I ran across an interesting breakfast one day - I take a packet of chocolate Alba shake mix (it's kind of like Ovaltine) put it in the blender with 4 oz water and 4 oz milk add a rippened banana and blend. I then add @ 1 cup of ice cubes and blend until smooth. It is out of this world - one word of caution - use rippened bananas - the ones that in one more day they'd be trash type of rippened! The fresh ones add a different taste to it that I didn't care for.
Anyway - its 3 points and is 2 dairy products and one fruit!! and best yet it fills me up until Noonish (I ususally eat before 6:30am!)
Hi,
I pack breakfast and lunch and snacks the night before. Like a lot of the others, I like protein to keep full. I'll throw in 2 hardboiled eggs in the shell in case I get hungry. That way, I peel the egg and throw out the yolk. Believe it or not, it's a great way to have less than 1 point and still get satisfied. I love the eggbeater on Lite English Muffin for 2 points. My daughter adds the Morningstar Breakfast "sausage" for a very filling treat.
Sometimes I measure out Kashi or Fiber One and add the skim milk. That holds me because of the fiber, especially when I have a piece of fruit midmorning.
Good luck.
I like lots of protein in the morning, too. I've just discovered protein powder. You can buy it in drugstores, or health food stores. My favorite is Solgar vanilla whey protein powder.
I sprinkle it on oatmeal. If I don't have time to cook the oatmeal from scratch, I make instant oatmeal and add the protein powder (with raisins thrown in, usually.) More filling than just the oatmeal by itself.
My summer favorite is Kashi with 1/2 c. ff milk 1/4 banana and a few blueberries.maybe 1/4c. 2.5 pts and it lasts all morning. I guess because of the fiber. I also like a fruit flavored ff yougurt and a slice of high fiber raisin toast. 3 pts
My favorite quick breakfast is PB&J. I use Pepperidge Farms Crunchy Grains bread for 1 point each, 1 tbs of peanut butter for 2 points and 1-1/2 tbs Polaner all fruit so my breakfast is 5 points It has protein and is quick and satisfying. I bring it to work and eat it at my desk so I have a little less time between breakfast and lunch.
So, Bumby, I wrote the Buddig folks a prissy e-mail denouncing their higher-calorie, higher-fat formulation, and have received no response. They have no nutrition information on their Web site, which should tell us something.
Shake--
I'm not optimistic. Apparently our society as a whole has rejected the low fat concept and wants things to taste better. Honestly, did your new ("Now! Better Taste!") packages taste any different to you? I didn't notice the change. I haven't, by the way, checked the other meats in the Lean Slices line. We used to get the chicken--it was only 60 (!!) calories per package. I've never examined the ham.
BTW, I'm quite serious about figuring out how much of the package would be 1 point. I'm a great advocate of this method--I work out the points for something and if it's just over the line, I'll cut of a hunk and toss it down the disposal--voila! Down a point! Not that I recommend this for all things--if you squeeze every last calorie into each point you are allotted (I'm FAMOUS for this), you really aren't going to get anywhere. I got away with it when I was carrying around >80 extra pounds but it seems to be tougher when it's only ~5#!
I usually have 1 cup of Kashi with 1 cup of sun soy plain milk ( 1 cup is 1 pt!) with 1 cup of blueberries. I also like the sunsoy chocolate milk which is 2 pts! Believe me, I at first resisted the idea of "soy" milk, but, once I tried that chocolate milk I was hooked - honest- you can NOT taste the difference between the "soy" version and real version! The plain soy milk is really delicious and at 1 pt/cup it is a bargain!!!!!
Aspen muffins (www.aspenicecream.com) are really good, filling, and only 1 pt. per muffin. Now for the bad news, they are fairly small and pretty expensive. But for 1 pt, I figure it's worth it.
Howdy all,
My current favorite breakfast is certainly in the "odd" group. A cup of hot, cooked oatmeal -2pts(I put it into the microwave before stepping into the shower), a 1/2 cup of FF cottage cheese (1pt) and s sprinkle of Fiesta brand fajita seasoning. Stir and enjoy! Protein, complex carbs, and fiber! Ole!
Once a week or so I sautee up a bunch of sliced mushrooms and chopped green onions and keep it in the fridge. It comes in handy to doll up a quick, filling breakfast. For example, I get this bread by Silver Hills called Squirrelly bread (very high fiber) and it's a regular sized slice of bread for 1 point per slice. I toast 2 slices, top with some of the mushroom/green onion mixture and season with some Mrs. Dash or salsa. Top with low fat cheese and run under the broiler. This will keep me full until almost lunchtime depending when I eat it. The prepared mushroom onion mixture is also great in an omelet as well.
On reading all the above posts, I just can't get over how many more non-fat food items you are able to buy in the USA compared to my part of Canada. So, when are you going to conquer us so I can get all those goodies more easily?
