyone else have issues like this? Mine I think is residual from how I felt yesterday after dealing w/my crappy sibling. Alas, I aim to leave that baggage at the station.

Happy day to you all!

FireWife- YOU know if something feels wrong with YOU. You are the only person who knows how you feel, so keep pushing for the docs to listen. I hope you feel better very soon!

Mam- Good for you with the tracking, and there is nothing wrong with a big breakfast sometimes. I'm not much of a breakfast person but I am trying to eat a little something each morning. I'm so glad you are finally starting to feel better after your surgery!!!

Lemon- I am using my phone to track my steps. When I first got the phone, my steps were very low, like under 3,000 most days, and some days much lower. With the lose it app, they set a basic goal of 7,750 I think, and I'm trying to get to at least 10,000 each day. It takes me around an hour of total walking time to hit 10,000. I try to walk at least 30 minutes each day, and 45 on good days. The rest of the steps I am getting in my normal daily activities. Yesterday I barely hit 7,750. I guess the mini goal for now is 10,000 steps per day, and hopefully I can increase it as I go.
So glad about your loose clothing, it is such a great motivator and mood elevator! I'm sure it can be tough tracking your carb loads. I am not on a low carb diet, so I don't worry about it much. I do try to eat less bread and stay away from chips and desserts for the most part. But since I am just starting I am trying not to be super restrictive with my diet and the foods I can eat. For now I am just focusing mainly on portion control and keeping under my daily calorie total. Like today I am having some Indian white rice with my chicken and veggies, even though it should be brown rice. I'll do brown next time, to change things up. As I lose more I may stall, and I might consider restricting the carbs more at that point. I hope it gets easier for you as you go along.

As for me, I'm down 1.6 pounds this morning, and got out for an early walk. Have a lot of errands this afternoon and I'll walk again when I get home this evening. Hope everyone has a great day and an awesome week!

firewife sorry to hear youre so down Hopefully the doctors figure something out but in the meantime try not to let it get the best of you!

mam glad to hear you have a little more pep! That's great news, hopefully each week itll get a little better!

Surprised my boyfriend with a trip to PA to a brewery hes wanted to go to for years and uh oh! lol good thing I weighed in Saturday morning it was an all out pig out Saturday night and sunday. Both of us actually felt sick so im kind of happy it happened because I was actually looking forward to eating healthy again today and now I know when we got to Boston next weekend I will not want to pig out and get sick like I did this weekend. weighed in -2lbs Saturday. Im hoping my body got shocked and will still lose a pound and not gain this week but we shall see!

Called Endo today to see if insurance approved testing she wants to do. She hasn't heard back from insurance yet. She doesn't want to send me to nutritionist because she wants to be able to diagnose before I change my eating habits. I told her too late, I'm eating low glycemic diet to stop the light headedness so I can work without being afraid of passing out. She's not real happy with me right now. But then, I'm not really happy with her either.
Lemon, I have no idea what she tested. I know I had to be at the lab before 9 am and they took 12 tubes. I was joking with the tech that she might need to wring the other arm to get enough blood. According to the endo, everything she tested came back normal. Right now I found a book that uses the glycemic index for weight loss. The author has a list of low, medium and high glycemic foods. I am using that book as a basis for my diet along with a calorie count of between 1800 and 2000 calories a day. Thyroid doesn't run in the family but diabetes does. I started talking to Mom about my symptoms and she told me she had the same ones when she was diagnosed prediabetic. She's followed a low glycemic diet since and has been stable in the prediabetic stage for over 20 years. I just have to get this doctor to listen. Maybe a bullhorn next time I visit.

Aww Firewife I really hope they figure it out soon and that you feel a million times better.

After not seeing the scale move much, and buying new and better scales, I am finally seeing some drops. The last two days have shown a loss of a little over a pound each, and I was very happy to see the scale at 218.6 this morning. Thinking I could be at least 5 pounds into Onederland by Xmas.

I hope everyone has a really great day!

Amber: good on the rebound to the diet. Though it's nice to splurge every so often on the food front. Enjoy your trip to Boston! Is this just a fun trip or in conjunction w/a wedding or family?

Fire: I'd find a different endo. Do you have online access to your medical records? If so, log in and see what your TSH values were. Anything under 4.0 is normal, but sometimes even begin 3-4 can be high for you. And if they aren't available online, ask for the results to be sent to you. The reason I say if you can find a different endo is you need to find one who is willing to listen to your concerns about your health, you can fire the one you currently have!

The low glycemic is good (somewhat like what I am doing w/the low carbs). If you'd like to see some more weight loss, then I think you are ok to move your caloric count down some. I think there are websites that you can enter where you are at and where you'd like to be to see what your calorie intake should be for weight loss. One of the things w/the GD diet that I am following is that you need to make sure you are doing a protein w/each snack or meal, this helps your body process as well. I tend to trend towards almonds and or a piece of string cheese. Breakfast I find an egg and string cheese along w/my toast or bread product keeps me filled until my morning snack. Then I do greek god's plain yogurt, cut in my fruit and have some almonds. My troubles for figuring carbs is always lunch. If I don't have leftovers from dinner the night before I struggle to fill up the carb load. I also find I need to spend time figuring out my weekly menu both on the carb front but also the grocery front as my closest good grocery is 45 minutes away.

Les: how did your steps turn out yesterday? did you get your 10000 in? I didn't get to the gym as it was DH meeting night and orientation for school and somehow waking up at 445am to go work out just didn't agree w/my sleep pattern. Perhaps I will get there this evening. I need to move, my scale is stuck.

Mam: How are you feeling this morning? Has your strength gotten better w/some rest?

Hello Violets!

AM:
My girl is off to her first day of school. We walked down to the busstop together and found a neighborhood friend so she was happier about having a seat mate this morning. the short walk was good for me and frankly my thighs didn't feel like they were eating my shorts as I walked this morning like they usually do.

I need to do some meal planning before I go shopping today. I always end up finding a recipe after the fact and then don't have the right ingredients and either then cobble something together or have DH shop - but in some instances thats bad as he always comes home w/something that is contraband! Like sweets! He means well.

Happy day to you all. Please send me some encouragement to stay away from the sweets today, I have been teetering all week and it's only Tuesday. The chocolate siren keeps calling to me, but I keep trying to turn a deaf ear to her. Oh the hurdles we have!

Lemonthyme- I did NOT get my steps in yesterday. I didn't even make it to the Lose It minimum of 7,750. But today I will get to 10,000. I'm already over 3,000 by 10am so I will make myself get some walking time in later this afternoon.

Definitely sending you some good vibes to turn down those sweets! You can do it!

Les: KEEP on walking! You'll get those 8000 steps in to complete today's goal, even if you have to park on the fringes of a parking lot, get them done!

Amber: have a beautiful time! Might this be an engagement trip or are you too young to think along those lines? Have a good time! Enjoy the food and company.

AM: I have so far shoved sweets aside today. DH and I met at HuHot to have lunch. I loaded up on veggies and meat and only a very small amount of rice. That was good on my end. DH, not so much he thought the noodles were ok carb wise, oh the man has a long way to go!

It's turned out to be a horribly hot and humid day, the type of day you have haze hanging in the air? yep one of those type of midwest days, always coinciding w/the start of school. Kind of like one summers last kisses before we start cooling off in earnest.

Alright - off to unpack my groceries and meal plan the rest of the week.
