"I know it may seem stupid to take Kayleen out of the trailer and run to the house but I have always heard if there is a tornado and you are in a trailer to get out. And also my mom's house is a cinderblock house and seemed much safer. "

Doesn't sound stupid at all Brenda. You did exactly what you were supposed to do. Good Job Mom!!! In Florida, CBS (cinder-block) houses are the "norm" and "frame" (wood only) houses are much, much less expensive for the obvious reasons but only a fool would use only wood for a house here in Florida with all of the hurricanes and tornadoes we get. Our house is CBS AND Steel frame construction. THAT is the norm now....actually the codes have changed and many two story homes now have the CBS on the 2nd floor as well.
You did a very smart thing and thank God you are all ok. You all have alot to be grateful for on this Mothers Day. Your girls have a very smart Mommy. Take it easy and enjoy your day with your kids and YOUR Mommy. I'm driving up to Melbourne around noon today just to give my Mother some flowers and to see her for an hour or so. Then, I'm supposed to be back here for a dinner that Bill and the kids are making. Only about an hour up and an hour back. I like the drive since it's on I-95 and just a long stretch to "veg" out on. Have a wonderful day Brenda.

To all you other Moms out there......~HAPPY MOTHERS DAY~

Love ya all,
~Pamela~

Good morning. Boy that tornado sounded pretty frightening. When we drove to Florida last year, there were tornados that had touched down in a county close to where we were staying, and I think 14 people were killed. Pretty scary stuff.

Enjoying my 2 days off. It's Mothers' Day and I don't have much planned of course. Go and see my mother! Scott made me a nice card.

We've been enjoying lovely springweather and everthing is coming up green. What a great time of the year.

I have to go to work tonight and when I'm working a night shift, it tends to loom over my head for the entire day. I'm trying to change that feeling and just enjoy the day.

Have a good day everyone.

Hi Everyone,

Well it is the day after and what an awful mother's day my mom had to wake up to. Her computer, wireless phone, alarm clocks, stereo, coffee-pot, tv, etc..., everything is blown. I feel so bad for her and we are just hoping that her home-owners insurance will cover it, and ofcourse there are still wires down in the yard and who knows how much the chimney will cost to repair. I didn't lose anything so I am extremely lucky, my trailer is run off her electricity and I guess her house took all the power surge and it didn't make it to the trailer because it was secondary. We are all just so happy that nobody got hurt.

PJ, thanks, your post meant alot to me. I think you always have guilty feelings when something like that happens. I couldn't be with both my kids and I just yelled to get bree to safety and had to grab Kayleen and run. I didn't know Bree couldn't get in the house, at that point you couldn't see anything. I asked her how she finally got in the house and she said that when the chimney fell right beside her it scared her so bad that she just yanked the door open.LOL The poor little thing. I am so extremely happy that my kids are both okay.

SueBee, yes it is sooooooo scary. Gosh I never imagined anything like that.

See Ya ladies

Default Thank GOD you are all OK

Oh Bren.......what a scary thing!!!! and YES you absolutely did the right thing. Trailers are very dangerous in a tornado...they offer NO protection! I am so grateful that it stopped. While I am sure the damage is bad and your Mom is naturally upset ...it could have been so much worse.

We have had some bad Tornadoes here. The worst one was 7 years ago and people still haven't forgotten it. It cut a path through our Walmart at about 11 am and also went through the very old historic part of town. Stopped about a block from my house...Talk about God watching over us ( just like he was doing for Bree and all of you). I had to remove 5 roadblacks just to get home that afternoon.Several people were killed and one was one of our nurses husband and lots were injured in the Walmart. Tornadoes are bad and deadly..... I am so glad that you guys are OK

Don't be surprised if YOU and The girls don't get scared whenever the sky gets black...we are still fearful and especially my oldest who was 5 at the time. I do NOT like to be at the Sam's Club( buit on the old Walmart location) whenever it looks like a storm...silly I know but folks around have never forgotten that day!! I am sure you won't either!!!!

Have a great MOTHER's DAY and celebrate that you are TOGETHER and unharmed!!!!

Hugs!!
emmy

Hi Emmy and everyone else.

Thank You and Yes I was just saying earlier that I know I will be scared when things get dark like that. I am always one that has been scared of thunderstorms when they happen anyway. The real weird thing is that we didn't really get any thunder here, It was fine, I mean Brianna was playing in the sprinkler and boom it was dark and then the sh*t hit the fan. It was so quick and then when it ended the wind just totally stopped but boy was it pouring and I could see flashed of lightening in the distance but no thunder. My sister only lives about 10 miles away and they had severe thunderstorms but that's all. My friend up the street had her windows and door open and all of a sudden it got dark and then the screen door went flying off and everything was blowing around in their house, they looked out the window and couldn't even see the trees accross the street because of the swirling dirt and debris, I told her I know, we were outside right in it. I know we were only in the edge of it or we would have been taken right up by my god it was awful, when I was about 1/2 way to the house with Kayleen I remember thinking I wasn't gonna make it alive. We just never saw it coming. The cable guy and the telephone guy came and fixed the rest of the wires today so everything is back in place. I also know that this happened in atleast 3 other surrounding towns, so I don't know if it was multiple tornadoes or if it was the same one just skipping along. We have been so busy that we haven't seen the news since the electrics been back on. I will probably learn tomorrow at work about what actually happened.

See Ya
Brenda

Default I only have a minute....

Bren - What an awful day you guys had!!! I hadn't heard about any tornados hitting Worcester! But then again I was extremely busy this weekend and didn't watch much TV. (or read the paper for that matter). I am glad you guys are ok. And you did the right thing with Kayleen. {{{HUG}}} Its a good thing you guys didn't get hurt - remember that!! Oh mother nature can be so cruel! I hope that doesn't happen ever again to you guys. SCARY!!!

Hi Tara,

Actually as far as I can tell, it didn't make the paper or the news. I have looked and haven't seen anything. I guess it wasn't widespread enough. It had to be pretty small because it basically did the worse damage just to us, we were the only ones who actually lost electricity and probably just a 1/2 mile square got the worst of it. It just seemed to pick our house. But they got similar situations in Millbury, Brookfield and Worcester, they called those micro-bursts I guess but none of it seems to have made the paper or the news, very strange but It doesn't totally surprise me either, this is a small town and we tend to get ignored. Also nobody was hurt. There was alot of talk about it at work though, everyone seems to know about it from their own experiences or from the grapevine. Anyway we all got through it and now I just hope the insurance pays for everything for my mom.

See Ya
Bren

Brenda...I am so glad you and your family were not hurt. When you think what could happen, you were very lucky. You definately did the right thing. Microbursts/tornados, or whatever the storm can do a lot of damage in a small area. You were smart to get everyone out of the trailer. Sometimes I think trailers almost are magnets to tornados.

Hopefully insurance will take care of everything, it should. Most important are that you are all okay.

I'm definately feeling better now. I subbed a half day of 5th grade today, and I have a full day of special ed tomorrow. Ther is an autistic 8 year old boy in 1st grade that I will be working with. I really enjoy working with him since he is so sweet and can really try when he wants. Whenever you get a break through with him on anything, there is nothing that feels better.

Of course all of the end of year school parties are ready to be planned also. I can't believe there is only one more month of school left. Since I'm head room mom for both kids, I will have a busy last week of school with all of their activities. It will be kind of hard on all of us since it will be the last year the kids will be with these friends. Right now we are targeting our move for early July. We close on our house in Illinois toward the end of June, and it is tough on the family having us split up. Hopefully the house won't have to sit empty for very long.

Well, I didn't do too bad with my eating today. I stayed within points and even have a little left for fresh strawberries tonight with a little fat free cool whip. The strawberries looked so good at the store today, I just couldn't resist. Would you believe it even sounds better than chocolate? I would never have been able to say that a couple of years ago. It's amazing how your priorities and tastes change as you go along trying to find a healthier life style.

Well, I don't have time to post individually, but wanted to wish everyone a good week. Spring is a great time of year and a good time to enjoy those walks outdoors. I'm hoping to do some of that this week.

Hi there. Just a quickie. My server (Bellsouth.net) has been down now for (as of today) THREE days!!!! I'm going crazy...can't get mail, can't get on the internet and they say it's out as far down as Miami. I'm not a happy camper. I'm using my neighbors puter to let you all know what's going on. Please don't email me until I let you all know when I'm back online. I already get about 50 emails per day and I know I'm going "crash" when I try to retrieve it all.
Until then,
