Hi all - I'm very pleased to announce a 1.8 pound loss this week which brings my total back over 10 pounds (11 to be exact)! Wahoo for the new Flex Points - at least for week 1. We had a fun weekend - program-wise I did so-so. I did pretty well at my sil's on Saturday ending the day with a fraction of Flex Points left. I did OK yesterday (my sister, bil and friend came over for a bar-b-que) until dessert. My sister brought Dunkin Doughnuts and I had more than I planned. Oh well, another week began today for me and I'm planning on using just a couple of Flex Points tonight.
Tomorrow is the first day of work - but it's a staff day - the children come on Wednesday. I'm nervous but looking forward to my new career beginning. I think I'll be most nervous tomorrow night!
Judy - Congrats on a terrific loss! Dunkin Doughnuts - pure evil. Have a good first day of your new career! You'll do great.
We had a great weekend away. I swear the southern Michigan coast of Lake Michigan looks just like the ocean. I guess that's why they call it the Hamptons of the Midwest. That and the pricey homes and stores. At any rate, we enjoyed ourselves. And today we had the BBQ (indoors since it was raining) with our college friends. That was fun today. However, the weekend away and the party played havoc with the program. I'm in a negative points balance. Yeaterday (Sunday) particularly was tough. We had a late lunch at a Mexican restaurant and I thought that would be it for the day. However, we did some hiking. (Let me tell you, walking uphill on sand is not easy). And then I spent an hour in the pool with Ana. Nothing strenuous, but still and hour of pretty constant moving. So I was starving and we ended up having a late dinner. I didn't read the menu carefully and the salad that came with my dinner was loaded with cheese and stuff and by that time I was so hungry.... Oh well, it would have been worse without those activity points. On the plus side, I wrote down everything I ate and just got done entering it on-line and I said "no" to a lot of things, so even though point-wise it wasn't a success, I've done some things right. We'll see what the scale says on Wednesday.
And now to finish laundry and get to bed. Ana's first day of Kindergarten is tomorrow!
Carla - Well I guess doughnuts and vacations happen! Good for you for recording everything! How was Ana's first day. Anthony's first day of kindergarten is tomorrow.
Staff day today - I am a bit overwhelmed but in a good way. The teacher in whose class I'm assisting seems really wonderful. I'm pretty nervous about tomorrow (when the kids come) so I think I'm gong to have a glass of wine tonight. It's worth the 2 points! The child to whom I am assigned is a pretty tough case (so I've been told) so I'm going to try to take things as they come and remind myself that I'm new to this, I can't expect to know everything and that I'll just figure things out as I go.
On the WW front, the PTA put on a luncheon with wonderful tasty things. I took only those things that really interested me (they were yummy!) and took very small portions. There are other staff on WW and there is even a WW recipe folder in the faculty room! I did a short step workout tonight and plan on working out again after school tomorrow.
Carla - good for you for signing up on line! Glad to hear you enjoyed the weekend away. I thought the same thing about Lake Michigan when I passed through with Mike a couple of years ago. It's humungous. I feel very lucky to live close to the real ocean for a frequent fix of sea air. How was Ana's first day of kindergarten? Did you get emotional? I have to confess that when Jen started kindergarten way back when that it was one of the most liberating days of my life.
Judy - good for you for posting a terrific loss! Your new work environment sounds wonderful. Good luck with your first "real" day tomorrow. A glass of wine sounds like a very good idea.
Your little people are growing so quickly; seems like yesterday they were babies!
Well, didn't get back to weight watchers tonight. I elected to go grocery shopping instead, and it's the first real shop I've done in three weeks, so you can imagine how hard it was getting to put together a decent meal! I've been slowly getting back on track with water and portions, and this time next week I hope to have it together enough to get my butt back there.
The temporary manager position I've been filling since March was made permanent today, so I'll be keeping more than busy at work.
Judy - I've been thinking about you on your first day as a TA. I bet when you get home you'll be exhausted, but happy.
Karen - Congrats on being named manager permanently! I envy you living by the ocean - I'd love to be near the ocean. I managed not to cry yesterday, but I did take pictures. It probably helped that she's at the same place she's been for the past four years. But still it was a big day! I think going grocery shopping was a smart choice for last night. I think it's so much easier to feel in control when you're kitchen is well-stocked.
Well, despite the flex point deficit, I managed to pull off a small loss for the week - .04 pounds. It's not much, but it's in the right direction, thank goodness. This week should be much easier since we don't have anywhere we have to be or any planned meals out. I just have to be careful as PMS is kicking in and the salty and sweet cravings are relentless. What with Skinny Cows and pretzels in the house, last night was not pretty. But, I think I have it under control. On the exercise front - I walked to and from the eye dr.'s office yesterday, so I was able to earn some activity points.
Hi All I came in at 171 yet again!!!! I am getting so frusterated!!!! I keep track of my points so well!!!!!! I just got the ok last week to start excersise from my Dr. After Surgery, does the excersise really make a huge difference week to week?
Jennie - Hang in there. Exercise can, indeed, make a difference. I know it's hard not to see the scale move. But take satisfaction in the fact that you're doing good things for your body. You'll see the results on the scale soon.
Judy - Somehow I missed your last post. It's great that there are fellow teachers doing ww. Increases the possibilities for low-point treats in the staff room! Good job at the PTA luncheon. I hope things went well on your first day. You're right - you're new to this and you can only try your best.
I had a good day yesterday. I ended up one point below target. I've got a low-point dinner planned tonight, so today should be right on track too. Tomorrow I have to go with John to an eye specialist. He went to our opthamologist last week for a check-up and she noticed that his retinas had thinned considerably and she wanted a second opinion on how they're doing. Thinning can lead to detachment, so she wants to keep a close eye on them. It's worrisome, but I'm trying not to fret until at least when we hear what the specialist has to say.
Karen - Congratulations on being named to the manager position! You must have been doing a great job! I agree with Carla that going to the grocery store was a good thing to do - having a house stocked with point friendly, healthly things makes staying OP so much easier. Yes, our little people are growing up very fast. I feel lucky to live near the ocean too - one of these days, I should drive to the beach from work - I'm working on the south shore of the island and the shore is really close.
Carla - way to go on losing even with the Flex Point deficit. Thank goodness that TOM started today - I was getting pretty tired of the sweet & salty cravings. I managed to do OK with them by having lite popcorn and one of those yummy WW giant sundae cones - we found them (vanilla but they are still good) at Costco for a lot less a cone than in the supermarket. Way to go on walking to and from the doctor's! Good luck at the opthamologist's office. It's a good idea to try not to fret but I know it's hard to do!
Jennie - I know maintains can be frustrating but they are always better than a gain. I think exercising definitely helps. There are a couple of things you can look at too: Are you sure about your portions? Lots of us can get a little sloppy after a time about our portions and end up eating more than we think we are. Try measuring and weighing to see. Are you eating below your minimum or always around your minimum? You can be giving your body the message that there's a famine and then it will hold onto weight. Are you journalling everything you eat? Are you including the BLT's (bites, licks and tastes) - they can add up.
I did OK yesterday. I used a few Flex Points but I still have plenty for the week. We did a little babysitting for Anthony yesterday until the early evening. I went straight from school to Chuckie Cheese! Things have gone really well at work - I've memorized all the kids' names and I've really been able to help out in class in addition to taking care of the child to whom I'm assigned. So far that has worked out OK too. It's a pretty tiring day and the humidity here (today was awful) has been tough - I've been used to working in air conditioned offices - but I really like it. I feel as if I've really made the right decision. I exercised when I came home tonight (a little upper body work) and hope that I can pull out a good weigh in even with TOM.
Hard to believe it's almost the weekend again. Working only four days this week has made the week fly by.
Judy - sounds like the really good kind of being busy at your work. That's great that you've got all the kids memorized so quickly. Between staff, residents and family at work, I know over 500 people by name! Hope your humidity drops soon. It's been terribly hot and dry here all summer. Many areas of British Columbia are being devastated by forest fires this year. The area we vacationed at has a massive fire threatening it.
Carla - congratulations on your loss! Hope John comes away from the opthalmologist with good findings tomorrow. If you need to fret, try and channel it into something productive like dejunking a drawer or something. I know when I get fretful I find myself standing in front of an open fridge quite often.
Jennie - as the others have said, you'll find exercise makes a big difference. It increases your metabolism and helps you burn calories faster.
I'm looking forward to going back to WW (for sure next week), and learning about flex points. I've been diligently drinking my water. A kind staff member brought me a box or Iranian sweets the other day. It took me three days to polish it off, so I guess I could've done worse. If it had been a PMS week, they'd have been history two days ago. I met my best friend at the beach this evening with our dogs, we sat on a log and chatted while the dogs went nuts, and then went for a walk, so I got some activity in too.
Likely won't make it here tomorrow, so have a great weekend and see you all monday.
Judy - I have yet to make a visit to Chuckie Cheese, but I know my day is coming soon. I'm thinking I might take Ana after school one day so as to beat the crowds. Good job memorizing all those names. I can't imagined working in a non-air conditioned room. I'm glad you're liking the job so far. You're working hard, but just think of the difference you're making in one little boy's life, as well as his classmates, versus working hard for the bottom line of some corporation. Much better feeling at the end of the day, I imagine.
Karen - Having those sweets last three days is progress, for sure. Yep, fretting can find me in front of an open fridge too. That combined with PMS - yikes. But fortunately I was able to keep it in check.
John's appointment went well. The thining at the edges of his retina is due to his near-sightedness, which changes the shape of the eye. He needs to be looked at every year by our regular opthomologist, but so far, so good. When I let myself get carried away with possible outcomes, I would imagine him not being able to see Ana grow up and it made me so sad. But no imminent danger of that. I managed to snack my way to my target yesterday, but not eat beyond it. I had the flex points, of course, but I really want to keep those on reserve. I'm having lunch out with a friend on Tuesday and it's at a place with wonderful ice cream, so I'm told, so I want to have some points available for a treat. Tonight I'm making chicken marsala from a recipe I got at the WW site. I can't wait, as I do love me some chicken marsala.
